Accountability at the FBI…kind of.

At a press conference today, FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III responded to the Justice Department Inspector General’s report that found “pervasive errors in the FBI’s use” of National Security Letters to obtain the personal information of U.S. citizens. “How could this happen?” Mueller asked rhetorically. “Who is to be held accountable? And the answer to that is, I am to be held accountable.” However, Mueller “dismissed the idea of offering to resign, saying there has been ‘no discussion of that.’

The next neo-con metamorphosis on acountability:

Yes, things went wrong. I am to blame. But I don’t see why I should resign.

    Accountability with no reprisal.

  2. Wayne says:

Resign hell. Breaking the law means you f*ckers need to be arrested, put on trial and inprisoned.

Of course not. It’s clear that while Mueller is willing to accept responsibility, he is unwilling to accept blame. As David Frye once joked while doing his impression of Richard Nixon during the height of the Watergate scandal:

“As Commander in chief, I’m responsible, but I’m not to blame. Let me explain the difference: People who are to blame go to jail. People who are responsible do not.”

Reality imitates comedy in the topsy-turvy world of the neocons once again.

    Dear Dr. Mueller
I would be happy to discuss your resignation.
    Sincerely,

  5. linda says:

someone needs to compile all those special ‘i am responsible’ statements issued over the past two weeks by these scumbags just to confirm they are still collecting taxpayer-financed paychecks

Looks like Mueller is getting ready to buy a nice new suit to look good for his upcoming Presidential Medal of Honor ceremony.

Maybe Bush will have Scooter Libby at the ceremony too.

  8. Mike says:

Why would he resign? He gets his marching orders from the white house just like anyone in the executive brach.

Ever notice how most of these jerkoffs are members of the lucky sperm club? Roman numerals behind one’s name is usually a sign of aristocracy, at least in their minds.
Most know it as Silver Spoon Syndrome.
    Never worked, never had to.
    Never thought, never had to.
Never studied, but attended Ivy League school.
    Never served, might get hurt.
Never mind, I’m thinking out loud.

I love how these Neo-Con(victs)love to “accept responsibility” — no one quits or gets fired. No one resigns. Heck, they get medals from Dumya for “accepting responsiblity”, fer-crise-sake..

    “Heck of a job Bob.”

He’s just doing what GWB wants him to do. Why should he resign?

Heck he’s got to be up for some type of award.

Of course the ULTIMATE responsibility for allowing this to get to this point resides with GWB. Resign? Works for me.

  13. nofltwlt says:

If he accepts responsibility then he should resign. If he does not then he cannot be taken seriously.

Oops, I just hit submit and the FBI ran my doorbell.

I waiting for P1 to claim that obtaining private information on US citizens, such as himself, is simply the left helping the terrorists.

Michael, and P1, what was it Ann said at CPAC? “Thanks for respecting my privacy”

    Mwah.

It’s interesting and somewhat entertaining watching the Bush administration implode. Unfortunately their misdeeds have come at a huge cost to the people.

I love the smell of Republicans imploding.

  17. RUCerious says:

He’s accountable, in an accounting sense. For each debit, he’ll take credit.

Willy, I’m sure the people who are paying this “huge cost” will be glad to know that you are able to enjoy the smell (at their expense).

Unfortunately, there are too many progressives who are like this — screw the people, what’s important is to nail republicans!

You now thats not true, Progressives want a raise in min wage, we want Walter Reed fixed and to help the troops. Cons on the other hand screw the troops (armor equipment, medical care) and have created a culture of corruption.

Breaking the law does not require resignation? It sure does — and it requires a criminal trial as well.
What is it about the law that these guys don’t understand?

I have met several agents when a mechanic sabotaged some jets, I found them to be quite nice. We even went out to Sea-Tac airport and looked at a plane and explained how the system (Horizontal Stabilizer) worked. Sure they investigated me as well as others, but they got the right guy and jailed his ass.

Hell, my file is bigger than yours =)

  25. Eskwaya says:

If Mueller proclaimed his responsibility for these crimes, why wasn’t he arrested on the spot by the sargeant-at-arms. Why hasn’t he been arrested since then?

  26. AckSyn JAckSyn says:

Hey check this out C I, Zell Miller wants to send babies to war.

Don’t be so sure of that. I would compare files but I’m shy.

Also can you link that Zell Miller quote. I would love to check that out.

I SAW that article on Zell Miller and his ignorance is astonishing.
He would ban all abortions because those embryos would have grown up to be cannon fodder for the Bush war. They would also be paying into Social Security (until they died in the war, of course. ) But that’s OK too because they wouldn’t live long enough to collect social security anyway.
God, that man has lost his frickin’ mind. It’s gone. Vanished.

  29. Marie says:

The Zell Miller article is on Raw Story.

YOU HEAR THAT, Robert Mueller, YOU COWARDLY TWERP OF THE
