The Clinton-Bush contrast has clearly shown that where we put our troops is far more important than where one places his cigars.

I'm from Brazil and was there during the Clinton visit. I can assure you Brazilians are always suspicious of any American president, but Bush surely is absolutely DESPISED there, mostly because of the Iraq invasion.

I especially love when they quote Genesis, a book of the old testament, written as allegory.
Jews didn't use the bible as law they have the Talmud or Torah one of these for laws.

Spudge_Boy

He can’t because he hasn’t read the book.

Genesis 38:7-10

And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.

10And the thing which he did displeased the LORD; therefore He slew him also.

Note that this passage is generally used to justify a prohibition on mastrubation, and would thus probably cover oral as well. It is the biblical grounds on which contraception is out.

Also, note to Darryl, Onan would have classed as having done this in Wedlock, so no, marriage does not negate the ban.

Comment by Bruce Gorton — March 9, 2007 @ 1:21 pm

Right, some read it thus. BUt a further look into the passage illustrates that it isn't the masterbation, but the disobedience.

Onan had a duty under Jewish law to provide for his brother's lineage an heir. To do that he was to take his brother's wife and impregnate her. The child would not be his under their law,but would be considered his deceased brother's.

Onan,by 'spilling his seed upon the ground' regused to do his duty (both spiritual and legal under their law) to his dead brother.

Many people do not think beyond the first reading of a passage, sadly. There is something inherent in strict fundamentalism that seems to shut down people's brains.

Priests to Purify Site After Bush Visit
Newsday 3.09.07

"Mayan priests (in Guatamala) will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after President Bush visits next week, an official with close ties to the group said Thursday. "

May they upload the ritual to YouTube so that all aspirants to purifying a Bush tainted world may have access to these time honored liturgical resources.

’m sorry but I need to disagree on this. The actions of the Bush presidency are exactly the reason why support for the US has dropped through the floor. His rhetoric and his military actions scare the rest of the world. Surely you can see that?

I agree, but George acts on the advice of many advisors such a Kristol and weekly standard and of course the 30 percenters.

86. Tobey Tall
All your points are valid. But do we have any idea how many acres of corn land are "set aside" and farmers given subsidies to not grow corn and keep prices up? The reason this country has always remained powerful in spite of incompetent leaders has been the the enormous amount of farm land creating the ability to feed ourselves.
