“Veterans face serious inequities in compensation for disabilities depending on where they live and whether they were on active duty or were members of the National Guard or the Reserve, an analysis by The New York Times has found. … Those factors determine whether some soldiers wait nearly twice as long to get benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs as others, and collect less money, according to agency figures.”
Who could possibly have predicted that soldiers would come back with injuries? Surely we can’t blame the administration for failure to plan for something as unpredictable as that!
March 9th, 2007 at 2:17 pmSad article. They seem to be thought of as disposable. $8,000 a year for disability. What the heck will that get you?
March 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pmOkay, that’s it…someone needs to start pumping Thorazine into the water supply in Washington, DC and fast because the volume of sheer insanity issuing from this administration simply defies all belief. It would almost be funny if it weren’t so utterly sad and unfair and tragic. This is just so wrong…
March 9th, 2007 at 2:27 pmAs a disabled Vietnam era veteran, I am well aware that this is absolutely true. You have to fight tooth and nail for what you are owed and entitled to, in this beaurocratic system. My personal experience within the VA Hosptal scene at least here in NM is that once you finally get in and are seen , the care is really top-notch. I’m certain that is not true of every hospital in every state. It varies from state to state, even facility to facility.
March 9th, 2007 at 3:59 pmIt all comes down to the three “R’s:” Race, Rank, and Republican.
I will guarantee a Black, Private, Democrat will wait a hell of a lot longer and get a hell of a lot less than a White Republican Officer.
However, there is one consulation: there are very few White, Republican Officers with guts enough to go to combat. Case in point: the Chimp-in-Charge, G. A. W. O. L. Bush.

March 10th, 2007 at 1:07 amWHEN A WITLESS MORONIC CREEP AND BOMBASTIC IMBECILE LIKE Jim Nicholson IS IN CHARGE OF THE VA, WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED AT THE DELAY FOR OUR POOR VETERANS, WHO HAVE SACRIFICED FOR AMERICA BUT RECEIVE NO SUCH RECOMPENSE OR GRATITUDE FROM OUR USELESS F*CK-UPS IN CHARGE?
