less taxes, less accountabilty, less oversight…& closer to Bush’s gay lover Prince Bandar.

  2. troll alert Says:

Gettin’ a little closer to the oil, huh.
    Can Chaney be far behind?

  3. AshenShard Says:

Or to create jurisdiction issues when their looting of the US treasury is fully exposed. ” Nope, sorry, we cannot provide the relevant documentation since they are packed away somewhere in Dubai!”

Anything to avoid oversight of their criminal activity.

  4. unbelievable Says:

Damn, what the hell have we been saying for all these years?

    Finally, the smoking gun…

  5. Jay Randal Says:

Halliburton moved to Dubai, because the billions in cash they stole from Iraq is there in bank accounts, so they want to keep a closer eye on it. Plus they know when Bush leaves office, then they would be charged with criminal war profiteering if they remained in Texas.

  6. Abby Says:

Has the Iraqi oil law been ratified already?

  7. Gerald Gibson Jr Says:

These people are traitors. The republicans need to clean up their own house.

  8. OxyCon Says:

Won’t Halliburton then be stiffing America out of millions, perhaps billions in tax dollars by moving to Dubai?
Is it good for America when a company that derives a large portion of their revenue from American taxpayers moves overseas in order to avoid paying American taxes?

  9. unbelievable Says:

This issue is much bigger than a grey box… TP, I vote to upgrade it to a full thread.

We’re seeing that whatever we make the most noise about gets onto the MSM networks. Those greedy bastards will shoot themselves in the foot for profits…

    How ironical:

“Lesar’s announcement appears to signal one of the highest-profile moves by a U.S. corporate leader to Dubai, an Arab boomtown where free-market capitalism has been paired with some of the world’s most liberal tax, investment and residency laws.”

  12. Raven Says:

It would seem that under these circumstances, Halliburton would no longer be an American corporation, and should therefore forfeit all present and future contracts with the US government.

  14. Angry One Says:

The move t Dubai also makes it easier for Dick Cheney’s old company to do business with Iran. For the details, see:
“Cheney, Romney in Deep with Iran Investments.”

  15. Jay Randal Says:

Once Halliburton is headquartered in Dubai, then they no longer can be investigated by the US Congress. They will be protected in that nation from international war crimes trials too. Plus VP Cheney could flee to Dubai as well, if he thinks he might be indicted, and he most likely has secret bank accounts there. Bush Junior and Bush Senior are planning to flee to their 100,000 acre ranch in Paraguay if Dubya gets charged. Paraguay never extradites Nazi-fascist felons to the US, nor to Hague.

  16. Innocent Bystander Says:

All contracts with Halliburton should be suspended immediately. They are now a national security risk. That’s the problem with privatizing key government functions. What happens when that company decides to stop being an American corporation?

They obviously have been part of the Republican criminal enterprize. They getting out of here while they still can. Making money by damaging our national security is a treasonous act…and the architects still reside in the WH.

  17. katy Says:

no doubt the boxes have already been packed and moved…
this is just the official announcement…
how many jobs lost to that move?

too late for subpoenas, indictments? are you sure?

and cheney probably thinks is no different that moving to sunny

  18. ace Says:

Alberto Gonzales and Lindsey Graham want YOU to go to their CONCENTRATION CAMPS:

Reveal the truth of CONCENTRATION CAMPS built inside the United States.

Google “Swift Luck Greens” and read all about the illegal partnership between the army and homeland security (in direct violation of the posse comitatus act) to operate FORCED LABOR PRISON CAMPS FOR ENTIRE FAMILIES - not the families of illegals as you have been told, but you and YOUR FAMILY.

These camps were built by Haliburton’s KBR with your tax dollars. Swift Luck Greens is built in Cheney’s home state of Wyoming, adjacent to the Seminoe Reservior near Hanna.

Lindsey Graham is the most dangerous “Conservative” in America. Anyone who watched the testimoy of AG Gonzales nearly a year ago and witnessed the wink & nod exchange between these two knows what the real deal is. They are preparing to implement Martial Law.

Graham stated that he was concerned about the need to track “Fifth Column Movements” here in the US, and Gonzales smiled and said: “Weve said that we’d be happy to listen to your ideas.”

What was that exchange about, really?

Lindsey Graham perceives the “enemy within” to be you and me - and he wants to “track our movements.” For what purpose Mr. Graham? Who in the hell are you to decide who is an enemy of the US Constitution? It’s not about that, is it Mr. Graham? After all, that document is just a “Goddamn Piece Of Paper” in the immortal words of your faux-leader.

No wonder you are in favor of warantless wiretaps and all of the extra-Constitutional provisions of the Orweillianly named Patriot Act.

Who is this “Fifth Column” that you are so afraid of, Mr. Graham, and what prey tell might they reveal if they are allowed to seek and reveal the ENTIRE TRUTH if left to their own devices?

You have attempted to Hijack America, and paint issues in black and white, to meet the ends you seek. but it is YOUR ACTIONS, and those of this administration, that are illegal. That fifth column that you so fear, we call them PATRIOTIC AMERICANS DEFENDING THE CONSTITUTION FROM THOSE WHO WOULD SEE IT DESTROYED. That means YOU, Mr. Graham. YOU are the enemy of this Republic and this Constitution - and when the truth is fully revealed, it will be YOU who the NEW AG will be investigating for your efforts to destroy FREE SPEECH in the United States Of America.

You and your co-consirators should be concerned - because the TRUTH is hot on your trail.

  19. doro Says:

Looks like Halliburton is cutting and running from the unavoidable enquiries into where your money went and who took it.

This war has created (or was even designed to create ) a pool of corruption in unseen dimensions. The Democratic majority is a real threat to these people. But they better start those hearings very soon or there will be noone left in the country that a committee could question.

  24. R Says:

Well, of course they would. That’s where George Bush, Sr., George Bush, Jr., Neil Bush and everybody who’s anybody does thier business. I think that the liberal media should blast this news all over the tubes and headlines. It seems to me that this constitutes conflict of interest, between a foreign government with selfish Middle East interest and an American company imbeded with government contract interest. Does Halliburton think that if push comes to shove, they won’t have to hand over documentation, when the Congressional investigations demand them?

  30. Jackie Rawlings Says:

Dubai shareholders like George H. Bush did good. They have Americans really made fools of Americans no wonder we’re jokes around the world. Dubai is still using New York Ports just under a different name. I know the Bin Liden family are pleased with the extra money. Yes Bush lied for 6 years to Americans and the World but he kept his promise to the Bin Liden family by protecting Osama from any harm. Osama turned 50 years old March 10th, let’s hope George W. Bush remembered to send him a birthday card. I feel bad for the soldiers and their families that believed this invasion was about WMDs or Iraq Freedom. The truth is our troops have died and are dying for oil in the Gulf controlled by the US as agreed once with Saddam. Yes Americans aren’t educated in the policies that we have made. We are in truth stealing Middle East Oil in the Gulf and Bush made agreements to cut out some of the players. Now it’s time to cut Iran by invading that country for their oil. Bush doesn’t think of Iraq or soldiers as human so killing means nothing it’s all about the Rich controlling the oil at any cost.

  34. mbbsdphil Says:

They would also shift it outside US legal and tax jurisdiction, hampering post-Bush administration investigations into their dealings.

No one on this post misses the point, but this is a Major Red Flag.

To everyone but Halliburton, it is painting a big “X” on themselves and shouting, “START INVESTIGATION HERE.”

  35. aquarius2 Says:

Why the hell isn’t this a huge story? I was amazed when I read this. Blogs run with all kinds of stories but this is MAJOR for all the reasons listed in the above comments and appears to be ignored on other blogs.

  36. doro Says:

    #32 Sharon,

what got to me is the “8.8 billion shrink-wrapped American Cash” and they didn’t even guard it or make sure it got where it was meant to go. (But,wait a minute, what if it did just that?) I don’t know about the 7 billion to Israel, heard about it yes, but I’ve not seen anything that corroborated that.

Just a moment ago I fled the sitting room and the tv set, because now we have a discussion in Germany, that the fight against global warming was ruining the German economy, but yes it is an important thing, so the Government will find themselves some scientists and discuss what can be done about it. (I would have started to puke had I watched it any further)

Please give your trees an extra hug from me. Blessings to you.

  37. Anastasia Says:

Actually the link says that the CEO will be spending more time in Dubai, not that they are moving the entire company.

Still, the more time CEO Dave Lesar spends abroad, the less time he’ll be available for testifiying at Congressional hearings. He may even be able to dodge legal action all together, especially if he remains there.

    …….

Halliburton Expands Mideast Presence; CEO to Spend More Time in Dubai

By Russell Gold and Susan Warren

Halliburton Co. is making a big push to expand its presence in the Middle East, with Chief Executive Officer Dave Lesar spending a substantial part of his time running the company from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Lesar said that from his Dubai office he will be concentrating on building the Houston-based oil-services company’s business with national oil companies in the Eastern Hemisphere, including Asia, Africa and the Middle East. “Growing our business here will bring more balance to Halliburton’s overall portfolio,” Mr. Lesar said in a statement. …

I agree with comment #13. No more contracts with these thieves. The current contracts need to be rescinded ASAP.

  40. Marty Didier Says:

I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined Organized Crime but this wasn’t any ordinary Crime System. They often bragged about it being “The World’s Largest Crime System”. Halliburton has an interesting history throughout the news regarding suspicious and questionable behavior. However, what isn’t well known is the involvement that Dubai plays in laundering of money in many areas throughout the world.

I know from being in the family that Dubai is involved in many world wide laundering schemes. One as an example is “Mandarin Oriental Group” which is known within the family as a place where stolen US tax dollars end up. Of course, the money has new owners! You might find the Tribune’s article, if it’s around “Just who is building Mandarin?” an interesting read since it links the MOB to Dubai. While reading this, please accept that my life’s experience in this family crosses many times with the MOB in other areas. too. One as an example is Abramoff/Gus Boulis’s Casino Boats in Florida which the family was approached in 1996 to become an owner. There are many other occurrences that include other National News articles with another one being Major shipments of Drugs coming into the Midwest then redistributed to the East Coast and Florida areas. Please accept that there are also links to the criminal elements within the US Federal Government too. And it doesn’t stop there either……

Maybe an American patriot will fly a plane into the building?

My brother visited Halliburton’s Houston HQ for a business meeting. It’s a large campus close to Bush Intercontinental airport. While in the meeting, a plane could be heard overhead. Everyone in the room commented that something was wrong because planes are not allowed to fly over the Halliburton campus. Apparently CHeney has gotten the FAA to protect Halliburton from flyovers.

  44. Delhi, India Says:

Iraq: the hidden cost of the war

America won’t simply be paying with its dead. The Pentagon is trying to silence economists who predict that several decades of care for the wounded will amount to an unbelievable $2.5 trillion.

    Casualty conspiracy
the number of wounded listed on the VA website dropped from 50,508 to 21,649. The Bush administration had, once again, turned reality on its head to concur with its claims.

So far, more than 200,000 veterans from the current Iraq or Afghanistan wars have been treated at VA centres. Twenty per cent of those brought home are suffering from serious brain or spinal injuries,

There is now a backlog of 400,000 claims from veterans and waiting lists of months, some of which “render . . . care virtually inaccessible”, in the words of Frances Murphy, the VA’s own deputy under-secretary for health. Claims are expected to hit 874,000 this year, 930,000 in 2008. Casualties returning from Iraq meanwhile outnumber other patients at Walter Reed 17 to one, and many have to be put up at nearby hotels and motels rather than in the hospital beds they desperately need. Suicide attempts are frequent; often the less wounded end up having to care for the more seriously wounded.

GEORGE BUSH HATES THE TROOPS BRING THEM HOME NOW…

    Comment by Raven — March 11, 2007 @ 11:47 am
Great point but since they’ve raided all the coffers and are on the verge of having to really supply the services they charge for thanks to the Dems I suspect they want to “cut and run.”
Now that this move is announced it would be nice if any future payments to them could be frozen until investigations are complete. And since I’m sure they’ve been getting tax breaks from Texas and the IRS how nice of them to just leave with those billions of dollars taking jobs with them.
Apparently these people believe they can do anything and are untouchable. Moving to Dubai probably just enhances that opinion.
    Incredible

  52. beefeater Says:

The state of Minnesota taxed the business community to death also. Those companies that could fled to Wisconson or South Dakota. I think Halliburton will do just fine without US contracts and the lost jobs in Huston will be replaced by burger flippers. If I was a major American corp and could leave and not have to put up with the B(arbra) S(treisand) I think I’d go offshore too.

  53. Evil Spaniard Says:

So Haliburton, an USA corporation, moves its headquarters to Dubai.

Please, Repugs, remind me why was so good to give tax cuts and no bid contracts to corporations like this. Because they’ll create jobs in the USA? Sorry, but most of the workers are of the Middle East or other countries with a low minimum wage. Because they pay taxes and the USA and this will benefit all the USA people that in some manner receive federal funding? This is, from now on, false.

And, curiously, is what many liberals were saying about Haliburton a long time ago…

  54. MHampton Says:

You people are idiots. They are remaining in Houston, and opening a seperate HQ in Dubai where the CEO will operate. Plus, they still have divisions ALL OVER the US. They provide drilling support and expertise to companies all over the world. Of course it makes sense for them to have an HQ office in Dubai. Most of their competitors do.

And get your facts straight. The no-bid contracts were given to KBR, a division of Halliburton. They are in the middle of selling that off. It will be complete in April.

I’m no apologist, I just hate when people spew political rhetoric without having the facts.

  55. Barth Pazz Says:

This is the biggest insult to the United States of America.

How much more are we asked to swallow?

Here are some questions I have to ask:

    1. Why no bid contracts?
    2. Why no trickle down to small business?
    3. Why no large war economy beyond Dick Cheney’s last employer?
    4. Why is Halliburton leaving town after tax payer’s money is stolen in bad contracts.
    5. Why is Halliburton being accepted as a patriot of the US?
    6. Why is there a Patriot Act?
    7. Who did the due diligence before large contracts were issued to Halliburton?
    8. Who did the due diligence before selecting Dick Cheney as VP?
    9. Why am I having to spend my time even asking the questions above.
    10. How many US citizens can you fool before the Justice System takes action?
    11. Why have a Justice system at all?
    12. Why have a tax system to pay for a government that acts this way?
    13. What the Hell!!!! are we doing?
    14. Are we all brain dead?
    15. How many more questions do I have to ask?

I am done with the questions and would like to invite anyone to justify even half of the above questions to me. If you can’t I will assume this country has seen its better days.

    Let me know,
    Barth

  56. Shawn Says:

    Barth,

I would answer your questions if they were written in legible English or were probative at all. Unfortunately they make no sense. Please read post 55 by MHampton. He is the only person on this page with any sense. Halliburton is NOT MOVING its headquarters, it is opening new headquarters. Read the Halliburton press release. It WILL NOT and cannot escape US taxes. It will be taxed on all US source income regardless of where its headquarters are, and cannot escape this by opening up new headquarters. Read some tax laws before you make conclusions on what Halliburton’s tax consequences will be.

Many people have implied that Halliburton will no longer be subject to US jurisdiction if it opens headquarters in Dubai. This is pure nonsense. Any company that does business in the US is subject to US jurisdiction. If it were that easy to escape US jurisdiction, believe me, all US companies would open headquarters in Dubai.

What pisses me off even more than an unjustified war is people who rant and rave about things of which they have no knowledge at all (and who can’t even use proper grammar).

  57. rave Says:

what is so intersting is that everyone is focusing on tax laws, defense of political beliefs, and whether or not a company should continue its current programs. Its sad when one thinks that the very same people who live in this free thinking society, restricts themselveles to believe and think just as those in power want you to think. We all have been lied to - Republicans and Democrats! Was Saddam bad - yes! Was he contained prior to the war, yes. Were the hi-jackers from Saudi Arabia - yes. Did we question it - no. Does history show that the Bush family and friends deal heavily w/ the Saudis - yes! Does it also show that by Saddam invading Kuwait to increase his share in oil reserves to close to 20% (equalling that of the Saudis) was a direct robbery of Western oil giants interferred w/profits - yes. Finally, have we lost the very basic beliefs that the founding fathers felt were important when they disagreed w/ a sovreign power - I contend yes! Every politician is afraid to loose his/her seat for the fear of investigating the actions of the White House. You don’t have to be Democratic or Republican to notice that ther are inconsistencies. Granted, everyone wants their team to win, but at what cost? All of us are paying for the decision of those in charge -whether they be in the White House or Congress. My personal belief is that the people need to stand up and start asking questions, because the media will go but so far, Politicians will disclose but so much, businesses are about the bottom line, but it is you who is left with S#*! that they leave behind - God help us!!

[…] “some of the world’s most liberal tax, investment and residency laws,” to no extradition agreement with Dubai, to the ability to trade legally with countries like Iran. U.S. law forbids […]

  59. Raymond Funamoto Says:

The main reason Halitosis-Burton is moving its headquarters to Dubai is to escape the probing and invesigative eye and reach of Congress which could make things very uncomfortable for the lying, cheating, underhanded, VILR MACHINATIONS and CHICANERY MONKEY-business deaings of Halitosis-Burton and its UMBILICAL CORD CONNECTION TO ITS FORMER HEAD Torticola DICK-less
B(ugger) Cheney. In order to escape UPCOMING and INEVITABLE PROSECUTION, Halitosis-Burton is doing this, but also to PROVIDE A SAFE HAVEN for Cheney, WHO WILL BE INDICTED SHORTLY SO THAT SEWER-RAT WILL HAVE TO FLEE THE UNITED STATES TO AVOID PROSECUTION–WE MUST PREVENT Cheney FROM DOING THIS AND PUNISH THE MOTHER-F*CKER TO THE FULLEST EXTENT!!!!!
