The Blotter updates us on the whereabouts of the Iraqi defector who served as the source for Iraq’s supposed mobile bioweapons program. Even though he was considered an “unstable, immature and unreliable” source by some senior officials at the CIA, former Sec. of State Colin Powell said he was never told the CIA had doubts about the reliability of the source. “I spent four days at CIA headquarters, and they told me they had this nailed,” Powell said.
I don’t see a link here…
March 13th, 2007 at 3:46 pmLooks like Powell smells a supoena coming.
March 13th, 2007 at 3:50 pmCYA for the CIA?
March 13th, 2007 at 3:52 pmI spent four days at CIA headquarters, and they told me they had this nailed
Ah, yes, it’s the CIA’s fault. It’s a sad case of faulty intelligence. Shifting blame, I see.
There was never any intention to fix the facts around the policy, to mislead the public, or to deride critics. Right.
Only the 30%ers will believe this. And they will show up in 3, 2, 1
March 13th, 2007 at 3:54 pmSo the question is whether Colin Powell is lying or not. We either have the CIA who withheld this valuable information and is to blame or we have Colin Powell not accepting the CIA’s judgement and is to blame. Either way, it is damn sad that the CIA/Colin Powell failed us, Bush, and our Congress with faulty intel.
March 13th, 2007 at 3:57 pmIf memory serves Curveball was exposed some time ago as Chalabi’s cousin. If there is any one person that can that should be placed in the Hague along with all the rest of the war-mongers is Chalabi.
March 13th, 2007 at 3:58 pmCurveball has a slamdunk?
March 13th, 2007 at 3:58 pmpaying off Powell & son with FCC positions and minority media ownership did the trick of taking what appeared to be an honest man down
March 13th, 2007 at 4:04 pmYup, Gregor,
You nailed it. Impeccable timing.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:23 pm[...] now it seems that he’s been found. Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz with ABC, have found that he is still in Germany: Intelligence [...]
March 13th, 2007 at 4:25 pmI actually feel sorry for Powell. I really think he believed it, and is remorseful over the whole thing. He’s said that he regrets it at least a couple of times, if I remember correctly.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:28 pmWell then, it’s on Powell to have asked the right questions of the right people. After all, he WAS the Secretary of State and it was HIS responsibility to be on top on the matter. You sold out your career, Powell, for a position in an administration under a fascist regime. As far as I’m concerned, you are part of it, too.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:31 pmFor an archive of Iraq intel and WMD documents and news, see:
March 13th, 2007 at 4:33 pm“The Iraq Intel and WMD Documents.”
It’s not clear to me that Powell is saying this today or was this his quote from 3 or 4 years ago.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:52 pmIn either case, I don’t have respect for him because of his kowtowing to Bush&Co notwithstanding his son having been rewarded with being named head the FCC for several years.
We can feel sorry for his having been made a stooge, but he held positions as SecDef, Joint Chief, among other important responsibilities — it was up to him to know enough NOT to be made the fool. He has to claim ignorance or stupidity – neither one is a desirable trait.
Either way, it is damn sad that the CIA/Colin Powell failed us, Bush, and our Congress with faulty intel.

Peddle faster! The truth is right on your ass!
Bizzarro World might be fun to visit, Rog, but you can’t live there.
March 13th, 2007 at 4:55 pmPowell was Sec State – not Defense. Sorry.
March 13th, 2007 at 5:00 pmI thought I read that Curveball was connected to Chalabi — surely he knows the whereabouts.

CIA/Powell didn’t fail bush. They/he gave bush what he wanted from the get-go: cover to invade a country that had/has nothing to do with the “war on terrer”. Bush wasn’t misled, he is still misleading us, and congress. Bush is not a victim he is the victimizer. But, I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and, two out of three aint bad Roger_Roger. One more and we get to call you roger_roger_roger!
March 13th, 2007 at 5:02 pm…From ‘Mobile bioweapons” to ‘Mobile democracy”….
March 13th, 2007 at 5:08 pm#17 This report proved one of these 2 parties is to blame. It doesn’t seem to show failure or fault of any other party. Did I miss something in this write-up or was I supposed to simply assume?

While that’s true – they failed us on the orders of the President and his staff that wanted intelligence fabricated to justify the war. It’s why Bush is unfit to serve, just like he was when they pulled his flight status for his drug addiction.
March 13th, 2007 at 5:18 pmIraq Oil Law Runs into Opposition
The next ten days or so could be critical…,,,
March 13th, 2007 at 5:19 pmShocked I tell you,,Damn Shocked.
March 13th, 2007 at 5:23 pmCurveball sounds like a James Bond movie title.
March 13th, 2007 at 5:51 pm#21 & #22
I reread the article on your request. I still saw no reference to anyone outside the CIA and Powell (their aids were in the story). #22 could you please quote from the story were it says they failed us on the orders of Bush? I couldn’t find that part. Sorry, maybe my eyes are failing me. Was I supposed to use my imagination?
March 13th, 2007 at 5:52 pmOr Creative thinking? :)

You’ve pinned your entire understanding of the situation on what this article presents? That explains why you’re such a st*pid c*nt – you old coward.
Since you don’t know anything, won’t learn anything, and can’t reason, your imagination is all you have left – right?
Dum bass.

You aren’t creative, and you don’t think. That’s why you continue to post, and repost the same st*pid remarks. No matter how many times they’ve been debunked, destroyed and diverted. Why? Because you’re just a st*pid old propagandist that’s too invested in a failed philosophy, and a corrupt ideology. You’re a dinosaur, a useless bag of sh*t, and nothing more.
March 13th, 2007 at 6:02 pmRoger, two words for you that will lead you down the rabbit hole. Well not you – you’re too st*pid to follow it. But anyone with a brain can discover exactly where, how, and why the *Executive* branch intentionally lied and fabricated intelligence.
Douglas Feith.

March 13th, 2007 at 8:14 pmI wish people would stop talking about an intelligence “FAILURE”. If against great odds, something enables you to do precisely what you want to do (get the Congress and American people to go along with the invasion of Iraq)——-then it is not a failure, but a SUCCESS.
In early 2001, when the media told us how wonderful it was that Powell was going to be Sec of State, I wrote to everyone saying “this is the guy who helped coverup the My Lai Massacre and who lied to Congress during Iran-Contra”.
March 13th, 2007 at 10:31 pmHey Keith, I don’t trust Powell. Not one little bit. I can’t understand how he could have responsibility for the first Gulf war, and not be skeptical about the weapons of mass destruction BS. He either lied to the UN and to us or he recklessly passed on information which he couldn’t vouch for and knew or should have known was dubious.
March 13th, 2007 at 11:52 pmPowell SWINGS AT “Curveball”–AND MISSES!
March 14th, 2007 at 12:17 amSTRIKE TWO!
TIME OUT–Powell wants TO MAKE A DEAL!!!!!
THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY IN THE OLD TOWN TONITE!!!!!

March 14th, 2007 at 1:39 amIf you remember when Powell was giving his speech to the UN, then CIA Diector George Tenent & DNI to be John Negroponte were sitting right behind him. I think Powell had an idea that the intel was not airtight. I dont know that Powell, I believe that those that were providing him information were. He failed himself as a policy maker, and ultimatly the American people, by blindly trusting those who were providing information when he knew something didn’t sound right.
