BREAKING: First Republican calls for Gonzales to resign.
Sen. John Sununu (R-NH) has become the first Republican member of Congress to call for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign.
UPDATE: AP:
“I think the president should replace him,” Sununu said in an interview with The Associated Press. …
“We need to have a strong, credible attorney general that has the confidence of Congress and the American people,” said Sununu, who faces a tough re-election campaign next year. “Alberto Gonzales can’t fill that role.”
“I think the attorney general should be fired,” Sununu said.

U.S. Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who recommended Bogden for his position, was displeased when he got the news late last year, according to an e-mail from White House deputy counsel William Kelley to Kyle Sampson, an aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Sampson resigned Tuesday.

In Robert Sullivan’s terrific book on rats (Rats: Observations on the History and Habitat of the City’s Most Unwanted Inhabitants), he explains that there is only one way to eradicate the rodents and that is to remove their food supply. Anything else (e.g. poison) simply increases the rat supply as they respond to the environmental pressure. Rats, in this regard, are no different than trolls. If you feed them, they will come.
DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. Otherwise, you get lots of trolls.

Jake, I don’t care. And neither do a lot of truly independent minded Americans (as opposed to those simply too nervous to call themselves republicans). The goal here is not to acquire enough votes to overturn a veto. (??) It is to keep the story in play so that authentic contrasts will emerge for the electorate. This is the best way to introduce real accountability on this issue.

March 14th, 2007 at 8:03 pmIn the 60’s and 70’s, the definition of Absent Without Leave was being out of contact with command for 30 or more days. There is no evidence that George W. Bush ever even showed up at his National Guard station in Alabama for anywhere between 3 and 9 months. There is no record of why a highly trained pilot would refuse to take medical exam and, in doing so, voluntarily give up his flight status. There is no explanation on why an officer who was techniaclly AWOL and not able to fulfill his flight duties would have even been given an Honorable Discharge.
Michael, can you prove that George W. Bush is NOT the first president to have gone AWOL from the military during a time of war?
