ColorOfChange’s James Rucker: “A few hours ago I spoke with a reporter who talked with [Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-MI)] herself — a CBC member who is on the CBC Institute board. According to him, she said that a debate is still in the works with Fox; it just hasn’t been announced. I hope the CBC thinks about this well. FOX should be boycotted, as an example to other propaganda tools.

I don’t know what the thinking is behind allowing Fox to be involved in a CBC debate, but I can discern no logical reason for the CBC to have any involvement at all with Fox. Is this the result of some peevish tantrum? Is the CBC trying to “show everybody” something? I can’t figure it out but I can sure tell whoever is reading this that my respect goes out the window for any supposedly forward thinking person who teams up with Fox. They are the friend of the authoritarian right wing in this country and any involvement by the CBC with Fox will end up being to the detriment of the CBC. The CBC will not be creating useful relationships. The CBC will be isolating itself.

March 14th, 2007 at 10:19 pmThere is only one way to deal with FOX and that is to boycott them. (It is too hard to effectively boycott their sponsors because there are so many and corporate conglomerates make it impossible to boycott a company, except in rare cases.)

March 14th, 2007 at 11:41 pmBut what if the CBC plans to challenge FOX, on FOX? If well prepared, they could expose FOX on their home-turf in a powerful way. I twould be very tough and there’d be a lot of BS spin from much of CNN and MSNBC reporters and pundits (not all though).
IF the CBC prepares well, it could be an illuminating and highly publicized challenge. It would be gutsy. That’s the only reason I can think of to go ahead with this.
But if the CBC is expecting or hoping for some kind of fair shake from FOX, then they would be crazy and stupid.
Either they “take it” to FOX, and hard, or they leave it alone. It’s up to them–I;m not going to tell them what to do..

White progressives have the luxury of boycotting Fox. Blacks, not so much. If white progressives want to the CBC to boycoot Fox, instead of racistly bashing the CBC, how about considering working with them to meet their needs for once?
