Subpoena vote set for tomorrow.

By Nico Pitney on Mar 14th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Subpoena vote set for tomorrow.

“The Senate Judiciary Committee is set to vote Thursday on whether to authorize subpoenas to 14 current and former administration officials,” including Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, former Gonzales aide Kyle Sampson. “Since Rove, Miers and Kelley were just added to the schedule for Thursday’s committee meeting, panel rules allow any member to postpone consideration of the subpoenas for one week.” Will any senator give cover to Rove and Miers?

    GOOOD!!!!

Once it goes to court, many other things can be forced out that would normally not be allowed. When in a COURT, the information MUST be provided in a open forum. The PUBLIC will get to see the criminal activity right out in the open from the court documents. Once they are in a court document, then it is a LEGAL document and I can then sue the hell out of Bush and Cheney!!!!

Go for it is what I say….. Send it to the Supreme Court, that is entirely in my favor!!!!!!

Clinton trial is precidence to that fact!!!!

  7. Jake says:

Oversight is one thing — violating Executive Privilege and Separation of Powers for a decision that is completely within the purview of the President / Attorney General is another — they are not going to be the ones taking it to court BTW.

    Party time !
If the democrats bury these animals in hearings and sopena’s I will reconsider all the bad things I said about them .Although with Pelosi saying there will be no impeachment and the senate leadership giving the administration a green light on attacking Iran ,maybe not .

  9. Jake says:

You guys do realize what a precedent you are setting to issue a subpoena against the former White House COUNSEL, right? As bad as impeachment against Clinton got, Lanny Davis never testified. Besides, who exactly is going to enforce a Congressional subpoena against Harriet Miers?

I’ll wait fervently with baited breath to hear the results tomorrow. C’mon, Senate, show some backbone.

Nixon fought the same thing, impeachment papers were already drawn up, Nixon resigned before the vote.

    Nixon lost in court.

  21. freeman says:

    Jake,
if the clinton exercise was a good reason for impeachment how about the 650 000 unnecessary deaths in a war of choice based on lies by oil executives who signed off pre 911 on the global hegemony concept advanced by the neo cons .
How about the FBI under the AG spying illegally on 100’s of 1000’s of Americans while “trolling “for information or the firing of prosecutors investigating, for instance jack abranoff and not partisan enough for the bushites.
Perhaps the loss of Habeas corpus for any American who is deemed dangerous enough by the reigning executive ,from this point forward.
Perhaps the use of signing statements by this president, whom the American Bar Association has called a grave danger to democracy in the US.
Perhaps the outing of a NOC as payback for not playing ball and contradicting ,what we know was the official lie , when bush senior said earlier was the worst form of treason and traitorous.
All this from an administration who was first elected by the supreme court in florida while losing the popular election and elected to a second term by .6 % of the popular vote on electronic voting machines supplied largely by diebold a major Bush supporter and whom according to polls is believed by 1/3 of the American people to have been directly involved in 911 !( remember the Maine ?)
Too bad he didn’t kiss an intern, now that would be criminal .
What part of fascist don’t you understand ?

…John Stewart just showed a picture of Kyle Sampson…

…and I just finished posting to veritas (on another thread)…

    …about that same show…

    …Karma…

    …WOW!

  23. AboveTheClouds says:

The resignation of Sampson should tell everyone exactly what’s at stake here. This mess is in the White House and it was dragged there like dogshit on a shoe via Karl Rove. Why the Bush White House keeps him around is hard to explain. An unprincipled and immoral Karl Rove has destroyed the GOP while his “conservative” supporters cheer him on.

Bush doesn’t know shit–he was put in the White House to shake hands with neocon supporters who send checks to GOP campaigns.

  28. Marie says:

Subpoena power is available to the Senate due to the check and balance system provided in the Constitution. There has been no system in place to check the president for six years and he has run amok.
In the past one party has held the congress and the white house, and political advantages were taken, but never have there been the number of crimes, the unethical behavior and careless disregard for the Constitution as has been done by Bush&Co.

  29. pgw says:

so now the trolls are concerned about separation of powers and the sanctity of the constitution. that’s cute.

    #8 Joke

violating Executive Privilege and Separation of Powers

Well, golly, I guess there’s no way that Bush could ever be impeached. It would ‘violate executive privilege’ and ’separation of powers’. Not to mention that it would be an affront to his imperial majesty.

You know, you’re not really a constitutional scholar. I’m not trying to be mean. I just want to spare you from a huge letdown when your delusions of Bush’s grandeur crumble before your eyes.

“Violation of Executive Privilege” — why don’t you ask Patrick1 to look up a statute for that.

You do realize that Davis had nothing to do a private affair – right? You do know the issue here is a possible crime committed by *Miers* – right?

Are you going to argue that the Justice Department is st*pid enough to have that standoff with Congress? Nope. Only YOU are that st*pid – you old senile fool.

DC Democrats should forget about Miers and concentrate on Karl Rove. Grilling an old lady Miers could backfire on Democrats, but grilling Rove like a sausage could reveal important stuff, plus most Americans hate Rove bigtime. He is fair game to be completely destroyed politically.

  39. Tobey Tall says:

Israel, U.S. storm out of UN nuclear forum

The Israel and U.S. delegations walked out of the United Nations’ disarmament forum in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday after Iran said Israel was the “real source of nuclear danger in the Middle East” and had a “dark record of crimes.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told the Conference on Disarmament that Israel’s nuclear weapons posed a “uniquely grave threat to regional and international peace and security” requiring action by the international community.

In a statement, Israel’s ambassador Itzhak Levanon to the UN in Geneva, said that he and his aides, and the entire U.S. delegation had “abruptly left the room as the Foreign Minister of Iran … was in the middle of a vitriolic speech”.

A U.S. spokeswoman in Geneva confirmed the walk-out and called Mottaki’s remarks “outrageous and divisive” at a time the forum was trying to find common ground on global arms issues. ,,,,TYPICAL

  40. goose1 says:

Jake, If they didn’t do anything illegal why shouldn’t they testify?

  41. Bluedahlia says:

    #40 Tobey Tall
We are going to get nowhere with them diplomatically because we don’t know how to listen to other people’s concerns. A key element in negotiations. Talks will fail because we (US) want them to fail. They just have to try and make it look like it is all their (Iran’s) fault. Good god, diplomacy is a vital and honored skill that the US has scorned, to our detriment.

  42. Cynicon Implant says:

    Prediction time!

Nothing significant is going to happen even if subpoenas are issued.

Think about it — how can you criminalize something that is completely within the President’s power to execute?

It’s like the ridiculous attempt by the Dems to try and micromanage how the war goes from here. They simply don’t have the authority to do that (other than to deny funding) — that is the CIC’s job.

So you guys can pretend that so-and-so is going down or whatever, but in reality (sorry to introduce that word to a fantasy site) nothing is going to happen here, as long as the government works as designed. And if it doesn’t work as designed, then we have corrupted the system and then all bets are off. Believe me, you don’t want that to happen because it will end up in a shitstorm of hearings and subppoenas (remember who still has the U.S. Attorneys, children).

  43. Arn Gunnutes says:

    Prediction Time (revised).

When attorneys are fired or recalled in order to affect prosecutions currently underway, THAT is POBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE.

    Rove is a TRAITOR.

    Abu Gonzo is a TRAITOR.

Bush the coxucker PUNK is a TRAITOR to the USA.

    Try. Convict. Execute.

By a US Army FIRING SQUAD made of soldiers permanently
WOUNDED and MAIMED due to TRAITOR Bush’s LIES about WMD.

God Bless America and the WORLD!

    BURN IN HELL, TRAITOR BUSH!

  44. Jake says:

    goose1:

If they didn’t do anything illegal why shouldn’t they testify?

See, Separation of Powers including, but not limited to, Exective Privilege. The Supreme Court has upheld the President’s right to confidential advise, unless you are covering up a thrid-rate burglary

  45. Jake says:

    Arn Gunnutes:

What is “POBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE”? And, were Presidents Clinton or Carter guilty of it when they fired U.S. Attorneys in order to affect prosecutions currently underway?

  46. Jake says:

BTW: I do need to correct one post of mine above — at least two White House Counsel (John Dean and Charles Ruff) have testified in front of Congress before — not sure if they were under subpoena or not. Regardless, I don’t think this subject is proper for Congressional oversight — at least I was right about someone giving Rove and Miers a week extension on their subpoenas. I would hate to be them, but I sure hope they don’t give in to the pressure.

  47. Jake says:

Where did everyone go? Did anyone see that I admitted “mistakes were made” in my previous post? (Inside Joke : )
