Bush ‘Pugnacious,’ ‘In Deep Denial,’ As White House Allies Press For Gonzales Resignation

President Bush is the main force holding up the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, GOP sources say tonight. CBS News reports:

Republicans close to the White House tell CBS News chief White House correspondent Jim Axelrod that President Bush is in “his usual posture: pugnacious, that no one is going to tell him who to fire.” But sources also said Gonzales’ firing is just a matter of time.

The White House is bracing for a weekend of criticism and more calls for Gonzales to go. One source tells CBS News he’s never seen the administration in such deep denial, and Republicans are growing increasingly restless for the president to take action.

Also tonight, CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux reported: “Wolf, I have to tell you, I’ve spoken to a lot of people who are friends of those here at the White House and GOP strategists. They want Gonzales gone. They’re putting a lot of pressure on this president. One of them said, look, Gonzales has a constituency of one, and that is the president. But tonight, Wolf, White House officials who I’ve spoken to say that that is exactly the person who’s saving his job, that the president does not intend to let him go.”

If Bush refuses to listen to the voice of the people (again!), then it’s time for them both to be ripped out of office.

  2. Jake says:

So, is Bush REFUSING to fire an Attorney now an impeachable offense too? Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.

  3. veritas says:

Like Gonzo/So Bush – If Bush believes that his army of “one” is going to defraud the american people of their wishes (Repubs and Dems), then it’s certainly time for the american people to bring Bush his just punishment for his wrongdoing. It’s now going to seal Bush’s fate and bring on impeachment proceedings for sure. People have been giving him a “buy” because he’s a lameduck and the proceedings take too long and he’d be on his way out of office anyway. But this recent stance takes the proverbial cake….the american people have had a belly full of Bush’s antics but hoped that he could simply leave, albeit without a positive legacy of ANY kind, but leave quietly without further embarassing this country. Now the gloves are off! It’s time for this individual who believes himself to be on the fast track with his “father in heaven”, who hasn’t listened to the wishes of the people even once, and now is flaunting his army of one with regard to the wishes of everyone to dismiss Gonzales…..to be put out of office immediately.

He’s lost the trust and respect of the american people and is a liability to this country worldwide.

    Impeachment needs to begin now.

It is already established that *obstruction-of-justice* by a sitting president is an impeachable offense. The firing of the attorneys very well might be impeachable, if Bush caused it to happen.

There are so many reasons to impeach him though, why do you *pretend* this is the only one? Is that another bad *tactic* on your part, or are you just too st*pid to know what a complete fool it shows you to be?

Have you always been a bush-cultist? Or are you one of the *converts* that became crazy during the towers collapse?

If that attorney or other member of Bush’s team commits an impeachable offense and Bush condones or supports him/her it would seem there is another good argument for impeachment.

Personally, I hope Chimpy clings to the albatross slung about his neck that is Gonzo for as long as possible…every day he doesn’t distance himself from him is another day he further incriminates himself.

Yes, they both share the trait of being devoid of any personal responsibility while deflecting the *blame* for their actions on others. It’s a very typical response from someone that’s socially and morally challenged.

    Pugnacious:

March 13, 2007 –Our White House Press Corps sources report further disturbing news about President George W. Bush. Our sources have witnessed a clearly inebriated Bush approaching members of the press corps and making rude comments, including one particularly crude remark about First Lady Laura Bush. In that case, Bush, nodding toward Laura, called her a “c**t.” While Bush’s drinking is no secret to the White House press contingent, that particular comment was reportedly the worst they have heard uttered by Bush. Our sources also report that Laura Bush’s stays at the White House are less frequent and that her overnight trips to the Mayflower Hotel often coincide with the president’s drunken binges.

  31. PeterW says:

It is already established that *obstruction-of-justice* by a sitting president is an impeachable offense.

And don’t forget that he ordered the extraordinary act of refusing Justice Department investigators security clearances so as to derail the DoJ’s internal investigations into his own felony violations of FISA law. So there’s more than one obstruction charge looming over this man.

After each run they would scrape his brains off of the base of the sled into a bucket, turn him upside down, put a funnel into each nostril and pour them back in.

He still sloshes when he nods or shakes his head.

Every once in a while, the air relief valve at the back of his head malfunctions and a little grey matter drips out. Of recent, no one notices any difference when that occurs.

    Jake,

I’m just curious. Have you ever thought that perhaps the best way to live one’s life is to try to live ethically and to strive to be on the “side of right” (by that, I mean doing the right thing)? Why do you align yourself with a party (Republican) that obviously lies almost constantly and is full of corruption, dirty tricks, hate and intolerance? I’m not pretending that the Democrats are anywhere near perfect, but I do think that they’re less corrupt and less immoral. I don’t know if you’re religious, but if you are, wouldn’t you want to avoid a political party (Republican) that obviously has reached a new low in morality? Or are you so scared of the big, bad terrorists that any and all immorality is okay?

    1. He shows himself to be arrogant, in denial, and supportive of Alberto’s corruption by resisting calls for his resignation.

    2. He shows himself to be a flip flopper when, after digging in his heels, he’s forced to fire Gonzo in the end.

    3. In firing Gonzo, he loses one of his closest allies AND acknowledges said ally is too corrupt to remain in his position!

Meanwhile, one of the eight recently fired U.S. attorneys told Katie Couric he lost his job because he “did not play ball” with powerful Republicans.

“I believe, and I think all my colleagues believe, the real reason is partisan politics,” the former U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico, David Iglesias told Couric. “I believe I was fired because I did not play ball with two members of the Republican delegation here in New Mexico. I did not give them privileged information that could have been used in the October and November time frame.”

Carol Lam, who was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California, was described as an “effective manager and respected leader” in February 2005.

“I got great office reviews,” Iglesias told Couric. “I was not on any kind of resignation list until Nov. 15, 2006, and that was two weeks after I received two very inappropriate calls from two Republican members of Congress.”

Do you want the US to operate like a Banana Republic, or a Democracy?

Geez, they’ve been really bad lately, in general. It’s my opinion that ThinkProgress got a lot of attention when ABC was airing that stupid 9/11 movie. This site was totally bombarded with every sick-assed troll alive, and it’s never been the same since. Our comments used to show up immediately, but not since then.

Organized? I don’t know. I think some of them have their favorite subjects — like Daryll and his obsession with gay sex; or Seixon’s obsession with trying to debunk global warming. Lately we’ve the stupids: michael, mandolin, Patrick, Flaco, etc. They’re just here to disrupt, which they generally succeed in doing.

Since around the time you showed up (Hmmmmm…), or maybe it’s just the BushCo meltdown, they’ve been in quite the frenzy. It’s getting annoying.

This blog wasn’t mentioned in the movie, but since they did so much reporting on the movie, it got linked by a lot of other sites, and the trolls swarmed.

  186. Clyde the Ripper says:

    shane,

Please indulge this monologue for a few moments. In the early 1950’s I became involved with television from a technical standpoint that became the basis for a thirty year career in electronics. To this day, in my mind, the sole purpose of television is to provide a visual image of whatever sport is in season as an alternative, after reading and more recently , blogging. Television news is a joke–if you are in the latest traffic jam you can’t see the TV and if you are not, who gives a flying “F.” The point is that very few people today have the ability or inclination to think for themselves. I read and comment on TP because there are intelligent people here who do the same. There are also the uninformed and/or ill advised AH’s (Copyrighted) who are dedicated to the disruption of determined dissemination of desirable dictum. To those despicable deuterium we describe a delectable demise.

    Comment by Jake — March 16, 2007 @ 8:36 pm

Ha! Bush wasn’t elected the first go-around. Even the administration supports this. Ever read his bio at whitehouse.gov? It starts out like this:

George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States. He was sworn into office on January 20, 2001, re-elected on November 2, 2004, and sworn in for a second term on January 20, 2005.

Funny that his bio also doesn’t mention his other business dealings. Guess pointing out failure wouldn’t be prudent.

It’s frankly astounding that the leader of the most powerful nation on earth claims to hear God talking to him, telling him to do stuff (like depose leaders of foreign nations) and the citizens of that most powerful nation seem to be OK with that!

I wish people would start focusing more on Bush than Gonzales.

    According to Murray Waas…

    http://news.nationaljournal.com/articles/0315nj1.htm

Shortly before Attorney General Alberto Gonzales advised President Bush last year on whether to shut down a Justice Department inquiry regarding the administration’s warrantless domestic eavesdropping program, Gonzales learned that his own conduct would likely be a focus of the investigation, according to government records and interviews.

Bush personally intervened to sideline the Justice Department probe in April 2006 by taking the unusual step of denying investigators the security clearances necessary for their work.

This smells and awfull lot like OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE to me.

If we had a Press and Congress that had even a limp noodle for a backbone, this would certainly blossom into an Impeachment hearing.

They would have used this in a hot second, against Clinton, if they had the chance. Instead, they had to resort to a desperate, and absurd, “lying about a blowjob” attack.

    Sigh.

As the current corrupt administration dissolves into panic mode, you can see what “loyalty” means to the current corrupt president. You need to be loyal to him to the destruction of your career and your life, and he will be loyal to you as long as it is politically feasible. He learned that from his old man.

Now I’m kinda sorry I vehemently opposed the nomination of someone so pathetic as Gonzales. I was thinking of the country in the short term, but in the long run, watching Gonzales’ inevitable destruction continues to unveil to the uninformed what kind of miserable, corrupt, unholy administration we have been subjected to in the past six years.

Gonzales is a dead man. When the current corrupt president professes “loyalty” to you, you are just a couple of news cycles from being fired. Ask Dumsfeld and Brownie.

  230. JPV says:

    Chronic Troll Syndrome

    From Encyclopedia Dramatica

Chronic Troll Syndrome (CTS) is an internet disease (not to be confused with Internet disease) that is generally present in trolls. It causes the given troll to be unable to tell the difference between internet and IRL limits.

As a result, the troll is no longer able to comprehend what is appropriate to say and do when dealing with IRL people in contrast with the Internets. Symptoms include being inconsiderate and generally asshatty to friends and family, the common offensive use of racial epithets, and a tendency to interfere in other people’s business uninvited “for the laughs.” This in turn leads to a loss of said friends, associates of minority status, and a general alienation of all contacts outside of the Internet.

    Treatment

Chronic Troll Syndrome is easily cured by having said troll call a black person a n*gger on the street, or refer to all of their gay friends as fags. The resulting *ss-beating will generally shock the troll back into recognition of boundaries. However, if a case has continued untreated for long enough, this treatment may prove ineffective and only encourage the said troll. Additional loss of job, limbs, marital status, and life may be neccessary for more advanced cases. It is also possible to limit the damage by simply making sure that the troll has no IRL friends that (s)he can offend. This is clearly not the most desirable solution, but an inevitable one if cases continue long enough without proper care. Researchers have been trying since at least 100 years ago to find a 100% effective, ideal cure for CTS, but they have not yet been successful.

In extreme cases, the afflicted troll may begin using “I did it for the lulz” in order to attempt to justify inconsiderate IRL actions. If such symptom arises, it is suggested that an intervention be staged as soon as possible.

Gonzales likely doesn’t understand much, but he knows that once he has lost the confidence of the Congress and American people that he can be the people’s lawyer–all the Bush loyalty in the world can’t save his sorry ass.

  251. Jake says:

P.S. Jay — I hate to break the news, but Bush snuck back in while you weren’t looking and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with Prime Minister Ahern at the White House — why do you think he didn’t want to build that fence along the border?

P.P.S. It is the PRESIDENT, in fact, who has the Constitutional power to adjourn Congress — in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper (see Art. II, Sec. 3).

Jake, be careful about such language. It’s a safe bet this board is monitored closely by NSA and Homeland Security. You are the one who brought up assassination, not Above the Clouds. Don’t be surprised if you get a surprise visit in the middle of the night by government officials.

If you survive, you can come back here and tell us what it feels like to be whisked away to a black site and waterboarded.

  257. Jake says:

Good eye, then, Briseadh na Faire. You do realize, barring some unforeseen catastrophe, Bush is leaving office on January 20, 2008, right?

  258. Jake says:

I was simply asking “Above the Clouds” for clarification of his / her statement. BTW: I suspect anyone at DHS reading my posts will know who to waterboard ; )

  259. AboveTheClouds says:

Advocating impeachment and/or assassination are your words, not mine. Just think, if Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) and Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) decide not to meddle in “ongoing investigations” this story would likely have been pushed aside by other GOP scandals like the failed Iraq policy or the Walter Reed disgrace. You are using your own “Toensing” style of argument that narrows the “debate” to such a small and specific point that only your interpretation “NEW standard was that Attorneys investigating your own political can no longer be fired” is correct.

Jake, why don’t you go to right-leaning blogs where your opinions and views will be validated by others who think like you. People who frequent blogs like TP tend to disagree with the way the neocons have destroyed America. Though I don’t speak for you, I would think that you would be at least slightly dismayed that the neocon wing of the White House, who are neither conservative nor Republican, have destroyed any change any Republican has for election in 2008.

  260. Jake says:

Now, does that qualify as WMD people? Sounds like a chemical attack to me.

  261. Jay Randal says:

Bush does not have the power, nor authority to adjourn the Congress, but they can impeach him fast if neccessary. Articles of impeachment can be drawn up immediately and both houses of Congress can vote on the same day to remove him. GOPers in DC would be wise to do this with the Democrats, because Bush has gone crazy and is a danger to America.

  262. Jay Randal says:

  266. Solitaire says:

Bush has always cared more for his buddies in crime than the people of the United States. In fact, I suspect he’s the one who told Gonzales to get rid of federal prosecutors that didn’t pursue Dems exclusively. I am not at all surprised at his refusal to dismiss Gonzo. I hope and pray that this will continue to open can after can of worms until it is BUSH himself who will be dismissed. It’s high time the world was rid of this menace sitting in a seat of extreme power. It’s high time this country dumped his royal ass.

  267. veritas says:

It’s beginning to sound like Bush is at the base of this case of obstruction of justice, doesn’t it? Clearly, just like the other scandals, the buck seems to stop at the “fallguy” or “underling” instead of the way it’s always been in this country with the “buck stopping at the top”.

We have so much “finger pointing” to subordinates that people’s minds are finally realizing that the real finger is beginning to point to Dubya in all of these scaldalous, criminal activities.

When will the people awaken from the delusion of believing that the highest office in this country is occupied by someone who genuinely cares about our citizens? When will the people realize that the propaganda we’ve been fed all these years about the people coming first in this country is simply just that: empty propaganda.

When will the people begin pointing the finger where it truly belongs – at the Office of the President?

When will the people realize that, just as in the case of Watergate, it’s time for this guy to go? Actually, it’s well “beyond time”…..he’s functioning on “overtime” these days.

But, if the public needs to have a veritable avalanche of high crimes and misdemeanors, then let it pile up…..nasty scandal after nasty scandal…..corruption outed each day….the proof of the level of intentional “wrongdoing” and criminal behavior is HUGE at this point.

It should have been a foregone conclusion that, having been caught in Lie #1 (the pretext for the war in Iraq based on total lies), this president would have been gone!

Impeachment is THE ONLY REMEDY NOW!

  268. Jake says:

I shall return, after breakfast. Play nice until then.

  269. veritas says:

#261 The “articles of impeachment” have already been drafted and number in the vicinity of “12″ at this point. I’ve got the url from John Conyer’s investigation into it and I believe that they are now moving forward quickly to bring it to fruition.

  270. Jay Randal says:

A criminal president does not have the authority to adjourn the Congress, but Bush dunce can attempt it. Members of Congress can then refuse to abide and vote for Bush’s removal.

  271. veritas says:

TMI! Who gives a flying crap what the resident troll does? Good riddance to bad rubbish I say. Now the intelligent people can begin some credible dialogue.

  272. Jay Randal says:

veritas > Congress needs to act fast on impeachment, because Bush might try to declare martial law and adjourn the Congress afterwards.

  273. GSD says:

George W, Bush is PUDnacious. A total pud.

    -GSD

  274. AboveTheClouds says:

I would never suggest that he be killed–as you tend to want to lead the discussion. Gonzales will either resign or Bush will “fire him” that much is clear, evidence of his inability to advocate for all people of the US piles on every day. As I said, Gonzales has lost the trust of Congress and the American people that he can faithfully and equally provide justice. He has proven that he is just a political hack on the same level as Karl Rove.

  275. Briseadh na Faire says:

Good eye, then, Briseadh na Faire. You do realize, barring some unforeseen catastrophe, Bush is leaving office on January 20, 2008, right?

    Comment by Jake — March 17, 2007 @ 9:32 am

Jake, if you’ve been following these boards, you would know that I have already forseen just such a catastrophe, for I have seen the entire eastern seaboard of the United States in flames. If such a vision comes to fruition, millions will have died.

  276. Briseadh na Faire says:

As long as Congress remains impotent, there is no need to adjourn it. With the removal of language barring Bush from attacking Iran, Congress is giving the green light for just such an attack.

And the Democrats can hold all the hearings they want. What becomes of it? Kyle Sampson merely got shuffled to a new title for the Attorney General scandal. A general gets tossed for the Walter Reed scandal.

Meanwhile, Congress, with Democrats in the majority, goes about the business of authorizing all the money Bush is asking for, and more, to continue the war, including the “surge.”

We changed the color of the shirts, but it’s still the same “good ol’ boys club.”

  277. Jay Randal says:

Congress would be wise to confront the Bush Regime directly immediately, because 2/3 of Americans would back the Congress against Bush. Plus the military is unhappy with Bush, so it’s time to bring this to a climax.

  278. AboveTheClouds says:

Recall that Gonzales is our Attorney General because as Bush’s Counsel as Texas Governor, he had the uncanny ability to turn lengthy, complex death sentence cases into simple, bullet-points on one page for Bush to understand and both of them to read and giggle about. After they executed a record number of people, these two have brought their act national and we are all worse off for it.

  279. Rich says:

This development points out a simple fact:

The 2008 presidential election will be about which by candidate can demonstrate that they are in touch. That is the quality that Bush lacks most.

  280. WC says:

Hey Jake! You’ve got a post from me to answer under the Cummins thread.

  281. veritas says:

One would have to draw the conclusion that the first impeachable offense would be intentional presentation of bogus or false rationale to condone the occupation of a sovereign country. In reflection back to the moment when this country would realize the sad fact that we’d all been lied to, covert agents outed to squelch the “agenda” of the powers that be, and probably much, much more, AT THAT POINT IN TIME, the offense was impeachable. Had the “do nothing Republican Congress” who are now considered to be “complicit” in this nightmare acted accordingly and held Bush to the ethical/moral/legal standard as they’ve held past presidents who were impeached for one lie, just imagine THE NUMBER OF OUR YOUNGEST AND FINEST PATRIOTS ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT IRAQIS who would still be alive and walking the face of the earth?

Is it not safe to attribute these unnecessary deaths both to the commander in chief as well as his republican congress? And, since the american people KNEW that the pretext for this was was pure “fiction” (a mere pretense), it should have been our collective responsibility to remove both Bush and Cheney from office immediately.

Not having done that, we can readily see the “fallout” of the negligence of our choice to not hold them responsible for the continuation of a war based on bogus information and, as we’re learing now, outright lies.

Had we functioned as true patriots, we would have not tolerated things beyond the first lie. And now, as the death toll mounts, the economic destruction to our national debt accumulates, and the scandals proliferate daily, do must pause for introspection and say to ourselves, at this point in time: If we do nothing about this obvious corruption in the highest offices in this country, are we, ourselves, now being complicit in these crimes?

Everyone must search their individual souls. It’s quite clear that, had we done our patriotic duty some years back, we would not be in this morass of evil right now.

Had we done out patriotic duty back then (even with a complicitous Congress at that time), how many of our youngest and finest would still be alive to enjoy their families? How many innocent Iraqi women & children caught in the crossfire would be alive? Americans nationwide are now holding both this administration and the previous congress accountable and responsible for all of these unnecessary deaths.

At the point at which it became clear that this war was based solely on lies and misinformation, our troops should have been/could have been removed…..and the people responsible (administration & Congress) immediately ejected from office. We missed that opportunity to begin the healing process of this country and now we are all paying a very high price for the gross negligence of having done so.

  282. Briseadh na Faire says:

I agree, Congress would be wise to do that. But how many politicians are in the pockets of the War Profiteers and Corporate America?

More and more I get the feeling that Congress is putting on a show to placate the American People while the hidden agenda of American Imperialism continues to move forward.

If you look at it from the point of “we the people” are here merely to serve the ruling elite, and are allowed to live only so long as we continue to do so, what is going on makes a lot of sense. The government need only to keep the populace from violent revolt. And, should it turn violent, the government already has plasma, sonic, and microwave weapons at the ready.

Should those fail, the government can turn to a mercenary army to quell the populace, as it did with Blackwater in New Orleans.

  283. veritas says:

Gonzo has been complicit with Dubya for decades. No doubt he’s gotten Dubya’s butt off the burner many times so it’s very plausible that he might have enough on Bush that could be used against him making it impossible for Bush to fire him at this point. Very probable.

  284. veritas says:

#272 What’s also becoming crystalized in the minds of the people is that he will do whatever it takes to get his way, despite the wishes of the people, his own staff, and Congress. This is a classic example and will go down in history as the quintessential “abuse of power”….and we attributed that dubious accolade to Richard Nixon – hah! He makes Nixon look like a juvenile!

This latest “standoff” regarding the dismissal of Gonzales, albeit misplaced to some degree because the fickle finger of fate is pointing rapidly in all areas to Bush himself, will bring down the presidency. It will allow the Republicans to separate themselves from the disaster of this administration; it will allow the american people to function in a quasi-deluded fashion (this association being far less indicting as some others that will certainly be proven in the future), and a reason to take off the congressional gloves and call for his removal.

  285. Jay Randal says:

Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Harry Reid should contact the GOP leaders in the Congress to remove Bush, Cheney, and the entire regime cabinet. A caretaker government would then be installed for the rest of Bush’s presidential term in office. The caretaker president would NOT be allowed to run for office in 2008 election, so this would pacify both political parties to have a wide-open election in November 2008. Bush and his entire family could be sent into permanent exile to Paraguay and Cheney deported to the UAE or Saudi Arabia. This would give US a fresh start.

  286. veritas says:

#282 Was it Gore or Edwards who made “campaign finance reform” their top priority? Had we done that back then, these corporations would not have succeeded in making this a fascist nation, along with assistance from the administration, of course.

  287. J-rock says:

Congress would be wise to confront the Bush Regime directly immediately, because 2/3 of Americans would back the Congress against Bush. Plus the military is unhappy with Bush, so it’s time to bring this to a climax.

    Comment by Jay Randal

I said something like this in another thread. I think Bush/Cheney are as vulnerable as they’re ever going to get – the iron’s hot. Strike. People will support it.

I’ll say it again: if Bubba can get impeached for weaseling out of a perjury charge in the matter of a BLOWJOB, for heaven’s sake, why is impeachment out of the question now?

Is it because Democrats think this to be impolitic?

Are we back to business as usual?

If Dems really want to stop the occupation of Iraq, why don’t they try again to repeal the 2002 resolution?

    Argh, mutter, mumble…

  288. veritas says:

We all know that Gonzo is being made the scapegoat – By Congress, by the GOP, and by the administration itself. Fortunately, the “fall guys” are dropping like flies, leaving the ones really accountable and responsible bare and obvious to the american people.

I am reminded of the conclusion of the “Wizare of Oz” at this point – where everyone gets to see the inner workings of “the little man behind the curtain at Oz”….. It’s becoming the metaphor for this presidency – and quickly.

  289. veritas says:

    #287 clinton lied/monica sighed – bush lied/thousands died

I believe we have prima facie evidence for rapid impeachment in this fact alone, without the other 11 articles which have been accumulated.

  290. r€nato says:

LIBERAL BIAS! Gonzo has more support than just Bush! Barney the dog supports Gonzales as well!

  291. veritas says:

And at this point in time, THE PEOPLE would definitely support impeachment proceedings. Everyone’s head is spinning at the daily level of scandalous corruption within the GOP and this administration and we’ve just scratched the tip of one huge iceberg. If we were to unearth ALL of the high crimes & misdemeanors, it might take three decades (and probably will!).

  292. Jay Randal says:

J-rock > no need for formal impeachment, if Dem and GOP leaders go to Bush to demand that he resigns. This was how Pres. Nixon was taken down by forcing him to resign and agreeing not to prosecute him when he resigned. Congressional leaders have to do this now.

  293. veritas says:

The new mantra of the american people: FIRST LIE = shame on you ………….SECOND LIE = SHAME ON ME!

How many lies have we now tolerated and permitted? The number is mind-boggling…..especially when we call ourselves a government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE.

We, the people, have been complicit and derelect in our duties if We, The People, truly run this democracy.

We, the people, who stand back and accept lies from our highest officials, aid and abet this criminal behavior.

We, the people, will no longer be relevant in this country if we fail to take back our constitution and our rule of law.

We, the people, must act today and press for the immediate impeachment of those who have lied to us, misrepresented material facts to us, and continue to deceive us.

  294. veritas says:

Jay, I believe that’s what we’re witnessing right now. The longer Dubya insists on keeping Gonzales, more Republicans will find this behavior dispicable and join the ranks of the dems calling for removal of both gonzales and bush.

Besides, the longer this “dog & pony show” of Bush’s continue, the greater the probability that absolutely NO REPUBLICAN will be voted into office in 08 (or perhaps never again). This should send serious chills up the spines of those investing time and energy into political office.

  296. veritas says:

(sorry about the bold face type….don’t usually do that….too hard on eyes…mea culpa!)….

  297. Jake says:

LOL Jay Randal — no, I have a feeling you’re going to need a formal impeachment AND conviction this time around — that means 67 Senators! No freebie like last time with Nixon.

  298. Jay Randal says:

Bush Junior would basically be told that if he resigned, then no prosecution of his crimes would take place, and for the good of the nation he would be exiled to Paraguay. Bush Senior and the rest of the Bush clan would be deported to Paraguay for their own protection. Cheney would be given the same deal and flown into exile somewhere. Condi Rice and the other cabinet members would be given immunity from prosecution, if they agreed to leave the US. It’s time for the Bush Regime to be ended!

  299. WC says:

J-rock > no need for formal impeachment, if Dem and GOP leaders go to Bush to demand that he resigns. This was how Pres. Nixon was taken down by forcing him to resign and agreeing not to prosecute him when he resigned. Congressional leaders have to do this now.

    Comment by Jay Randal — March 17, 2007 @ 10:32 am

Unfortunately, I don’t think Bush would go for it. Heck, even if he were impeached and the Senate voted to remove him from office, I don’t think he’d go quietly. It would be a showdown for the ages…that’s for sure.

  300. Jay Randal says:

Jake LOL sorry, but Washington politicians believe in making deals for removal of dummies like Bush.

  307. Briseadh na Faire says:

One other problem, Jay. If we gave everyone in the Administration immunity, that still won’t prevent the international community from charging them with International War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity. Think back at what happened in Germany to Rumsfeld as soon as he resigned.

As a bit of a reality check, the security costs for Bush after (if and when?) He leaves office are going to be astronomical. We’ll probably have to pay for a brigade to patrol His Paraguay ranch.

  310. J-rock says:

Don’t worry, though, the only way millions of Americans are going to die anytime soon is if Democrats let the terrorists win.

I remember Bush claiming that the terrorists hated us because of our freedoms.

Then there was the Patriot Act.

Then there were secret torture camps and miltary tribunals usurping the function of courts of law.

Then there were illegal wiretaps by the NSA.

    Then…

    Maybe the terrorists already won.

  311. Jay Randal says:

LOL Jake I never said Bush Junior would be happy to leave office. Nixon told Kissinger he wanted to kill everybody, but Dicky soon realized that jail awaited him if he refused to resign. Bush baby will throw a tantrum, but then his daddy will say the gig is up and time to escape to Paraguay.

  312. Bobby Bacala says:

    Hasta la vista, Senor Schmuck!

  313. Jay Randal says:

Faire > that is why the Bush family would flee to Paraguay. That nation does not extradite anyone to the Hague court. They would be safe there. Cheney would need a similar nation to shield him. But yes if they ever strayed to another location, then they could get sent to be tried for war crimes at the Hague.

  314. WC says:

    Jake,

You are the one who seems to suggest I told you not to post.

As for your “answer” on the Cummins thread…HA HA HA!

More like an avoidance than an answer.

I asked 6 questions. You “answered” one. And it wasn’t much of an answer. Funny that during their entire career as a US attorney under the Bush regime, performance was never a problem until recent elections or until Jack A. got caught.

The question about Jews is irrelevant.

You need to re-think your appraisal of Bush. There is such a thing as State-Sponsored Terrorism. Bush is the Head of State of a Country that has killed and maimed innocent people.

He initiated two baseless Wars of Aggression.

Afghanistan was baseless, because the Taliban offered to extridite Bin Laden if given proof of his culpability for 9/11. Rather than sending proof, Bush sent bombs.

Iraq was baseless because “the facts were fixed around the policy” of going to war and a war of aggression for the purpose of regime change violates international law.

JAKE…You must have gone to the same law school that Gonzo attended (was it in Mexico?) since you utterly misread the provisions of Article II section 3 regarding the convening or adjourning Congress. I believe that this section was put in back in 1787 or so when the Congress did not meet on an almost permanent basis as it does now. In case of an extraordinary need, the President can call the Congress into session (if the Congress does not call itself into session, which can be done in a flash in this day and age). The President has absolutely no power to adjourn the Congress under any other circumstance. While you are reading Article I Section 3, please let your eyes wonder down to the next
Article, which you may soon have reason to ponder in depth.

ANd while at it, please read Article I of the Constitution, which creates a Congress (although you seem to not believe it has any validity these days, along with the rest of the Bushit cultist authoritarian neocons).

While I am not a lawyer, a common sense reading of the clear language in the document should be sufficient for most people who do not have delusional blinders on.

This is why…it’s called the U.S. Constitution. Article 2, Section 2. Perhaps if you would familiarize yourself with it, you wouldn’t be defending this administration.

“…he shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”

Shrub needs this like he needs another big, gaping hole inside his skull. Sooner or later — and probably sooner — Rove will manuever him into accepting that Abu G is toast.

Jay, I usually agree with most of what you write, but on this one, I have to strongly disagree. I do not believe these people should be allowed to escape either impeachment or criminal prosecution. They are war criminals who have caused the death and disablement of thousands of both Americans and Iraqis. Unless, and until, a President and Vice President is impeached, convicted and then tried for such egregious decisions and behavior, it will only encourage future adminstrations to do the same thing. Which is exactly what happened with the “deal” made with Nixon.

Jay, Bush isn’t in this alone, (nor is Cheney) and getting these individuals out of power isn’t quite enough. Anymore than getting Nixon and some of his cronies out of power was ever enough. Cheney may be considered the “man behind the curtain,” but there is another power, a group of people, a mind-set..that stands behind people like Cheney. Because, ultimately, Bush and Cheney (like Nixon before them) are expendable, politically. And, if not prosecuted, they will come back as “senior” statesmen or spokesmen, or influential in government and/or business in another way. In the meantime, they are easily enough substituted for with other “fronts.” Unless we can truly reclaim our democracy, this will be endlessly repeated by future administrations. And the only way to begin to redeem the form of government we believe in as Americans is to convict and punish those who betray our Constitutional values and laws for what they are…traitors.
