“People who understand the history and the mission of the United States attorney and Justice Department — they are uniformly appalled, horrified,” said Atlee W. Wampler III, chairman of a national organization of former United States attorneys and a prosecutor who served in the Carter and Reagan administrations. “That the tradition of the Justice Department could have been so warped by that kind of action — any American should be disturbed.”
…any American should be disturbed.

All true americans will see this as another abuse of power by the office of the president and a blatant “obstruction of justice” in it’s true semantic form.

March 17th, 2007 at 8:57 pmJusticia has always been depicted with a blindfold and scales. She is impartial and always seeks to restore balance.
Bush has removed the blindfold and replaced it with blinders. She is blind to the crimes of Bush’s cronies, and her gaze is fixed on seeking out and destroying Bush’s opponents.
The scales now holds the ill-gotten gains of Republicans on one side and are out of balance.
Yet Justicia also holds a double-edged sword. And she will wield it against those who attempt to pervert her towards their selfish ends.
Balance will be restored. Those who pervert Justicia will pay her price.

I think it is time for Gonzo to step down. The Dems are out for blood on this one. No law was broken but he needs to leave anyways but the Dems hate the idea of a Repug appointed minority in a position of power. They will continue to attack all the minority leaders in the repug leadership. I just hope that someday soon the minority groups in this country will wake up and realize which party does in fact allow them to be heard. I hope they wake up and realize which party is ok putting them in positions of power and which party enjoys attacking them because of who they are. I am guessing the Dems will go after Rice next. Luckily for Powell, he is out of office already or they would be attacking him to.
Wouldn’t it be easier for the Dems to consider appointing a few minorities of their own so they don’t appear to be still living in the past? Just because the Dems aren’t ok with minorities in power doesn’t mean they have the right to attack the repugs for being ok with it IMO.

Ray, there’s a skill and an art to cursing. One must choose one’s words wisely, for the law of Karma works the curse upon both the one cursed and the one who casts the curse. For example, if I wish someone to be visited by his greatest fears, I, too, will be visited by my greatest fears. That is one reason why those who walk the path of a Shaman begin by facing their fears.
I would not make such a wish for Bush, as I do not perceive him as stable enough to handle it. And he has access to nuclear weapons.
Just some thoughts.
March 18th, 2007 at 12:43 amR2, speaketh for the minorities, knows all about their life experiences.
March 18th, 2007 at 12:44 amnot.
How is it you can make such a claim before a proper investigation? There is the appearance, at least, that these firings constituted obstruction of justice. And that law hasn’t been repealed in spite of the outcry over Scooter Libby’s conviction for having broken it.
March 18th, 2007 at 12:46 am#63 I can make such a claim because the law if very clear. The president can fire a US attorney for any reason he wants. He can purge them purely for political reasons anytime he wants. It may not be wise and may look bad, but at the end of the day no law was broken because the president can fire them for whatever reason he wants. He can in fact, fire them for no reason at all if he wants. I am sure we can agree that this kind of stuff should be changed through congress, but today I can be sure no law was broken on Bush’ part because it is impossible to break a law that allows him to fire them at his leaisure even for political reasons. This is why I keep telling you all this is simply a show trial for Dem political gain. What would their investigation yeild them? WOuld it uncover poltical reasons for the firings? Who cares as that is perfectly within the law anyways.
March 18th, 2007 at 12:57 amHe can purge them purely for political reasons anytime he wants.

March 18th, 2007 at 5:29 amCan you tell us how many House Committees were chaired by minorities or women under recent Republican leadership? Maybe zero, eh? Try counting how many are led by minorities and women now. Allso, are you aware that one of the Attorneys fired by Gonzales, Iglesias, is also Hispanic and that another. Carol Lam, is a Chinese-American woman? If the Democrats end up going after Rice, it will be because of the lies she has told in connection to the build-up to the Iraq and not because of her race or gender. I think that perhaps with you your starting words “I think” may be an oxymoron.
Confession of 9/11 architect backfires on US
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s dramatic confessions before a US military hearing are beginning to backfire on the Bush administration. Legal experts are casting serious doubt about their validity as evidence, and human rights activists say they only illuminate a “sham process” of justice in the US war on terror, including the apparent use of torture on Mohammed and potentially dozens of other al-Qa’ida suspects.
The CIA denies that Mohammed was tortured, but evidence to the contrary has been building for years. Two years ago, a CIA official told ABC News that he had been water-boarded, and had won the admiration of his interrogators because it took him two to two-and-half minutes to start confessing – well beyond the average of 14 seconds observed in others.

Are you now a lawyer, that you can interpret the law? Have you studied employment law? I am, and I have. Even an “at will” employee cannot be fired for illegal reasons.

Roger is no lawyer. If an act which would normally be legal (say, firing a prosecutor) is done for the purposes of comitting a crime, (say, obstruction of justice), then that act becomes illegal.
heres some more Roger logic:
Swinging a bat isn’t illegal. THerefore, if I swing a bat at someone’s head with the intent to injure them, thats not illegal either.
Just because bush can do something legally, doesnt mean he can do that act if it involves commiting a crime rodger..
