“Multiple suicide bombings struck the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Anbar province, and about 350 Iraqi civilians and six U.S. troops were treated for exposure to chlorine gas, the military said Saturday. At least two policemen also were killed in the attacks.”
I thought there were no WMD in Iraq?
March 17th, 2007 at 11:47 amHmm. Wonder if the chlorine smells like flowers, or maybe candy?

March 17th, 2007 at 11:50 am222 people arrested; Bush away for weekend
About 100 people crossed the street from Lafayette Park — where thousands of protesters were gathered — to demonstrate on the White House sidewalk late Friday. Police began cuffing them and putting them on buses to be taken for processing.
Fear said 222 people had been arrested by Saturday morning. The first 100 were charged with disobeying a lawful order, and the others with crossing a police line. All of them were fined $100.
The windows of the executive mansion were dark, as the president was away for the weekend at Camp David in Maryland.
March 17th, 2007 at 11:51 amJake, you are an idiot. Chlorine bombs are not WMDs. There is no M in them. A conventional IED can and often does kill more effectively than an improvised chlorine bomb.
Honestly, Jake, are you really that stupid? It comes across like you are deliberately trying to act stupid, I suppose to get the attention you crave.

March 17th, 2007 at 11:53 amThe chlorine is being trucked into Iraq by Halliburton to treat drinking water because the water and sewage treatment plants were all destroyed in the early years of the invasion.
March 17th, 2007 at 11:54 amThe Republican Party of Death cheers again that more US troops are injured!
Soon they’ll be on their way home to a George W. Bush approved rat and roach hotel.
Congrats Republicans, freedom is on the march.

If all the ones who promote pain and endorse death had it knock at thier own door, imagine what sniveling, whimpering limp-dicks they would be. That’s the reality of the sick situation we have created not because we had to, but because we chose to. How about a reality check, Repub-fascists?
March 17th, 2007 at 12:02 pm# Five U.S. soldiers died in Iraq violence on Thursday, one in Salaheddin province and four in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said. On Wednesday, a U.S. Marine serving in Anbar province died, but not in combat, the military said Friday. The latest number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq since the war began is 3,210. That number includes troops and seven military contractors.
# A British coroner on Friday ruled that a U.S. airstrike that killed a British soldier in Iraq was unlawful and criminal. Oxfordshire Assistant Deputy Coroner Andrew Walker said the death of Lance Cpl. Matty Hull in an attack on his armored vehicle convoy in southern Iraq in March 2003 was entirely avoidable. March 17th, 2007 at 12:11 pmFour years later and apparently freedom smells like chlorine. The war mongers love this stuff…They love the fact that 6 US troops were wounded too.
They joke about it. They claim Iraq is in good shape even while the US death toll mounts.
Pretty sick to be happy about the deaths of US troops you wrongwinger trolls.

What an idiot.

Show me one instance of the Nazi’s dropping Chlorine bombs to kill ANYONE… Such a pathetic attempt at an excuse.

March 17th, 2007 at 12:33 pmA little more than half of the U.S. population lives in 75 metropolitan areas. Russia has 4,399 nuclear warheads deployed. Except for 624 to be carried by bombers, they are all land-based and submarine missiles.
Furthermore, this past week Russia test-fired a land-based missile, the RSM54, and a submarine-launched missile. Both were intercontinental. Both hit their targets dead-on. The sub launch was, by the way, the sixth such test-firing conducted this year.

March 17th, 2007 at 1:14 pmPalestinian unity cabinet approved
The Palestinian parliament has overwhelmingly approved a coalition government, bringing together the rival Hamas and Fatah factions.
While three members voted against, 83 members of the 132-member parliament voted for the landmark government on Saturday.
Forty-one Palestinian parliamentarians, including 37 from Hamas, are in Israeli jails.
The new ministers were later sworn in by Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, and could hold their first meeting on Sunday.
Shortly after the confidence vote was passed , Norway announced its recognition of the new Palestinian government.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Oslo also reported that Norway was ending economic sanctions against Palestinians.
Resistance continues
Before the confidence vote, Ismail Haniya, the prime minister, spelt out the new administration’s policies.
Haniya said “resistance in all its forms” was a “legitimate right”.
“The government will work with the international community to put an end to the occupation and recover the legitimate rights of our people,” he said.
The government would attempt to build a Palestinian state on the lands occupied by Israel in 1967, Haniya said.
Even Tony Blair said he would consider recognising this unity goverment
COME ON MISS RICE FLY OVER THERE YOU KNOW WHAT THE DEAL IS
The Next War
Israel has failed to convince Russia not to sell or give their highly effective anti-tank missiles to nations or movements in the region. They fear that even Hamas will acquire them. Syria is procuring “thousands” of advanced anti-tank missiles from Russia, which can be fired from five kilometers away, as well as far better rockets that can hit Israeli cities.
If the challenges of producing a realistic concept of the world that confronts the mounting dangers and limits of military technology seriously are not resolved soon there is nothing more than wars to look forward to. The IDF intelligence branch does not think a war with Syria is likely in 2007; other Israeli military commentators think that any war with Syria would produce, at best, a bloody standoff – just like the war in Lebanon last summer. Israel has about 3,700 tanks and they are all now highly vulnerable. Its ultra-modern air arm, most of which the US has provided, only kills people but it cannot attain victory.
March 17th, 2007 at 1:23 pmNOTICE THE (nonexistent) DEATH TOLLS.
No one, almost no one, is being killed by this gas. The effects are almost all reported as MINOR. ‘Treatment’ in hospital (such as exists) is basically keeping the airway open while the person recovers, usually in four to six hours.
I know of no report of a single chlorine fatality — the fatalities are dying from the BOMB, not the chlorine.
This is an attempt to provide a WMD subtext, this reporting. It is a desperation move. TRUE chlorine bombs would kill hundreds, thousands, gruesomely. This is a toxics spill, and harmful mainly to plants, paint, and THE TRUTH.
March 17th, 2007 at 1:23 pmBAGHDAD – Three suicide bombers driving chlorine-laden trucks struck in the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Anbar province, killing two policemen and forcing about 350 Iraqi civilians and six U.S. troops to seek treatment for exposure to the gas, the military said Saturday.

When the military told Rumsfeld that they needed 500,000 troops or else there would be an insurgency and chaos, where was your ’surge’ then?
Rumsfeld said, “We will do it on the CHEAP.” The record, as published in the rightwing “Cobra II,” is that Rumsfeld even suggested that 25,000 troops would be sufficient.
One presumes this is the same thinking that deployed FIFTEEN HUNDRED TROOPS TO TORA BORA, allowing Bin Laden and his group to escape. Gee thanks, Donald.
Gee thanks, George.
Gee thanks, Firehead. The U.S. Army War College says that at least 1/4 of our KIA have died as a result of LACK OF ARMOR. That also was one of Rumsfeld’s brainstorms, deploying 1 tank batallion instead of FIVE, and failing to armor our troops (when in fact armor was available).
Your apology to our troops is already overdue, fire.
March 17th, 2007 at 1:27 pmGuess some of the resident trolls here need to purport unrealistic concepts, ad nauseum. How can anyone intelligently attribute any form of terrorist tools TODAY to the hyperbolized WMD theory???? Duh! Too funny! Some people just dont “get” how stupid they are because they’re too stupid to have enough synaptic brain activity to make the correlation…hahahaha!
March 17th, 2007 at 1:59 pmYaparoo! The Infamous Surge is working well! Except it’s the enemies who are doing “the surging”….as for us, things are going swimmingly if you believe your own drivel.

March 17th, 2007 at 2:20 pmWhat about all the weapons of SLIGHTLY LESS than mass destruction.?? Iraq was awash in artillery shells and conventional explosives when our troops invaded . These are the same explosives which our troops drove right past .They were subsequently LOOTED and ended up in car and truck bombs.
March 17th, 2007 at 2:35 pmAnd why did our troops drive past these ammo dumps and not simply blow them up??? Because they were in a Hurry to find the nonexistent weapons of Mass Destruction, and didn’t have TIME to search them for chemical weaponry. They were afraid if they just blew them up, they might release chemicals inadvertantly. Pathetic War Planning by Bush and Rumsfeld.
And why did our troops drive past these ammo dumps and not simply blow them up??? Because…” –Badger
Two primary reasons why Al-Qaqaa and the other sites were not protected:
• NOT ENOUGH TROOPS.
• NO ORDERS.
Bush/Rumsfeld wrote NO orders to guard those materials, even after the head of the IAEA specifically, personally and in writing, notified the Bushies of the grave concerns for these sites, which previously had been under UN lockdown.
The reason why they didn’t deploy enough soldiers or write orders to guard munitions and nuclear materials?
THE POLICY HAS BEEN TO FOMENT CHAOS AND DISORDER.
This is GENOCIDE — it is not legal invasion, occupation, or restoration of local rule.
“There is no more Iraq. There will be three territories.” — arch-conspirator H. Kissinger, early 2004, overheard briefing his Saudi clients.
With FOUR carrier groups in the Persian Gulf by the end of month, this is very likely going to become a summer of great pain for us all.

Then again, people like Juan C are on the record as defending the “insurgents” and these attacks. So, I am not surprised at their silence in the wake of this latest atrocity.
