Bush Recycles Iraq Anniversary Talking Points»

bushside.jpg President Bush originally had no plans to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war today. But at the last minute, he cobbled together a quick speech — stressing the “good progress” being made in Iraq and warning that there will still be “bad days” ahead — that ended up being nothing more than a recycling of old talking points.

On good days, bad days:

March 19, 2007: “There will be good days, and there will be bad days ahead.” [Link]

March 19, 2006: Dec. 7, 2005: “There will be good days and there will be bad days.” [Link]

March 19, 2004: Sept. 25, 2004: “There will be good days and there will be difficult days.” [Link]

On progress:

March 19, 2007: “There’s been good progress.” [Link]

March 19, 2006: “I’m encouraged by the progress.” [Link]

March 19, 2005: “Iraq’s progress toward political freedom has opened a new phase of our work there.” [Link]

Bush continues to stay the course on talking points.

Works well. Write one speech. Repeat it when needed. Keeps costs down. Requires less practice too.

How dare he talk about freedom and the success in Iraq!!! Didn’t he get the talking points? We are only supposed to talk about the bad stuff happening in Iraq and act like not one good thing is happening there nor will any good happen there EVER!

    Comment by Yikes — March 19, 2007 @ 5:25 pm”

I think it asks “Got Wild Turkey?”

  10. Fritz Says:

Definitely the same old tired rhetoric.

I was amused by his peevish and defensive tone, though.

  11. carollt Says:

How lame. I am tired of hearing the same old lies. One thing is certain; the truth is something we will never hear from the lips of Mr. Bush.

  12. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid Says:

The progress is easily demonstrated by the fact that Bush has used the same talking points for 3 years. /sarcasm off/

  13. Zep Tepi Says:

So a friedman unit is 6 months whereas a Bush unit is one year.

    LMAO.

Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. 9/11. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course. Stay the course.

  18. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid Says:

DAILY VIOLENCE: Average number of insurgent attacks over four years - 108 per day. Average for August 2005 to January 2006 - 81. 1 per day. Average for November 2006 to February 2007 - 148. 9 per day.

Hard to find any “good days” in there. Where are those good days, hiding, Mr. Bush?

  19. jimbo Says:

listen… i ain’t on no psychiatric medications because i am perfectly
normal, but you put these power hungry parasites/leeches self will
running wild and to deal with it, i will guarntee you that as these
parasistes/leeches are exposed, guess how they deal with it.

you really think any of these parasites and leeches have a clear
concious? so get how they deal with it….. trusty doc of course :)

good days and bad days sure sounds mixed emotions and dealing
with conflicts and get how these totally corrupted leeches and
    parasites psychologically deal with it.

my understanding those pharma cures can completely change a pefectly
normal mind like a fried egg completely absent of conciousness/emotions
and just happen to take the edge off. who was it… sheehan saying
    completely cold and detached

oh yeh, there will be good/bad days, so just take a trip to his psychiatrist to get the prescription adjustment :)

since i ain’t on NO medications, i have to deal with it and it’s enough to make everyone in this totally politicized society PUKE!!

because in the politicized society with live in, there are also such things
as political leeches and parasites, cronyism, and corruption…

ya know, that too is also part of a totally politicized society

Please! You want me to check how many times FDR said “we have nothing to fear but fear itself”? I take it none of you have ever followed modern politicians very closely before — they give the same speech over and over.

And you believe it over and over.

  24. Rocks911 Says:

Thats your angle? compare the current retard in office with FDR, Christ you’re hopeless.

  25. John Says:

“There will be good days and there will be bad days.”
yea, only that most of the the “good” ones are manufactured propaganda.

  26. Tuber Says:

    #21-Joke,

FDR was preaching the truth. Bush is preaching lies and deceptions.

    Big difference.

You may find comfort in the lazy ignorance of believing Bush, but don’t expect others to follow you.

    Good riddance.

  27. pgw Says:

“we have nothing to fear but fear itself” isn’t the same as being in denial and repeatedly saying ‘we turned a corner’ every six months.

  28. dlet Says:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Is Bush trying to get all Dickens on us?

  29. Lucifer Says:

Wow. A politician who repeats himself. Never, ever, ever seen that before. Nope, Bush is a pioneer. Kind of like firing US attorneys. Never been done before. Nope. A trail-blazer, that Bush.

  30. Sammy the Cat Says:

Orwell and Leo Strauss are the inspriation for these criminals.

  31. hellinabucket Says:

You are absolutely correct on that Jake. Bush would give the same stale speech to the selected cattle over and over and over again. Remember when he botched the love making doctors up twice? That was rich. But are you saying that it’s ok for him to give the same old speech about a conflict that has lasted longer than WWII? And you spout FDR’s famous speech as something your tired of hearing. Don’t really think bush has earned to be put in the same sentence with FDR other than they are both presidents. FDR defeated the Nazi’s and the Japaneese. Got us out of the worst Depression in the history of the US and elected 4 times to the office of President. Bush. go ahead I’ll let you fill that trap.

  32. Zep Tepi Says:

Bush. go ahead I’ll let you fill that trap. -HIB

He has already stated that he plans to pass this off to the next president.
We used to call these types FNG’s. They would do something wrong then pass it off, after 8 hours of doing nothing, to the guy on the next shift.

    (FNG= F**k Next Guy)

  33. GSD Says:

Looks like his speech writer is just another Republican hack who was promoted even though he lacks talent.

  34. Smack Says:

I can’t wait till Bush is gone. Then the pukes can get off politics and go back to NAsCAR or Goat roping or whatever the &*#! they do with goats.

I’m so sick of these freaks that think being a patriot means sucking off the nearest Republican Politician. They might as well be supporting charles Manson as far as I’m concerned - except Bush is worse by far.

When the truth comes out about Bush Jr, some of these idiots will still love him - just like some morons still love Hitler or wave the confederate flag. I just hope we can find a cure for it.

  35. gummitch Says:

Please! You want me to check how many times FDR said “we have nothing to fear but fear itself”? I take it none of you have ever followed modern politicians very closely before — they give the same speech over and over.

    Comment by Jake

Put up or shut up, Jakie. He actually said, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” and it’s from his first inaugural speech in 1933. If you’d like to prove that he made that same speech repeatedly, or that particular portion of it, please do. Otherwise, stfu. Comparing FDR, who was a brilliant speaker and one who did his utmost to draw the nation together in the face of the Depression and a true world war, to Jimminy Bush is revolting.

  36. Marie Says:

He likes to make his personal imprint on his speeches.
    Obvious.

  37. Clyde the Ripper Says:

You are absolutely right. That is exactly why King George the Dumb was awarded the Ecology Man-of-the-Year Award. He has been recycling the same old sheet in his speeches for six years.

    **yawn**

    Chimpy’s talking….?

  39. Clyde the Ripper Says:

    #36 gummitch

FDR and KGtD can be compared quite nicely. They were/are both handicapped: FDR physically; KGtD mentally.

  40. Jake Says:

Look, people, I’ve lived through BOTH Presidents’ terms, so I can definitely compare them if I wish. I could care less if you think FDR was the only one preaching the truth or that the comparison should not be in the same sentence (at least Bush never sent Japs to intenment camps) or revolting, for that matter. Live with it.

    P.S. to gummitch:

Sorry, even though FDR was the first president to make his records available to the public through a presidential library, it doesn’t seem that they are searchable on-line yet — you’ll just have to trust my eye(ear)witness testimony or find some other way to look it up yourself.

  41. gummitch Says:

    Comment by Jake

Trust your testimony? You have got to be kidding.

You’re the same guy who was trying to pawn off Old English spelling (and badly, I might add) rather than admit to being sloppy. I wouldn’t take your word that the sky was blue.

  42. Arne Langsetmo Says:

Please! You want me to check how many times FDR said “we have nothing to fear but fear itself”? I take it none of you have ever followed modern politicians very closely before — they give the same speech over and over.

Short answer: “Yes”. Because I don’t believe a single word you say. That’s including “and” and “the”.

    How many times, Jake?

    Cheers,

He did send Arabs to Gitmo and other places of similar ilk.

“There will be good days and there will be bad days.”

Bush was really trying to explain his manic depression, not the war…Tomorrow Tony Snow will explain that this was just a Freudian slip….Guess the all the repetition means Bush has Tourette’s syndrome too.

P.S. Every day has been a bad day for America since the 2000 inaugural.

  58. ernieson Says:

Big Papa makes valid suggestions because Congress cannot nor will not rid us of the scourge that has its tentacles on all branches of govt.
A military coup or a massive physical effort of the people as suggested by Papa would be the only effective ways to change the situation unless the country waits until the 2008 elections hoping that the fix is not already in on them. It will be more of the same stay the course repetition and maybe a “nukuler” WW3. How much more of the greedy, power drunk, party-loyalty-before-country actions can this country withstand?

  59. chingebush Says:

I have several friends who are Bush supporters, even now, and I have had many conversations around a campfire about the big “WHY”, why do you support this ignorant evil man? In the face of all the facts, all the shit that this liitle man has brought to the world, how can any sane person defend him? And the answers are exactly like the religious freaks, “Because he’s a good man!”

He’s a “good man”????? No facts, no support, no logic. Just a belief that he is “good”. Because KKKarl says he is good?

The trolls are either very very stupid, or paid to do their work, or they live in the faith based world.

And they are wrong. He is evil. He is the worst person in the history of the USA. Yes Jake, even your long-ass history.

So trolls, why you defend the pitiful empty shirt?

    WHY??

SOMEONE SHOULD OPEN CHIMPya’s BACK AND REPLACE THAT BROKEN RECORD THAT KEEPS SAYING “There will be good days and there will be bad days” and “There has been progress” AND REPLACE IT WITH A RECORD THAT SAYS “I HEREBY RESIGN THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, ALONG WITH VICE-PRESIDENT RICHARD B. CHENEY, KARL ROVE, CONDOLEEZA RICE, ROBERT GATES, JOSHUA BOLTEN, MY ENTIRE CABINET AND THE ENTIRE WHITE HOUSE STAFF OF ADVISORS AND ASSISTANTS—”

  61. R Says:

Are we going to try this wank for treason, war crimes and crimes against humanity in my lifetime? I would love to see some progress in that area. Leaders in other countries have been charged, tried and executed for far less. The rest of the world will never trust us again unless we go the distance on this and I rather expect his death to be just the sort of sacrifice a good American would want to make. Right, Chimpy? Over three thousand others can’t be wrong!

  62. chingebush Says:

    R-

It would change the dynamics of our complacent government if they thought there was some accountability for their actions. Send 3,200 people to their death and several tens of thousands injured, not to mention the deaths and injuries of Iraqis directly caused, and you will have consequences.

If you are lucky, we will put you in jail. Or we may let you loose amongst the parents who have lost a child to your f**ing ego.

There wouldn’t be enough left to DNA test after they were through.

  63. R Says:

#62- I’m an activist militant from back in the Vietnam War days and all I can say is this administration had best not underestimate the people, when they have lost all they can lose.

  64. chingebush Says:

Did you serve? Not that that is a litmus test, just a context question. An illegal war is just that.

Can you say “frag the bastards”?

Look it up, it’s a normal response. And the right one.

  65. R Says:

#64- Yes, I served as a medic stateside (thank, God) not in Vietnam, itself. I know what fragging is, too. I enlisted to advoid the draft and I was really young and naive.

  70. Concerned American Says:

All of your comments are quite amusing…… You write about Bush’s repetition, but that is exactly what each of you are doing over and over and over and… I think you get the point.

The fact is, if this “war” is illegal, then why aren’t any of you doing anything about it? Are you leaving it up to your so called democrats in congress to do it for you? All of this posturing is really nothing more than political rhetoric (from both sides I might add) and you’re all buying right into it. Spouting off insults and degrading the President is nothing but foolishness, and definitely won’t make a difference (except maybe to make you feel better). Don’t you think if it were illegal, then the democrats would actively pursue at least impeachment?

Are you really so naive to think Democrats and Republicans are so different? Democrats are just as bad…… they are wealthy……. they really could care less about you, except they want your vote come election time…… they live in places where I would assume most of us can’t afford…… Politicians are just that….. Politicians…. it’s all about power, and with power, comes money.

I’ve read over and over that this “war” is about “OIL”… Well, in part yes…. why? Because it’s in the best interest of the United States of America… !! Do YOU want to pay $7, 8, or even $10 a gallon for gasoline (some European countries pay that much)? Did you know that on average 1/3 of the $’s you pay for gas is taxes? If this “war” is so disgusting to you because it’s all about oil, then quit using it! Do you ride a bike to work or school (oil, gas, tires, transmission fluid, power steering fluid)? Do you use wood to heat your homes? Fortunate or unfortunate, the fact is America is dependent on “OIL” and without it we revert back to 1800’s. Is reality setting in yet??

Point: IF YOU HATE AMERICA AND/OR WHAT IT STANDS FOR………. Then either do something about it VOTE (I would be curious to know how many of you actually voted in the past 4 years), or leave the country….. maybe you would rather live in a communist country where everything is handed to you……… OH WAIT!!! That’s right it only works in theory….. just read about conditions in East Germany before the wall came down….

    I’ll anxiously await your insults!!!!
