“The military is considering installing surveillance cameras in recruiting stations across the country, the most dramatic of several new steps to address a rise in misconduct allegations against military recruiters — including sexual assaults of female prospects and bending the rules to meet quotas. … Recruiters may also be required to give potential recruits ‘applicant’s rights cards,’ spelling out what a recruiter can and cannot do to get them to enlist.”
Of course the administration will protest, as this CLEARLY emboldens the terr’ists.
March 19th, 2007 at 10:06 amWhat a novel idea. Requiring them to live by the rules. Who’d a thunk in the Bush Administration something like THAT could happen?
March 19th, 2007 at 10:08 amThe military is desperate to look more appealing to potential recruits, seeing as how this administration’s insane foreign policy has bled it dry.
March 19th, 2007 at 10:08 amThey should recruit more used car salesmen to become recruiters.
March 19th, 2007 at 10:17 amClose the deal! Close the deal!
sexual assaults of female prospects
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell!

March 19th, 2007 at 10:25 amHmmm,
We lower the bar on entrance criteria to enlist to a point where felons and sex offenders are accepted.
We lower the standard of care at our VA / DoD medical facilities to a point where rodents & mold are the furnishings & our soldiers sleep in their own urine.
We lower the bar on US Attorneys to a point where if you’re not investigating the ‘other side’, you’re out of line & out of a job.
We lower the bar on personal privacy to a point where the FBI is collecting illegal wiretap info on American citizens.
We lower the bar on personal decency to a point where a Congressman is soliciting Pages for sex while that fact is being covered up by his own party.
Meanwhile, we raise the bar on access to FOI documents with the Bushlickers claiming ‘Classified’ or ‘Security’ issues at every turn.
We raise the bar on access to health care, with HMO’s & the industry allowed double digit increases in premium costs for nearly a decade.
We raise the bar on gas prices, claiming short supplies & ‘worry’ over the Middle East as justification for collusion & price gouging.
We raise the bar on tax cuts to a point where only the top 2% of Americans qualify.
Heckuva job, Bushlickers!
March 19th, 2007 at 10:36 amPersonally, I don’t know how much more of these ‘good times’ I can take.
Good luck stopping this vile problem!
March 19th, 2007 at 10:45 amI’m not surprised. I went through the recruiting process last fall. My recruiter and his boss strongly encouraged me to lie about my medical and drug history on my enlistment papers. It made it impossible to trust them later when they were advising me on other stuff so I ended up leaving MEPS without signing up. Kinda sucks, ’cause I was looking forward to serving my country, but I’m not putting my ass on the line for 4 years of service if I can’t deal with an honest broker up front.
Cameras in the offices won’t help, though. Prospective recruits spend a lot of time being taxied about by recruiters so there’s plenty of other opportunities for abuse outside the recruiting office.

Are the recruiters hounding you yet?
March 19th, 2007 at 11:27 amI seriously doubt it will solve or address any problem constructively. This must be all for show and to impress some naive concerns.
March 19th, 2007 at 11:27 amThe Recruiters should camp in front of the homes of some of the idiot right-wingers that post here.
Recruiters should hang out at NASCAR and Monster Truck rallys.
…not that there is anything wrong with those fascinating sports.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:03 pm#9 Not yet, but I’m sure they will be very soon. The school I’m in has a college fair every year, and the US military gets an entire row to themselves for each branch. The military also frequently comes into the school during seminar which we can optionally join in.
I see a lot of kids fall victim to it. It saddens me somewhat, because I know that these kids are going to be some richer man’s pawn. But, who am I to be telling them how to live and potentially end their life?

If you are serious about serving, let me know. I am a former Recruiter. You can contact me off the blog, tell me your situation and I will let you know honestly if you would be enlistable, without having to lie. I actually have a copy of the MPPM in my office and I would not promote any particular service.
BTW, I hope you told the MEPS rep that your recruiter wanted you to lie.

Where they should be installing surveillance is in the House and Senate, especially the cloakroom, lounge, and offices. It would be the best reality tv ever, and it would put them on notice that we actually are watching what they are doing.

March 19th, 2007 at 1:56 pmWhat Bushland Uber Allies HAS to REALLY WORRY ABOUT is the HOMOSEXUAL PREDATION of these DASTARDLY recruiters, WHICH HAS NOT YET COME TO LIGHT, BUT WILL SOON ENOUGH, HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!!!!!
