“Amid bipartisan calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ resignation in a scandal over dismissals of eight federal prosecutors, the White House said Monday, ‘We hope he stays.’ When asked if Gonzales will serve for the rest of President Bush’s term, White House press secretary Tony Snow said, ‘Well, we hope so.‘”
Tina’s here,we’re getting back together!
March 19th, 2007 at 11:36 amI hope Gonzales stays (or bring back Ashcroft : )
March 19th, 2007 at 11:40 amGonzales is a damned Neanderthal.
March 19th, 2007 at 11:40 amIs that the kiss of death, or what?
March 19th, 2007 at 11:41 amThat White House support weakens every day. Bush wouldn’t be President if then Judge Al Gonzales hadn’t dismissed Governor Bush’s DUI. Yes Bush has said he stopped drinking in 80’s but he lied and was in court in 1996 for a DUI. As Daddy Bush wanted the idiot to be President, this problem had to disappear fast. In comes a Spanish Judge name Al Gonzales who like Harry Potter did a magic act and made the DUI disappear. Bush was so grateful he appointed his now Spanish friend as Council to the President. As more Spanish votes were needed again Al helps. As Bush was doing his crime wave with no complaints he wanted his friend Al to be a Supreme Court Justice no luck so he appointed Al as Attorney General. Yes Al was clue less as to what an Attorney Generals job is but Karl Rove fulled in the blanks. Now you see how we’ve gotten to this point today.

Comment by Caveman
I’m not 100% in love with your tone right now.
March 19th, 2007 at 11:45 amBye, bye, Alberto- bye, bye. George is going to miss all those late-night work sessions and your full, sweet lips wrapped around his… fine imported cee-gar. Take a hike, you common criminal. See you at the trials.
March 19th, 2007 at 11:47 amJake, I already posted your comment of the day for you on the Think Fast thread (#16) so shut up and get out of here. I will post the same comment for you every day this week, so don’t bother showing up.
March 19th, 2007 at 11:47 amThe longer this money stays as AG, the more votes Democrats will get in the next election. The Republicans are just making sure that Congress will have a fillibuster proof majority.
March 19th, 2007 at 11:49 amGonzo, your mother is SO PROUD of all that you have been able to achieve in your short and shooting star-like life. What an inspiration you are to your race and family. Now, all little brown children everywhere can hope, reach for and attain a cell in a federal prison in thier home state, too. You’re such a wonderful role model for all to admire. Bravo!
March 19th, 2007 at 11:56 amIn case you needed any more justification for Gonzales’ departure, see:
March 19th, 2007 at 11:57 am“Top 10 Reasons Why Gonzales Must Go.”
Monkey, not Money
March 19th, 2007 at 11:57 amOf course they hope he stays. Can you imagine what will happen when he appoints a new AG. The appointment has to be voted on in Congress and they are going to have a field day bringing up all the things that Gonzo did to stomp on the constitution, Geneva Conventions and our privacy rights. All of Gonzo & Bush’s transgressions will be there for the world to see. If Bush could just appoint a new AG without having to have his appointment confirmed, Gonzo would have been gone a long time ago. The Bushies and the Republics are scared shitless as to what is going to craw out from under their rug in the confirmation hearings for a new AG.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:02 pmI hear a fat lady singing.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:09 pmYeah, it’s the kiss of death. When this WH wants to make a point, they employ serious hypebole. If Gonzales were gonna last, they’d stay something like, “Alberto Gonzales will be the Attorney General for the next two years,” something emphatic like that.
Saying “we certainy hope so,” is like saying he’s got a “nice personality”.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:17 pmSounds like somebody got up on the wrong side of the rock.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:18 pmThe position of the White House is not really all that surprising.
“She’s referring to the fact that my Attorney General, longtime friend, a guy who was my — close when I was the governor of Texas, came up to Washington with me as part of the movement of Texans south to north during the government. He’s been my lawyer in the White House; he’s now the Attorney General; he’s under — he’s being criticized. I don’t like it when a friend gets criticized. I’m loyal to my friends. And all of a sudden this fellow, who is a good public servant and a really fine person, is under fire. And so, do I like it? No, I don’t like it, at all.” -President Bush when asked about criticism of Alberto Gonzales, Denmark, July 6, 2005
In Bushworld duckspeaking doublethinkers are doubleplusgood.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:18 pmVerbalKint:
Thanks for the effort (I guess) but I have never stated “Two wrongs make a right.”
March 19th, 2007 at 12:19 pmGonzales must resign, and then Bush and Cheney too!
March 19th, 2007 at 12:25 pmThey also wish he’d have a stroke and be unable to speak until Jan 09.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:26 pmHe knows where too many skeletons are buried, and which closets they’re buried in.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:28 pmGoonzales must go!
March 19th, 2007 at 12:28 pmThen Impeach!
“I hope Gonzales stays (or bring back Ashcroft : )”
so you’re a ‘registered independent’ who doesn’t want to have an attorney general/justice department that’s independent?
March 19th, 2007 at 12:29 pmpgw ~
March 19th, 2007 at 12:43 pmNo, you misunderstood.
He’s a registered sex offender in DePendant, Indana.
Hope, the same strategy they have for Iraq.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:44 pmJake sez:
Not word for word, no…but you have repeated “CLINTON DID IT! CLINTON DID IT!” ad infinitum, which is merely a more specific application of the general rule.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:46 pmTripMaster Monkey:
As I have explained repeatedly, I didn’t think what Clinton did was wrong and I don’t think what Bush did was wrong.
pgw:
I’m a conservative Independent, but come on, compared to Speedy “Torture” Gonzales, even John Ashcroft’s got to seem pretty darn Independent, right?
March 19th, 2007 at 12:52 pmHAHAHA!!! They’re already back-pedaling from Bush’s chest beating statements on Friday in preparation to throw Gonzo under the bus.
This just makes Bush look ridiculous. Dumbya is the yippy little dog that barks and barks to show how tough he is and then runs and hides under the bed when challenged.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:53 pmBush will rue not dumping Gonzales last week.
March 19th, 2007 at 12:57 pmClinton may have done it too, but not in the MIDDLE of his administration.
Yes, Gonzalez is on his way out. For some reason, I keep waiting to hear Chimpy say, “Al, you’re doin a heck of a job!”
They all are running scared at this point. Good point, War4Sale, he is like a yap dog. All bark, no bite.
March 19th, 2007 at 1:02 pmJake sez:
And as I have explained repeatedly, there are significant differences between what Clinton did and what Chimpy is trying to get away with. Attempting to conflate the two is flat out dishonest, regardless of whether you do it by claiming both actions were unlawful, or both actions were lawful. It all boils back down to “CLINTON DID IT”…a viewpoint that states that since a president you don’t like got away with something, a president you do like ought to be able to get away with it as well.
Poisonous disingenuousness vs. terminal stupidity. Which is it this time, Jake?
March 19th, 2007 at 1:09 pm“I’m a conservative Independent, but come on, compared to Speedy “Torture†Gonzales, even John Ashcroft’s got to seem pretty darn Independent, right?”
referring to a latino as ’speedy gonzales’ doesn’t reflect well on your judgement. didn’t you vote for jfk? got any funny catholic nicknames for kennedy?
March 19th, 2007 at 1:09 pmDid everyone see the LA Times article about the firing of Carol Lam?
…on May 10, Lam “sent a notice to the Justice Department saying that there would be two search warrants sent in the case of Dusty Foggo and a defense contractor. The next day, an e-mail went from the Justice Department to the White House.”
The May 11 e-mail was from D. Kyle Sampson, chief of staff to Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales, to White House Deputy Counsel William Kelley. “The real problem we have right now with Carol Lam … leads me to conclude that we should have someone ready to be nominated on 11/18, the day her four-year term expires,” it said.
You’ve got to be deep in right wing Denialand to read this as anything other than an attempt by the White House to shut down the Duke Cunningham investigation which looks an awful lot like obstruction of justice. Administration officials could very well be indicted over this. No doubt Rove has already lawyered up.
Democrats turn up heat on firing of U.S. attorney
March 19th, 2007 at 1:11 pmWar4Sale:
Duke Cunningham was IN JAIL on the day Lam was fired. What more was there to “shut down”?!
March 19th, 2007 at 1:14 pmTripMaster Monkey:
As I told you before, there are more possibilities — for instance, it could be BOTH poisonous disingenuousness and terminal stupidity.
pgw:
Did you so note every time some liberal here called the Attorney General ” Speedy Gonzales”? I didn’t think so. Since I have admitted to that, yes, I did vote for JFK and, being Catholic myself, I’ve got plenty of funny Catholic jokes.
March 19th, 2007 at 1:18 pmJake,
The investigation widened to include two of Cunningham’s associates – Kyle Dustin “Dusty” Foggo, a top CIA official who abruptly resigned May 8 and a defense contractor named Brent R. Wilkes. Lam indicated in her e-mail that two new search warrants would be issued, so it’s likely that additional evidence would have been uncovered that could have linked other Republicans to this corruption scandal. We don’t know at this point – because the next day, the White House began moves to sack the prosecutor.
It’s really not that complicated, but you really should actually read the articles before you begin making the excuses.
March 19th, 2007 at 1:22 pm“Duke Cunningham was IN JAIL on the day Lam was fired. What more was there to “shut downâ€?!”
the eventual indictments on wilkes and foggo, the #3 man at the c.i.a. those indictments were handed down last month.
March 19th, 2007 at 1:22 pm“I did vote for JFK”
and you haven’t voted for dems since?
March 19th, 2007 at 1:23 pmJake sez:
Actually, Jake, no. A terminally stupid person would be incapable of the requisite disingenuousness.
So, in this case, it looks like terminal stupidity. Perhaps you’re off your meds.
March 19th, 2007 at 1:28 pmGone-zo is so good at carrying out Bush’s orders and making all of his un-Constitutional “Deciding” become “legal”.
March 19th, 2007 at 2:06 pmWhy wouldn’t Bush want him around?
Gone-zo is a “Brownie” in the truest sense of the word. He’s the least qualified man to ever be Attorney General. The only qualification he ever had was making everything Bush ever wanted to do, criminal or otherwise, legal.
Brownie Gone-zo “serves at Bush’s pleasure”. America be damned!
Gone-zo! Yer doin’ a heckuva job!
You can’t fire that cute little Mexican
March 19th, 2007 at 3:12 pmWar4Sale and pgw:
the eventual indictments on wilkes and foggo, the #3 man at the c.i.a. those indictments were handed down last month.
So, no harm — no foul. Of course I know that Lam was looking at other politicians — my point was that she was DONE with the “Cunningham investigation” that everyone keeps bringing up.
P.S. I have voted for dems since JFK.
March 19th, 2007 at 4:14 pmI read this as a signal that Gonzo will resign soon. Bush won’t “fire” him – and he will express regret that his friend is under so much pressure that he feels he has to exit his office.
March 19th, 2007 at 4:40 pmGONZO, “WE HATE TO SEE YA–GO!
March 19th, 2007 at 10:05 pmWE HATE TO SEE YA–GO!
SO WHAT THE HELL ARE YA WAITING FOR?
WE HATE TO SEE YA——–GO, GO, GO MAN VAN GOGH!!!!!”
