Rove gets touchy.

By Nico Pitney on Mar 20th, 2007 at 4:09 pm

Rove gets touchy.

The Kansas City Star reports on President Bush’s visit to a GM plant today:

Besides his considerable security contingent, the chief executive was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and Press Secretary Tony Snow.

A reporter approached Rove to ask him what he thought of rumors that former Missouri Sen. Jack Danforth could replace embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. “How about you go over there and do your job,” Rove replied, pointed back to the media pool.

  22. JPV says:

I suppose that by saying “do your job” he meant “repeat our talking points/press releases and then shut up”.

Yeah, pretty arrogant. Then again I would expect that from rich elitists that bekiele they are above the law.

I find that EXTREMELY telling… indeed.

Ooopsie. Looks like the reporter needs to go back to school to Journalmalism 101:

    Yeah!!!

How dare a reporter ask a public figure a question???

Doesn’t everybody know how dangerous it is to answer questions form reporters?

It would be different if Rove was innocent, wouldn’t it?

Then he would have nothing to worry about.

Anyway, this is actually a good sign. The are VERY worried about something.

Jake….. I found a place in the Constitution that grants this type of Immunity to the Congress, but I could not find one for the President! Please provide where in the Constitution that I missed that!

“The Senators and Representatives … shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.”

    Comment by DM — March 20, 2007 @ 4:22 pm

Yeah, but there are almost NO cases of anyone being procecuted for lying to Congress. So it is VERY important for them to be sworn in.

  48. DM says:

The whole ‘under oath’ thing is pretty overbown. If you lie to Congress – oath or no oath – you have committed a crime that is punishable by up to 5 years in prison. The reason they make you say the oath is for them to have easily documentation that you understood the penalty for making false statements to Congress. Someone like Rove – in spite of his sparse education, used only to avoid the draft – should already know in his capacity as deputy chief of staff and with his security clearance, that lying to Congress is a huge offense, and you can probably find him on record saying so on more than one occasion. In any case, a defense of ignorance will not exonerate him from false testimony.

  49. Tap Duncan says:

I sincerly hope that reporter didn’t go running back to the pool with his sack tucked back. Just once I would like to see someone stand up to this prick and his little boy-toy. 50. obsessed says:

This is promising. Thus far, all we’ve seen from Rove is that smug, unflappable, know-it-all grin. If things weren’t spiraling out of his control he would have had a glib comment for the reporter.

    Yes it is…..

This way the Repubs can’t go and twist the story to fit their needs like they did in the Senate report about the Plame documents, which we now know was fabricated to fit their needs.

Putting them in the open gives no means, or at least little means, for them to be able to twist the facts much like what YOU love to do.

Our country was not founded on keeping things secret and from the public. It was founded on open government! If this administration has nothing to hide, why are they trying to hide everything?

Fortunately, congress is going to tell them to pound sand and then subpoena them for very public, very recorded, and sworn testimony.

We are at war. The enemy does not get 4th Amendment rights.

    Qudrajet:

“Merely reported” with the ROVE GETS TOUCHY editorial? No wonder you don’t think there’s a liberal bias in the media.

  110. Jake says:

    RemoveBush:

“Crappy, non constitution DOJ crap”? Oh, you mean the “crap” that every federal law enforcement officer who you ask to arrest the President of the United States is going to refer to? You read ALL of the U.S. Supreme Court cases cited in that OLC memo? Once you tell me you’ve done that, let me know if you still don’t understand the Constitutional issues.

  111. Quadrajet says:

OK Jake, how would you describe rove’s reaction?

  112. Scott says:

I’m really looking forward to seeing what new controversy the GOP can dig up in an effort to divert attention away from the Gonzales mess.

I can’t imagine anything could trump this scandal, but I don’t put it past the GOP. They are pretty good at scandal diversion via new scandal. I’m sure the next scandal will be jam packed with “shock and awe”

  113. rocks911 says:

    Jake,

I know you’re way old enough to remember when a mentally constipated conservative punk thug named McCarthy hauled private citizens in for questioning, well it’s our turn to haul in a mentally constipated conservative punk thug named Rove.

Aint it time for your changing old man?

  114. Jake says:

Did you guys see / hear the President’s speech? Drudge is reporting: BLOCKS SUBPOENAS “there will be no show trials”!!!! LOL

    Your move.

“Rove Refuses to Answer Reporter’s Question”

    rocks99:

  116. Tobey Tall says:

US troops in Iraq want out

For US troops from 9th Cavalry Regiment bumping around the dangerous streets of Baghdad in Humvees after dark on Monday, news that their deployment in Iraq could be extended fell like a hammer blow.

“We just want to get out of here as soon as possible,” said one vehicle commander in one of his few printable comments.

“It could be tempting to look at the challenges in Iraq and conclude our best option is to pack up and go home,” Bush said, four years to the day after he announced that American troops were fighting to depose Saddam Hussein.

But the lower ranks were in rebellious mood, especially after publication of a poll on Monday, commissioned by the BBC, ABC News, ARD German TV and USA Today, which showed only 18 percent of those questioned had confidence in US and coalition troops, while 78 percent opposed their presence.

“Drudge is reporting”, that’s a st*pid combination of words! BAHAHA, it sure does center you in the middle of the idiot brigade Jake! When you’re done Jake’ing off all over the thread, go back to the other little old men, and play checkers. We *real* men in the world can’t be bothered with ignorant dottering old fools like you. We have a democracy to save from you idiots!

  118. ValiantVenusGrewFromUranus says:

You were never taught to respect your elders, huh?
    Comment by Jake — March 20, 2007 @ 5:59 pm

Some people get wiser, others just get older and more foolish. What exactly are we supposed to respect again? Your stupidity or your ignorance, or maybe it’s your blind obedience and hypocrisy. Dum bass.

  119. alp3 says:

I’m sorry, Jake. Where does it say that the reporter was a “liberal.”
Is that hidden in the Constitution? Do you have a link to back that
statement up? Or are you going to direct me to a past thread, where you
proved that the reporter was a liberal.

What’s the story here, Jake? I need proof. Post a d*mn link already!

Wait! Hold the phones, Jake. I was just told by the constitutional Lawyer
sitting next to me at the busstop, that there appears to be nothing in
the Constitution that says you have to answer that question, or even
provide me with a link of any kind. You win again, Jake.

Also, he seems to be under the impression there is not a gawl darn scribble anywhere in the Constitution that says anything about “links” or providing “links” to anyone at all!

    Dang, you’re good at this!

    *poof*

  120. Jake says:

    Tobey Tall:

This thread is about Rove (and, hopefully, now that the President has told Congress to go pound sand on subpoenas, we can really see what a bunch of impotent cowards they are). Please find one of the dozens of threads about Iraq to post that on.

  121. Jake says:

Which is why I asked if anyone saw / heard the President’s speech, ValiantVenusGrewFromUranus — are you saying Bush did NOT tell Congress to go pound sand?

  122. Jake says:

I will prove the reporter is a liberal, just as soon as RemoveBush reads the OLC memo ; )

  123. Flaco says:

Jake they are hiring hereat TP. They could use a sharp dude like u.

I hear they pay their help with “Carbon Credits” though so maybe pass.

  124. Jake says:

BTW Valiant — are you denying that the President said this: “We will not go along with a partisan fishing expedition,” Bush said. “I have proposed a reasonable way to avoid an impasse. I hope they (members of Congress) don’t choose confrontation.”

Bush said he has given Gonzales and other members of his staff the green light to speak with Congressional committees to explain how the decisions to oust the prosecutors were made, with the caveat that their conversations are not conducted under oath.

“In this case, I recognize the importance of Congress understanding how and why this decision was made,” Bush said. “So I’ll allow members of Congress to interview key members of my staff.

“In the past 24 hours, the Justice Department has provided more than 3,000 pages … including those reflecting direct communication with White House staff,” Bush said in an evening press conference Tuesday, calling the move “unprecedented.”

BTW Valiant — are you denying that the President said this: “We will not go along with a partisan fishing expedition,” Bush said. “I have proposed a reasonable way to avoid an impasse. I hope they (members of Congress) don’t choose confrontation.” Comment by Jake — March 20, 2007 @ 6:11 pm

I’m denying its relevance, and yours – dum bass!! BAHAHAHA

Bush said he has given Gonzales and other members of his staff the green light to speak with Congressional committees to explain how the decisions to oust the prosecutors were made, with the caveat that their conversations are not conducted under oath.
    Comment by Jake — March 20, 2007 @ 6:11 pm

Why? If they have nothing to hide, why is it a problem to testify under oath? After all, you CONs made it clear under Clinton, this is no big deal if you have nothing to hide. Hyporcites!! You’re all SOO FUNNNNYYY!!!

“In this case, I recognize the importance of Congress understanding how and why this decision was made,” Bush said. “So I’ll allow members of Congress to interview key members of my staff. Comment by Jake — March 20, 2007 @ 6:11 pm

Yeah, sure…. You’re the same CONs that wanted unlimited access to Clinton’s staff, so much so you *settled* this with a supreme court case – did you not?

“In the past 24 hours, the Justice Department has provided more than 3,000 pages … including those reflecting direct communication with White House staff,” Bush said in an evening press conference Tuesday, calling the move “unprecedented.” Comment by Jake — March 20, 2007 @ 6:11 pm

Unprecedented? BAHAHA, yeah, if you had your head shoved up your *ss under the Clinton administration, due to Clinton Derangement Syndrome!

What’s *unprecedented*, is a President so bent on shredding the constitution and American values! You *nazi* enablers are a hoot! Especially you *old-timers*! Talk about a bunch of checked out clueless nitwits! You’re just *dumb* old man!

  129. ValiantVenusGrewFromUranus says:

BTW Jake, I hate to inform you of this. But you sound even more like a 12 year old *girl* than Valiant Venus does. So it’s hard to imagine you’re a 75 year old anything, except in *dog* years. But since you *lie* with dogs, and tend to act like one – why wouldn’t that be the case? Right grandpa?

  130. Jake says:

For the record, I did not bring up Clinton this time (also, a Special Prosecutor looking into Clinton’s misdeed is CONSTITUTIONALLY different than Congress doing so).

  131. rocks911 says:

    Jake,

I respect intellect regardless of age. I don’t respect you.

  132. alp3 says:

    I have a question, Jake.

Why wouldn’t they want to be under oath?
It’s not going to change their story, is it? I mean, they’re going to
tell the truth anyway? Right, Jake? That’s what’s going to happen whether
under oath, or not, isn’t it? They should be strong in their stance against
the terrorists, both domestic and foreign, in these perilous times.
These are righteous patriots we are talking about here, Jake! Not no d*mn commie librals!
They should proceed with confidence! And show the nay-sayers how to
govern a nation with righteousness! Not cowardliness! What are they? Democrats!.

    Jake?

Why all the worry? A true patriot should not have to worry about a
silly little oath. A true patriot will stand strong to uphold the laws and
the will of his nation! Why let a pesky little triviality like being under
oath impede their path to this most righteous victory for this one nation
under god? I’m not worried. Why should they be? They, after all, they have been doing the right thing all along… protecting this great nation from it’s enemies. They have absolutely nothing to hide.

    Let’s proceed. Shall we?

Actually, I rebuked your entire life today…every facet of it. You won’t even be privileged to reincarnate as a human. The Court of Yamaraja is most severe with cases like yours. Back to the slime molds for you.

I still don’t see any reply from you regarding where in the Constitution the President has immunity!!!!

I have showed you where my proof is in the Constitution, surely you can provide yours if you are so confidant in your stance!!!

Provide the line(s) in the Constitution as I have or STFU!

Ah, so that’s how you’re *weaseling* out of this. Cowards like you always try to find a *trick* or *loophole* to avoid accountability and responsibility. You must have made a *fine* middle manager, considering what a useless moron you are.

And tell me, who exactly testified before the Congressional Committee on Whitewater again?

So then you’re for the appointment of a Special Prosecutor? After all, this certainly is more of a *crime* than losing money on a land deal *ever* was. You do realize it was *Congress* that permitted that special prosecutor to have this *privilege*, right dum bass?

Or are you going to pull out the *mantra* of *this-is-different*, the way you GOP hypocrites always do?

You little useless twits are always good for a laugh – that’s for sure! Twist in the wind old timer, your boys are going *down*!

  137. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

How about Karl Rove just answer the question… traitor Rove didn’t even recoginize that the reporter was doing his job… asking the tough questions.

Boy Bush and his girlfriend Rove are becoming quite testy lately… they must be afraid that their secrets will be exposed.

  138. Wretched Refuse says:

Actually I think that Bush’s “all in” today, just put Rove’s job in jeopardy.
They tried to let the weekend quiet things down, and it didin’t. Now Bush is taking an even more constipated position and that puts Rove in the hot seat big time. Ergo, Bush already felt he lost Gonzo, and now he feels now that he will take the final stand of Constitutional crisis over Turdblossom.
How lovely for them. “Johnny, what parting gifts do they get…”

  139. Raymond Funamoto says:

WHY DON’T YOU GO BEFORE CONGRESS AND SPILL YA FAT-GUTS OUT UNDER OATH, YA FOUR-EYED FAT-F*CK Rove, YA TRAITOROUS CREEP AND STINKING HEAP OF ROTTING GARBAGE AND PUSTULENT VOMIT? OR ARE YA SCARED OF WHAT THEY’LL DO TO YA IN RETALIATION—-CHIMPya AND HIS GOONS OR YA PRISON “MATES” THAT ARE ITCHIN’ TO “MAKE YA SQUEAL LIKE THE FAT FAGGOT PIG YA ARE!!!!! HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!!!

Umm, you already are part of that regime Flaco, just look around and read. Warrantless wiretaps, reading of your mail, the loss of habeas corpus, the unitary executive that abrogates the constitution.

There is nothing left for the left to take away ding dong. Use your head for once.

  141. Zep Tepi says:

Once you tell me you’ve done that, let me know if you still don’t understand the Constitutional issues. Coment by Jake

Jake, in your ‘mythical battle’ against ‘liberals’ you seem to fail to understand that YOU are part of problem of the removing the separation of powers and creating a tyranny in your media induced zeal.

You have not built a secure homeland you have built a prison.

Why can’t you, Flaco, Patrick 1 and Firehead comprehend how you have been duped into doing what you accuse the ‘left’ of?

  142. Gregor Samsa says:

  143. chuckles says:

It would be so nice to see a long drawn out impeachment process. DW has the brain of a pea and i thought Rove was a bit smarter. Judging from the e-mails it looks like they have reached the status of “Dumb and Dumber” It will be so nice to watch. I have the Mexican packing by Friday.

  146. Qwerty says:

Excuse me, Jake, Rove and Bush are NOT PRIVATE CITIZENS. They are public officials making decisions ON BEHALF OF THE COUNTRY and thus ANSWERABLE to the People/Congress for ANY potential illegal and unlawful *GOVERNMENT DECISIONS*!!!!!! The suspicious political firing of Federal Prosecutors IS a decision that affects the country and everyone involved is answerable!!!! If Bush is f*cking Karl, that is a private decision, if Bush is doing something to public servants in his capacity as POTUS, then he is ANSWERABLE.

  147. airborne paratrooper says:

Karl Rove is a total and utter, cowardly moron. Join the military tough guy, prove your worth if you think committing our soldiers to wars, or think you know anything about honor, bravery, or real-world-combat. Go fight the war then, give your blood, your sweat, your suffering — impose it upon your own family. And then, we will see what it is you really believe in…
