Boehner’s 60 Days On Iraq Are Up
On January 23, 2007, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said on CNN that he supported benchmarks for Iraqis and a timeline of “60 to 90 days” for the escalation to work:
KOPPEL: How long can you and your membership give the president and give the Iraqi military, before you say, you know what, you’re not doing your job?
BOEHNER: I think it will be rather clear in the next 60 to 90 days as to whether this plan is going to work. And, again, that’s why we need to have close oversight, so that we just don’t look up 60 or 90 days from now and realize that — that this plan is not working. We need to know, as we — as we’re — we move through these benchmarks, that the Iraqis are doing what they have to do.
Time’s up.
Fifty-nine days later, the escalation isn’t working. A senior Bush administration official acknowledged recently to the Washington Post that “right now there is no trend” showing the escalation is working. While sectarian attacks in Baghdad are down, “deaths of Iraqi civilians and U.S. troops have increased outside the capital”:
If violence is down in Baghdad, analysts said, it is likely because the Shiite militias operating there are waiting out the buildup in U.S. troops, nearly all of whom are being deployed in the capital. At the same time, Sunni insurgents have escalated their operations elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Boehner is leading opposition to the House Iraq plan (which imposes strict benchmarks on the Iraqi government) claiming it will lead to “micromanag[ing] the war on terror, undermining our generals on the ground and slowly choking off resources for our troops.”
How many more periods of “60 to 90 days” before Boehner admits the Iraq strategy is failing?

Now the debate is about the best strategies in Iraq and how to expand our stay in Iraq. Honestly, I have still not heard even a whisper from TP or anyone here that you are upset the Dems lied during their campaigns. They campaigned hard and got elected with an anti Iraq war message. They said they needed to get elected so they could bring our troops home. Now we are only a few months into their leadership and they do a 180. It started with non binding resolutions which made be start to wonder if they weren’t serious about Iraq. Then they proved they were serious about Iraq but not in the way they promised. They did a 180 and voted yes to all the money Bush asked for. They voted yes to extend the war. The biggest champion of expanding the war was none other then Pelosi herself who worked hard to drum up support from fellow Dems.
The icing on the cake is watching Hillary and Obama now campaign for president with a pro Iraq war message. Hillary is now saying she will keep at least 75,000 US troops in Iraq to defend the Oil fields and look out for Isreals interests. She also has said she will keep them there indefinetly. Obama isn’t much different saying it would harm American interests to leave. He even now says we need to focus on winning in Iraq.
Is this just a party line thing? Are you folks now pro Iraq war because the Dems decided to be? Do you support the Dems still? Most of you said any American supporting a canidate that didn’t want to end this war were wrong during the campaign. Since all the Dems leaders now support extending the war, do you now not support them? Did their little trick of bringing up nonbinding resolutions work to keep your support even though they voted for the war in all the important binding bills?

The Pakistani ISI spy agency now has trucks they can drive down the street and listen to every single phone call going on in that block. Like the surveillance truck used by the Fingerman in “V for Vendetta”.
If they have these trucks, you can bet the FBI is driving one down your street. Maybe thats why the FBI wanted warrantless wiretaps.
Pakistan got all this hardware to go after Osama and his bunch, but mostly they use it to catch political dissidents, which then disappear.

I’ll add that while you could make a case that the current Democratic leadership supports or at least condones the war, there are certainly some Democrats for which this isn’t true. The Woolsey Amendment is a serious attempt to shut down the war, and there are a few Presidential candidates (Kucinich, Gravel, and Sharpton who may or may not run) who are solidly against the war.
On the Republican side, about the only one to oppose the war is Ron Paul.

Anyone waiting on this stupid benchmark is an idiot. It was a stalling tactic to get people to stop asking questions. They’ll come up with another one pretty soon. We’ve got to stop asking them to tell us when they’ll finally win and just say “Pull us out.” Either we trust them to fight the war the way they want or we stop the war. No middle ground. That was tried in Vietnam with tragic, disasterous results.
There is a serious possibility that we’ll micromanage the war to death and the supply problems the troops are having now will get worse. Bush has already proven he can’t handle the war. Tell him to stop. None of this cut off the funds crap which will only hurt the troops or give Bush a deadline when he’s already missed half a dozen he already set for himself. It’s over. People just haven’t realized it. The only thing worse than losing a war is refusing to believe it.

The Dems are in charge of congress now. If they truly wanted this war to end, they could have done it already very very easily. When Bush went to Pelosi and asked her to get the Dems to vote yes to the new Iraq spending bill, they could have ended this war. Pelosi, if she truly was against this war, could have told the president no. They could have all voted no to the money. This move would have killed the war very quickly. This was like T-Ball. Bush set them up a easily hittable ball and somehow the Dems wiffed. The only imaginable reason they choose to not end the war was for 1 of 2 reasons.
1) They actually support the war and see value in our continued deployment in Iraq.
or
2) They are truly against the war but calculated voting yes was best politically.
In my world, I hope it was reason 1. If they choose to support a war they thought was illegal and wrong for political gain, they are then evil. It would be like someone against abortains because they thought it was murder still supporting abortions. If you think the Iraq war is illegal, then it equates to murdering US soldiers. If you then vote yes to money to support and illegal act that is murdering US troops, you should go to jail.

TEHRAN — Four big oil companies purchased the tender documents of 17 oil blocks in Iran, said National Iranian Oil Company’s (NIOC) exploration manager here on Friday.
Of over 30 domestic and foreign bidders, four oil companies bought the documents, Hossein Roshandel told the Mehr News Agency (MNA).
He declined to directly name the purchasers, however adding the Anglo-Dutch Shell, France’s Total, Brazil’s Petrobras and Malaysia’s Petronas, Spain’s Repsol, and Austria’s OMV were among the bidders.
The blocks’ names were not disclosed, either.
The 17 blocks were introduced to international oil companies in a two-day conference in Vienna early Feb., of which 5 are offshore and 12 are onshore.
The blocks are scattered in 9 provinces in a 129,000km area.
The whole blocks attract investments worth at least €46 million.

If they voted no instead of yes, we would need to start pulling out within months because we wouldn’t have the money to continue. How you can defend them extending the war is beyond me. These same Democrats recently also voted overwhelmingly a vote of no confidence for our troops who are giving their all for this war against terror.

It is time. It is time for all of us in the country to stand up and do something. I for one will not sit around any longer listening to the Liberals in Washington continue to use their political motives to attempt to tear down our current leader simply because he is a member of their opposing party. This tactic is detrimental to our very well being as nation that we have all grownup with and were taught to respect. Now is the time to do something about this continuing attempt to bring our country to our knees to the rest of the world.
Just in recent days the Democratic congress passed a bill that clearly had political maneuver that attempted to make their agenda come closer to completion. That agenda is to bring the United Sates of America into a communist state of being. Obviously the Democrats want total control so that they may manipulate all the people all the time so they may keep total control of the people.
The bill the Democrats passed lets the enemy know exactly the time we would leave Iraq. If we had done this is WW 2 “ it would be like telling Hitler hey Adolph we are going to be out of here on September 8th 1944 and we will be out of your hair. Do any of us really think this would have been a smart idea?
These same Democrats recently also voted overwhelmingly a vote of no confidence for our troops who are giving their all for this war against terror.
These same Democrats want all methods halted for gathering information that can stop terror attacks from happening, that are currently being used by our Federal Government to stop those terror attacks from happening. These same Democrats want us to believe that our currently leader is nothing but an ignorant fool. They continue to do this through the Liberal Media and Hollywood every day.
We are very close in becoming a nation on the verge of Civil war. This stupidity the Liberals continue to produce through their pretend legislation and rhetoric through the Hollywood elite and the Liberal Bias media has to be stopped. It is a proven fact if you repeat something over and over some have a tendency to believe what they hear.
This is very dangerous for our country.
