“Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said today that his wife’s cancer has returned and is no longer curable, but is treatable. But he said he will continue his campaign. ‘We are very optimistic about this,’ he said. Edwards said Elizabeth Edwards’ cancer is ‘confined in bone, which is a good thing.’”

Sad news.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:42 pmAgain, let me reiterate what I said on an earlier thread. A person who would express hope that a serious illness experienced by an opponent’s wife does not improve is truly among the lowest of the low…right down there with someone who would make jokes about rape.
Trolls, let’s try to be mature, on this thread at least. Kthx.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:44 pmOur guys march on in the daylight while theirs skulk in the shadows.

March 22nd, 2007 at 12:45 pmThis is horrible news and I hope the entire country prays for Elizabeth and his entire family.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:47 pmTripMaster Monkey:
How do you know that was the real firebrand on the other thread? TP does not seem to enforce the prohibition against impersonating people here.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:47 pmI’ve been there and it’s tough. I wish her every personal success.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:48 pmWhat does that mean “not curable but treatable”?
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:48 pmAll our thoughts are with her and their family.
The troll degenerates should be ashamed of themselves.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:51 pmReichstag here are so coy being P.C. under the microscope. Funny on HuPo the death wishes for Elizabeth Edwards and hate spewed by the right is so predictable.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:51 pmPLEASE, editors. Check the facts, not hearsay, before you post on ThinkProgress. Your earlier post from Politico was wrong.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:51 pm#7- How long?
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:52 pmWhat does that mean “not curable but treatable
Comment by mark my words
Republicans? True you can curtail their destructive nature but there is no cure.
Also, bone cancer is treatable, not curable.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:52 pmJake sez:
What makes you think it makes any difference?
While personally, I’m of the opinion that it was (do some research…it’s his style), in the final analysis, it’s irrelevant what name is attached to the comment.
A troll by any name is still a troll, Jake. It doesn’t matter if a troll namejacks you, or me, or firehead. They’re still a troll, and the proof is in the pudding.
Go back and read firehead’s earlier statement and tell me that that isn’t the words of a troll, namejacker or not.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:53 pmmy wife, too, has been battling breast cancer that has spread to her bones for 4.5 years now. not a plea for sympathy, just to let you know where i’m coming from. “not curable but treatable” in my wife’s case, means they can pump her full of chemo for the rest of her life to retard the spread of the cancerous cells, but the cancer is not “hormone receptive” meaning taxol and the other wonder drugs will not wipe it out. sad news for the edwards’. i voted for john in the 04 wisconsin primary. i feel their pain. would be easier to take w/o jake, patrick1, roger_roger and firehead’s lugubriousness. now, ITMFA (but impeach cheney first)
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:07 pmWishing you well,Elizabeth.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:09 pmPoor woman. I wish her well and hope the doctors are able to give her treatment that makes sure she has as good a life as possible.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:09 pmHaving lost my Mom to cancer (Multiple Myloma) 8 years ago, I know exactly what the Edwards family is going through.
My best wishes and hopes for Elizabeth and family
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:11 pm“Treatable, not curable” usually means just that. It’s incurable but can be slowed down or made less painful and disruptive. It will depend entirely on the mutations of the cancer. The reference to “in bone” being good may mean mutations may take longer. To anyone who has lost someone to cancer, as I did my father, one knows it’s living one week at a time. And the people who work in oncology are among the most amazing, life-affirming people I have ever met. God bless them.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:12 pmAll my prayers and best wishes for the Edwards family.
#2, on HotAir (which I frequent); 99.9% of the posts have all been expressing sadness and well-wishes for the Edwardses.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:27 pmI heard the announcement on the radio. She sounds like a very strong woman. I wish her the best of luck in fighting this thing.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:29 pmworking in a cancer clinic(actually, surprisingly close to the Edwards campaign)i know there are some amazing treatments out there. May Elizabeth find the one that makes her life as enjoyable and pain-free as possible.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:30 pmDale sez:
There’s been (at least) 999 posts expressing sadness and well-wishes for the Edwardses? Already?
(Because that’s what you’re claiming…)
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:32 pmHey TripMaster Monkey dude,
Git off ur high horse and take ur own advice.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:37 pmwhiteyfresh sez:
Hey whiteyfresh…have you ever heard of dichloroacetate (DCA)?
I’d be keen to get an industry perspective on its possible use as a cancer cure.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:37 pmAw, c’mon, TMM, do I have to spell it out? In the thread on HotAir announcing the suspension, I haven’t seen any posts that cheer this news. Only only one or two posters have even tried to associate it with any type of political spin; they’re currently being slapped down about that.
I don’t agree with Edwards about anything, but this is very sad news. There are *some* things more important that politics… the health of a loved one being the most important. Quit trying to twist this into something political.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:40 pmFlaco sez:
I thought I heard something…
…never mind.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:43 pmDale sez:
Um, quit trying to twist my words, jackass. I’m not the one that made the ludicrous claim that there were a minimum of 999 comments on HotAir wishing John & Elizabeth well.
I’m sure everyone appreciates your well-wishing, Dale, but the hyperbole is unnecessary, and your accusation that I’m trying to twist this into something political is just plain repellent. Knock it off.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:55 pmSh*tmaster Flunkey sez:

I thought I heard something…

March 22nd, 2007 at 1:59 pmUh, TMM, in comment 18 I said:
not 999. But if you really wanna continue your pettiness, go for it. I’m outta this thread.
March 22nd, 2007 at 2:04 pmDale sez:
Indeed. Are you seriously making the claim that a particular post could only fractionally wish the Edwards family well?
Because unless you are, it would take a minimum of 999 well-wishing posts to one ill-wishing post to make the percentage you describe.
It’s not my fault you’re bad at math.
March 22nd, 2007 at 2:08 pmToo bad. So sad. Who cares.
March 22nd, 2007 at 3:08 pmnot 999. But if you really wanna continue your pettiness, go for it. I’m outta this thread. Comment by Dale — March 22, 2007 @ 2:04 pm
So you fabricated a number to make yourself look better. Wow, a CON stretching the *truth* - how SHOCKING! Now who’s being petty? The person that stretched the truth, and got caught, or the one that pointed out you stretched the truth?
Stop being petty Dale, just admit you *lied* and *fabricated* a number to make yourself look better. That would be *honesty*, a trait most CONS are devoid of. That’s why you don’t recognize it - Mr. Tolerance Your *ss indeed. You misspelled your website though, it should be MrIntollerantLying*sshole.
March 22nd, 2007 at 3:46 pmToo bad. So sad. Who cares.
Comment by firehead — March 22, 2007 @ 3:08 pm
So there you go Dale, is that your .01%? I don’t think so.
March 22nd, 2007 at 3:46 pmWe’ll keep on, keeping it on. Elizabeth is a real trooper and has a lot of grace, class and courage.
March 22nd, 2007 at 4:41 pmSad news.
FYI to the writer… cancer isn’t curable.
March 22nd, 2007 at 8:25 pmINCURABLE BUT TREATABLE—–WHAT A TRAGEDY!!!!! THIS IS TANTAMOUNT TO A SLOW, INEXORABLE DEATH SENTENCE BUT I PERSONALLY HOPE FOR A MIRACLE AND THAT Elizabeth IS CURED OF THIS DISEASE AND THAT DISEASE FLUNG UPON THE FEMALE MEMBERS OF The Bush/Cheney Crime Families!!!!! IF ANYBODY ON EARTH EVER DESERVED IT, THEY CERTAINLY DO!!!!! A GEAS-CURSE UPON The Bushes and The Cheneys, SO MOTE IT BE!!!!!
March 22nd, 2007 at 10:00 pmMy mother was diagnosed last month with the same disease. The cancer metastisized to her bones. She has had 2 surgeries, several biopsies, and numerous scans. THe doctors seem VERY optimistic and one even said that they have enough types of chemo that can take care of her for the rest of her natural life. IT is amazing at how far they come with such outstanding treatments that can save lives. My mom is doing very well with a positive attitude! Keep the faith and Pray each day for these individuals that have been diagnosed with this disease.
March 23rd, 2007 at 11:41 amI TOO HAVE BONE CANCER THAT WAS A METS FROM BREAST CANCER. I HAVE HAD A DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A SUPPORT GROUP OF WOMEN WITH THE SAME, I AM SURE NOW THAT ELIZABETH EDWARDS HAS THE SAME , THERE SHOULD BE MORE INFO ON THE DISEASE AS WELL AS SUPPORT GROUPS. I AM ONLY 46 AND HAVE A 7 AND 11 YEAR OLD. I AM DOING WELL, HAVE STRENGTH THAT ONLY THE LORD IN HEAVEN CAN GIVE. BEST WISHES TOO ALL OTHERE WOMEN WHO SUFFER WITH THIS DISEASE.
