“John Edwards is suspending his campaign for President, and may drop out completely, because his wife has suffered a recurrence of the cancer that sickened her in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, an Edwards friend told The Politico.”
UPDATE: CNN reports that the Edwards campaign says this report isn’t true, but doesn’t specify which elements aren’t true.
Good luck and God’s speed…
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:02 pmBye Bye Breck Girl.
Hope your wife gets better. NOT.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:02 pmThat’s too bad. I’m a fan of Edwards and was looking forward to him being in the primary. However, family must ALWAYS come first and my thoughts and best wishes are with him and his family. His family has suffered enough tragedy. I hope she makes a full recovery.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:03 pmThat sucks, the best candidate is out? Uuuugh now what we have to deal with Corporate shill Hillary. America votes for idiots.

More compassionate conservative. Thy name is hypocrite.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:04 pm#2 is demonstrating the compassionate conservatism that all “christians” in the Republic Party are so well known for possessing and displaying.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:04 pmThat sucks. Sucks for all of us and especially sucks for Elizabeth. God speed.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:04 pm#2 Nice Christian attitude NOT!
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:07 pmTP, can you ban firehead? That had to be the most inhuman, inhumane, horrible thing that I have ever read on this blog, and that’s saying something. What kind of monster is he/she? If firehead is representative of the Repugs we are in very, very serious trouble in this country.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:08 pmThat’s not nice, firehead. More appropriate would be prayers for his wife and their entire family.

What a hateful thing to say. May all you do be returned threefold.

Firehead is not representative of any “conservative Christian” I know.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:10 pm#9 CarolSoprano
And of course, this is after the right tied itself in a knot over liberal commenters on this site and others making comments regretting that the suicide bomber targeting Cheney in Afghanistan did not succeed. Firehead, of course, is just a troll, but I’m waiting to see how conservative blogs and their commenters react. I’m hoping for a similar uproar if there are any comments parallel to that of firehead on the conservative blogs.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:13 pmJake, I disagree whole-heartedly with you. I personally know a great many “conservative Christians” that are the most hateful, nasty, rude and uncompassionate people – Jesus is truly weeping.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:13 pmWell, if he were a Republican, a Newt man of integrity, he would –divorce her. See there are some small differences between the parties.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:16 pmLet’s try not to pay any attention to firehead’s inflammatory remarks in post #2. A person who would express hope that a serious illness experienced by an opponent’s wife does not improve is truly among the lowest of the low…right down there with someone who would make jokes about rape.
Get well soon, Elizabeth.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:17 pmFIREHEAT I WORK WITH CANCER PATIENTS EVERY DAY. i WOULD SPIT ON YOU IF YOU GOT CANCER AND CAME IN FOR TREATMENT. i SUPPOSE YOU WOULDN’T COME IN,THOUGH; YOU WOULD JUST GET THE GODBOY BUSHIE TO BLESS YOU AND MAKE IT BETTER? YOU ARE A LOWLY MAGGOT ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH, YOU STEAMING PILE OF MONKEYSH–!!!!!!!!!!
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:19 pmBad luck man, hope his wife gets well.

March 22nd, 2007 at 12:20 pmFirehead represents nothing Christian, and shame on you who suggested otherwise. Here’s a conservative Christian praying for Elizabeth Edwards and her entire family.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:21 pmGood luck to John Edwards and his wife. He is a candidate I would have seriously considered not above Obama, but ahead of Clinton. Hmmm…

I’ll second that. There is simply no excuse for such behavior.

How totally insensitive. But the fact that it’s coming from you, it’s unfortunately typical. May the stings of a thousand bees infest your backside for a thousand days, jerk.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:24 pmTM Monkey: okay, i feel better now. If you’ve ever seen a cancer patient go through hell with chemo and treatment, the stress and pain it inflicts not only on the patient, but the family, friends, and EVERYONE around you, and then to have patients die after going through that? I have seen this happen dozens of times, if not hundreds since i started here. It makes me think of the war in Iraq:those who have no idea what war is like, the brutality, the killing, the second guessing, the pain, the agony of losing some sort of control over your life;these are the ones praising bush and his war and saying such STUPID things about cancer.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:25 pm#22- Don’t be too hard on Fireant. I understand he and his girlfriend’s Jerk and Patsy are having a little difficulty in the bedroom, these days.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:27 pmCAMPAIGN GOES ON
Thats all i needed to hear. You and your family are in my prayers.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:30 pmCarolSoprano:
Jesus said the world will know if you are Christian by our love for one another. We’ll have to agree to disagree whether you know any conservative CHRISTIANS who are hateful, nasty, rude and uncompassionate. See you later.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:32 pmConsidering there is also a fake Jake lurking around these parts, I would not discount that possibility as well.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:33 pmPlease send Blessings and good thought’s to the Edward’s family..Blessings all..

Actually, whiteyfresh, my mother is a cancer survivor, and my wife has an inoperable brain tumor, for which she is currently being treated (chemo). I’m more familiar than I care to be with the subject.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:35 pmIrony, thy name is thinkprogress.
When Cheney goes to the hospital, it’s all “let’s hope it’s the BIG ONE.”
When a Democratic candidate’s wife’s cancer relapses, which is usually not as immediate a threat to life and limb as heart problems, it’s “blame the Repugnicans” for giving us a taste of our own medicine.
I’m not defending some of the obviously repugnant comments posted here earlier, and I genuinely wish Edwards’ wife successful treatment.
Just pointing out a bit of irony.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:39 pmBetty:
The flaw in your argument is that Elizabeth Edwards is not one of the highest of the criminal neocon scum that have hijacked this country and are currently grinding it to powder under the heels of their jackboots.
Otherwise, your point is solid.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:42 pmMy prayers go out to you TM Monkey, if that means anything to you.
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:43 pmi try to say civil here, and actually enjoy talking to jake, but sometimes idiot’s sheer stupidity just blows me away!(i.e. FARTYhead)
I like this Edwards – family / wife 1st!
March 22nd, 2007 at 12:44 pmCool
While Fireant, Jerk and Patsy may like to have one think they are patriotic Americans and fine, upstanding Christians, they are in league with the evil, dark side of humanity called: Dick Cheney’s blood and food farm for feeding the ignorant masses. They’re actually in line for promotions and pay raises. Right, boys?

Translation for this “agree to disagree”, means the CON is incapable of facing “facts”, so he denies that you possess them and you don’t, and refuses to further entertain the subject. This is the biggest “cop-out” and “weasel-word” and “wimpy-response” that the impotent right can give, but that’s all they’ve got… You can agree to disagree all you want Jake, about anything, it doesn’t change the FACTS that you’re WRONG – dum bass. It just proves you’re an insecure twit that won’t face the truth, just like the rest of your “LOST BOYS”.
March 22nd, 2007 at 1:41 pmTP- Ban firehead now.
