“I will veto it if it comes to my desk,” Bush said, adding that he thinks the legislation has “no chance of becoming law.”

    Bush has no choice but to get that money as the Saudi’s told Cheney. No more rubber stamp 109th Congress and all the crimes coming to light Bush has to break the law again. Bush uses the soldiers as his reason for the money yet he cut funding to our troops. If you don’t believe me look at Walter Reed and other military hospitals that care for our injured troops who are living with mice/roaches/mold and maggots in their wounds. Troops don’t have the supplies they need and never have. The Iraq military supports Al Sadr and all those weapons stolen by the terrorist are better equipped then US troops. Bush said things are going good while the UN Secretary visits Iraq when a bomb goes off 50 feet from the US Secretary. Now Bush will have no choice but to change the law and take the money he needs for pay offs or else he and Cheney are in trouble.

As important as the bill is, it also plays right into Dick & George’s plan. Now when the inevitable arrives, it will all be the fault of those damn defeatofascists in Congress. If it hadn’t been for that damn bill, we would have had a glorious victory.

    If Democrats are thinking of stopping the war..they should go and examine the authorization they gave to Bush based on Neocons hyping the claims of Saddam’s WMD,and the easy win they were going to get in Iraq.

    Democrats should invesitgate these claims that were made before the war,where did they start and who was behind them.

    Now Democcrats gave Bush something he was waiting for….using ‘SUPPORTING THE TROOPS’ against them…the last card left that Bush has in this war in Iraq . Bush will use it now against Democrats repeatedly.

    You are absolutely right. It would only take one Senator to filibuster against funding the warand 41 abstentions to sustain the filibuster. There are 51 Democrat Senators and most of them claim to be against the war so it should not be against the bounds of reason to expect at least one of them to filibuster agsint the funding. Then the congress can come up with a bill to bring the troops home as rapidly and as safely as possible. This is assuming that these Democrats have the courage of their convictions.

    Good…let him veto it. At least that would be the first time Bush ISN’T a total, sniveling coward that has to hide behind Cheney and Rove and his press conferences. Makes threats on TV in hopes of intimidating people so HE doesn’t have to do anything is cowardice. So is passing bills while making signing statements because he’s too afraid to tell the world what he is really up to.

    Let the Dems send this resolution to him and let Bush veto it. He’ll see how far he gets without any money for his war plans. Or better yet, we’ll see how far he gets when Cheney realizes Haliburton won’t be getting more funding.

    Jake, Mission Accomplished! The war has long been over in Iraq. That’s why all the fuss by the WH about calling what’s been happening a civil war –a civil war ain’t America’s fight! Iraq has a new government and so it’s time to redeploy. The only reason for staying now is to meddle in Iraqi affairs. Congress has limited the terms of military engagement in the past and has the right to do so. Bush can veto, but then he doesn’t get the money, does he? And then he’s the one not supporting the troops. And redeploy is not “cut & run”; far more troops are needed in Afghanistan which is the real battlefield in the War on Terror. If Bush won’t redeploy, it’s time to fire the little MacArthur wannabe.

    AWOL = Absent Without Leave. Bush was absent on two separate occasions. Once for a period of 6 months in 1972 and once for a period of almost 3 months in 1973 - where was he? Did he get official leave? Or just another free pass because of who he is? The answer to that seems self-evident.

    Then there’s no way Bush is leaving office before his term is up. The Dems haven’t got a prayer of getting impeachment going in the time remaining, much less getting Bush out of his chair. Congress modifying the Military Authorization is the only way to contain the damage now. Funding magic tricks are only going to backfire on them when Bush says “Well, those bad nasty Dems cut our supply lines” and you know what? He’ll be right. The only way to do it is how the Dems are doing it. Come up with deadlines to show progress, and if progress isn’t made, bring our boys home. Tell Bush to clean up the yard or we’ll take his toys away. Sure he’ll veto the first bill, which will show everyone exactly where he stands and insult the authority of Congress on the matter. That, in turn will shake some more of his Republican backers out of the tree to join Pelosi’s gang. Then Pelosi might have the 2/3 she needs to shut his a** up. That’s the only way it’s going to work in the time remaining unless someone puts a couple of bullets in Bush and Cheney and makes Pelosi president.
