With a 218-212 vote, the House passed the U.S. Troops Readiness, Veterans’ Health and Iraq Accountability Act, which calls for the redeployment of troops out of Iraq by 2008.
What’s this Troops Readiness stuff? We go with the army we got, not the one we want. And Veteran’s Health? come on! We don’t care what happens to the soldiers after they get shot. Unless they can heal and then get redeployed, they are useless to us. This whole thing is a crock!
There is no ground or position the Republicans can take on this falsely asserting it hamstrings the Generals or even better yet ‘hurts the troops’ when they forced withdrawal and limited funding for Bosnia and their god Reagen cut and run from Beureit. … further, this states very clearly how we can proceed as a nation.
Sen. Dodd: … “But there is a right way to do this and a wrong way to do this. It’s clear the people who perpetrated these horrendous crimes against our country and our people have no moral compass and deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But in taking away their legal rights, the rights first codified in our country’s Constitution, we’re taking away our own moral compass, as well.
So much for the Greedy ‘Ol Parasites being the party of morality. Unless you count the Taliban Fundy approach to Fear Induction and Liberty Removal as being somehow “moral”.
A veto won’t be necessary. Democrats won’t get the 50 they need in the House. WHY – because they are cowards. They don’t have the balls to stand up for what they beleive in.
Of course, Bush will veto…if this bill becomes law. We need to ditch all the Representatives from both parties who won’t cut off funding and end this war. And we need Representative who will impeach. This bloody war must end!
A wasn’t. ReichWingNuts and ChristoFascists got their way through fear and lying. WHY – because they are cowards. They don’t have the balls to stand up for the truth. They only know how to line their own greedy pockets at the expense of others.

Useta be that we could actually define the enemy and the mission, too. BTW, what sacrifices have YOU made for duhbya’s little adventure? Inquiring minds want to know.
Duhbya will probably veto this bill, but that puts his (and the other Repukes’) name on the war. No way can they say that the Dems kept us in the quagmire. (God knows they’ll try. But the public, aside from the brainwashed 30%, won’t buy it.)
Too bad there will be a lot of dyin’ between now and the time when duhbya and the gang are brought to account.
North Africa never attacked us either, yet FDR made that the central front after Pearl Harbor. Think outside of the box there, dude. If the terrorists (are THEY the enemy?!) know we are leaving on a date certain, why wouldn’t they just lay low until we leave?
There are no “magic words” are needed to declare war — the AUMF was sufficient — you think the ROBERTS Supreme Court is going to side with anti-war protesters on that? As long as you answer my questions, in a civil manner, I will always return the same courtesy.

The Senate will not pass this Bill and if and that is a huge IF passes it, the President will veto it.
The sad thing is that Pelosi allowed millions, upon millions, upon millions in pork money to buy the vote of Democrats that where against this bill.
the pork money surmounts to one of the highest spending bills in the history of America….

If the Prez says he is vetoing the bill because of pork I don’t think that a)most people won’t care about the pork when they hear the word troops and b)the Dems will use that against him so quickly after he has signed some of the most prok-laden bills ever.

Then Dumbya will run out of funding and have to bring the troops home anyway! Plus we’ll get to watch him explain how he supported the troops by vetoing the bill that would have ensured they were properly equipped, trained and cared for.

Gee Jake you’re f’ing brilliant – Here’s a brain teaser for ya – — if there were any important international terrorist types in Iraq, wouldn’t they have left and started laying low when they saw our big bulky ineffective invasion force headed their way???? Yeah, they prolly did, which is how we’ve ended up disgracing ourselves by hanging around over there getting our guys’ legs blown off killing grandmas and cab drivers for 4 years. If they were smart, and odds are they are, they’d be finding quiet ways to take advantage of our huge diversion, and make some headway in other areas – like recruiting dummies to join their cause, and plotting something else, somewhere else, at a time far removed – and I don’t doubt they’re doing just that, right now.
Comparing anything about this Iraq fiasco to anything about WWII situates you in the same class as morons who deny the holocaust. Not that you had any credibility in the first place. Say some of that stuff in a VFW hall somewhere, though, and I’m sure some Vets will be happy to show you just how much respect they’ve got for ya.

So, military spending is never larded with constituent pork? C’mon, Bob. Defense spending is so fungible because there’s such atrocious military bookkeeping. As Karl Sagan would have opined, “There are billions and billions” of untracked dollars floating around the defense department’s procurement sysytem. Clean that up before lecturing to us about “no pork.”
Think outside of the box there, dude. If the terrorists (are THEY the enemy?!) know we are leaving on a date certain, why wouldn’t they just lay low until we leave?
Comment by Jake — March 23, 2007
Jake is flaky. By his reasoning, we cannot ever know if the surge will be successful for the same reason: why can’t they just lie low until we leave? Or make things so hot somewhere else, that we have to pull troops away to deal with the situation?
Democracy is a fluid process – it’s very nature is not static. The Democratic majority in congress is no accident. Their presence reflects the will of the nation. We want an end to the war in Iraq. Bravo to Pelosi and the House for doing what they were elected to do.
Bush and the useful idiots who support him do not represent the nation as the whole. Their views are solidly in the minority. Their talking points are very tired and have lost all effect.
The Iraq war will be an albatross around the GOP’s neck for years to come.
It has to pass the Senate (assuming Lieberman does not defect to the GOP over such a vote) and survive conference committee on any differences before Bush would even have to veto.
Is he doing a knock off of Colbert, with the on notice and dead to me lists? Or is it just a run a the mill righty/nixonian enemy hit list?

If Chimpy wants to appear “unpatriotic”, LET him explain HIS veto to the American people himself. He’s a f*ing coward, so I rather expect he will try to weasel his way around the facts and blame it on someone else.
You do realize this vote we are talking about FULLY FUNDED the President’s request and extends the war in Iraq for another 22 months, right? Several anti-war Democrats voted AGAINST it for that reason. I’ve stated my opposition on other grounds above.

A couple has marital problems. The husband is beating his wife. The Dems have just negotiated a settlement.
Under the settlment the husband can continue beating his wife for 18 months more. The Dems sincerely hope they will be able to resolve their marital problems this way. And the Dems agree to continue to pay for any damage to the husbands’ fist or the wife’s body.
However there is one benchmark. The husband cannot hit his wife with a closed fist to the face. The Dems do understand that such a blow to the face would almost certainly be detrimental to the couple’s success.
If the husband does hit his wife in the face with a closed fist during the next 18 months THEN the Dems will stand united. At that point the husband will be asked to leave the house…maybe.
How about TERRORISTS WHO WANT TO KILL AMERICANS WHERE EVER THEY CAN? Is that “clear enough†of a definition? The mission currently is to kill them before they kill us.

Dumb fu*k, the terrorists love republicans like you for providing them with targets to shoot at and for giving the Muslims a reason to hate Americans, due to all of your Islamo Fascist rhetoric.
You’re right – it has never been done before. Given Bush’s mismanagement of the war up to this point and the disasterous consequences this effort brings to America, I commend Congress for getting more involved.
I’m curious though: on what basis do you form such unwavering faith in George Bush? He’s been a failure his whole life up to this point in time, and you are willing to give him free reign on this? Cummon. He needs to be supervised, like a retarded child….
It has to pass the Senate (assuming Lieberman does not defect to the GOP over such a vote) and survive conference committee on any differences before Bush would even have to veto.
Which sets up the republican candidates for ‘08 to be either for or against George’s Great and Bloody Adventure. In an anti-war mood America, they will lose big time. And then, the incoming Dem president will announce the redeployment, and Jake can go to his grave with the knowledge that there are thousands who preceded him, and that if there is a God in Heaven, they’ll be waiting at the Pearly Gates to remind St.Peter just what he supported with such whole-hearted fervor.
it isn’t about the troops at all, it’s about the cash cow that this war is, it’s about Blackwater and no-bid contracts to fellow fascists that lurk in the shadows. This war as all else from this administration is about profiteering.
The evil fascists are making a boatload of money. The Prince family and all their tentacles want this war to go on forever.
Don’t believe the smoke and mirrors, it’s not about anything apparent.
Conservatives love Pigs Especiall Jake and Kinstle :i really, really like that:fuxtik! and Bush never said anything about other attacks around the world, only ‘fighten ‘em over there so they don’t come here’-raise shoulders, gruntgiggle, and wink’-ugh, his winking makes me feel like i’m gonna puke every time.
#76 – I am sorry, what did Republicans do to the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11? Or did Clinton do something?
The notion that anyone is creating terrorists is sick and very misguided. America is a great country and they should have no reason to hate us. They are just jealous of us and people like you are just self-hating, spoiled Americans who should be forced to live like the Islamic militants you spend hours defending.

America is great. Thank you for discussing the issues in a civil manner and always answering my questions. I will continue doing the same with you.
Bo:
Has there been another attack by terrorists on our shores since 9/11? That’s a big part of my decision, as well as the fact I would not undermine ANY Commander-in-Chief (regardless of party) for battle decisions during wartime. Do you know that noted historian David McCoullough has opined that Gen. Washington would have LOST the Revolutionary War if the media was reporting then like they do now?
They have been shouted down by their GOP “brothers”. If you knew much about American history you would know that Lincoln railed against the Mexican American war. He DEMANDED to know where exactly America was attacked by Mexico. This is something that only one republican has done as far as I know on Iraq and very few democrats.
We all watched these past 6 years as the democrats did not stand up when they had every opportunity to do so. This is why Hillary and many others do not deserve to be president.
The republicans have been even worse, but the democrats went along. The democrats do not have to go after the president alone. They have had every opportunity to put the congressional republicans on the spot yet they have refused to do so.
It really isnt that hard… to bad the democrats have been pussies.
Jake: I think you and I might actually agree on what I said in#84:
Bush never said anything about other attacks around the world, only ‘fighten ‘em over there so they don’t come here’-raise shoulders, gruntgiggle, and wink’-
U.S. House Democrats appear to have the votes to pass a spending measure today that would fund the war in Iraq but set a time-line for getting out. But Cleveland’s Dennis Kucinich refuses to fold.
“It was wrong four years ago to go to war,” he told reporters today as he exited a Democratic caucus meeting. “It’s wrong today to continue the war.”
Kucinich, who wants to become the country’s next president, is in his party’s minority. Democratic leaders say they’ll never win a vote for immediate withdrawal, so the next best thing is to demand an exit within 18 months. (Even that strategy will be vetoed by President Bush if it ever passes the Senate.)
And so Kucinich refuses to compromise, saying, “We have to get out of Iraq, period.”
Not exactly, since Bush has expressed our solidarity with allies who have been attacked since 9/11 — and pledged to re-doubled our will to win — unfortunately, for our allies, they don’t have the Atlantic and Pacific oceans as natural buffers : (
#76 – I am sorry, what did Republicans do to the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11?
The god dam republicans have been sticking the stupid fu*king noses in everybody’s business for decades. You fu*kers have been planting seeds of hatred for years and years. Well, your crop has now blossomed. The terrorists don’t hate America, they hate you fu*kers.
Oh and to answer your question literally:
The republcains haven’t done anything about the terrorists that attacked us on 9/11. No a dam thing. You started by going after them in Afghanistan, but got side tracked with Bush’s revenge war for profit. Losers.
Or did Clinton do something?
Clinton tracked down the bastards that bombed the WTC in 1993. Tracked them down and brought them to justice, but he wasn’t president in September of 2001, so I don’t know what your point is. Oh yea, you people are obsessed with Clinton.
They are just jealous of us and people like you are just self-hating, spoiled Americans who should be forced to live like the Islamic militants you spend hours defending.
You just thank your glowing man in the sky that you aren’t within arms reach of me.
How much money to fight terrorism went to Spain again? The pork in this bill is what will be whittled away and resent to the President. This is a longer term strategy by the Dems. the current bill will pass the senate and put infront of the president and he can decide not to fund the troops by veto. Then it will come back and the fat will be cut and some numbers changed but the removal will still be there and will go to the president where he can decide again to not fund the troops. All the while the clock is ticking on the current funds. Pitty too much was blown on the profiteers.
“They are just jealous of us and people like you are just self-hating, spoiled Americans who should be forced to live like the Islamic militants you spend hours defending.”
Moreover, the term “Declaration of War” is not, in fact, mentioned by the US Constitution. Instead the Constitution says “Congress shall have the power to … declare War, …” without defining the form such declarations will take. Therefore, many have argued congressionally passed authorizations to use military force are “Declarations of War.”
So there is not Constitutionally required form or format and an AUMF can be construed as a Declaration of War, but it is stretching it.
#98 Spudge; The republcains haven’t done anything about the terrorists that attacked us on 9/11. No a dam thing.
I have to disagree. According to Seymour Hersh Bush is funding groups with ties to Al Qaida. And he’s doing it perhaps with stolen money and without congressional knowledge.
The anthrax attacks are most likely “in house”. Jake can you shed some light on the anthrax mailings? Or if I used right wing smear tatic questioning it would sound like…….Jake when did you stop mailing the anthrax and will you start it up again?
If I’m on his ignore list could someone else ask him?
big papa, why are you attacking ggibson for pointing out the truth?
Anytime a Dem WAS in front of a camera, they should have been talking about the illegal war and they didn’t. Anytime they were invited onto Fox, they should have talked about the illegal war, but they didn’t.
They have not stood up and spoke out when it counted. They discounted the Democrats that held the meetings in the well under the Congress. They distanced themselves and didn’t speak up.
And now you are going to attack one of our own for saying so. Come on now. You know he is right and what I just said is right.

They shouldn’t; yet they do – ever wonder why? But in taking away their legal rights, the rights first codified in our country’s Constitution, we’re taking away our own moral compass, as well.

March 23rd, 2007 at 1:57 pmGee Jake you’re f’ing brilliant – Here’s a brain teaser for ya – — if there were any important international terrorist types in Iraq, wouldn’t they have left and started laying low when they saw our big bulky ineffective invasion force headed their way????

March 23rd, 2007 at 2:01 pmDemocracy is a fluid process – it’s very nature is not static. The Democratic majority in congress is no accident. Their presence reflects the will of the nation. We want an end to the war in Iraq. Bravo to Pelosi and the House for doing what they were elected to do.

March 23rd, 2007 at 2:10 pmA poor analogy?…

I’m curious though: on what basis do you form such unwavering faith in George Bush? He’s been a failure his whole life up to this point in time, and you are willing to give him free reign on this? Cummon. He needs to be supervised, like a retarded child….
March 23rd, 2007 at 2:13 pmIt has to pass the Senate (assuming Lieberman does not defect to the GOP over such a vote) and survive conference committee on any differences before Bush would even have to veto.

They have been shouted down by their GOP “brothers”. If you knew much about American history you would know that Lincoln railed against the Mexican American war.

March 23rd, 2007 at 2:30 pmKucinich: no compromise

So there is not Constitutionally required form or format and an AUMF can be construed as a Declaration of War, but it is stretching it.
Spudge,
Cute, very, very cute
March 23rd, 2007 at 2:46 pm#98 Spudge; The republcains haven’t done anything about the terrorists that attacked us on 9/11. No a dam thing.
I have to disagree. According to Seymour Hersh Bush is funding groups with ties to Al Qaida. And he’s doing it perhaps with stolen money and without congressional knowledge.

March 23rd, 2007 at 2:47 pmThe anthrax attacks are most likely “in house”. Jake can you shed some light on the anthrax mailings? Or if I used right wing smear tatic questioning it would sound like…….Jake when did you stop mailing the anthrax and will you start it up again?
If I’m on his ignore list could someone else ask him?
March 23rd, 2007 at 2:48 pmbig papa, why are you attacking ggibson for pointing out the truth?
Anytime a Dem WAS in front of a camera, they should have been talking about the illegal war and they didn’t. Anytime they were invited onto Fox, they should have talked about the illegal war, but they didn’t.
They have not stood up and spoke out when it counted. They discounted the Democrats that held the meetings in the well under the Congress. They distanced themselves and didn’t speak up.
And now you are going to attack one of our own for saying so. Come on now. You know he is right and what I just said is right.
March 23rd, 2007 at 2:49 pmLiberal Heart Terrorist:
“The notion that anyone is creating terrorists is sick and very misguided.”
Well, I imagine it wouldn’t make much sense to you if your “conclusion” rests on the premise that “terrorists=brown people” – hard to create a brown person except the old fashioned way.
“America is a great country and they should have no reason to hate us.”
They shouldn’t; yet they do – ever wonder why? Well a few Americans and a few more multinationals bully them, treat them like crap, and antagonize them, making the rest of us look bad, all the while they’ve got folks like you at home, majorly misinformed and uneducated who will bend over backwards (and secretly forwards) to defend their actions no matter what.
America is a great country; we just have a few loud, arrogant a$$holes like yourself.
“They are just jealous of us and people like you are just self-hating, spoiled Americans who should be forced to live like the Islamic militants you spend hours defending.”
Show me a link to a single post/thread on this forum where a single one of us has defended “Islamic Militants” there fuxtik.
March 23rd, 2007 at 2:49 pmRepublicants seem to conveniently forget when Anthrax put out their last album…oh wait…nevermind…wrong attack.
Seriously, who really follows that line of logic – gee, let’s attack an irrelevant country – that outta stop the terrorists. WTF!
March 23rd, 2007 at 2:52 pmHey, you said for giggles.
But, in reagrds to your comment, while Wikipedia is great for getting information, I don’t hold it up as a resource for legal matters.

March 24th, 2007 at 12:18 amGood. But why the heck does everyone call it redeployment?! Redeployment means sending troops back out there.
Stop making it sound like I’m cheering for something that would be a HORRIBLE idea. Or make up a new word.
Thanks!
