64 percent:

The “record high” number of Americans who believe the Iraq war was not worth fighting, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll. “Two-thirds oppose George W. Bush’s troop surge; most oppose it strongly.”

  2. gummitch says:

Only 64%? Our work is not yet done.

  3. tarazan says:

So, what does that mean?…even if we have 90% who does not support the war…What are our options. Congress !!

I think we should demand to have issues of national importance to be voted on in a national referundum like other countries do.

Waiting for Congress -which is in bed with lobyists- does not reflect national sentiments, feeling and desires of the masses…It is also a slow motion for dection making.

Had people voted on national refereundum last November, on ending the war..plain and clear…Bush will not be able to blame the people…but he can blame the Congress for,as he said, ‘Playing politics’….

  4. Abby says:

In short, 36% of Americans support the mass murder of innocent civilians just because those civilians happen to be Muslims or brown.

Yup, we are good people. It is our freedoms that those Muslims hate.

  5. Zooey says:

The entire 64% needs to speak up. Stop watching Survivor and NASCAR, and spending your Saturdays at the mall — contact your congressperson, newspaper editor, family, and neighbors.

Make your self heard! This war must end now!

    Hi Jake.

  10. Jake says:

firehead, couldn’t agree more. The mess in Iraq is all the media’s fault. If the media weren’t so liberal, there would have been weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, Saddam Hussein would have been linked to Al Qaeda and 9/11, and our occupation of Iraq would have paid for itself.

It’s all the media’s fault. Zero blame belongs to the Bush administration or the good strong patriots like us who supported the invasion and occupation of a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, as well as its governance by young Republican patriots who ruled exclusively by Republican principles (free markets, no socialism, no negotiations with dead-enders).

Zbigniew Brzinski (sic) said last night that 4 million iraqis have been diplaced and that half of those, the best and the brightest, have fled the country.
Glad we could help those Iraqis find some democracy with those sham elections though.

It is always easy to blame it on the media. The media is owned by big corporations anyway.

The opposite is true..the media is helping Bush in everyway they can. They sell the government line of message.

But when you have bodies brought home, expenses in the billions of dollars of this war and in this age of computers internet technology, the media effort to hide the facts about this war has limits.

  15. R says:

Well, I guess I must be somewhere in that 64%. I am having such a fun time, watching Bush have his temper tantrum over the House funding bill. If he vetoes that bill, imagine how bad he looks to the American people, cutting off funding for his own war and vet health care, too! Congress is one, smart bunch of cookies. Incidentally, this morning I sent e-mails to just about every damned NBC address there is, telling them just what I said above regarding Bush and his veto threats.

  19. EvilPoet says:

The war was a product to sell. Heckuva job BushCo – your sales pitch worked! America bought it – MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

“White House officials said today that the administration was following a meticulously planned strategy to persuade the public, the Congress and the allies of the need to confront the threat from Saddam Hussein. The rollout of the strategy this week, they said, was planned long before President Bush’s vacation in Texas last month. It was not hastily concocted, they insisted, after some prominent Republicans began to raise doubts about moving against Mr. Hussein and administration officials made contradictory statements about the need for weapons inspectors in Iraq. The White House decided, they said, that even with the appearance of disarray it was still more advantageous to wait until after Labor Day to kick off their plan. ”From a marketing point of view,” said Andrew H. Card Jr., the White House chief of staff who is coordinating the effort, ”you don’t introduce new products in August.” -New York Times, 09-07-02

  20. Badger says:

#18 The war was a product to sell.
I believe that Bin Laden and his ilk wanted us to invade Iraq, and that Bush and his propaganda team were just the ones to do it.
Not only are we now bogged down in a Quagmire that creates more Anti American sentiment daily but
We have diverted our efforts away from the Taliban in Afghanistan.
After the tragic events of Sept. 11 we had World Wide Support and Sympathy. After 6 years of Bush policy where are we???

#19 – How would Bush know anything about war? Maybe if the chickenhawk wasn’t a chickenhawk he would understand things better and things wouldn’t be so screwed up. But he doesn’t and we’re not. Simply put, this administration has betrayed America and taken advantage of her trust. Where are we? On a fast track to nowhere.

You know, the GOP was supposed to make things better NOT worse. In 2000 Bush and his team were the ones that came on to the scene all grandiose and big talking, making this claim and that claim about how “it is absolutely essential for us to do whatever has to be done to restore honor and integrity to the Oval Office.” Have they done that? NO THEY HAVE NOT! What has the GOP done in the last 5+ years? Lots of damage. Thanks for nothing BushCo – heckuva job!

George W. Bush stands firmly behind Alberto Gonzales, not because he actually believes a thing the AG has to say, but because Gonzo has a warm, round, firm ass and it feels good to rub against it.The AG is there “to serve, at the pleasure ” of the President.
“Mmm… You know- Laura doesn’t do THIS for me, Gonzy, baby! Now, move that thang”!

Congress needs to pull funding. This is why we elected you. Bring our troops home, lets work on health care and on ending the tax cuts for the rich.

    Go Pelosi!!! Woo hoo!

  27. Abby says:

Even if the terrorists were all hogtied and penned in for Bush to kill at will, Bush would most likely get shot in the face by a fellow chicken hawk.

Clueless chicken hawks who don’t know what end of the gun to point at the enemy (or even who the enemy is) still don’t get why they are losing this “war”.

Can it get worse than this? Yes, it can and it will.

But the jesus freaks can rest easy in their Faith that it’s all Clinton’s fault.

  28. Ben Dover says:

These data prove one thing about the success of the Bush Abomination. The consistent 30-34 percent who approve of anything and everything that moron does or says show that keeping the base happy returns lots of support. Unfortunately for the nation and the poor souls being killed for no purpose in Iraqnam, supporting the base does nothing for the majority. I honestly hope that if the “christians” are right and that there is a heaven and hell, Bush and his crime family spend eternity with some guy with pointy ears and a fish spear in his hand, prodding their asses into the fire every day.

    Comment by michael — March 24, 2007 @ 2:41 pm

Why are you asking Zooey? That is something you should have thought about before you broke the secular Iraqi levy that was holding back the spread of Muslim extremism from Afghanistan all the way to the Mediterranean.

Iran is Shia and the Sunni oppressed majority in Iraq was Shia. What did you expect would happen once Saddam was no longer in power? And don’t tell me “nobody could have foreseen….”

Everybody knew. Everybody tried to warn you. There were detailed articles that proved how only Iran could benefit from any war in Iraq.

Cut and Run you must. The only thing left for you to decide is how many more Iraqis and Americans you are willing to get killed before you do the obvious and how much more money you are willing to pour down this bottomless pit.

But why should you be worried about this? You know it’s all going to be Clinton’s fault in the end.

Blame the liberals, blame the anti-war crowd, blame anybody you like for losing this glorious exercise of “self-defense” in Iraq but stop this madness now.

What got me mad was his talk about how there will be a civil war and liberals will all be in trouble. It makes me nuts because much like Iraq everybody would lose.

  35. SouthWest Bob says:

The “surge” appears to be working,

In all, at least 74 people were killed or found dead in
Iraq on Saturday, making it the seventh deadliest day since U.S. and Iraqi forces launched the security operation on Feb. 14, according to an Associated Press tally.

The U.S. military also announced the deaths of two more U.S. soldiers on Friday — one killed by a roadside bomb while on a foot patrol south of Baghdad and another who died in fighting in the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Anbar province.

When the truth is revealed about the administration’s plans to never leave Iraq, but to stay and protect the oil companies’ interests and to have bases for perpetual attacks on “terrorist” (oil rich) counties then Americans will realize how bushco has robbed all Americans.

  36. keith says:

This is the fault of the drive by media, as El Rushbo calls it.

Keep telling the American people Iraq was a disaster and a bad decision, and eventually they will believe it. Good job, traitors.

Nonsense. Bush has had the bully pulpit for six years. He’s had Tony Snow standing up there lying for him. He’s had the compliant news media helping him out. They helped him get his war in the first place. The news media reported all his lies as fact. Average Americans are just not as dumb as trolls like you, firehead. On top of that, too many Americans have a friend or a relative serving in Iraq who will tell them that Bush, Cheney, Fox News, and the rest of the right-wing pundits are full of crap.

Bush has had the advantage all along. If he can’t make people believe his bullshit, it’s not the news media’s fault. People know they’re being lied to. They caught on. The jig is up.

  38. chimpeach says:

    #8 firehead

And another thing about Bush’s advantage. He’s kept this country from seeing the flag-draped coffins coming home from Iraq. This administration has done more to control the message than any other presidency in our history. And what other president would have had the nerve to use soldiers as props for his photo ops even while he’s sending them back for their third or fourth tours and cutting the hell out of their VA health benefits? Bush’s use of propaganda is unparalleled in American history.

  39. Com-n-sense says:

With all that’s been happening – wow whataweek – I just saw the video of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the podium ducking for cover when a motar shakes the building as it explodes near by and there’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki just skaking off his body guards and going on as if nothing happened. If nothing else, the man has got sand.

But, if nothing else, this one video will answer the question if the “surge” is working (?) … it’s over folks …

reminds me of the Tent Offensive – after that only the dullest of blades could think we needed to be there –

Now let me get this straight… A poll says 64% don’t think the war is worth fighting and you nutty libs cream your pants and protest and burn American flags and an American soldier in effigy.

Typical nutty libs – picking and choosing reality. What hypocrites.

#41..Masked protestors, huh? Naw.. neocons wouldn’t be so low as to do something like this to make the anti-war segment look bad.. Funny.. all the anti-war protestors I have seen are proud of what they’re doing, and see no need to hide their identities.

  48. old hippie woman says:

  49. Stubain says:

#42 – These protestors are your nutty lib brethren. You guys are anti war and so are they. The anti American message that you guys spew here and the message at that protest are very similar.

If the Tim McV argument is the best you got, you are weak, very weak. Righties did not advocate what he did. We railed against it. You nutty libs advocate defeat in Iraq just like those nuts in Portland. The different is the righties disagreed with TM, you guys agree with the nuts in Portland.

  50. old hippie woman says:

Uhhh.. Stubby.. and I can guess where you got that name.. try reading for a change.. including the links you provided.. MASKED PROTESTORS?????.. who the f*** wears a mask at a peace protest?
