Right-wing blogosphere drops Gonzales.

By Amanda Terkel on Mar 25th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

Right-wing blogosphere drops Gonzales.

The Carpetbagger Report looks at conservative blogs, who, like conservative lawmakers, no longer support Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

UPDATE: Flashback: Right-wing blogs initially dismissed the prosecutor purge as an “alleged scandal” and a “silly little, manufactured kerfluffle.”

It’s taking a while, but Torture Boy will be gone very shortly. The GOP is abondoning him.

  2. n69n says:

theyve all ditched gonzo, but nobodys told bush yet.

  3. Zooey says:

I’m actually starting to feel embarrassed for Gonzo.

Feeling that way pisses me off, frankly. :P

  4. VerbalKint says:

Ouch! That’s gotta hurt the trolls.

  5. VerbalKint says:

It’s pretty much down to Dumbya and Barney.

  7. Briseadh na Faire says:

    We’re left with a trifecta: Rove-Dick-Bush.

Wonder if Barney goes for Berto’s leg when he visits, either to bite or hump..?

I would like to know how this group feels now:

Hispanic Group Puts Weight Behind Gonzales
Rights Organization Wants to Work More Closely With Bush

    By Darryl Fears
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Wednesday, March 9, 2005; Page A03

The National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest Hispanic civil rights organization, embraced Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales at an awards ceremony last night, breaking with other civil rights organizations that have denounced Gonzales for his role in producing the administration memo that allowed harsh treatment of detainees overseas.

Although La Raza supported Gonzales’s appointment as attorney general, last night’s ceremony marked a first, highly public step in the group’s effort to alter its image as a left-leaning organization, said Janet Murguia, its president and chief executive.

  10. Spiffarino says:

The freeps and LGF goons don’t care about him. After all, he’s a Mexican.

Bring it on, trolls. Bring it on.

    Meanwhile, back at the “surge”;

Clashes erupt in central Baghdad; 2 dead By SINAN SALAHEDDIN, Associated Press Writer
    1 hour, 14 minutes ago

BAGHDAD – With U.S. attack helicopters buzzing overhead, gunmen and Iraqi security forces clashed Sunday in a Sunni area in central Baghdad, and police said at least two people were killed in fighting in the neighborhood’s narrow streets and alleys….

Jassim said the arrival of U.S. troops in the area briefly stopped the clashes but the fighting resumed when the Americans left.

More proof that Bush is implementing an effective strategy for stabilizing Iraq – NOT.

I say, let Bush veto the spending bill, or let the Republicans filibuster it. And don’t bring it back for any further debate.

    No bill=no funds.

    No funds=no war.

  12. Snappy says:

Gonzo is toast. Sayonara. Rove will be next. Scums.

  13. Jim Source says:

The three articles of impeachment drawn up against President Nixon in 1974 were 1. Obstruction of Justice 2. Abuse of Power 3. Contempt of Congress.

Congress could save some legal fees by simply cutting and pasting the wording into a new document. For example:

Article 1, No. 4: Interfering or endeavoring to interfere with the conduct of investigations by the Department of Justice of the United States.

Article 2, No. 3: Engaged in covert and unlawful activities, and attempted to prejudice the constitutional right of an accused to a fair trial.

And it looks like we may be able to use this one soon:

Article 3: Interposed the powers of the Presidency against the lawful subpoenas of the House of Representatives.

  14. Perry Logan says:

When wingers use words like “kerfluffle,” you know things are going well.

  15. Zandar says:

Gonzo has been “dismissed for performance related reasons”

Or will he be? Which is more important, the number of bodies Gonzo knows that are buried and where they are and the fact that he’s on his last inch of rope and has nothing left to lose, or the number Rove knows and the fact that keeping Gonzo around risks the Turdblossom?

  16. Gregor Samsa says:

Even the guy running a blog called the “Right Wing Nut House” says:

I will brook no excuses by commenters that Gonzalez “misspoke,” or “forgot,” or “got a note from his mother” that gave him permission to lie, or other excuses from the ever dwindling number of Bush diehards who visit this site.

This latest development puts the trolls who visit this site, and post comments defending Gonzales, squarely in the father figure seeking, authoritarian personality loving, boot licking, Bush personality cult following category.

    Either that, or

    * they’ve been promised a reduced sentence for every day they troll here;

*they were fired from their jobs as Wal-Mart greeters and it was either troll here or join the army; or

    * they suffer from Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

    Symptoms of ODD may include:

    frequent temper tantrums
    excessive arguing with adults
active defiance and refusal to comply with adult requests and rules
deliberate attempts to annoy or upset people
blaming others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
often being touchy or easily annoyed by others
    frequent anger and resentment
mean and hateful talking when upset
    seeking revenge

Eery how this seems to describe the entire Bush Administration, isn’t it?

ah ha! we already knew that gregor…

the comment by jim source reminded me of something i heard on AAR…
seems the time it took to investigate and then draw up those articles was only a few months, december to february, i think…
    anyone know?
i’m wondering why we hear about the too long process to go for it now… sure seems to be the only and best thing to do for posterity’s sake, at the least… or what will the children say?…

  19. Gregor Samsa says:

    Briseadh na Faire,

Good points. In two of your your explanations, the trolls at least are getting something in exchange.

I wonder how long before they come here, in full fledge and full force, to defend their Dear (mis)Leader’s henchman, and accuse the “liberal” media of “fabricating” the scandal.

(Although there is someone already in the Feinstein thread trying to change the subject to Clinton -how predictable)

I meant to say “In case there was any doubt left…” -not that the regulars in this board had any doubt left whatsoever.

The Right Wing Nut House calls them “diehards”; I have long called them “the cultists” or “the blind followers”.

  21. Jake says:

For the record, I never try to change the subject to Clinton — on this topic, for instance, I was against the right-wing blogs over the Dubai ports deal — see how “Independent” I am?

  22. Gerald Gibson Jr says:

These facists are second rate. Dont they know that real fascists never EVER turn their backs on the big lie? You are supposed to pick an enemy and no matter what is done to them… no matter how vile… you ALWAYS support the people that are on your side that did it to them.

They need to spend more time studying the nazis if they are going to take over America.

So, how do you feel about Halliburton moving their operations to Dubai?

  24. GOP Leadership says:

This is just a temporary setback. We need to dump him because he would just make it harder for us to steal the next election. Thing will get back on track. The Dems are bowing to us as I speak.

  27. I WORFEUS says:

Whats amazing is you watch shows like Mclaughlin or Inside Washington and you see guys like Pat Robertson and Tony Blankley arguing that he did nothing wrong in firing the US Attorneys.

What guys like Tony Blankley, seem to be completely oblivious to is that Gonzales told Congress, and the American people that he wasn’t involved in the firings.

But the evidence shows he was LYING.

    Get a clue Tony Blankley.

    He LIED.

  28. I WORFEUS says:

I would love to debate Tony Blankley.

    Jake sez:

    Izzat so?

Time for another installment of “Jake’s Biggest Lies”

The following are all direct quotes from Shakey Jake:

Now you know how we felt after Clinton’s Senate acquittal. Once you get Bush lying under oath, let me know.

    ———

Was the U.S. Attorney fired by Clinton investigating Congress, specifically Dan Rostenkowski?

    ———

Per the Report’s own methodology, this is the BARE MINIMUM number fired, and could be UNDERCOUNTING. Why don’t we ask all of Clinton’s officials under oath too?

    ———

    Bluedog49:

I though Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice? Thanks for setting me straight though.

    ———

LOL! Funny how neither Carter nor Clinton were charged with obstruction of justice then for firing U.S. Attorneys who were investigating Democrats!!

Sheesh…Too easy, Shakey. Too easy by half.

Remember, you inept little liar: your vaunted “ignore list” doesn’t work both ways. I reserves the right to continue calling you on your outrageous lies.

    All the best. ^_^

  30. Clayton says:

    37 Republican investigations

    262 Democratic investigations,

Time to get politics out of DOJ.

Assuming we could restrain ourselves from pounding his big fat head in.

  33. Marie says:

It is now confirmed why Bush never took an oath during the 911 commission interview; and why he never uses Emails.
I heard that there is a network email system in the White house and everyone has an account — except Bushie and Gonzo never use it. Rove has his own private email account.
The rightwingers are backing away from Gonzo today because it is evident that he lied under oath, and lies often when speaking extemporaneously.
An AG who lies is untenable. Not only must he resign; he must face charges.

  34. Marie says:

When worfeus and big papa mix it up with that jerk, Tony Blankley, I want to attend!

  35. katy says:

me too! … i was just thinking the same thing, marie

and your comment is right on, as usual…

  36. gummitch says:

Krauthammer ’s column this morning says to dump Alberto, not because he did anything wrong with the USA’s, but because he fumbled the very simple explanation of why he did nothing wrong and has made things awkward for The Decider.

And beat that tired drum about how, absent any evidence of obstruction of justice, this is all just a kerfluffle. (Is that the right word? Not being a closeted Republican, it’s difficult to know.) Leaving aside in his weasely manner, that the White House isn’t doing much to help determine whether or not there has been any obstruction.

  37. Marie says:

I can’t read Krauthammer in the morning unless I have had at least two cups of coffee to steel myself. He is a jerk of the first order.

  38. jake3988 says:

ZOMG! A conservative did something wrong/illegal and conservatives are actually going to hold them accountable?

    Sweet.

  41. Dreary Urbanite says:

Jake3988 – Never fear. The conservatives have not developed a sense of ethics or anything drastic like that. They are just afraid that they are running the risk of no one calling themselves a Repub will ever be elected again and they haven’t gone to the trouble of thinking of a new name yet.

  42. midwestblue says:

Just like Iraq–those guys had no “Plan B” when they cooked up this whole transparent “Pemanent Republican Majority” scheme. They just asumed they wouldn’t get caught, or, at the very least, could talk their way out of it. In that bubble, they can’t take the pulse of the American people, and I think they’d better watch it. Soon there may be vigorous calls for impeachment. A weak President should not stonewall congress on this issue. To the average American, Bush looks untrustworthy now, and he will look even more so if he stonewalls. Many people don’t give a crap about executive privilege or executive unitary theory. All they’ll think is: “They’re hiding something.”

  43. TerrytheTurtle says:

Now you know how we felt after Clinton’s Senate acquittal. Once you get Bush lying under oath, let me know.

Isn’t swearing to uphold the US constitution part of the oath of office?

    QED

  44. Marie says:

    True blue
    That’s what I think too.
Only news junkies like us are fully informed of details, etc. Most people will develop a vague sense of unease that will tell them that Bush&Co are hiding something – they are dishonest. They have to go.
Bush has painted himself into a corner.
    But cornered animals are vicious.

  45. Dreary Urbanite says:

Marie – I think even the dullest amongst us understands being ripped off and I think that we might have better luck by framing it in those terms. For instance, what percentage of this latest “war” appropriations bill is being paid to cronies of this regime to do jobs that we have already paid for them to complete? Plan A has always been profit and plan B is to profit even if it is unpopular.

  46. troll alert says:
