By Faiz Shakir on Mar 27th, 2007 at 7:49 pm

Green zone attack kills 2 Americans.

“Two Americans, a contractor and a soldier, were killed in a rocket attack on the heavily guarded Green Zone on Tuesday, according to statements from the U.S. Embassy and the military. Five other people were wounded, one contractor who was seriously hurt and three with slight wounds. A second soldier also was wounded in the attack, but the military did not give a condition.”

We can’t pacify Iraq, a country the size of California.

We can’t pacify Baghdad, a city the size of Los Angeles.

We can’t even pacify the Green Zone, an area the size of Chichen Itza.

Tell me how well the “surge” is working again….

…I love it when you lie to me.

What would WE do if we were the others?

    The same thing.

Either start genocide or get out…. they have no plans to go anywhere… this is exactly what the vietnamese have said several years after the vietnam war was over. They would never give in. It was their home and no matter how many were killed there was no other option.

IF the Iraqis would find some unnatural kindness and allowed America to stay… AND their sunni-shiite neighbors to be forgiven… AND overlook their future plans…. AND decide to share the oil…. AND decide to change their entire system over to a unknown system called democracy… then maybe MAYBE things would be all happy and all will be forgiven and we can get along… Short of Jesus coming back and waving his hands across the middle east or something…. what are the chances of that happening? Seriously. Analytically. What is the %?

    F*cker, don’t minimize this.

  8. Jake says:

Bob (you’re not the hacker, right?):

I am never “happy” at the loss of innocent life — every major war our country has been in has had collateral damage — it’s a fact of life.

  9. Whizz Bang says:

Obviously, those two didn’t get McCain’s memo.

  10. Whizz Bang says:

Jake, this isn’t a war; it’s an occupation.

  11. TripMaster Monkey says:

    Jake sez:

More than 2 people were killed in Los Angeles today.

So…you’re comparing the city of Los Angeles to the Green Zone? This is why we question your reading comprehension, Jake.

Tell me, how many people were killed today in Chichen Itza? And in Baghdad?

  12. Jake says:

    Whizz Bang:

    John McCain:

“General Petraeus goes out there almost every day in an unarmed humvee. I think you oughta catch up. You are giving the old line of three months ago. I understand it. We certainly don’t get it through the filter of some of the media.”

“Two Americans, a contractor and a soldier, were killed in a rocket attack on the heavily guarded Green Zone on Tuesday, according to statements from the U.S. Embassy and the military.

Did McCain forget to tell the U.S. Embassy and military in Iraq that this is three month old news?

  20. Jake says:

In case anyone brings up a purported “rape joke” of mine, Gerald Gibson Jr . made the comment on that thread that Iraq was being “raped” — I guess that’s what’s going to be argued here too, but I was responding to that analogy, not making a joke about real rape — if anyone else (NOT on the “Ignore List” for personal attacks and/or refusing to answer my questions) has a question whether my response was about real rape, please let me know — thanks.

  21. stonehinge says:

Well, this has been expected. This is at least the third rocket attempt on the green zone in nearly that many days. It was only a matter of time until they could get the trajectory worked out.

    Lebanon barracks anyone?

I don’t think helicopters over the embassy will cut it this time.

    Moron.

  26. DM says:

Jake, the honeymoon is over, you officially suck.

The “dead in LA” comment is worse than irrelevant, it is an attempt to trivialize an enormous crisis – Bush chose to create this conflict, and he chose the circumstances for those men to die, and he convinced us to let him by lying to the American people, and having his staff lie to Congress and the United Nations.

He chose to have Americans killed, for no discernable purpose.

And you choose to defend this choice, which makes you an apologist for a murderer. The Chinese have a hell just for you and your kind: It’s called the Chamber of Tongue-Ripping.

Bush needs to answer the Viet Nam question of how do you ask someone to be the last man to die for a mistaken war?

No, Shakey…you were the one who clumsily tried to twist the reference to your own mendacious ends.

You tried to compare the Green Zone to L.A.. I could go on and on here, but Zooey summed it up admirably in post #22.

You mean due to the landing area that the new embassy has?

  32. Badger says:

Bush KNEW how to get out of Viet Nam.

  33. bob (not hacker) says:

    Hij ake,
glad you’re back to talking to me, even if you’re pretending you’re not. #4 Bob is not me, although he beat me to the same comment, (keep it up “Bob” and you’ll wind up on MY list :))

Jake: take responsibilty for your words and thoughts. you expressed a lack of concern about the “smelly brown” people who died in that blast. Your buddy Rodan may be deranged, demented, and dumb, but at least he owns his ignorance.

Collateral damage is what mcvie called the children in the child care center in OK, was that acceptable? How can there be collateral damage in a war of choice, an illegal war?

  34. ForTruth says:

    Jake,

44,000 people a year die in car accidents in the US. Do we see any reporting on that? Why not? Because its a choice we have made.

We didn’t chose to go to Iraq and die.

  35. Whizz Bang says:

    Regarding Jake’s delirium tremors:

Isn’t this newfound GOP rationale precious: people that aren’t in Iraq die; therefore, it’s perfectly acceptable for people (whether Iragi, or American, or whatever) to be murdered in Iraq.

That squares perfectly with at least one of the Testaments…doesn’t it?

The GOP Jesus says, “Just kill everybody; it’s all good.”

  36. Vance says:

Contractors are unlawful combatants. In other words, who cares?

  37. ForTruth says:

Someone said you can’t walk up on ChichenIza anymore. If so, glad I got to go a couple years ago. It’s pretty damn cool, and humid as hell.

  38. stonehinge says:

You mean due to the landing area that the new embassy has?

    Hiya Juan. Been missing you.

No, it’s not a question of landing area. My point is that it’s one hell of a long way from Baghdad to the Gulf. It will take a huge movement over land to make an exit and the logistics are horribly complicated by the presence of so many civilians. I’m afraid that Bush has already foolishly squandered any chance of making a graceful exit.

  39. Central Scrutinizer says:

Same here. I read your posts with an awe face. You seem to be really out of this trollsh*t thing, pretty calm and really insightful.

I wasnt trying to rebutt you or your point. I was just pointing the fact of the new super fortress embassy in Iraq. ;)

  55. Valiant Penus says:

More than 2 people were killed in Los Angeles today.

Joke… uhm I mean Jake.. tell me.. how much heavy weaponry, fortifications, and armor was required to keep many many more people from dying in Los Angeles today?

How many IED’s went off in LA today? How many snipers? How many bodies were dumped?

And whats the population/acreage of green zone vs LA ?

you remind me of this idiot trying to insist that Iraq was as safe as Brazil because the murder rates were similar… never mind Brazil has about 10 times the population of Iraq…

  56. Evil Spaniard says:

And, how many USA people died from a rocket attack outside of the USA or Iraq?

    Waiting for the answer…

    Oh, it’s zero the number?

  57. Com-n-sense says:

And last week, in what may be the most definitive news clip ever ( http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nationworld/bal-iraq0322,0,2271911.story) that proves the folly of the Iraq invasion, the Sec. Gen. of the UN ducked for cover as an explosion goes off near by.

Tell us again trolls how well the “surge” is working when were now getting attacked on a regular basis in what is suppose to be our most secure place to be?

And the average death toll for troops is up to 3.1, up from 2.3 a year ago, I guess the “surge” is working if you’re into the death of our troops.
