Tony Snow’s cancer returns.

By Nico Pitney on Mar 27th, 2007 at 10:09 am

Tony Snow’s cancer returns.

“Presidential spokesman Tony Snow’s surgery to remove a small growth showed that his cancer has returned. … A small growth was discovered last year in his lower right pelvic area, and it was removed on Monday. Doctors determined that it was cancerous, and that his cancer had metastized, or spread, to his liver.”

snowcancer.jpg

UPDATE: Snow’s prognosis is reportedly good:

Blood tests and a PET imaging scan had come back negative for cancer.

There are a lot of effective therapies to treat liver cancer that has spread from colon cancer, said FOX News’ Dr. Manny Alvarez.

“It’s small enough that he should go into remission again after adequate treatment,” Alvarez said.

While I would certainly hate to wish anyone major misfortune like this, sometimes asshats like Snowjob deserve to know why so many Americans want health care themselves but simply can’t afford it.

He’s lucky – he gets awesome health care from his job. Most Americans aren’t half as lucky – but I doubt snowjob will care, because he’s not most Americans in his own eyes.

Very bad news for Snow. Although I could do without his continuous stream of bullsh*t, I wish him a full recovery, though I’m afraid that’s not likely.

  6. Jason says:

I’ve had many differences with Tony Snow in the past, but I pray he survives this and lives healthy for a long time. I also have colitis, and therefore suffer an increased risk of colon cancer. As a college student, its tough to know career options are already limited because of the disease, but knowing that Tony Snow worked in one of the most stressful positions in the White House is at least a little inspiring. I hope he pulls through this – it will give me and all the others living with colitis and colon cancer more hope.

A small growth was discovered last year

seems strange that a cancer “survivor” would wait so long to get that growth out… i know “last year” was only 3 months ago, but i sure as hell wouldn’t wait more than a week! … he was so nonchalant about it the other day… guess it surprised him… probably thought he was too important to the WH to bother with his own health… too bad…

best wishes, tony… get better and live right!

btw, TPrs – GET THE COLONOSCOPY … and not the “virtual” one…
i’ve had 2 because of family ties… the prep is a drag, but you’re out for the procedure… anyone over 40 needs to ask about it… DO IT…

  25. kelso says:

Political people are different than you and I. And you know, most people like Tony would turn to God. Tony turns to Bush and defends the P.O.S. in spite of the effects it has on his health.

Good luck Tony, fight the cancer as hard as you fight the press and you’ll be just fine.

  26. TomInMaine says:

I wish anyone in that situation all the best.

But considering the number that, Rush, Katie Couric, Fox and the rest of the Right Wing gaggle machine have done and continue to do to the Edward’s one this leads one to wonder if Snow decides to stay in his job whether or not he will get the same media treatment.

    NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Unlike many in the right wing blogosphere, who seemed to take some measure of pleasure in ridiculing the Edward’s response to Elizabeth’s diagnosis, I wish Tony nothing but the best and everyone should hope for a full recovery. While we may vehemently disagree with what he does for this administration, he is not our enemy. He is an American and he needs our support.

Cancer knows no political boundaries. It is an equal opportunity disease.

So save the invectives for someone more deserving. Like Ann Coulter.

    Comment by brie — March 27, 2007 @ 10:31 am

I don’t think he did either. But look, do you remember the day after the Edwards announcement, Snow said he was going to get a spot looked at, and that he had been putting it off.

Now maybe he just decided to go because of the Edwards announcement, and he was worried.

But at this point, I haven’t seen his chart, and I don’t know what he does or does not have. It may be some benign pollop that they’re blowing out of proportion. It may be nothing.

    But one things for sure.

The Edwards announcemnet had thrust John Edwards into the spotlight, and brought a huge and positive reaction to his campaign for President.

Tony Snow’s announcement, that came less than 48 hours after the Edwards announcement, has deflated the Edwards story.

Whether it was Tony’s intention or not, the outcome is the same.

Sorry, but my antenna are up on this one, and I just don’t think we are getting the straight dope.

  42. elemgee says:

Hey, Xbot, JRoyale, oldhacks and all you others preparing to give us a wittly little comment about how TS deserves his cancer: Karma is a bitch, which is why you shouldn’t have written those words at all. No matter what his politics, his suffering is your suffering, and ours, and you will not benefit in the least from mocking him. He has a path to follow, a purpose to fulfill, people who love and depend on him. I wish him all the very best.

What angers me is that every where we look, cancer is killing our best, our brightest, our young and our saged, but the Bushies want nothing better than to destroy the very research that leads to real cures (not just life extending, excruciatingly debilitating treatments), wants to allow our evironment to continue to be destroyed by cancer-causing toxins, and tries to destroy our ability to access excellent health care–all inorder to fight Dick Cheney’s worthless war and to hand corporations the taxpayers money.

  58. Kate Henry says:

My best wishes to Tony Snow for a full recovery. Even though I think he is an as*hol*, I wouldn’t wish cancer on my worst enemy.

But, this brings up an interesting thought. I wonder if people will start thinking twice about voting for McCain or Guiliani, both of whom have had a bout with cancer. If the right can question whether John Edwards should run for president because, if his wife got sick while he was president, he would be distracted, then they should worry about voting for a person who has already had one bout with cancer. I think that a president fighting cancer would be a much bigger distraction than having a wife who was fighting cancer.

Did this in Dec. As stated the prep is not fun. Basically, it’s a day of starving followed by the human version of Liquid Plumber. Best to clear your calendar for those 2 days & stay at home the prep day. But the procedure is a piece of cake. Fentinyl is amazing stuff. Liver cancer is pretty bad news, considering the function of the liver and its access to the circulatory system.

It’s what killed my father who had survived two previous bouts with colon cancer. Once it spread to his liver, he was told that most people only survive about 6 months with it. He made it 5 years – but it was gruesome. He would have been better off to have only had the 6 months.

I wish Tony the best and hope that he chooses to spend what’s left of his life being an advocate for National Health Care.

I’m not prone to Conspiracy Theories, but I do know that Karl Marx wrote his Manifesto because of the corruption that Capitalism cannot resist… I do not believe a cure for cancer will be released as long as Big Pharma stands to make millions off cancer treatments… They’ve shown little to no empathy for anyone in the recent past, so it makes sense that they won’t start anytime soon… Plus – it’s way cheaper for them to sell existing medications than to develop new ones.

Thanks TMM – That’s a great article – pretty much to the point with explanations and a logic trail. I had read in places that they’d (they being research scientists) figured out a general cure for cancer but had no way of getting it to the general population… While no one with heartburn or erectile dysfunction need suffer that embarrassment…

We’ll spend BILLIONS on fighting ‘terrorism’ for which the odds of being killed by it are about one in 2 million, whereas cancer, which kills more like one in twenty five people is under-funded and road-blocked… Proof that commen sense isn’t so common.

Why did Tony Snow wait so long on having this taken care of.? He knew this last September. I will pray for him and his family. Cancer sucks.

My mom had breast cancer. She had one removed and then in 6 months she had the other removed. She was lucky as she did not have to have chemo. She has been cancer free for 31 years.

  117. Larry from C says:

And what about the cancer we’re causing using weapons make with Depeleted Uranium?

From Common Dreams “War’s Unintended Effects”

“Some Iraqi physicians and others blame depleted uranium weapons used in the 1991 Gulf War for a major increase of cancers and birth defects that occurred a few years later. It is also a prime suspect for the Gulf War Syndrome that has sickened and killed thousands of U.S. veterans.”

The Pentagon and United Nations estimate that U.S. and British forces used 1,100 to 2,200 tons of armor-piercing shells made of depleted uranium during attacks in Iraq in March and April — far more than the estimated 375 tons used in the 1991 Gulf War.

Cancer had already increased dramatically in southern Iraq. In 1988, 34 people died of cancer; in 1998, 450 died of cancer; in 2001 there were 603 cancer deaths. The rate of birth defects also had risen sharply, according to doctors in Iraq.

Now, doctors in Iraq say, the number of cancers and birth defects may be “devastating.”

Unfortunately, even with good insurance, people in this country feel compelled to follow the proper protocol as established by the insurance companies. I wish I had a dollar for every time somebody with real money said to me they can’t have a test taken yet because their insurance won’t pay for it until …

People need to learn to follow their instincts and see the doctor, get the test, whenever they feel something is not right. The insurance companies who dictate all these procedures don’t care about patients, just the bottom line.

So if you feel you need some medical assistance get it now and fight the bill later. Because the Healthcare Issue in this country has a cancer of its own.

While not a doctor, I don’t know if a cure would be found with embyonic stem cell research, but seeing that his mother died of the same disease, I suspect that some kind of genetic research would hold a key.

Katie Couric – wonder if she will be – as some would say - “tough,”on Snow, were she to interview him, or would she have reason to be more sympathetic because not only is he Republican, but her husband died of the same disease.
She has reduced herself in my eyes to the level of one who announces the lottery winners on TV.

It will be curious to hear of Lintball’s reaction to this cancer in his friend. Do you think he will also accuse Snow of getting sick and exploiting it for political purposes? After all it is a good time to be away from the White House. I am sure Rush will not be at a loss for words.

REMEMBER, I CORRECTLY SURMISED IN “White House Forced to Admit ‘Inconsistency’ Over Transcripts” EARLIER POSTING, In COMMENT #81, THAT Snow’s COLON CANCER HAD RETURNED—-THIS TIME IT HAS METASTASIZED, SPREAD TO HIS LIVER—-Tony, YOU BEST COME CLEAN, APOLOGIZE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND SPILL YOUR GUTS OUT ABOUT ALL THE LIES THAT Bushland Uber Allies MADE YOU TELL TO US, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, AND MAYBE GOD WILL HAVE PITY ON YOU AND YOU WILL MIRACULOUSLY SURVIVE YOUR ORDEAL—-OR YOU CAN CONTINUE ON YOUR FECKLESS MERRY WAY WITHOUT CONSCIENCE OR MORALS AND DIE THE DESERVED DEATH OF TRAITORS TO AMERICA LIKE CHIMPya and Bushland Uber Allies!!!!! AND I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT NOT ALL OF US LIBERALS ARE WUSSY PANTYWAISTS AND FORGIVING “WEAK-SISTERS”—-WHEN Rove, CHIMPya, Cheney, GONZO, Rice, Snow AND Bushland Uber Allies ARE ON THE MAT, WE STOMP ON THEIR HEADS WITH HOB-NAILED BOOTS IN CAPS FOR EMPHASIS!!!!!!! THE ONLY WAY I WOULD WISH THE BEST FOR Snow IS IF HE WERE TO COME CLEAN AND CONFESS ALL HIS AND Bush’s HIGH CRIMES AND LIES!!!!!! BUT DO YOU THINK HE IS GOING TO DO THAT HMMMMMMMMMMMMM????????

  136. Beatrice cherene says:

Gee, I thought is was his own head that got stuck up there. I thought the headlines would be “surgeon pulls Snows head out of this colon”. Well, as a human being, I am really sorry it wasn’t something so serious. If he survives, it will ony be because he has access to state-or-the-art therapies…everyone should have a chance like that.

Prayers for his immortal soul. May he find peace.

    who’s next?

  137. WaltTheMan says:

I’ve put up posts much less offensive then those by jojo, only to have them deleted. I had some post deleted and was blocked for a few humorous posts this am. If this kind of patter which jojo posts is allowed to continue, then TP has lost its integrity.
I don’t want to post Tony Snow’s prognosis because I do not have all of the facts. The liver is the body’s master filter. It soaks up all the crap that is poisoning you. Once it develops its own poisons, it starts soaking them up as well.

Statistically, Tony’s best hope is a liver transplant. The 7 year survival rate is a bit better than 73% for that case. It requires a massive chemotherapy regimen prior to the transplant in order to kill cancer cells that lurk elsewhere in the body. Once the seven year benchmark is passed, there is an opportunity for a normal life. One caution is that the bone cancer in Tony’s pelvic bone could be widespread. If that bears out, he would not be eligible for a liver transplant unless a friend or relative offers a partial.

Also, Raymond Funamoto, should be sent to the “Land of the Forgotten”.

  138. Not Canadian says:

Damn. That’s going to be tough to live with–the “What if’s” of timing. Poor guy–I do wish him good health–and a change of heart would be nice, too.

  144. sjarodet says:

While the utter mess the Bush Administration has made over the past years dismays me, I was saddened by the news of Mr Snow’s condition; Cancer is a terrible disease and I wish him well in his battle. Tony – fight the good fight!

  145. sjarodet says:

Uncle Ho – you are aware that cancer can visit your doorstep (as well as the doorstep of a family member)? There is no justification for wishing that kind of horror on anyone.

  149. ForTruth says:

Phew, what a scare, it turns out Bush was in the room when the cancer was detected, it went away when Bush left the room.

  150. Lora says:

I lost a friend to liver cancer just before Christmas 2005 and know that he was in considerable pain during his last few months. Despite certain negative feelings I have about the way Tony Snow handled press conferences, I don’t wish the same on him.

  151. WaltTheMan says:

    #149 – ForTruth,
Do not joke/pun/tease/joke/ or offer crude remarks about this. The odds say that Tony will not see his Grandchildren graduate from college. He may never even see them. That phase of life is more rewarding than a career. To be denied it is heart wrenching.

  152. trippin says:

For 151 Walt: it’s heart-wrenching, to be sure, but it’s even more heartwrenching for the thousands of others who face a similar medical crisis without the high quality health care that being a shill for a crime family affords a person. This all because of the impediments Mr. Snow’s sinfully wealthy tribe puts in the way of national health care. And, to be sure, you won’t hear about all those invidivual human tragedies on tonight’s corporate news.

No, those families suffer in silence. Even if they are insured, they still risk bankruptcy from medical bills, and thanks to Republicans and certain Democrats from Delaware and the DLC, bankruptcy for medical reasons is no cause for leniency from the courts. So if a hospital wants to charge a patient more than what their for-profit insurance wants to pay, they sell their house and throw them out in the street. That’s what I’d call heart wrenching. And that’s the America that Tony Snow advocates.

So yes, while it’s subhuman and callous to not have compassion for Mr. Snow, there are limits to extending compassion to the resolutely compassionless. So forgive me for not being overly concerned about whether he gets to see his grandchildren graduate college. I sincerely hope he does, but I’m not going to lose any sleep over it. There are more pressing matters to be concerned about.

In the interest of fairness and balance, I’m still waiting for Katie Couric to grill Mr. Snow about “what some people might say” about using his illness for political purposes like she did the Edwards. Did anyone ever ask Couric whether she used her husband’s colon cancer and subsequent public colonoscopy to further her own career? You would think she would know better.

  153. ALD says:

C’mon people! Why are some of you being so ugly regarding Tony Snow’s illness. I think he’s a great American and to name call, etc. is at best rude. I can only hope you don’t get to the prime of your lives, have a family, work hard at what you do and find you life snuffed out right before your eyes. “What goes around comes around” and someone mentioned karma in one of the posts. Illness doesn’t care of you’re dem or repub. Compassion should come from everyone.
Tony Snow is a decent man. Those of you who disagree with his politics could at least be HUMAN enough to cut the cracks on him.

  154. T. J. Marcott says:

I have no sympathy for Tony Snow, as he has shown time and again that he has no sympathy for our troops, or the Iraqi people. He is a mouthpiece for a megalomaniac, in a depraved administration. He has a job in a society that has massive unemployment, and a majority of poverty-level workers. He has the best healthcare coverage available, when many in our country are unable to afford it. He gets all teary-eyed when he talks about himself, but has no problem white-washing the issues that negatively affect our citizens. He is a lying, callous, narcissistic, sociopath, and he is not worthy of our compassion. I sincerely hope that Tony Snow suffers a long, gruesome, agonizing, demise before he is caste into the burning pit of hell, or oblivion…whichever is the case, we will all be better off without his B.S.!
As for all of the well-meaning liberals, Dems, and religious folk…don’t kid yourself…most of the nation feels exactly the same as I do on this issue. We are sick of Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rove, and punks like Tony Snow. We would all be much better off if they were dead.

  155. power puff says:

    http://pledgetoimpeach.org/index.html

  157. J says:

Ok, the cancer is “bad news.” Let’s look at it this way: We’re all going to die eventually and we should be prepared for it. Tony Snow is NO spring chicken and his time has come. I would estimate he’ll be around for about one year, and I think that’s stretching it. After that he’ll have a new life in another world.

  158. Fred Powers says:

I think that unless you’ve had cancer yourself, as I’ve had, you should quit wasting everyone’s time with your ‘idiotic’, ’self-serving’ garbage. It is true that “people who know nothing, soon show it”. Write to Dear Abby or someone else who really cares!
