‘Thanks for everything,’

By Faiz Shakir on Mar 28th, 2007 at 3:48 pm

‘Thanks for everything,’

wrote Sen. Domenici’s chief of staff Steve Bell to Karl Rove in a Jan. 8, 2007 e-mail that forwarded the name of a candidate to replace former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias. “This absolutely corroborates what I’ve been saying all along–this is a political matter, not a performance matter,” Iglesias said when a Newsweek reporter read him the e-mail today. “What is he thanking him [Rove] for? It’s thanking him for getting Dave out of the picture.”

UPDATE: Leahy and Conyers write the White House: “[W]e have not heard from you.” The two request documents that the White House has said it is willing to turn over, and conclude by pointing out “that they want to see more than just correspondence from White House email addresses — since people in the White House seem to frequently use RNC-provided email addresses instead.”

  3. Crump's Brother says:

It’s so great because no one is shocked. Not even the Repugs. They think there’s no issue with politically based prosecutions as long as they aren’t aimed at them.

  4. Tuber says:

This is interesting, but only in the same context that a train wreck is “interesting”. Blood, guts, mangled wreckage, and the body counts of victims. But in the end, it is just macabre theatre diverting attention and focus from the more heinous and dire crimes that we, as a nation, are directly responsible for or complicit in through our feigned ignorance and apathy.

We are 4 years into a “war” that we were deceived and misled into engaging in against an innocent citizenry with over 600,000 murdered to date and countless injured and maimed. Some called the bullsh*t from the beginning. Others became wise to it soon after the start. Yet the murder, mayhem, rape, and violent oppression continue to this day because we just cannot figure out how to stop pulling the trigger. Shame on each and every one of us.

Then there is the morally criminal torture and imprisonment of foreigners and our own citizens that continues unabated. I can only say “morally criminal” because we made it LEGAL through the MCA. Nobody talks about this at all anymore which is as reprehensible as the act itself.

We allow spying on our own citizens, ALL of them. We allow war profiteers to not only steal from us, but also our unborn children and grand children. We accept deception and corruption as being just part of the political game. We allow for our own family, neighbors, and friends to be exploited and used as tools of oppression. Some at the cost of their very lives. Others at the cost of their mental well being, their happiness, their souls.

We are standing on the precipice of starting another monumental act of murder and every crime against humanity imaginable against Iran. Many don’t care in the least because of their racism and bigotry. Most don’t concern themselves with it because they believe that we would never attack an innocent country, murder innocent people, and engage in genocide. How anyone can believe such with the Iraq atrocity continuing even as we speak cannot be dismissed as just inbred ignorance, but it is criminal negligence.

Are we going to continue to entertain ourselves with trite political theatre while the blood flows like rivers and our soul becomes so black that the light of a thousand suns would not be able to illuminate it in the least? Are we going to continue to allow our worries about mortgages, car payments, or what version of the iPod to buy to outweigh our moral obligation not just to our society and constitution, but to humanity as a whole? If you are blessed enough to have a child, then look into their eyes and tell them now that you threw away their future and their very life because you were afraid that you might not be able to pay the cable bill.

We are running out of time, my fellow Americans. The situation is no longer urgent, it is dire.

For those of you who wish to continue in complacent and arrogant ignorance, here is your news:
    - Heather Mills leg did not fly off
    - McCain is still a liar and a thief
    - Two “important” Americans have the same affliction that hundreds of thousands of lesser Americans do, cancer.
    - North Dakota regained the world record for generating the most simultaneous snow angels.

Too bad the nonNazis in Germany didnt stand up against the nazis in the 1930s like the democrats are today. The right would have just gone over the edge if they didnt get cold wet reality splashed into their faces to wake them up.

Too bad so many people have gotten into personal bickerings with Jake… it has made his ego expand to the point where he thinks people should care about him personally or even would care to ask him questions about anything at all…

  9. Dogjudge says:

    I love it.

“We’re not commenting on that” because of general White House policy not to talk about “internal White House communications.”

Just a SMALL problem with that statement.

The reason this was initially missed is because this communication was occurring through Mr. Rove’s, unsecured RNC account.

Not that they were trying to hide anything.

  13. bob (not the hacker) says:

Isn’t “Dave’s not here” and old Cheech and Chong bit? On topic, will this be enough to get the dems to supoena rove?

  14. the fly-man says:

Yes, now beyond a reasonable doubt Jimmy Hoffa was buried with the truth and the GOP was responsible. Folks this is going to be spun into”That’s what we said and that’s just our right to our opinion. They’re really worried about having a Democratic Justice Dept. appointed in the next administration and then blow them totally off, stack the Prosecutor positions and then tell them to stuff it. I hope people realize how important it is to pry the GOP’s wretched fingers off the control panel of this country. The way they have constipated any vehicle of transparency with pure dead end medusa like labyrinths is breath taking.

  15. Laura Bush says:

Jake. Always off topic. Always screaming, “It’s all about Me!”

Please go somewhere else. Thank you.

  16. Mrs Panstreppon says:

O.T. but I wanted to pass along info about Monica Goodling trying low-level criminal cases out of the USA-EDVA’s office in the fall of 2004. I pasted a link to the TPM Cafe where I posted details about the three cases and one appeals case filed in 2005.

The AG’s new chief of staff, Chuck Rosenberg, knows why Goodling, a hig-level DOJ official was prosecuting low-level criminal case because Rosenberg was an AUSA in the USA-EDVA’s office at the time and subsequently became USA in June 2006.

My guess is that Goodling was padding her resume to qualify for an USA or other similar position. Kyle Sampson, I am sure, knows the answer.

  17. Goehl says:

Bush is counting on a confrontation with Iran to divert attention from all the sleaze and filth being uncovered. He is hoping Iran will take the bait and bomb a piece of hardware sitting off its shores to begin this process. If not, from what I am hearing from callers on various talk shows – AAR, KGO – Ray TAliaferro and Bernie Ward,, April 6th will be the day our Shock and Awe begins on Iran.

PLEASE, Leahy, Conyers and Waxman, do not divert your attention and continue this much needed work.

  18. ForTruth says:

That is amazing that Heather Mills’ leg didn’t fly off. Bravo.

  19. veritas says:

Aha! Now we have Rove’s fingerprints ALL over this attorney firing scandal….let the fun begin! I see some prison time for Karly RoveReich coming soon…..of course, Rove leads us to the next square in “White House Squares” and that would be the illustrious Mr. Bush. Once Rove is toast, so goes el jefe, Bush.

  20. veritas says:

#4 Tuber – The situation is DIRE, as you’ve said and provided a mountain of evidence. If americans sit back complacently and accept this obvious level of corruption in the highest places of our democracy, then it’s clear that this democracy either is NO MORE or it is not worth fighting for. I say “get off your asses, America, and be heard!”. It’s time to move toward impeachment of Bush, Cheney, et al before they succeed in totally destroying this country….before we have no democracy left….before it’s too late to regain our foreign reputation…..before we’re totally down the tubes!

This train wreck of an administration is already in progress….all of the elements are there…..will people react in time to save this country? Only time will tell…

  21. veritas says:

#17 Leahy and the good guys will not be diverted by the likes of our Fool on the Hill! They’ve got too much support from the american people to continue on the course they’ve begun. They also know that there is a mounting imperative out there to bring about “impeachment charges” and bring them forward NOW.

  22. veritas says:

If this Congress drags it’s feet on “impeachment charges”, then they will be lumped with the “do-nothing, totally corrupt, GOP run 109th congress” and will find themselves in a class action suit by the american people for abrogating their responsibility and derelection of duty in representing the american people. They will also be accused of complicity and abetting criminal activities which could have/should have been halted by them. On some other sites, there are lists being gathered of voting records of the last Congress, in particular, Republicans who continued to subvert justice and aid and abet these criminal activities. These people will be sued by the people individually and collectively. The drums are beating….Bush began this “pissing contest” with the people; Bush will be brought down by the people soon.

    Comment by Jake — March 28, 2007 @ 3:52 pm

You’re as partisan as they come. Being an Independant doesn’t mean you’re not partisan. It just means your ashamed of the GOP so you don’t tell people you’re Republican.

There’s been a lot of Independants around the country lately!

  24. Tuber says:

Although I did author what was posted in #4, I did not post it on this thread.

  25. Eric the Blue says:

If these hearings are just “fishing expeditions” why is it that every cast ends up hooking a big bottom feeder?

  26. ForTruth says:

    “Thanks for that rubber fist”

  27. ForTruth says:

Can we please let go of posters we already hate, and aren’t even posting here. Isn’t it obvious that Jake isn’t really here today, and its a name-jacker?

  28. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

Mrs. Panstreppon… is there a way we can find out if Monica Goodling really did pass the bar exam? That’s an interesting theory that your name links to.

  29. Bob says:

    gimmie some truth

I’m sick to death of seeing
    things
    from tight lipped-
    condescending – mommies little
    chauvanists

    Right on, John!

  30. tryggth says:

So last night I listened to a grilling of the head of the FBI where he admitted that if a pizza parlor phone number got pulled, the people calling the pizza place got their in/out calling numbers pulled.

There are troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some of them will die before we pull out. We really need to know from Rove’s e-mail how much of their current at risk state is purely a function of a truly UnAmerican agenda. Get Rove’s mail. Because it probably will save more lives than getting my mom’s – the pizza eater.

  31. Neo says:

SEN. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As previously and extensively reviewed in these pages, Feinstein was chairperson and ranking member of MILCON for six years, during which time she had a conflict of interest due to her husband Richard C. Blum’s ownership of two major defense contractors, who were awarded billions of dollars for military construction projects approved by Feinstein.

    Talk about bipartisanship.

  32. Raymond Funamoto says:

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
THAT’S THE NICEST THING THAT ANYBODY’S EVER DONE FOR ME
    I MAY SOUND DOUBLE DUTCH
    BUT MY JOY IS SUCH
I FEEL AS IF A LOSING WAR’S BEEN WON FOR ME!

SUNG IN A DELUDED FRAME OF MIND AND FUTILELY BY Steve “Ring-A-Ding-Ding” Bell, Karl FAT-F*CK Rove and CHIMPya W. Bush, WHO WILL ALL SOON FACE THE GRIM REALITY OF RETRIBUTION AS IT FALLS ON THEIR MISERABLE FAT HEADS LIKE A TON OF JAGGED BOULDERS!!!!! HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!!! HAH!
