Today, “President Bush nominated Texas state trial Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.” Elrod once blocked a Texas television station “from broadcasting information about a renowned televangelist, calling it [a move critics called] an ‘intolerable’ violation of the First Amendment.” ACSBlog has more.
Can anyone say “recess appointment”?
March 29th, 2007 at 4:44 pmNo, ThinkProgress. You misread the article to which you linked. The judge did not call the report on the preacher an ‘intolerable’ violation of the First Amendment.
It was the lawyers for the television station who said the judge’s temporary restraining order blocking broadcast of the report was an intolerable violation of the First Amendment.

Can anyone say partisan hack, and unfit to serve? Those are terms both you and Exley should be intimately aware of!
March 29th, 2007 at 4:54 pmActually Exley is correct about the misreading of the blog. The “judge” gave no excuse for his abuse of his position. Then again, what excuse is there for being a partisan hack – like *Exley* and *JakeOff*. There is not excuse for that kind of jack*ssery!

Sheesh…as much as it grieves me to agree with Exley, he’s 100% right on this one…from the first sentence of the linked article:
Don’t wanna get harsh, but that’s just plain sloppy, TP.
March 29th, 2007 at 4:56 pmThank you Exley, I was about to make that point, and another… I’m prepared to believe that this appointment of Elrond by Bush is a bad one, but so far, her decision to uphold the attorney-client privilege does not strike me as even remotely untoward. The TV station needed confidential documents from the TelEvangelists lawyers to tell their story? and they got them? They should have never had those documents and, on it’s face, the judge was right to block their publication on television.
Please choose your stories more carefully, ThinkProgress, and please represent them more accurately.
March 29th, 2007 at 4:57 pmThanks for the quick correction, TP.
March 29th, 2007 at 4:58 pmExley is right. The last line should read:
Elrod stopped the television station from airing negative information on a televangelist, taking away the television stations First Amendment rights. Not to mention Freedom of the Press.
March 29th, 2007 at 4:58 pmDoesn’t matter, Exley — the Dems aren’t going to confirm ANYONE this President sends to the Hill, regardless of qualifications, for quite some time . . .
March 29th, 2007 at 4:59 pmWow! Three postings in a row agreeing with me?! Even VVGFU!

March 29th, 2007 at 5:01 pmThanks for correcting, ThinkProgress.
March 29th, 2007 at 5:01 pm#9 We will never know until he nominates someone qualified. I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.
March 29th, 2007 at 5:02 pmThsi article doesn’t say how they received the document. If it was public knowledge okay but if it was obtained through a leak then I think it would still fall under attorney-client priviledge and should be blocked. Just because it was inthe hands of a reporter doesn’t mean they can print/televise it if it was confidential.

I have a question for you which I may know the answer to. I am coming to New York for a week in April. I have a choice, go to a night game at Yankee stadium or a weekend afternoon Met game. Which do you think I should choose?

Three postings? Where did you learn to count. Just because you’re right *once*, about something relatively irrelevant – doesn’t make us agree on anything of substance. You’re a useless irrelevant twit, that can’t distinguish reality from partisan fantasy. People like you fuel Al Qaeda, and the hate and terrorism in the world.
It’s *you* that destroys democracy, not Osama – you hateful piece of sh*t.
March 29th, 2007 at 5:10 pmWell, Yikes, obviously I am biased…As a Mets fan, I should say go to Shea and see the Mets (Plus, I prefer day games)….
BUT, if you are only going to go to one game, I guess you should go to Yankee Stadium for the history — The House That Ruth Built and all that stuff.
I mean, I love Shea. But it doesn’t have the baseball history of Yankee Stadium and I must admit Shea is not what I would call a beautiful stadium. Built in 1964 it is now kind of a dump (Beautiful new stadium taking its place in 2009)
Both neighborhoods are safe. And both are reachable by the subway. I don’t you can go wrong with either one.
(And I bet I gave you waaaay more info than you wanted!)
March 29th, 2007 at 5:14 pmI see great blessings in the future for Judge Walker. I just love individuals that continue to do God’s work. She will be a blessing to our Justice System. Satan is slowly being denied access to our government.

No you didn’t give too much info.

March 29th, 2007 at 5:46 pm#25, Actually, it is not that unusal for a temporary restraining order to be overturned relatively quickly. A TRO is an emergency, stop-gap measure that is by its very definition…well…temporary.
March 29th, 2007 at 5:46 pmExley, I am from Canada, out west, so my team is naturally the Blue Jays. Very tough to be in the division we are but the Jays are close. Last year pitching, middle innings and starting injuries was the downfall. We will see this year, the offense and defense should be good again and on paper our pitching looks good.
I also tend to cheer for Seattle (proximity!) and then Canadian players. And when the Jays are toast – which is every year since World Series winning years, I do cheer for the Yankees although I am not disappointed when they don’t finish it off.
March 29th, 2007 at 6:38 pmExley, in a few minutes we get our first game on TV , preseason but what the hell. Yankees vs Jays. Not sure who the teams will play but it is always a barometer playing the Yankees.

Judge Elrod is generally well-regarded by members of the bar in Houston, as the Houston Bar Association’s 2005 Judicial Evaluation Poll reveals. (Though she’s by no means as well-regarded as other district judges in Houston.) She’s reputed to be smart and fair. And quite frankly, I don’t think her ruling in the Hinn case is that great a cause for concern.
A problem for me, however, is her lack of experience. Judge Elrod has been a state trial judge since only 2002. She has not served on an appellate court at the state level, nor has she been a federal judge. That, combined with her involvement in the Federalist Society, give me reason to doubt the wisdom of this nomination. No more Priscilla Owens, please.

I very seldom watch televangelists, however I do know that you can’t compare Dr James Dobson to Benny Hinn. You may not agree with Dr Dobson, but he is an honorable man. If your information on Dr Dobson comes from Lakoff, you need to find someone a little more objective. I think we all know the problem isn’t stem cell research on embryos that were created for a pregnancy that becomes impossible or unwanted and will be destroyed. It’s that when that becomes legal, creating embryos for the purpose of experimentation will soon follow. And yes, many people feel that experimenting on human beings is a little more important than any piece of land anywhere.

Uninformed stereotypes aside, she’s a smart, Harvard-educated/former federal law clerk judge who has enough respect for the process to say that you can’t filch attorney-client protected information and use it the same way as you can use legitimately-obtained information (KTRK case). In the end, you have to abide by the rules that govern the judicial process, whether liberal or conservative. The attorney-client privilege is one of many such rules that every judge has to enforce, as it cuts both conservative and liberal at times.

Your assessment is incorrect. Dr Dobson isn’t racist, he just doesn’t believe whole groups of people should be given just enough money to get by and a dump of a place to live and kept beholden to the Dems because they think this is the best they will ever have. Homophobic? I assure yoou he doesn’t fear gays. He is concerned for their salvation and the effects of legitimizing a lifestyle choice that many in this country consider immoral. There are people in this country who hold different views than you and your S-P friends. I can’t address his views on global warming. He follows the Biblical tenet that the man is the head of the household and a man is to love and care for his wife as Jesus loved the church. This doesn’t mean a man is free to treat his wife badly. If you really think he advocates this, you are getting your info from a source other than Dr Dobson himself. Yes “diversity” and “multiculturalism “have been hijacked by the gay movenent. He doesn’t advocate beating children as you would well know if you read or listened to him instead of what Lakoff’s lies. He does advocate spanking if other forms of discipline haven’t worked. He is among the majority in this respect.

First of all, you can find someone to say anything. The source of this quote, “Focus On The Family damages more souls than they save. The Colorado Springs-based religious organization is responsible for destroying the faith of countless believers through their radio programs, videos and books.” is nothing more than one person’s opinion. His opinion means no more than yours or mine, he just happens to have created a website from which you can attach a link. I won’t comment on DeLay, he isn’t at issue here. I read the other link. Do you have a problem with this: “Dobson wants them (courts)to bend to the “will of the people,†they should also have their “franchise†revoked by the whim of Congress.”? The constitution didn’t say the courts were meant to circumvent the will of the people. They were meant to interpret the law. If it is interpreted in a manner other than what the legislation meant, then the legislation can be rewritten so that it must be intrepreted correctly. If judges continue to rule against the meaning of legislation, the congress has the authority to take action. Also, people had differing opinions about Teri Shiavo. It’s a very difficult issue. People agonized over the issue. Are you so callous as to attack him for his position? I sympathized with both her husband and her parents. I wouldn’t have dreamed of attacking either because they loved her and simply disagreed on what was best for someone they loved. People who disagree with Dr Dobson and Christian doctrine used to express their opinions in a civil manner. Unlike yours: “BillSh!t!!! Again!!!” And as for this, “BTW, my god can kick you gods ass!!”, there is only one God. And his patience has limits.

Why did this a$$wipe need 3, count’em 3, degrees in psychology to find his way in the world? Here’s why…he has demons in his soul that he couldn’t deal with intellectually so he ran for emotional cover at his nearest god-outlet. If he had been born in Iran he would be a terroist!!!! What is his demon? My guess, given his focus on homosexuals, that he’s a closet bi-sexual. That’s just my opinion. Unlike you though, I think for myself!!!

Jesus does NOT work through the rich and powerful. Explain this…why doesn’t Dobson just go out and preach and keep out of politics? Why does he INSIST on BEING a PHUCKING POLITICIAN??? AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL, NO LESS…wake up sheeple, the rich and powerful are phucking you everyday in everyway!!!

Get a CLUE!!!
March 31st, 2007 at 7:24 pmIf you are going to quote a source, do it correctly. This is what is actually on the site that you quoted, “Mr. Thompson has charged that in licensing the game, Tyndale House, publisher of his own book against video game violence as well as the Living Word Bible and several of Mr. Dobson’s titles on child-rearing, “has now become one of the mental molesters of minors for money.” The sentence says Tyndale House, not Dr Dobson, is harming children. As for your second question, Dr Dobson isn’t a politician. He runs a company dedicated to protecting family values. He holds no public office. He can hardly be expected to address every failing of every office holder and I don’t know of anyone other than you who would want him to. I’m not sure why you have such a problem with Dr Dobson having multiple degrees. You can’t get to a doctorate otherwise and having a doctorate is generally considered a good thing. There is no requirement that a person attend seminary in order to champion family values. Dr Dobson isn’t a pastor, but his knowledge of the Bible is extensive. I’m sure he would be the first to agree that there are many people whose knowledge is greater than his. Again, you don’t have to certify that your knowledge is greater than most in order to fight for family values. The Bible does say it is more difficult for the rich to get to heaven, meaning to those whom much has been given, much will be required. The Bible never says that God does not work through the rich and powerful. God can and does work through all kinds of people. The Old Testament is a book of laws. If you read your Bible, you will learn that Christians no longer live under that law due to the sacrifice that Jesus made when he died on the cross. John said: ‘For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ’ John 1:17, NIV.

I see you’re one of those à la carte Chritians. You want to pick and choose what is enforcable.
I’m sure that you quote Lev 18:22 to show that homosexuals are an abomination. Right? Well that’s old Moses law, right? I guess Jebus didn’t die for that law right? Just the other laws that are irrelevant in today’s world. It’s Christians like you and Dobson that give Christianity a black eye everytime you speak. You do nothing to promote Christianity in a positive light!!
Lev 25:44 says I can own slaves, male and female. That’s Moses law right?
Exodus 21:7 says I can sell my daughter into slavery.
Lev 11:10 says its an abomination to eat shell fish. Same as being gay, right?
Lev 19:27 makes clear that a male who trims his hair must die. That’s worst that just an abomination.
Lev 19:19 prohibits planting 2 crops in the same field.
Lev 21:20 makes clear that you cannot approach the alter of the lord if you have a defect in your vision.
You see how ridiculous the above is and yet you and Dobson cling to that Lev 18:22 passage as solid proof that god hates homosexuals. This is why Dobson is a charleton and a jerk. He is inconsistant in his view of the old testament.
You and Dobson give Christianity a bad name. Dobson is a politician because he spends most of his time, influence and money promoting the Repugniscum party. Most peachers minister. Dobson brainwashes. That’s why he lusted for a PhD in psychology so badly. The bible doesn’t promote brainwashing. Like I said, the conned are the last to know they are conned.

I do really hope that Dobson keeps running his mouth and supporting the Repugniscums. That way he will lose his 501(c)(3) status. His money will dry up in a heart phucking beat because his supporters lose their charitable donation deduction on their taxes…just like Jimbo Bakker…keep talking Dobson…keep talking CC…you might become a material witness to tax fraud!!!!
April 1st, 2007 at 4:13 pmCC,
Dobson is very close to becoming an illegal, unregistered 527 group also!!!
Wow, he loves power more than his baby Jebus!!! Of couse I knew that all along. I was raised among the charletons and Elmer Gantrys. I can spot a Jebus bullsh!t artist from “40 acres and a mule” away!!!
April 1st, 2007 at 5:13 pmI see you’re one of those à la carte Chritians.
You seem to be very angry that the way you choose to live contradicts God’s word. I see no reason for you to attack me because you are mad at God. Your words appear to show that you know very well why we don’t have to keep some of the rules of the Old Testament. The coming of Jesus didn’t negate the sins of the Old Testament and that seems to make you furious. You can rail against Christians all you want, it won’t change what you know in your heart is true and right.
Dobson brainwashes. That’s why he lusted for a PhD in psychology so badly.
I’m not sure how you come to the conclusion that he “lusted” for a PhD. Does that mean that everyone who has earned a PhD has “lusted” for it? Each one of them would probably say that they worked for it rather than “lusted” for it. Again, this statement seems to say you are very angry that Dr Dobson hits a nerve because you know you are trying to justify wrong behavior.
keep talking Dobson…keep talking CC…you might become a material witness to tax fraud!!!!

I’m certain I’m safe from this possibility and confident that Dr Dobson is too, absent any proof otherwise. I am very sorry that you seem so tortured about your choices in life. I pray that you find peace.
April 1st, 2007 at 11:23 pmI pray that you find peace.

April 2nd, 2007 at 6:06 pmCheck back to #47. You first addressed me because I refuted someone’s attack on Dr Dobson. You then attacked him, too. If you would now like to leave him out, fine. As I said, your words show that you a troubled. The fact that you attack God’s word so strenously and those who follow him is very telling. I’m sorry you are filled with such hatred. If this was not the case, then you could discuss issues and address people in a civil manner. You simply attack.

I don’t attack “gods” word, I attack your stupid interpretation of “gods” word. Of course, you’re too brain washed to know that!!! HATRED? JEBUS!! GOD INVENTED HATE IN YOUR BIBLE!!!! YOUR PH*CKED UP VIEW OF GOD INCLUDES MORE HATE THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY KNOW.
BTW, answer my previous observation that you don’t know shit about my life. But, you JUDGED!!! Is that what Jebus would do???

If you’re referring to my assumption that you are living your life in a manner that you know is contrary to God’s word, that isn’t a judgement, it is an inference. Granted I could be completely mistaken and you are doing nothing of the sort. I came to that conclusion due to your harsh invective. If you refer to the fact that this lifestyle is sinful, that is not my judgement, it is the word of God. I would be judging you if I said you were an evil person and you will go to hell if you practice the above referenced lifestyle. I didn’t say that to you, nor have I ever said that to anyone. It’s not my place. It is not judgement to discuss what the Bible says is morally wrong.
April 2nd, 2007 at 7:25 pmYou also never explained where I look up that thing about Jebus died for some sins and nullified most of Moses’s law, but, not all. Where do I look up that Leviticus (some sins count and others are covered) text in the Bible? You know that “cutting hair” thing and calling homosexsuals worst yet? As you know from the Bible, being gay is abominable yet cutting your hair is a death sentence in Leviticus. Explain or go away!!!
Who decided which parts of Leviticus you enforce and where do I find that info in the the Bible?? You have completely waltzed past every question I have posed to you so far and expect nothing less now? Jebus has already answered me on these issues. I just want to compare your answers with the truth!!! It’s what I do to seperate the “wheat from the chaff”.

How ’bout that ‘I’ll pray for” insult you delivered!!! AS I SAID MAYBE YOU NEED TO BE PRAYED FOR? YOU DO KNOW THAT YOU INSULTED ME, RIGHT???
AND YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT EVERY PH*CKING TIME YOU SAY THAT TO SOMEONE YOU INSULT THE PH*CK OUT OF THEM!!!!!
IF YOU HAD A HEART AND A BRAIN WE WOULDN’T BE HERE RIGHT NOW WOULD WE???
April 2nd, 2007 at 7:47 pmIt’s not my place. It is not judgement to discuss what the Bible says is morally wrong.

So you have no beliefs…just dogma from Dobson!!!
April 2nd, 2007 at 7:50 pmI don’t not consider an offer to pray for someone an insult. I tell my friends regularly that I will pray for them and ask them to pray for me. If you offered to pray for me, I assure you I would not consider it an insult. I would, however, wonder what you would be praying for since every reference you’ve made to me has been hateful. My church has a prayer ministry solely for the purpose of praying for members and anyone they request prayer for, our country and its leaders, our world in general and the lost in particular. I don’t see how that is insulting by any stretch of the imagination.
So you have no beliefs…just dogma from Dobson!!!
Comment by dixie blood — April 2, 2007 @ 7:50 pm
I’m not sure where this comes from. I specifically said, “It is not judgement to discuss what the Bible says is morally wrong.” I’ve not mentioned anything Dr Dobson says, only defended his character.

The context of your words are very important. You said you would pray for me as if I was wrong and you were right!!!
CONTEXT!!!
You have no HEART!! or SOUL!!
Boogey, boogey, whammy jammy and double, trouble whammy!!!
There. I just “prayed” for you in a good way, right?
April 2nd, 2007 at 8:32 pmCC,
#1: I’m feeling sad.
#2: I’ll pray for you.
————– your judgemental shit follows
#1: I know Dobson lies to his followers concerning verifiable scientific studies that he misrepresents.
#2: You’re wrong and delusional, I’ll pray for you. (This is the Dobson/Intolerance Prayer) It’s an insult!!!
AND THAT IS HOW “I’LL PRAY FOR YOU” IS A PHUCKING INSULT IN CERTAIN CONTEXT. YOU KNOW THAT. DON’T PLAY STUPID NOW!!!
April 2nd, 2007 at 8:52 pmYes, Dixie, I am sad that any human being lives with such unrelenting hatred in them. It’s one thing to disagree with a particular issue or view point, but you are way beyond that. My defense of Dr Dobson to another poster started this. Obviously this is going nowhere, so I’ll leave it at that. Your views are more likely to be taken seriously if you learn to disagree without being disagreeable.
April 3rd, 2007 at 12:17 amCompare Mother Theresa to Dobson!!! Dobson is a con-man!!!
