The truth is that alQaeda is fairly weak in Iraq: the principle fighters are nationalists, former Baath party members, sectarian members (either Sunni or Shia), some alQaeda imports (although the Christian Science Monitor reports that they're playing a decreasing role), and small factions of freedom fighters who simply want the American occupation army, which is guilty of rape, murder, and torture, to be driven from the country. And frankly, it is largely Bush's fault that the insurgency is so successful; huge Iraqi munitions depots were left unguarded during the invasion and allowed to fall into the hands of local militia. The problem with talking point trolls like Jake is that they politicize the system in the same manner that Gonzales politicized the Justice Dept. We know what the Pentagon thought about invading Iraq: It was a bad idea. They went in with inadequate numbers and inadequate armor and no occupation plan. Trolls like Jake can't plead ignorance: this was all common knowledge if you listened to the folks in uniform. It was the civilian chickenhawks who were all full of optimistic blarney about being "home by Christmas". There were no WMD and Saddam didn't even have a nuclear program set up. None. And Saddam would have been eager to rejoin America's side in the war on terror. But no, Bush decided to embrace the crazy colonel in Libya instead. Clausewitz said War is politics by other means.
