“Rev. Jesse Jackson today denounced the Congressional Black Caucus Institute’s planned presidential debate partnership with FOX. He called for yesterday’s decision to be reversed and for presidential candidates not to attend a FOX debate.” Jackson said, “Why would presidential candidates, or an organization that is supposed to advocate for Black Americans, ever give a stamp of legitimacy to a network that continually marginalizes Black leaders and the Black community?” Take action HERE.
UPDATE: Markos has a round-up of commentary, and notes: “I’ll be asking the campaigns early next week whether they plan on attending this debate, so this time they won’t be caught off guard by the question.”
So, the REVEREND Jackson is sacred just like Edwards. Good thing those TuskGEEkee boys weren’t as scared!
March 30th, 2007 at 1:39 pmJesse hit the nail right on the head. Thanks, Jesse.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:40 pmI am with Jesse Jackson > CBC is stupid to have a debate on FOX news network. He needs to tell his son Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. to throw a fit about it in front of the other CBC membership.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:42 pmI don’t think it is a matter of fear Jake. I just wish Fox would call itself Fox Opinion channel. They just need to quit with the charade of being a balanced news organization.
At least that way, people would understand what they are getting into when they tune in.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:43 pmSo, the REVEREND Jackson is sacred just like Edwards
Sacred Jake? What would G*d think of you saying that?
March 30th, 2007 at 1:44 pmJake-EEE-poo…always off topic…always with the insane talking points…always screaming, “It’s all about me and what I think!!!”
March 30th, 2007 at 1:44 pmThank God someone has the courage to stand up to these Republic666an lackeys
March 30th, 2007 at 1:44 pmSeriously, though. I can’t understand why the CBC would treat Fox like it’s a legitimate news station. Have they never watched it? It boggles the mind.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:46 pmShutting out FOX doesn’t make ANYONE “scared”. It means people are finally starting to do what they ALWAYS should have: call out FOX as a propaganda machine and NOT a legitimate news source. No need to have a supposedly NUETRAL debate on a right-wing propaganda outlet. Thats the bottom line.
If anything it finally shows that Dems are NOT scared of FOX anymore and are fighting fire with fire. I say GOOD FOR THEM and hopefully the CBC pulls their collective heads out of their a$$ and drops FOX as a debate sponsor too.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:46 pmOn one hand I agree with Jesses Jackson and others that believe this. On the other I think you should always confront those that rail against you……but confronting FOX and those that watch FOX is like arguing with Jake. You might as well talk to a fence post.
So at the end of it, I say they should give FOX the chance to seem legitimate.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:47 pmSon-of-a…….I meant they “should not give FOX a chance”

It’s wonderful that you believe that the Reverend Jackson is sacred (and John Edwards, too? Wow. I’d never have guessed you hold him in such reverence.)
But really, Jake, this is the 21st century. Calling a group of heroic black Americans “boys” is a little low even for you.

Boys? You racist piece of white trash pile of sh*t.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:52 pmFirst question asked during the Fox Noise Democratic debate:
“Why do you hate America and not support the troops?”
What a travesty.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:53 pmSo, the “Ignore List” is O.K. for you guys to use?
March 30th, 2007 at 1:54 pmSecond question asked:
“Senator Obama, why aren’t you black enough?”
March 30th, 2007 at 1:54 pmCrump’s Brother:
Should CBS News change to CBS Opinion too?
P.S. sacred = scared
boys = men
March 30th, 2007 at 1:56 pmForget racial bias. Does anyone think a debate on Fox News will be at all impartial? Who in their right mind would agree to such a debate. Even the Republicans should be distancing themselves from them because the public perception is slowly turning Fox into a propaganda channel. It would even be in the Republicans best interests to slap down Fox News whenever they get the chance. Then they would at least get points for having single-digit IQs.
March 30th, 2007 at 1:57 pm“(and John Edwards, too? Wow. I’d never have guessed you hold him in such reverence.)”
it’s a nice change from the other day:

March 30th, 2007 at 1:58 pmThird question at the CBC Fox “News” debate:
“George W. Bush, great president or greatest president ever?”
March 30th, 2007 at 1:59 pmJesse is so right on here. A decision to partake in fox only equates to putting money in their pockets. Why would any minority organization stoop so low? Fox is continually “in their face” and you would think that they would have had enough of that agenda.
March 30th, 2007 at 2:00 pmJesse Jackson is absolutely right. Any candidate, or anyone for that matter, only lowers their standards when having any dealings with that dog and pony show called Fox. Such a circus but I must admit, it does entertain that 30% of idiots.

Going on FauxNews is done with false bravado, I fear. The problem is that they’re never going to simply present a debate, even if they provide acceptable moderators. They’ll just use the debate as a source of heavily-edited clips to ridicule the participants for weeks to follow. Pundit comments after political debates is execrable even on the major networks, but with Faux there will be a feeding frenzy of “analysis” by morons like Sean and Bill.

March 30th, 2007 at 2:06 pmFox “whatever” news doesn’t know the meaning of journalism. More than likely they will turn the debate into a crusade against the Dems. Remember, “dog rove” is in charge and we all know that the Republicans want absolute power (body, mind and soul) over America.

March 30th, 2007 at 2:09 pmJake,
Comparing CBS to Fox isn’t a good analogy. I would compare Fox to Air America Radio. Difference being, Air America is honest about what it is. It’s an opinion based medium.
Air America has actually offered to co-host debates with Fox. So far Fox has declined. Is Fox scared?
March 30th, 2007 at 2:14 pmAimee:
Ever since the League of Women Voters got out of Presidential Debates, the campaigns run the show anyways — that what it has become now, a dog and pony show — what is wrong with airing the show on Fox News?
March 30th, 2007 at 2:17 pmJake,
I think your analogy of Fox and CBS to be off. What would be a better analogy would be Fox and Air America Radio. The difference being that Air America isn’t hiding what it really is.
Air America has actually offered to co-host some debates with Fox and as far as I’m aware, Fox has declined. Are they scared too?
March 30th, 2007 at 2:23 pmhere’s another point of view…what better way to show everyone how biased Fox News is concerning African Americans than by doing this debate. Why not put them on the spot and force them to reveal themselves? I’m just playing devil’s advocate here and looking at this from an opposite viewpoint…
March 30th, 2007 at 2:26 pmSpudge_Boy,
I think you framed the question incorrectly the question is: The greatest president ever, or the greatest president ever?
Their “questions” much like our own Republic666an trolls here are not framed for answers, they are purely rhetorical and framed to make a statement.

March 30th, 2007 at 3:12 pmJesse Jackson Denounces Debate On FOX
Friday 30th of March 2007
by Jay Randal
Rev. Jesse Jackson has denounced the planned debate, by Congressional Black Caucus Institute, with FOX news network to host a presidential forum this year.
The CBC has made a bad decision to partnership with bigoted FOX corporation and Democrats nationwide are furious about the relationship to host any debate.
FOX is a GOP affiliated mouthpiece, and propaganda network, so the CBC associating with FOX is putrid and pisses-off the core/base of the Democratic party.
Most Democrats want FOX to be boycotted, and lose their broadcasting license as well, since FOX tends to prop-up the Bush Regime and the Iraq Fiasco War.
The CBC leadership would be wise to reverse decision on partnership with FOX, and call for the network to be shut down, and for Rupert Murdoch to be deported.
CBC members must cancel any association with FOX!
( Jay Randal, political activist and writer in Georgia, USA.)
March 30th, 2007 at 3:15 pmDailykos has an excellent post up that shows why Faux News-sponsored debates should be ignored by Democratic candidates.

It’s pretty easy to see from these questions posed to presidential candidates in 2003.

Why are you disturbed by this move on behalf of the CBC and Fox News. Is it because Fox News degrades rappers (they’re acts are immoral and despicable)? Is it because Fox doesn’t believe in the disenfranchisement of potential African American voters who state that they can’t afford to purchase an indentification card/drivers license worth $1-$5 (Get a job/stop spending money on worthless items)? Is is because they continue to embarass Uncle Jessie (Fraud)? Is it because Fox has no sympathy for N.O. residents because they chose not to leave before the hurricane (They were warned about the hurricane 4 days before it occured)? These are issues that needed to be tackled, and I’m glad that Fox is one of the few stations that decided to address these issues. I thank God everyday for Fox News.

Well if you believe I’m an oreo, then it’s true. I carry myself as a gentlemen even though I’m young (25). I refuse to act like a rufian/hooligan. Also, I’m neither black/african american. I’m an american. That is my nationality.

March 30th, 2007 at 4:16 pmFor the african americans (politically correct) blogging on this post, I hope you realize that democrats are not with you, they’re laughing at you. Have you noticed in the House and Senate that caucasian (politically correct) Democrats do not conversate nor sit near the black caucus? Also, Democrats created welfare while Republicans abolished slavery. My father would tell me stories about the 50’s and 60’s. During that timeframe african americans were eager to receive a good education. Numerous african american businesses existed within our neighborhoods. We took pride in the way we carried ourselves during that timeframe, but Democrats didn’t want to see our community become successful because they felt that we would demise the caucasian community. So to destroy are community they created welfare, which was posed as reparations fto our community. Now, look where we are today. We’re struggling. All it takes is for a Democrat to eat a church chicken dinner with you or to hold hands with you during prayer and your vote has been officially converted to the Democratic party. They’re only collaborating with our community for political gain. Once they’re voted in, they ignore the issues in our community. Republicans want to ensure that we receive a good education and that we become upstanding citizens. We do not sugarcoat anything. We want you to become successful citizens. Ms. Rice and Colin Powell should be an example for you. Join the GOP
March 30th, 2007 at 4:17 pmDemocrats want black people to be poor, dumb and to be victims. That way democrats can lie and say vote for us,we will take care of you.Than blacks vote for democrats, and democrats do nothing to help them.
March 30th, 2007 at 4:28 pmDaryll > LOL the GOP represents corruption and intollerance, so wise up. Many of us are mad at the leadership of the Democratic party, but we would join the Greens before the GOP.
March 30th, 2007 at 4:30 pm“Numerous african american businesses existed within our neighborhoods. We took pride in the way we carried ourselves during that timeframe,”
Daryll, early you said you weren’t African American but here you include yourself in that group. The least you can do is be consistent.

Imus isn’t the real bad guy
Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture.
By JASON WHITLOCK
Columnist
Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem.
You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality.
You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor.
Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.
The bigots win again.
While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos.
I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas.
It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent.
Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves.
It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud.
I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack.
But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$.
I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed.
Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had.
Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage.
But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction.
In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive?
I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do?
When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim.
No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out.

You people are the reason America is going down hill. Do the black kids not get to go to the same schools as the white kids??? What about the NAACP, is it a racist organization? What about the United Negro College Funds, can a white kid get that? Miss Black America? Black Colleges? BET? Black Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, SC? All of these RACIST names are ok because it is for the Black Folks right?? But yet anything with a white man or woman race in it is considered racist.
April 14th, 2007 at 10:34 amYeah we are all equal, until you see college football or basketball. Yeah we are all equal till you go to a courtroom. Yeah we are all equal till you go to your local health department and see the women without men there beside them. Yeah Jessie Jackson is such a great American hero till you ride through the “GOVERMENT” apartments named after him in Greenville,SC and look at the drug dealers and prostitutes or if you read the local paper and see where they get arrested. Get your facts straight before you even attempt to try and glorify The “so called” Reverend Jackson.
