“Walter Reed is not a photo-op,”

By Faiz Shakir on Mar 30th, 2007 at 12:07 pm

“Walter Reed is not a photo-op,”

said Veterans for America’s Bobby Muller, in reference to President Bush’s visit today to the army medical center. He said Bush isn’t going to see areas of the hospital most in need of change. “Walter Reed is still broken. The DoD health care system is still broken. … Our troops need their commander in chief to start working harder for them.”

UPDATE: Not a photo-op, except when it is:

  1. Crump's Brother says:

Has there been a world leader that has used their military for photo ops more often than this guy?

    Maybe Kim Jong Il
Or Saddam….. Historically, Hitler did it as did Moussolini.

    It’s just a propoganda tool.

    Nice list to be on

  2. Jake says:

Now does he know that Bush isn’t going to see areas of the hospital most in need of change? Do the Secret Service know where Mr. Muller is today?

  3. ∞Ω says:

    Heckofajob,Chimpy!

  4. Parrotlover77 says:

The Photo-Op president. That’ll be the name he’s second most recognized by 20 years from now. That after a complete disaster and/or worst president ever.

  5. patrick1's wife says:

put jake on you “ignore list”

  6. Kiki says:

Everything is a photo op for this bunch.

  7. Ben Dover says:

Our troops need their commander in chief to start working harder for them

Unfortunately for the kids there now, this persons quote wont take effect until January 20, 2009, when President Al Gore is making decisions. Until then, the souls injured in response to Bush’s lies will have to continue sleeping in their own urine, and continue being used as photo ops while the man-child struts around talking about smokin out and gettin turists.

    Robots! Flying monkeys!

  9. Rebel in CA says:

“… Our troops need their commander in chief to start working harder for them.””

HE IS! Shrub is working very hard for our troops. He makes sure they do not have adequate body armour, are travelling around in humvees that are sub-par for battle, and intends to maime or kill as many as he can in this phoney war, and the next one with Iran

Meanwhile, Dick and his oil buddies make billions in oil revenue (Gas is at $3.60/gallon as of this a.m. up 60 cents since January)

  10. Kay says:

Photo of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove, Powell etc. tried for War Crimes : Priceless!

  11. Taguba says:

But Bush loves the troops; Loves the troops to have only one arm or leg. What a tool this guy is.

  12. AkaDad says:

“Walter Reed is not a photo-op”

    The President disagrees…

  13. Jake says:

Sorry, that first question should have been “HOW does he know that Bush isn’t going to see areas of the hospital most in need of change?”

  14. Zooey says:

I want to see a picture of Chimpy in Bldg 18 — in an orange jumpsuit and leg irons.

  15. Sharon says:

Good Morning Ben Dover, good post…I take exception to the last few word’s of the this thread’s interduction ” Our troop’s need their commander in chief to work harder for them”..When has bull shit bush ever worked for the troop’s, our country, constitution or the world.?…Never…It’s alway’s been for profit, control and corruption with in his tiny circle of wealthy associates…The worst president ever in the history of our country and when history look’s on this evil little man and all his cohort’s I would bet he will pass all the most evil dictators ever written about…The shame and distruction will surely follow his family line forever…The burden’s left behind for the next president and the american public is going to be staggering….We realy do have a lot of work to do..First off, ridding our country of all this evil from the neo-con’s…..I have to take my dear to the vet’s so will be gone most of the day…Keep up the good fight and have a pleasent day….Blessings

  16. Rick says:

Yesterday’s news accounts said he would be presenting Purple Hearts to wounded soldiers. That sounds like a photo-op to me…….I can only hope that at least one of them throws it in his face…..

  17. Sharon says:

Me to, Lady Z, me to…Blessings

  18. Spudge_Boy says:

I bet Bush shows up in a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He might even have it buttoned straight this time.

  19. Jay Randal says:

Bush uses everything as a photo-op, because he has zero morality. He is the most disgusting president who has ever existed in our America.

    Comment by Jay Randal

Since 2000 Bush doesnt get to decide anything concerning US government. He is just the dummy face in front of microphones, like Ronald Reagan or worst, and the actual leaders of the US, tell him what to say. Think for a second what would happen if you put a drug addict and ignorant to decide the fate of your company.

The owners of corporations dont play games, they use any idiot as president so people can say: Wow, I like that guy, he is like me, etc.

  21. Evil Spaniard says:

“Walter Reed is not a photo-op,”

    These aren’t the droids you’re searching for…

Lame jedi trick, specially if you’re not jedi.

  22. DutchHenry says:

How stunning it is to think that this repuke idiot in the WH thinks that just by making an appearance at Walter Reed Medical Center the problem disappears.Really shows how little Repukes think of Americans.

  23. theswan says:

The commander in ….? could just close his eyes when the passed through a disaster area.

  24. Tobey Tall says:

The guilty Bush returns to the victims of his crimes

  25. chimpeach says:

Caption: “Yeah, Ah sprained m’thumb one time. Hurt like the dickens. Heh-heh. Heh. Hey, got a nickname for ya. How ’bout if I call ya Mr. Roboto. Heh-heh.”

  26. pgw says:

“The Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), a provider of operational support to several Department of Defense agencies, has hired a PR agency on behalf of the President’s Commission on Care for Americas’ Returning Wounded Warriors in the aftermath of the controversy that has erupted over conditions at Walter Reed hospital.”

because the real problem is the public’s perception.

  27. sara swati says:

This foto is seconds AFTER the vet actually tried a right hook to chimpies nose. Nice catch, you ol’ Shrubberooney!

Seriously, would you really want to shake the hand that shot your arm off?

  28. veritas says:

The caption should read: Smirking Chimp Shakes Hands with a True Patriot!

  29. Phil says:

So it shouldn’t be a photo op when democrats go there to.

  30. jeff says:

  31. Gregor Samsa says:

Well, if the entire the Gulf coast was a photo-op, why not use one building in one medical center.

Pres Bush hasn’t done much for New Orleans, so I wouldn’t get my hopes too high regarding Walter Reed.

    What an absolute disgrace.

  32. JaneESchneider says:

because the real problem is the public’s perception.

    Comment by pgw — March 30, 2007 @ 2:24 pm

Exactly. Why else waste money that could be used for the troops on a PR firm? Everything is perception to this administration because they know nothing about reality.

  33. Marc Sterling says:

Think progress should consider running Bush photos with the old black banner over his eyes like the used to do in prono movies in the 1950’s – that way you can run the photo op photo without actually being part of the great photo op publicity campaign… sort of a nice way of censoring all these Bush photo ops…

    It’s a style thing…

  34. SKdeA says:

33, then we wouldn’t have to look into the dark abyss that is his (debateably existent) soul…

  35. PBR says:

How can the young man pictured with chimpy, resist the urge to kick monkeyboy in the nuts?

  36. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Bush is definitely looking the “Dorian Grey” story in reverse. I’m struck at how much he’s aged in perhaps the last year or so.

  37. John M, USAF, RET says:

Being retired military, I have one and only one feeling: OFFENSE. How can this AWOL chickenhawk use my brothers like this

  38. Marie says:

For a guy who defended his not visiting the wounded of the war because he couldn’t single out anyone, or be accused of photo ops — when it serves him to get a picture in the papers of the compassionate one visiting young people he has condemned to a life of disability, he is the exploiter in chief.

  39. Marie says:

If one of those wounded soldiers spit in the commander’s face, it would be a real photo op, but that would guarantee that the soldier would never get the health care and benefits he deserves.

  40. cee says:

Wow he finally shows up and he doesn’t seem that upset.

  42. cynthia says:

Later, Bush told repoorters, ” Before this war these soldiers were disadvantaged with their 20 year old limbs. Now, I’d say that with these new arms and hands things are working out quite well for them.”

  43. Com-n-sense says:

On the day it’s confirmed that bush knew about the circumstances of Pat Tillman’s death and lied to Pat’s family and the American people for his own political gain, he’s doing photo-ops with wounded veterans.

Does this man know no shame?

  44. WaltTheMan says:

    #43 – Com-n-sense,
That’s easy – Not an ounce.

  45. Eargy Earp says:

    Not a photo op.

Well it sure as hell was today.

  46. Toby says:

If the soldier was deluded enough to Want to shake the deciders hand, then he would have used the one he can feel (provided he didn’t “sacrifice” that one too).

  47. Where’s the Outrage? » Their are injured soldiers Mr. President says:

[...] weeks after the Walter Reed scandal broke our President went over to Walter Reed to check things out for himself.  I’m sure that [...]
