It gets better. He says he was trying to raise the cash because David Horowitz wants to send him to Iraq as an embedded reporter. At least this is what I was able to sort out from reading his blog and comments posted on a Military Times message board.

It’s so convoluted. In the article he denies the allegations, but on his blog he admits U-Haul and the UWVC wanted to give him money, but he never collected it. Why would they offer him $12,000 if he never asked for it? And what role did David Horowitz play in this bogus deployment story?

please correct COL to CPL–there is a huge difference! A Colonel (COL) is a very senior officer–usually with >15 years active duty time and much leadership responsibility. This would be even more scandalous if he were a senior officer. A Corporal is a junior enlisted rank–someone right out of highschool with just a few years at most in the Marines.

In any case–active duty personnel are specifically forbidden to align themselves publicly with political causes, especially in uniform–so there are major problems here even before the “second job” came to light!
