Bush will hold a Rose Garden press conference

today at 10 am to slam Congress’ efforts to push a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. CNN’s White House correspondent Elaine Quijano reports:

President Bush is showing no signs of blinking in his opposition to any kind of timetable for U.S. troop withdrawals in Iraq. And essentially, Soledad, that’s the message we expect to hear once more from the President today when he delivers remarks in the Rose Garden.

    ………..not another “I’m the decider moment”….?

  5. profmarcus says:

i’m debating whether or not to watch on cnn pipeline from here in argentina… bush gives me severe stomach cramps… plus, you know it will only be an attack on the democrats… he won’t propose any positive course of action other than “my way or the highway…” what a loser…

And, yes, I DO take it personally

  6. klyde says:

This should be good. Will he be able to string together 2 coherent sentences?

  7. MrBlueSky says:

    “Freedom’s on the march!”

    Just gotta “Stay the Course!”

Who needs to watch it? We know what he’s going to say… just another reiteration of tired old platitudes he’s been uttering for more than 4 years now!

  8. AboveTheClouds says:

An unpopular President standing firmly behind his failed policy of an unpopular war.

  9. truthfairy says:

    cant reason with an idiot

  10. geoman77 says:

“Press Conference?” Does this mean he’ll be taking questions? Wow, they must really be getting worried and desperate.

  11. Attaturk says:

    Let’s see:

    “Surge is working”
    “We’re making progress”
    “Evildoers”
    “Things are better”
    “Baghdad is safer”
“Ah’m the Commander-in-Chief” (it says so on mah jackets)
    “9/11″
    “9/11″
    “Working, is the surge”
“Telling ‘the enemy’ when were leaving”
“Ah want mah money in a clean bill”
    “Gregory”
“Thanks for that softball Mike Allen”

There, no need to watch it now, those are all the things that will be said.

  12. tarazan says:

While the military forces in Iraq still called a ‘Multi National force’…the fact is that it is mainly American.

    Where is Europe,and other countries?

England provided 7100 troops and withdrew 1/3 of them, and the next few months it will be ‘mission used to be’ for England and other countries.

What happened to the ‘Coalition Of The Willing’

How many countries are still ‘willing’ ?!!

  13. mark my words says:

Really, the more he talks the further down his numbers go. It is not like he wins any of these battles.

The Dems need to frame this as a spoiled rich kid who isn’t happy with his allowance.

  14. AboveTheClouds says:

Will history look back on the failed Bush presidency in the same light as Ronald Reagan and forgive his short-comings because “we liked him?” I doubt it. Bush has staked his legacy on the advice of Karl Rove, Don Rumsfeld, and Richard Perle.

  15. enaud says:

aWol has been having to do a lot more ’splainin’ lately. This is looking like some kind of showdown. Getting good, but scary.

  16. Perry Logan says:

The unelected traitor gives a talk from the Rose Garden. We’ll have to have those roses sprayed.

  17. Zep Tepi says:

They should issue rose colored glasses as people enter the rose garden.

[Cue music; I never promised you a rose Garden.]

    Cue; Stay the Course

  18. Raven says:

    Even CNN’s title is telling:

“pResident Busch REMARKS from the Rose Garden”

Such is all the weight of importance his utterances will carry, nothing more than a passing remark on the wheels of destiny as they roll over his sorry carcass…

  19. Bush voters, sorry yet? says:

Couldn’t he just use the “internets” and send us a memo. Every time he gets on TV I hang my head in shame and wonder how so many of my countrymen and women could have been so dumb.

  20. Ohioan says:

Bush: “Send me a Clean Bill! Without all the dirty pork money for New Orleans rebuilding, body armor and Walter Reed painting… “

  21. TripMaster Monkey says:

I wonder if any of the press is going to ask about ‘Operation Bite‘.

We’re closing in on April 6th, and this rumor is only picking up steam. If General Ivashov is actually advocating an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, I’m thinking there has to be some substance to this. Hopefully the amount of publicity ‘Operation Bite’ has already received will convince the Powers-That-Be to call it off (if indeed, it really was *on* to begin with).

  22. Ben Dover says:

Its unfortunate that while American kids continue to die almost daily because of this cretin’s failed policy, he still thinks that going on TV, thumping his chest, getting a dribble of testosterone to trickle into his veins, and talking like a tough guy will get America to believe him.

I remember in 2002 emailing Bush and retelling the story of the “boy who cried wolf” in which I suggested that his constant threats of there being a “turist” behind every tree would soon wear thin and he’d lose his credibility. He never listened and thats exactly what happened. Now his only recourse (the only thing thats worked in the last 6 long years) is to go on TV and slam his dissenters. Yawn. Scratch. What a delusional son of a bitch. Is it January 20, 2009, yet?

  23. Sharon says:

Damn, well atleast I can get my second cup of coffee down before the fool start’s his speel of lies and threat’s….

I’ll take one for the team and listen to the idiot, as usual…Have found it wiser to listen to his lies than not….

Think one of the reasons he is so hot is he has used and taken all the fund’s thus far and squandered so much there’s no money left to bomb the crap out of Iran and Syria..Can’t have endless war’s and madness with no money ya know…

Geees I hate what these evil doer’s are doing….Blessings all, please send healing thought’s out to RUCerious and all in need today….

  24. Dumb_Fox says:

Dem response, hopefully: No timetable, no money.

    Your move, Chimpo.

  25. ohboy says:

I hope he calls Congress evildoers and unpatriotic terrorists just to help the impeachment ball rolling.

  26. Big Picnic » Blog Archive » Bush to Hold Another Petulent, Defensive Press Conference says:

[...] what I assume is an effort to build public support for Democrats, Bush will hold a press conference to attack their withdrawal [...]

  27. Zooey says:

    Oh goody.

    **eyes rolling**

Ya’ll make sure to shred him while I’m at school, ok? I’ll need a good laugh by the time I get home. Oy.

  28. Ranger Jay says:

I can’t wait for him to utter these remarks:

    Victory
    Defeat
    Terrists [sic]
    9/11
    War
    Al Kada [sic]
    Support the troops
    Commander in chief
    Surge is working
    Democracy
    Iraqi people
    Aiding the enemy
    Veto

I hope he assumes his usual tone of arrogance when he speaks today, ’cause I find it SO entertaining.

  29. Pres. W. Botch says:

    Preemptive Transcript;

See [smirk] I beg your pardon.
I never promised you a rose garden.
I promised to capture Osama Bin Laden
See [Smirk] about him I have forgotten
I never promised you diamond rings
But oil wells and resourceful things
Look If we only stay the course
Perhaps we’ll have that Oil bourse
See [smirk] we have to retain our force
    Democracy and purple fingers
Look, decades more we must linger
    We must try another surge
    See, Democracy we must urge
Look, We cannot issue a parting date
There is too much oil on the slate
Freedom is just around the bend
    More troops we must send
See I am the war President
No one tells me whats evident
Look [smirk] I am the decider
And we need more cannon fodder

  30. inmymind'seye says:

A Rose Garden address is a formal setting for the shrub to simply make a remark that’s been made previously. I’m suspiscious and thinking maybe he addresses a hotter topic. The Iran hostages, or something to do with Iran?
Holy shit, here we go ….

  31. Kay says:

Maybe he’ll be drunk and say : “Ann Coulter is my dominatrix”

  32. s says:

Addicts don’t blink as long as they can shoot up, drink, or bomb people. They only blink when they hit bottom and are lying in the gutter with no fix in sight. I love it how Bush thinks he is strong. What a joke. He’s just screwed …..and so are we! It’s so easy for people in DEEP denial to look confident and consistent. His life is the exact opposite of the examined life. This – http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/30/72159/0420 – holds no interest, importance, or resonance for him. Watch the YouTube. He is completely cut off from the reality of this little boy in the clip as well his actions demonstrate day after day. And we as a poeple, having been so spoiled in many ways for so long, better start examing what this country ( and each one of us ) is going to be about or we’re all going down with Mr. Let them eat cake.

  33. Pres. W. Botch says:

Hey TP that was a good poem I wrote, what are you guys now supporters of this buffoonery?

    PUT IT BACK!!!

  34. Pres. W. Botch says:

Friggin feck you guys need to fix that filter fairy once and for all.

    SO long TP.

  35. Zooey says:

    Pres W Botch,

My poetry and songs never make it either.
    They’re not even that naughty.

  36. Zooey says:

Will someone please keep track of how many times the Chimp grabs the front of the podium, and makes that exasperated sound he makes when he’s not feeling the love?

I’l watch the thing later if I have to, but I’m hoping I won’t have to ruin my afternoon that way. :P

  37. Kay says:

This man and his regime makes me want to puke. And the fact that we all have to look at this evil face another 657 days makes me even sicker.

  38. trueblue says:

    Ah, Gee…

Do I haveta watch it for you, Zooey?
    :P

  39. Kay says:

  40. Ben Dover says:

I have to commend Zooey and Sharon for having the fortitude to not only watch the chimp but volunteer to do so! Talk about going above and beyond the call. To me his voice makes me react the way I reacted in grade school when someone dragged their fingernails on a chalk board.

  41. firehead says:

All of your rabid hatred and obsession with Bush is disgusting, you Bush bashers.

You punks don’t have a clue how to protect America.

  42. Zooey says:

Do I haveta watch it for you, Zooey?
    :P
    Comment by trueblue

Yes, please! You can make it a drinking game, if you want. :D

  43. Kay says:

You punks don’t have a clue how to protect America

    By the way, firehead :

I LOVE MY COUNTRY BUT FEAR MY GOVERNMENT.

  44. miguel says:

I hate to repeat it but it must be said over and over again. May God forgive us for what this country has done to Iraq.

  45. Kay says:

why not make it a drinking game : The Idiot in Chief has for almost 7 years now!

  46. Rosencrantz says:

If Bush spent as much time doing actual work as he did holding press conference to make threats, then 9/11 probably never wouldn’t have happened and these wars would be over.

Instead ever time somebody stands up to the naked-emporer, he has to play the cowardly lion, go on TV and make threats. You’d think he could just go directly to congress and speak with them directly if he really was such a tough guy. Instead he hides behind and army of reporters.

  47. Bob says:

Struck with the realization that nothing has worked, Dems in Congress actually doing their jobs with oversight, and ongoing investigations that keep turning up more criminal behavior, he’s going to resign to save the country from another impeachment process.

Yea, I know: But I can dream.

  48. pgw says:

i hope someone asks him why he opposes 2008 redeployment if the “surge” is “working” so well

  49. Kay says:

On the TV right now : pure evil

  50. trueblue says:

    OMG!

Did he just say he asked Congress for this 57 days ago?

The last Congress left this mess for us.

They did nothing, and now he has the nerve to blame it on Democrats?

    I cannot wait for 2009.

  51. Jake says:

So? Clinton held press conferences at the Rose Garden too.

  52. ghost says:

Does this have anything to do with the reports of an impending attack on Iran (due April 6 according to Russian and European reports) – the recent announcment by the UK that Iran has 48 hours to address the situation, etc, etc ?

I originally put all of this down to paranoia on the behalf of a handful of reporters but now many things seem to be happening that seem to support the theory.

Surely not? Can a US president start an attack on a foreign power without approval by congress? What if a ‘friendly nation’ of the US (eg Israel) attacks first and Iran reacts against US forces in the area – is that enough excuse for a President to order a retaliation ?

I am starting to get a little paranoid myself right about now.

  53. HAHAHA says:

Jake, your father was a child molester too, so does that mean it’s okay for you too?

  54. Zooey says:

    ghost,

There’s some discussion about this on the ThinkFast thread above.

  55. Kate Henry says:

I do think that the Democrats in the Senate should revise their bill and take out all the pork (including funding Katrina victims, that can be a separate bill). Then pass it again without any pork. I know a lot of the pork was put into the bill to get some reluctant Senators to sign on. I doubt that those senators would vote against the bill once the pork was taken out. If they voted against it once the pork was removed, that would tell their constituents exactly who they are and I suspect they would have a hard time the next time they ran for election. Once the pork is out of the bill, Bush won’t have that as an excuse for vetoing the bill.

  56. VerbalKint says:

Even some pretty hard core deniers are starting to see that Bush is just a petulant punk. This guy is working hard to get down to sub-20% support. He is destroying his own political party.

  57. trueblue says:

    Zooey,

    Thank heavens it’s over now.

    What a dolt he is…..

  58. Not Canadian says:

    Ready, set, IMPEACH.

  59. Sharon says:

True and all who watched, did ya notice how much he was nearly screeching his word’s?….SSDD..Worst president in the history of our country…Blessings…Impeach now

  60. trueblue says:

I had to walk away halfway through or else I would have thrown something at the TV.

I listened from a safe distance, though.

    He is so arrogant.

  61. GregM says:

The decider keeps kicking the can down the road until Jan 2009. Meanwhile, our brave troops and innocent civilians are dying on a daily basis. Cutting off the funds is the only way to stop this joke of a president.

  62. gumby says:

Vermont and Oregon voted for impeachment; IMPEACH and prosecute the whole corrupt cabal!!! What more is it going to take for Americans to reclaim the constitution and the welfare of this country? Sadly, a lot more damage, fear, lying and suffering. Get off your asses.

  63. Raymond Funamoto says:

    CHIMPya, YOU BEG OUR PARDON?
WE NEVER PROMISED YA A ROSE GARDEN!
    ALONG WITH THE SUNSHINE,
THERE’S GOING TO BE HURRICANES AND TORNADOES SOMETIMES!
WHEN YOU TAKE, YOU ALWAYS TAKE, SO DIE, CLOWN, AND LET DIE!
    OR LET GO, SCHMO
    CHIMPya, YOU BEG OUR PARDON?
WE NEVER PROMISED YA A ROSE GARDEN! ONLY THE THORNS!!!!
    (With Apologies to Lynn Anderson)

  64. powkat says:

Blah, blah, blah, war on terrah, blah, blah, blah, democrat party bad, blah, blah, blah, testy with press, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah – why not call it a ’same old news conference.’
