“The base isn’t interested in Iraq. The base is for Bush. If Bush said tomorrow, we’re leaving in two months, there would be no revolt.” Garance has details.
If Bush said tomorrow, we’re leaving in two months, there would be no revolt.†– -
The Fox News headline you’ll never see: FLIP-FLOPPERS OR SHEEP? YOU DECIDE.
“The base isn’t interested in Iraq. The base is for Bush.”
Yep. Politics not first, but politics only. To paraphrase Lombardi (or whoever; origination is disputed): “Politics isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.”
They’d sell their grandmothers into slavery if they thought they’d get a political dime out of it.
Norquist’s comment of course just goes to show how all the pious “we’re fighting to bring freedom to Iraqis” was just a bunch of bullshit rhetoric to hide the fact that the real reason we went to war is because Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush and Rove thought it would be a rallying point to further cement the Republican majority. Now that it’s not — oh well — let’s move on. Iraq Schmiraq. Oh, and by the way, you neocons? Yeah, you were never part of “the base”; sorry to inform you.
Toolhead Grover is right, of course. Iraq’s true utility was in helping shrub get re-elected. The rest is ragtime and shrub’s ego and many, many more deaths.
No. I don’t think the base is for bush. The base is for underage boys. Mark Foley set the GOP base bar on that topic. OK. OK. Jeff Gannon appears to be on the far side of 18… but who said the Emperor Decider had good taste?
Norquist “The base is for Bush.” IN THAT CASE, Grover, I HAVE SOME NICE HOME-MADE LYE FOR CHIMPya and YOU TO GUZZLE DOWN YOUR OBSCENE MAWS–LYE IS A BASE, ISN’T IT—IT IS ALSO AN ALKALI, AND I’M NOT LYE-ING WHEN I SAY IT’S HOT STUFF—AS A MATTER OF FACT, IT BURNS, AND I’M SURE IT WOULD BURN RIGHT THROUGH YOUR DISGUSTING CARCASES, Norquist and CHIMPya!!!!!
(in soothing, gentle voice) Yes, Jake, you are right. The bad liberals supported everything Clinton did. You are such a smart little boy. OK, it’s time for night-night. Maybe if you sleep for a whole decade, the bad liberals won’t be in charge when you wake up. Yes, I’ll check under your bed to make sure there are no bad liberals.
What ChristoFascistTerrorist ReichWingNut GOP BushBots don’t appreciate is this:
If this were any other country in the world, this invasion and occupation of Iraq would not only be illegal, but ALL the political leaders would have been rounded up and thrown at the mercy of the Judges in the World Court!
That’s how important this thing is. That’s just how OUT OF TOUCH!!! GOP BushBots are.
Again, this is the 3rd Temple crowd. They don’t care about America or Americans or even humanity. They see Bush as a messenger sent by God to start the world war that will result in the rebuilding of the Temple of Abraham (it’s been destroyed twice before) which will bring on the rapture.
Global warming, world war, the downfall of “morally corrupt” America are all just reinforcement signs to these people that the resurrection is coming.
Bush, Rove, the neocons, the neo robber barons, and the new world order consider these people (a stable 30% of the U.S. electorate) pathetic fools to be easily manipulated.
All the lies are meant for them and Norquist is just (in shorthand) stating the obvious.
Jake the Joke reveals his inner lack of character: “If Clinton was for the war then all of the liberals would be too.”
Jake the Joke, is, of course a conservative and, as we have seen, a sociopath. It’s important for the sociopath to believe others think and act as he does. Otherwise, the sociopath may begin to feel that there is something basic wrong with him. The sociopath then “projects” his inner feelings and motivations on others to make himself feel better. Jake the Joke holds positions because his leaders hold positions. Therefore, he can’t imagine how a liberal might think for himself and make decisions based on an internal set of morals as opposed to taking marching orders from a leader.
Patrick1 also displays this classic sociopathic behavior. Respect for the leader trumps all sets of internal morals by which one would make a decision for himself.
Respect for the office of the President is more important than the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism. Duh! Liberals are so dumb.
Comment by Patrick1 — April 3, 2007 @ 1:22 pm
That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever read. The office has nothing to do with the idiot sitting in it right now. You do not respect somebody just because they have a title. That is what kings are for.
In fact, it is respect for the office (of President) that makes me so angry about how Bush and his cronies have sullied something that DESERVES respect. Bush, however, does not deserve, nor does he have, the respect of any sentinent human being.
Theodore Roosevelt: “That we are to stand by the president, right or wrong is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
Exactly. And, that’s really what these sociopathic power-worshippers want. And, if they can’t get a monarchy, a corporate oligarchy and aristocracy will have to do for them.
Unfortunately for Grover and the GOP, Bush will decide to leave his Iraqi tragedy the week after the Republicans are swept out of office in November 2008. Does the too-late-to-help-GOP-candidates-in-2006 dismissal of Don Rumsfeld come to mind?
the reason the base is for bush is cause they don’t have a dog in this hunt. None of their kids, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers are being killed and maimed over there. They don’t have to hear their family members nightmares, or see them as they sit with the thousand meter stare. This war is killing the men and women serving in Iraq and they don’t give a damn. They don’t even want to take care of them.
Greetings. I just arrived here on this lovely planet. Could one of you Earthlings please assist me with understanding some of the comments and reasoning posted here? Logic is the cornerstone of our culture and I’m worried that many of you are quite deficient in this kind of thinking. That Bush fellow must have someone do his thinking for him. Have a nice Milleneum, ,.’]93,

It’s called idol worship. This shows us how far the Christian Right have been misled, who comprise a large percentage of the 30 percenters that still support Bush.
Norquist is quite right. The conservative, authoritarian pysche needs a daddy figure to follow, which explains their propensity to follow evangelist shysters without question. Besides, the base is really only interested in greed (lower taxes) and fear (war on terra, xenophobia).
republicans are revolting in another way.
April 3rd, 2007 at 12:50 pmThat sort of says it all about the ability of the “base” to engage in critical thinking doesn’t it.
April 3rd, 2007 at 12:50 pmBush. Base.
