An independent federal watchdog agency is investigating whether the firing of former U.S. attorney David Iglesias violated a federal law that prohibits job discrimination against members of the U.S. military. To justify his dismissal, Justice officials accused Iglesias of being an “‘absentee landlord‘ who was spending too much time away from the office.” But as TPMmuckraker notes, “Iglesias did, in fact, leave the office for 45 days each year. But that’s because he’s a a captain in the Navy Reserve — something that was no secret to his superiors.”
You know how the Landlord doesn’t know how much damage a tennet has actually done until said tennet has moved out?
If we know this much about the mess the Bush Regime has made – what kind of hellhole are we going to find when he leaves office?
April 4th, 2007 at 5:35 pmWe can’t have our public officials doing things for the public good! What is this world coming to! /sarcasm off
April 4th, 2007 at 5:35 pmAnd how is interim US Attorney in Arkansas and Rove protegee Tim Griffin any different?
Griffin is a reservist in the Navy JAG corps. Were they planning on firing him too? Doesn’t sound like it.
April 4th, 2007 at 5:50 pmThanks to lying Al Gonzales we have no Justice System. Rove/Meirs make a mistake and didn’t know Iglesias was reporting to duty to serve the country. Remember the White House leaders never served in the Military and SUPPORT OUR TROOPS is just used to get money it has nothing to do with Military soldiers. The White House called Iglesias serving his time to the military a vacation. Former laws were broken but under Al’s rule crimes is all good as long as your a friend of the President. Look for Abramoff, Duke, Ney and Libby will all be free as crimes is now legal for Republicans. I wonder when Al’s goes to Congress will he use the race card? Al better be careful Hatch might change his mind about supporting a minority.
April 4th, 2007 at 5:58 pmIts time to make Bush sign the Magna Carta.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:00 pmoops wrong post…oh well.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:01 pmAttorneyGate gets better with each passing day! This is Bush’s waterloo and it wouldn’t matter now at all if he decided to remain on a permanant vacation.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:02 pmSupport the troops much?
April 4th, 2007 at 6:02 pm#4 Right, Jackie! What would AWOL Bush and 3-deferrment Cheney know about the military? Absolutely zilch as is evident from their chicanery and total lack of knowledge. I think it’s comical actually how the DOJ, in it’s sheer stupidity and top-heavy thirtysomething, unqualified personnel just thought they had to come up with some “reason” for the firings which will become their undoing and will end this DOJ which will take this administration down with them.
They didn’t have to have a reason; rather, it will be these nonsensical reasons which will be their pitard. How stupid of Miers and Rove to NOT realize that the reason Iglasias was gone was because he was serving his country! We knew Harriet Miers was a ditz-brain during her hearings and the only reason she’s one of his cronies is the exact reason Gonzo was appointed: because they lied and twisted things to get Jr. out of trouble all his life. They both go wayyyyy back when you want to discuss “complicity”.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:06 pmCrump’s Brother: Wrong thread, jacko! Hie yourself out of here if you can’t understand the discussion.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:06 pmEach excuse is more specious than the next. This is despicable.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:09 pm#8 I think that was directed at Iglesias’s detractors.
April 4th, 2007 at 6:14 pm#8 That is in reference to officials using the time that he “took off” when he had to perform his duties as a reserve officer.

Why does the Justice Department hate our troops?
April 4th, 2007 at 8:12 pmWhy does the Justice Department hate our troops?
Because they are turning into Democrats faster than a Republican can drop his pants at a Boy Scout jamboree?
April 4th, 2007 at 8:55 pm[...] Boy oh boy, the right can’t even get their swiftboating right. One of the fired US Attorneys David Iglesias was fired for quote, “being an absentee landlord” away from the office tooooooo much. Bad US attorney, bad. And yes, it’s true he has been away from the office 45 days every year. Freeloader, he get’s paid for this? So your probably expecting me to point out the 400 plus days the president has been on vacation (including today). Nope, don’t need that arrow. Iglesisas is a Captain in the Naval reserve. Fired. Problem: It’s against the law. [...]
April 4th, 2007 at 9:03 pmOh this is getting good.
April 4th, 2007 at 9:59 pmWE HAVE GOT TO CONSOLIDATE ALL THIS INFORMATION AND USE IT TO LYNCH CHIMPya and Bushland Uber Allies—HANG THEM FROM THE HIGHEST TREES AND WATCH THEM TURN SLOWLY IN THE WIND—-A SYSTEMATIC CASE BUILT PIECE BY PIECE AND USED TO PUSH THEM OUT OF OFFICE AND STRUNG UP IN TRIPLE-QUICK TIME LIKE Saddam WAS TOPPLED AND STRUNG UP—ONLY CHIMPya and Bushland Uber Allies DESERVES IT MORE THAN Saddam EVER DID!!!!!
April 4th, 2007 at 10:27 pmMan, you need a backhoe now to dig through all the Bulls**t that the Administration is dumping now. Forget the shovel. The idea that Igelgias was absent at his post because of his commitment to the Navy is just more of the same (or shame, take your pick) for these clowns.
