Geraldo had a fearful look on his face because he knew that he was wrong. One, if you’re an illegal immigrant, you must be deported. Two, if you’re an illegal immigrant that commits a misdemeanor/felony, you should be banned from ever being approved to enter our country. This illegal immigrant constantly broke the law, and the Virginia Beach Mayor and Police Chief decided not to uphold the law. Geraldo needs to cease supporting illegal immigrants. Mr. O’Reilly didn’t miss the point. What he was trying to explain is that an illegal immigrant should be deported if he/she is charged with a misdemeanor/felony. Its not. Most Europeans are bi-lingual, yet here in the US we prefer to remain dumb. Teaching our young kids spanish and english would make them smarter and would open the world of Latin to them, which is a great gift to give any child.

That’s the big issue. They don’t utilize the proper channels to receive temporary access into our country. Most have a 3rd grade education and they know that their visa application would be denied because they lack job skills. If they would put the bottle down and apply themselves, maybe Mexico wouldn’t be such a bad place.

There’s nothing wrong with educating yourself about other foreign languages. But I do have a problem with learning a language so I can conversate with you in our country. This is America. One of my good friends owns her own business and she told me that she hires a lot of illegals (not because they are illegals, because they do the best work) And no, the average pay is 35k a year. Not really all that cheap.
Here is the kicker. She pays taxes on all of them. She doesn’t pay them under the table even though it would be a lot easier. Has the gov’t come after them as a business? NO. have they come after any employees and deported them? NO. NOTHING. I live in the city, and you don’t know how many store owners I try to be a customer for, but they never understand what I’m saying, or they don’t know what I’m saying.
It only wastes an average of 2 - 3 minutes of my day (sometimes, it takes 2 minutes just to say two separate statements, or requests) however when you add up all those times… yeah, a lot of time has been wasted.
One time at a rest stop on the highway, it took me 10 minutes to have the cashier understand that what I had on the side was a pickle. She had to call the other cashier over, and then the boss. It was a nightmare. At LEAST learn the English words of the food you’re selling!
The worst is if I’m ordering take-out via the phone. The phone makes their accent for me, and my English for them, much harder to understand.
And that DOES make me worry about if they drive. Can they read road signs? Maybe they memorize the shape and colors, but I have no way of knowing.

Sure, that’s annoying, but it’s always been that way in this country. When the American Revolution happened, most of Pennsylvania was German-speaking territory. A lot of communities in the southwest have always been majority Spanish-speaking. And non-English-speaking immigrant communities have existed in our large cities since the mid-1800s, if not before.
You say they should learn English - they are learning English. Immigrants today learn English faster and better than ever before - 98% of the children of immigrants grow up speaking perfect English. That certainly wasn’t the case 80 or 100 years ago. Back then, they used to mostly live in segregated, insular neighborhoods. They’d use their native language at work, at home, out in public, and when they went shopping. Today, that doesn’t exist any more, and they’re out there trying to get by with limited English in mainstream American society.
That’s the way it is in the country.

The relationship between the Bush and Clinton (and Gore - yes he backed it too) NAFTA bill, driven into Mexican law to the direct benefit of the corporate communities on both sides of the border, has not been explored anywhere on this blog.
NAFTA destroyed the Mexican corn farming industry, driving a lot of family farmers out of business as the big US firms dumped corn in Mexico. What did these farmers do? They returned the favor and came north, the change in demographics of farm workers post NAFTA is staggering - now over 80% of all US farm workers are from south of the border and over half of them are undocumented - who is exploiting who? The story of illegal immigration in the US is complex and basically everyone has been benefitting - the Mexican companies, the US agribusiness companies and the immigrants have done what they were basically forced to do…
