A ‘loyal Bushie’ comes under scrutiny.

Steve Benen notes that pre-election charges against an aide to Gov. Jim Doyle (D-WI) by a Bush-appointed U.S. Attorney have now been dropped.

  3. barfly says:

Actually, the conviction was overturned; the charges were not dropped.

  4. Wayne says:

Conviction was over turned, not charges dropped
    From the link:

Federal judges Thursday ruled that former state purchasing supervisor Georgia L. Thompson was wrongly convicted of making sure a state travel contract went to a firm linked to Gov. Jim Doyle’s re-election campaign and freed her from an Illinois prison.

The three-judge panel in Chicago acted with unusual speed, ruling after oral arguments by Thompson’s attorney and the U.S. attorney’s office.

During 26 minutes of oral arguments, all three judges assailed the government’s case, with Judge Diane Wood saying at one point that “the evidence is beyond thin.”

During a news conference later Thursday, Doyle, a former state attorney general, said the three judges did an “extraordinary thing” by entering an order finding Thompson innocent and ordering her immediate release.(emphasis added)

  5. barfly says:

I just wonder where they picked the jury from. A conviction so easily overturned points to prosecutorial misconduct. As officers of the court, they are required to be above partisan prosecutions, and they should be disbarred for their actions.

Conviction overturned TP. Try to get YOUR witch hunt right at least.

Jake’s a little slow; perhaps he should try Sarutan, and get back to regularity.

Off topic, but I just saw the Monica Goodling is going to resign from the Justice Department.

  10. badger says:

She wasn’t an aide to Doyle, and didn’t even know him. She was civil service, not involved in politics. It looks as though Biskupic (the Bushie US Attorney) went after this woman to give the GOP some dirt to fling at Doyle in the election campaign (which Doyle won anyway). She was a purchasing director, who gave a travel contract to a firm whose executives had contributed to Doyle. She seems to have made the decision on grounds of the firm being the low bidder, and it’s not clear she even knew about the campaign contributions from the executives.

Did Tp achieve some sort of rhetorical advantage by saying “charges dropped” vs. “case thrown out for prosecutorial malfeasance?” I don’t see it.

  12. Michael Jones says:

I want to know what happened with Conrad Burns in Montana. No charges were ever brought and the USA was promoted. Life is good when you play ball?

Namejacker, fake veteran and liar Jake is back.

Your credibility, if you ever had any is shot, jerkwad.

Shall I Point everyone to your cut and paste source of your veteran claim?
Or are you going to be honest and come clean? (not likely for an asswipe like you)

  17. kelso says:

In arguments Thursday, the appeals judges called the charges against Thompson unfounded.

“It strikes me that your evidence is beyond thin,” Judge Diane Wood told prosecutors. “I’m not sure what your actual theory in this case is.”

Seems to me that it’s the prosecuters that should be in put in jail for this one.

Please note the time the issue was challenged!

After a namejacking, this was supplied:
Fort Lewis, July 1950, 60th Signal Service Company — Pusan, Seoul, and Pyongyang during the WAR — later I ended up at Inchon and at the First Tokyo Arsenal. Then I was transferred to Kyoto, Japan. I left there in and was shipped home to Ft. Carson, Co. until my discharge.
You are back on the Ignore List now, asswipe!

Not true, I have often condemned the person who highjacks trolls’ names and makes inflammatory comments about that same troll. And I do so again.

Please answer Wayne’s question, because after looking at what Wayne linked, it looks like he is correct.

Well, SpottedHawk, I served with that guy in Korea and Japan. I don’t see how the fact that his story was up on the web — just because mine was not — disproves me in any way. Lots of the REAL world don’t exist here on this new fangled Al Gore invention, right? Please don’t try to circumvent the “Ignore List” again.

As others have pointed out, it’s not just the new replacement Attorneys, but every single US Attorney who kept his/her job is now viewed as a “loyal Bushie” and a political partisan instead of an independent prosecutor.

Not only does it challenge the jury pool, but Appeallate judges may be taking a closer look at every case tried over the past 6 years. Or maybe not? Were they appointed by Bush? Are some of them “loyal Bushies” as well?

Take into consideration the ploys the Republicans in the Senate pulled when they were in the majority to get their nominees approved and you begin to grasp the importance and danger of ONE PARTY CONTROL over the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches of government.
