Four years later:

“In an about-face by the U.S. government four years into the war in Iraq, America’s fallen troops are being brought back to their families aboard charter jets instead of ordinary commercial flights, and the caskets are being met by honor guards in white gloves instead of baggage handlers with forklifts.”

(Second and last post. A comment would be appreciated. CtR)

This is totally off thread but I would appreciate your response. I have applied to be a TP Fellow and they wanted a sample of my writing. Thanks for indulging my ego and your comments. The odds of it ever happening are far greater than my usual $20 to a glass of warm pee but it could be a start.

If such is the will of the Citizens of the United States the following is a proposed plan to initiate the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney and negate the positions of all Bush appointees. The plan is contingent upon only one thing: the desire of the majority of registered voters in this Country. Short of having an election across the Country this plan is based on the same concept as the Electoral College but without the possibility for corruption that has been demonstrated in the last two Presidential elections.

    GIVEN:

    1. For the purposes of elections this Country is divided into Precincts, by County (local terms may vary for either or both), and by State. The Precinct being the prime component of the collection and compilation of the votes.

    2. The number of potential voters in each Precinct is calculated to give each individual the opportunity of “one man, one vote.” Since it is assumed that all eligible voters will register, the terms will be used synonymously regardless of actual practice.

    3. The voters are registered with Party Preference.

    4. The individual receiving the most popular votes in the appropriate election in each Precinct becomes the US Representative from that Precinct and State in the House of Representatives.

    5. The individual receiving the most votes in the appropriate election from all the Precincts within a State becomes a Senator from that State.

    6. The Representatives (one per Precinct) from each Precinct and Senators from each State (2) are morally, if not legally, required to reflect the desire of their constituents. Note: The term “Constituents” encompasses only the Registered Voters in the applicable district (Precinct or State) and DOES NOT include non-voting entities (PAC’s, Corporations, Special Interest Groups, lobbyists, and Briberies, etc.)

    PROCESS:

    1. The House and Senate appoint a bipartisan committee to determine, through the following process, the will of the Registered Voters of the United States of America concerning the answers to the four (4) questions (Only “Yes” or “No” responses accepted):

    A. Should President George W. Bush be impeached and removed from office?

    B. Should Vice President Richard Cheney be impeached and removed from office?

    C. Should the political appointees of President Bush be submitted, or resubmitted as the case may be, to Congress for review and approval?

    D. If the Representative or Senator from my Precinct or State does not vote as the majority indicates their preference, should said Representative or Senator be removed from office?

2 The Committee shall establish a staff competent and qualified to perform the following:

    A. Obtain an accurate, up to date, list of Registered Voters of each Precinct in the Country (the list must conform to the list of Representatives.

    B. Develop a Sample Size for each Precinct by Party Registration that will assure at least a 95% accuracy of representing the Precinct as a poll when polled.

    C. Randomly select, by Party Registration, the registered Voters of each Precinct to be polled.

    D. Prohibit any individual or entity from contacting any of the selected voters for the purpose of influencing their vote or attempting to determine their vote prior to the prescribed date.

    E. Conduct the survey using methods that will guarantee, to the greatest possible degree, the accuracy of the survey. Collect and compile the data and review the results for any statistical abnormality. Correct abnormal results to assure an accurate survey.

    F. Provide the responses to the above questions to the Committee.

    3. The Committee shall provide the results of all Precincts to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and to each Representative the results of her/his Precinct only. The Speaker of the House will determine if the survey indicates sufficient support to warrant the introduction of a Bill of Impeachment against the President and/or Vice President. If such a determination is made the Speaker of the House will immediately introduce such a Bill and call for a voice vote and before each Representative records her/his vote the Speaker will reveal the results of the poll.

    4. Should the resulting vote be that the Bill of Impeachment fails the subject is dropped and returned to the voters. If the Bill of Impeachment passes it shall be sent to the Senate for the appropriate action.

    5. At the time the Bill of Impeachment is passed to the Senate the Committee will provide the results of the survey (compiled by State) to the Majority Leader (Total) and each Senator (State results only). The Senate shall call for a vote on removal from Office and the Majority Leader shall read into the record the result of the survey for each State before the Senators from that State cast their vote.

    6. The results of the voting will be acted upon accordingly. If appropriate, Congress shall act upon the results of Questions C and D in the applicable manner.

Constructive comments will be appreciated. Useless derogatory comments will be ignored.

    Pelosi scarves a diplomatic accessory

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) kept a diplomatic fashion accessory on hand throughout a recent Mideast tour — an array of colorful scarves draped around her neck, ready to be pulled over her hair when Islamic custom required.

As it turned out, Pelosi needed to cover her head only once, when she visited a historic mosque in Damascus.

Note: He didn’t offer the “volunteers” a chance to change their minds. Who cares? The true American Citizen.

    Let me get this straight…

Wanting US soldiers to die, in a useless ill conceived war, designed like ALL wars, to make the country’s elite, even more rich and powerful… is “caring” for them.

Wanting them to come home to safety and their families… is NOT “caring” for them.

  24. david says:

I recommend John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany. And excellent book about sacrifice and love and the horror of war.

It’s insulting to say conservatives care more about the troops than liberals. Respect for the service and sacrifice of the armed forces requires we review the objectives and risks of every military operation. It is a poor commander who doesn’t understand when to advance, when to hold one’s ground, and when to retreat. Anyone who thinks that being the “good guys” means you can’t lose has been watching too many Hollywood movies.

Another thing one needs to remember, the role of the professional soldier is an honorable one. Wars do end and one will eventually become friends with the very men and women who once tried to kill you and whom you once tried to kill. It makes it harder to make peace if one falls for the propaganda that demonizes the enemy.

The best thing for them to do would be to end this illegal and unwarranted war/occupation. Bring the soldiers home alive and not in caskets.

  37. Karina says:

First of all! has everyone forgotten why we entered this war? if anyone is not honoring these men, who are definitely worth honoring, it is those who have forgotten why they died. Here we are blaming Bush, for sending us to this war, but how did you feel when so many of our countrymen died? it still breaks my heart to think about that day. Everyone of those people that killed our countrymen deserve to die. If we had not gone over there, we would have never gotten so many of them. and do people honestly think that if we just stood by and did nothing that it wouldnt happen again? of course it would! it would keep happening. its like punishing a child for something done wrong. if you dont correct it right at the incident they will continue to do it. and that is why we are over there. to prevent this from happening on our doorsteps again. we are not trying to gain power! we are trying to save the lives that would be lost if we hadnt. Every soldier that goes over there knows what they are fighting for. I have spoken to many. It is not as bad over there as everyone thinks, or so i am told, by those that have come back. and they are just angered by how the news and things portray it! I am angered! As for the caskets. Each one is honored when they come home. each one gets a ceremony and flag for remembrance. none are forgotten. It is their rights by the military Policy!
the aircraft may be a C-17 but that doesnt mean the men on it are not honored for what they have given up for us. They are entitled to be honored.

Yes they do. But it was Bush who determined the American people couldn’t see these brave young soldiers returning home as they had always been shown before.

And it’s Bush who gives them substandard care when they return home injured. And doesn’t care when they lose their jobs and homes because he keeps extending their tours.

I grew up in a military family. I saw my father go to the VietNam war, and I saw the black cars driving through my neighborhood, which meant some family was getting bad news that day. Luckily, it was never my family.

We blame Bush because he is to blame. He and his administration lied us into this travesty of a war, and 3267 of our troops are DEAD for no good reason.

Iraq never did a single thing to us — even your lord and master GWB admits that. Educate yourself.

I mean this criticism in a good way. First you would need to research 9/11 by reading the 9/11 commission report (Kean commission) and you would see that there are no connections with 9/11 and Iraq but to Afghanistan and Saudi (Osama was Saudi)

To find out why we are in Iraq I suggest you google for and then read the UN/US resolutions for use of force in Iraq to enforce the resolutions about WMD (which have been shown to be false) this has never been declared a war, it is more of a police action.

I really don’t see Blogs themselves as a research tool other than the people that do post here can help guide you to information sources for research. If I were a student and I’m not, I would follow the links people post. (that being the method of using a blog as a research tool)

Good luck with your schoolwork Karina.

I urge you to hang around here for a week — you’ll learn something about compassion, passion, pain, grief, despair, and hope.

You were perfect. I’ve always been hard on my daughter about her spelling. She’s a great little writer but her spelling makes me nuts. But now that I’ve seen Karina I realize for a 12 year old she’s not doing so bad.

It could be a 15 year old. They frickin’ know everything, right? My son could have written the same thing at that age — from the liberal perspective. It sounds like she’s just regurgitating the crap she hears around her, since she admits she doesn’t watch or read the news.

I wish that just once the NBC reporter assigned to the White House (something Gregory) would ask the Chimp why it is that the people who have died for his lies have to be brought into Dover AFB Delaware under cover of darkness and with no cameras nearby. Just ask the Chimp straight out “what do you think you are hiding?” We all know those are dead soldiers”

If Bush had an ounce of compassion in his compassionately conservative body it would bother the hell out of him to be confronted with that reality. But, he continues to live in his little bubble world and most of the conservative-biased media continues to toss softball questions at him.

units are more designed to be breaks:

Other members of the Joint Chiefs have raised such concerns, including Gen. James T. Conway, commandant of the Marine Corps. Conway said he was concerned that Marines were increasingly unprepared for rapid landings and attacks common in the early days of a crisis, which has been their primary mission in the past.

Gates said war planners had attempted to accelerate the deployments. But the military’s inability to move equipment to the region more quickly and the need to keep units on a regular training routine forced a slower schedule, he said.

“One of the principal reasons that it was not possible to accelerate it was that we want to make sure that every single one of those brigades is adequately trained before they actually enter Iraq,” he said.

latimes:Troop ’surge’ duration unclear, Gates says

  104. david says:

The Founding Fathers placed the military under civilian control because they feared tyrants with standing armies. The President, a civilian, was made Commander-in-Chief but they also gave Congress the deciding power to declare war. For all Bush’s blather about not wanting politicians telling generals what to do, that’s precisely what the Founding Fathers wanted. Bush is a politician and his job is to tell the generals what to do. And it so happens it is also Pelosi’s job.

The civilian authority has a duty to honor the ultimate sacrifice of its fallen soldiers. It’s the politicians who have placed them in harm’s way and they have dutifully obeyed. We honor them when they return in flag drapped coffins. We also honor them when we hold their civilian commanders accountable by demanding to know that the war was just, its objective clear, and the risk of failure minimal. Up until now we haven’t been honoring the troops in any way. We are now doing the former; it’s time we did the latter.

Back at ya Zooey and Shane, Sorry to hear about the Magnolia trees…We have lot’s of them here and they are all in bloom…

I thought I had seen it all and helped to clean it all up in our little neighborhood but I was wrong….The most appaling sight happened just a few minutes ago……A car turned around in our little one lane drive and then went out and parked on the other side of the garage….No one went out to the dock or out to the bait shop so I decided to check it out….In broad day light, with fishermen, children resident’s just a few feet away a couple of crack head’s were doing their thing….I walked up to the car and screamed at the top of my lung’s ” get the f*** out of here, this is a private resort you son’s a b****es.”..Well needless to say, something didn’t get done..(bj)…LOL..wish I would of been packing, their tire’s would of been blown out…..Should of called the cop’s, but their slow and I’m not…..Not against car sex but time and placement should be in order….LOL..Just had to vent and pass on this Saturday event…Blessings all and see playing nicely is not an option when we are surrounded with disgusting behavior from our representatives and many in the public….

  112. Zooey says:

    You go, Sharon!!

I bet those crack heads moved faster than they have in a long time! Maybe they’ll spread the word to all their crack head friends not to mess around at your resort.

I’m late to the discourse, but I’d like to point out something. Karina came on with a well-written litany of talking points about fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here.

Then, when ripped for it, developed a persona of a 15 year-old high school student, complete with im spellings, so that some would back off and apologize.

We’ve seen that tactic before, folks. Troll-alert got it right.

  117. GaPeach103 says:

By exposing the reality of death, more Americans, especially those in red states, will realize the utter futility of Bush’s Blunder in Iraq. I remember a few months ago when one of the local newspapers covered the wake, funeral, and burial of hometown hero who was killed in Iraq. The anguish of his family was enough to break the most callous of hearts. Yet, this family wanted other Americans to see their agony for themselves. When I looked at the picture of that young man, lying there in his dress uniform in the open casket, I knew that I had to do my part to end this misguided debacle. He was so young, a mere boy, but because of Jeb Bush, Kathleen Harris, and 5 Stupid Supremes, a Boy-King took us into Iraq on a fool’s errand. I can still see the cold stillness of his face, I can still feel the miery of his family, and I can still recognize that no lives should be lost for no genuine purpose. I wish there was some way to compel Bush & Cheney to attend every funeral, to witness every burial, to hear the endless playing of “Taps.” Then they’d know firsthand the neverending pain of a thousand Cindy Sheehans.

  118. Sharon says:

Great post’s GaPeach and all, I agree, but I would prefer to see this intire administration in jail forever for their war crimes and crimes against humanety….Blessings

  119. dog-walker says:

my dog twitched and whine in sleep all night last night and then woke up speaking English. he said he had been dreaming like a maniac.

“I’ve been dreaming like a maniac,” he said. “I dreamed I was eating dead American soldiers. It was my job to eat them as soon as they died so that nothing bad could happen to their bodies. They came so fast I had to run the whole time to catch up and the more I ate the bigger I got. And I kept getting bigger and bigger until I was as big as THREE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY SEVEN SOULS and filled up the known universe until I exploded from all the souls of the soldiers and fell on the sky in pieces that became red and blue and white stars falling across the sky. And then I took a shit and the shit rolled over and stood up and said, ‘Hello, ahm Dubya ‘n ah cud yoose a gud dawg lak you.’ And then a fat, cow faced man shot me with birdshot and I woke up. What does that mean?”

I said, “Are you sure that was Dubya and not just a regular piece of shit?”

But my dog just whined and jumped up on my knees so I took him outside and he shat a pile of white gloves and a whole fleet of chartered airplanes.

I think I better take him to the damn vet.
