Rep. Vern Ehlers (R-MI) on Alberto Gonzales:

“Since he’s such a close, personal friend, he’s hurt the President by what he’s doing, he should have the politeness to offer his resignation. I don’t know if he has or not and the President is still holding it, who knows. But I think he’s damaged himself and the President through his actions.” (Via TPM.)

Gonzales is circling the drain a bit faster every day . . .

  2. Angry One says:

The Top 10 Reasons Gonzales Must Go:
    1. Lying Under Oath
    2. Purging Prosecutors
    3. Misusing the Patriot Act’s National Security Letters
    4. Authorizing Illegal NSA Domestic Surveillance
    5. Enabling John Yoo and Unchecked Presidential War Powers
    6. Rendering the Geneva Conventions “Quaint”
    7. Supporting Military Commissions and the End of Habeas Corpus
    8. Blessing Unprecedented Expansion of Presidential Signing Statements
    9. Facilitating a CIA Leak Cover-Up

Rep. Ehlers is from our district. Bravo Vern!

  4. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

Gonzales, stop making an ass of yourself and holding up the American justice system to ridicule. Put America first for once. Resign already!

  5. STTP in Ohio says:

As has been stated elsewhere Gonzo is done. The only issue now is the timing of when he gets shoved under the bus. “Rove’s shop” is buying time to stuff the DOJ with as many loyal Bushies as they can before a real atty. general shows up.

  6. SKdeA says:

The only reason he hasn’t resigned yet is that they NEED him in case any of these investigations get as far a Cheney and Bush. Who on the Supremes would really go to the wall for them?
Also the arrogance of Gonzalito deceives him into thinking he can get away with it all, he thinks he is the law.
    He has another think coming!

  7. Raven says:

I’d like to add one more to the list of reasons why he should go:

11.) Failing to execute the duties of his office

  8. Jay Randal says:

Gonzales would resign if he was honorable, but he is not so he refuses to resign for being a corrupt Bush Regime stooge.

  9. tarazan says:

Representative V.Ehler(R-MI) said that Gonzalez hurt the President by what he’s doing…and he should resign.

Although I think he should resign,we do not know what the President or Rove wanted Gonzalez to do to begin with him .

We don’t know yet who is hurting who here…!!

  10. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Even if Gonzales offered his resignation, Bush wouldn’t accept it…it would be tantamount to admitting a mistake. Bush doesn’t believe in admitting mistakes and being accountable for them. But Bush doesn’t have the final say on Gonzales. The Congress, under the Constitution, has the right (and responsiblity) to impeach not only the Pres. and VP, but also any “civil officer.” That, by definition, is any one who is in a confirmation position. Cabinet members, judges, ambassadors, etc.

  11. jimmymac says:

Funny how Ehler’s comments could also apply to George Bush and the American People:
…”he’s hurt the (United States) by what he’s doing”
…”he should have the politeness to offer his resignation”
…”I think he’s damaged himself and the (United States) through his actions”

  12. Raymond Funamoto says:

    GO, GONZO, GO!!!!!
    GO, GONZO , GO!!!!!
GO GO GO GO GO GO, GONZO, GO!!!!!
SCRAM ALREADY YA CRUMB-BUM, YOU’RE STARTING TO IRK ME, YA PIPSQUEAK CRIMINAL!!!!!

  13. Post T. Disorder says:

No, I disagree. Gonzales has not hurt the President by his action. It seems to me, he just got caught in the middle and has continued to cover-up for the President. His loyalty remains with the President and not for this nation and the people for which he was suppose to represent. In this case it has been obvious that a white lie is more important him than his present position….a position that he held for the purpose of shielding the President from wrong doing. As I see it, he is so indebted to the President that he does not own his own soul. He has sold it to his KING.

That is why BUSH continue to announce his 100% support for this man. Gonzales loyalty is to the President and the President only. He has a deaf ear for the People of this Nation. He serves at the “pleasure of his President’ not for the people of AMERICA. Despite any wrong-doing this President and administration has perpetrated, he continues to nourish “the culture of corruption” that has plague our government and conspired to enable the President to do what it know best….to deceived the nation so that he can advance his agenda and the agendas of those he truly serve(s). You know who you are.

We expected much more from US Attorney General. A standard of excellence and honesty and a loyalty to the oath of our allegence. He lied ones, that could happen. He lied twice, that may be tolerated. But to lie three and four and possibly more than that, is unacceptable. He failed this test. He has lost his credibility and confidence of our people. The only responsible option left and the right action for him to take is.

    1. Tell the truth.
    2. Stop being a shield for the President or his staff (Rove).
    3. Finally, Gonzales should resign if he has any self-respect left and respect for this nation.

  14. demdandy says:

The longer Gonzales holds out, the more harm he does to Bush and the Gang, thus he is actually fueling the fire that threatens to engulf the pathetic presidential wimp. Seen in this manner, Gonzales in the long run is serving the best interests of his country. Hang in there, Al, the Democrats are privately salivating over the prospect of you still being in the Bush administration come November of 08.
