Victim’s father calls O’Reilly ‘disrespectful.’

In his debate with Geraldo last night, Bill O’Reilly argued that the deaths of two girls in a drunk-driving accident should be blamed on illegal immigration since the drunk driver was undocumented. But during a press conference, the father of one of the girls “said that making an issue out of immigration loses the focus that the girls were killed by a man that police said was driving drunk. Ray Tranchant said, ‘We need to heal, and to bring immigration, that’s disrespectful to a family who’s just mourning.’”

It turns out that they, the GOP ReichWingNut ChristoFascistTerrorists, are perfectly qualified and happy to perform themselves these very jobs. It’s a good “fit” between labor and the demand for labor.

    Right?

This thread is not about the pros and cons of illegal aliens in this country. It’s about a grieving parent saying how disrespectful BO is for pushing the illegal immigrant portion of this tragedy.

I won’t defend this drunk driver and I won’t defend the system that’s allowed him to stay in this country legally. It’s the same system that gives legal citizens third, fourth and more chances when it comes to drunk driving and only after a similiar end result does the public get upset.

There is a valid argument for the need for these immigrants in this country. I have yet to see one single valid argument for allowing drunk drivers.

Stay focused. You’ll have many other threads to vent on illegals.

I haven’t failed to consider that. But this accident is about drunk driving… not illegal immigration. The fact that the driver was an immigrant is irrelevant. You can understand why it would be irrelevant if an illegal immigrant saved a person, so you should understand why it’s irrelevant in this case. They are separate issues and O’Reilly is trying to link them. The issue of what should be done with illegal immigrants is not linked to drunk driving. If it is then it’s also relevant to talk about any/all of the benefits that these immigrants bring to the country. You may not be aware of them, or you don’t care about them because they are here illegally. But the problem with what happened here is that a driver was drunk & killed someone. If that driver was a homosexual I guess O’Reilly would say this is definite proof that homosexuality is a bad thing. If this person had just left the hospital after his gf had an abortion then O’Reilly could say that abortions lead to death… it’s faulty logic. Argue your opinions of illegal immigrants separate from drunk driving and you’ll do the country a service.

Okay, I know a guy who hired some illegals to work for him, I was against it and told him so, he wanted cheap labor for more profit.

Many of his employees didn’t have documentation so he told them on friday if they didn’t have documentation he would have to fire them.

Come monday morning, amazingly, they had documentation, It was forgeries, of course, but he didn’t care, his excuse was “How am I supposed to know they were forged?”

Under previous administration inspectors used to check for illegal workers and dissuade employers from hiring them. You never hear about that anymore under Bush. How hard would it be to enforce laws in place. Not to hard if the President’s friends didn’t all want to make bigger profits with cheap, illegal labor.

Also, shouldn’t a citizen with 4 strikes against them for drunk driving be in prison. We just had a 23 year old woman kill 6 teenagers she drove home from a bowling alley. She’s a citizen and had many drunk driving strikes against here. How about enforcing laws in place.

However, the illegal status of the driver was not a factor in the accident. Booze was a factor in the accident. Booze is a factor in far too many accidents. Booze is a factor in far too many deaths.

A bigger factor in this case than the immigration status is the leniency with which the courts treat drunk drivers. Why isn’t Mr. O’Reilly screaming about lenient, left-wing, activist judges, or is that what’s next?

I was saddened to see Mr. Tranchant, in what is surely one of the worst times in his life, trying to bring the topic back to drunk driving after it had been hijacked by Mr. O’Reilly’s hatred of illegal immigrants.

I don’t see other sides as much as mouth-breathers so accustomed to attacking “lib-ruls” that they create an enemy that doesn’t exist and then waste a lot of time shouting. Kind of like Bully-O.

    They are linked….
1st Offence Drunk driving (in most states) is a felony
2nd Offence Drunk driving (in all states) is a felony
    Vehicular manslaughter is a felony
Illegal Immigration is a misdemeanor currently

He was driving drunk and found to be a non citizen but was released rather than being immediately deported. This way he could stand trial for DUI. The arrest did not deter him from repeating the act again only this time he commits another felony DUI and manslaughter.
So now there are at least three crimes committed. He would also be looking at a host of lesser crimes but a second offence at DUI would require mandatory prison time. Other possible crimes would be related to insurance, taxes, fraud, multiple offenders, license, SS# and other driving infractions. All of these lesser but included crimes would also be added in.

Mind you if the immigration law was enforced at the time of the first DUI offence then it is possible and likely that the fatality/murder may not have happened at all.

It is a CRIME to enter the US without following due process. This alien starts with a bold strike by the violation of US law. In fact this can only get worse since a false person needs to be created in order to allow the alien access to protections afforded by the constitution. This decision to break the law trivializes all of the laws that this nation is built upon.
Here is a decent article about the issues here…

  77. WaltTheMan says:

For some reason, this was suppressed:
The railroad and canal system in this country was built on the backs of illegal immigrants from Ireland, Italy and China. In all probability, BO’s roots exist in groups of those illegal’s or in the Irish mafia that settled parts of Massachusetts. These illegals were given blanket amnesty when the need to man the warfront and factories was required in WWI.

I have been censored twice in this thread. The comments pointed out that O’Reilly and his kin were once very likely illegal immigrants. Potato farmers from Ireland. They built the infrastructure of this country in the railroads and canals. Chinese and Italians also came into the mix. The Irish and the Chinese built the railroads and canals, the Italians, the mortar and brick. Why my comments are less offensive then O’Reilly’s eludes me. I am posting this in my facebook.com as well.

  83. Pee Wee from Crawford,Tx says:

Roughly 14 people are being killed in VA everyday by drunk drivers, according to Hellinabucket. That adds up to 5329 each year, and only one illegal is responsible for only two of them! That’s an average of illegals killing .0001876 per cent. Billos crusade seems to be racist to me,picking on the one illegal driver, and not whining about the rest.
Don’t get me wrong one DUI death is way too many,no matter who’s behing the wheel. But being illegal didn’t make the man drink and drive!
If wasn’t for Ireland running out of potatoes,O’Lielly would be back in Ireland, know only by the locals as red-nosed,obnoxious drunk who got his butt whipped frequently, by young street punks from Latin America

  84. Stay out of the Bushes says:

    Dear right wingers,

The Republicans have not wanted to do ANYTHING about illegal immigration
for years. It would hurt the economy, don’t you know? Kind of like how some in the Deep South rationalize the existence (and failure to end) slavery.

There is a great way to stop illegal immigration. The answer is NOT to go after individual illegal immigrants (there are way too many here already with the blessing of Corporate America). The answer is to go after the businesses that employ illegal immigrants.

The hypocrisy (or ignorance) from the right on this issue is astounding. We should not attack or blame illegals for coming to this country to seek a better life. My God, it’s what many of OUR ancestors did. We currently have a government that is (as always) protecting big business, and in the process “illegal immigrants” are being dehumanized by many Americans and middle class America is fading from existence little by little.

Fact check to see how many COMPANIES that the Bush Administration has pursued for violating illegal immigration hiring LAWS (hint : you can count them using one hand) and then compare that to the number of companies that the Clinton Administration fined and pursued for illegal hiring practices.
Please wake up soon and realize that the words that come out of the mouths of your “leaders” are nothing but propaganda.

I guess that’s all you need though to continue believing in the myth your worldview depends on.

  85. Kevin says:

You folks keep missing the point. This guy’s immigration status didn’t have anything to do with his drunk driving. He was not “more drunk” because he was illegal or Mexican. Bill’s point (and he’s right) is that had he been deported after one of his four arrest, he would not have had the opportunity to get in a car drunk and the two girls would still be alive. He is not giving a free pass to drunk driving. This case is different from all the other cases because the government failed to deport a criminal that did not belong in this country. I’m not a racist. You will call me one but he could have been from anywhere. He was a criminal that should have been sent back. He wasn’t and because of that he was able to kill two teenage girls.

  86. Pee Wee from Crawford,Tx says:

Using your anology, but changing the name of the criminal,
had Bush got drafted, and went to Viet-nam and got killed, this country wouldn’t be in the mess it is now,Right Kevin?

  87. Zooey says:

So Kevin, are you blaming this government for not doing it’s job? Aren’t you one of the great defenders of of this administration?

It’s ok for this administration to send 3267 of our troops into the Iraq abattoir, but you get all upset about two girls killed in the US? A little consistent, eh?

BTW, I’m not saying the deaths of those two girls isn’t a great tragedy, so don’t go there.

  88. Kevin says:

You both hate Bush so much that you make a lame attempt to tie this issue to the president. Why don’t you come up with something related to this case. Tell me how it was ok they let this guy go four times. Tell me why he shouldn’t get deported. Tell me how any illegal that gets arrested should not be deported.

  89. Zooey says:

    Kevin,

I don’t know why that guy was not deported. What don’t you find out?

Last time I looked, GWB was the Captain of this f*cking ship, and everything, I mean EVERYTHING this government does is to his credit or his fault.

Why aren’t you more upset about our military being used as cannon fodder? Answer that.

Why don’t you respect the father in this thread?

  90. Kevin says:

I do respect the Father. He is in great pain because of a failure of the Virginia Beach system of letting illegals go instead of deporting them. The City’s policy is responsible for giving this criminal the opportunity to kill. And he took it.
As for the military. I hope they all come home safe. I pray that they can do what they need to do to accomplish the mission and come home safely. But you seem to think they are cannon fodder. I say they are noble men and women that helped free a people. A people that still need some help. Has the war gone will. No. Has it been handled correctly. again, no. Do you give up and walk out on people who we helped vote in a free election. No. If we can offer security to this country so it’s leaders can stabilize and protect it’s own people don’t you think that’s a worthy cause. Stop hating the Iraqi people.

  91. Zooey says:

    Kevin,

You live in a dream world.

Our troops are noble and honorable men and women, who have been sent into an unjust war — that’s unforgiveable. Our continued presence in Iraq gives the Shites and Sunnis all the reason they need, as if they need any reason, to keep killing each other. We are not making any progress in in Iraq — hence your dream world. The leaders in Iraq have no motivation to stabilize anything.

F*ck you Kevin, if you think I hate the Iraqi people. That’s the end of this futile debate.

Are your children old enough to serve? Would you happily send them to Iraq to fight this war? My children are old enough to serve, but thankfully they have done their research and realize this war is a lie — a fictional war — and not worth a single life, American or Iraqi.

  92. Kevin says:

    Zooey,

You live in a nightmare. You don’t think the people of Iraq voting in a free election is a good thing. You believe that they would be better off with Sadom. I agree with you that the war was not planned well but we are doing a good thing. Stop blaming America and start blaming people that setup IADs and blow up public markets. And If I had kids that wanted to go and stop evil people from killing innocent people that only crime is going to work on a Tuesday morning, I would be proud of them.

  93. Zooey says:

There’s no help for you, Kevin.

Maybe one day you will wake up, or not.

  94. Kevin says:

I hope you wake up as well.

  95. Zooey says:

Believe me, Kevin, I’ve been wide awake since I heard the name George W. Bush as a candidate for president. It’s been a long, hard fight — you’re just not aware of it.

  96. Kevin says:

You have learned to hate a man and are willing to sell out the country because of it. I read TP every day and most of the post are just nothing but hate for Bush. This story didn’t have anything to do with Bush and you changed it to a bash Bush line. I don’t agree with a lot of what the Presidents has done. But you folks don’t look past the hate and look at what is best and right for the country. And getting out of Iraq before the job is done is wrong.

  97. Zooey says:

    Kevin,

    Where is Osama bin Ladin?

  98. pluky says:

They’re here illegally! They’re here illegally!

Gag me. A law that cannot be enforced is a bad law.

  99. Saywho says:

How does this alien obtain a license? How does he get insurance? I’m a citizen and I just renewed my license. I had to bring a stack of proof as to who I am, pay money, wait for 1/2 a day and comb my hair for 4 more years and an RFI chip. I don’t drive drunk and in fact I don’t drink. I can barely afford my monthly expenses and I can inform you that my auto insurance has never been so high while I have ZERO points.

Citizens pay for the aliens in all sorts of ways. Here we are looking at several laws that are completely trivialized. Aliens aren’t deported, aliens can do as they please then the citizens are treated like sheep, herded into lines and fleeced for what little money we have. No health insurance, rotted teeth, pain, job loss and benefit loss.

Now two children are killed while the system to protect them was killed off long ago. Employers are encouraged to use aliens as indentured servants. The whole thing is quite insane. Here we are in another war that is to allow us to feel revenge for 9-11. We don’t even know the truth about that disaster but many assume way too much.

Everything is upside down in the world and has been for a great long while.

  100. Saywho says:

This ALIEN offended than Reoffended and we can assume he was driving on the revoke list as well. You can have all the driving laws you want but aliens are similar to foreigner diplomats clutching IMUNITY. Tougher driving laws for aliens would be fantastic. Limit them to walking. Force them to wait till they are legal just like all the citizens must wait till they are 17-18. Wow, here is an idea; DEPORT aliens any time they are found out!

Wrong. Bush isn’t thinking about OBL, let alone looking for him. Bush pulled back our forces at Tora Bora when they were about to move in on OBL. Hmmmm, I wonder why? Maybe Bush needed a big old boogie man out there so he could dismantle our Constitutional rights, and keep ya’ll fearful that the terrorists were going to kill you in your bed.

    Worked, didn’t it?

I’m done with you, Kevin. You are a determined bed-wetter.

  104. Kevin says:

What “worked” was some jets flying into stuff in the US. And I’m done with you.

  105. Stay out of the Bushes says:

Here’s a better idea. Take it to the frickin’ companies
who keep on hiring illegal immigrants. They’ve been doing it for decades, and this behavior obviously makes it appealing for people to come here illegally when they KNOW they can get work.

Don’t blame them for trying to better their lives. Our ancestors did it. If the COMPANIES did not hire them so excessively, word would not get back that work could be found, and a lot of the problem would be solved going forward without having to take each case individually and deport individuals one at a time.

Why do Republicans NEVER seem to understand that Corporate America is just fine with illegal immigrants being here (our stock market is propped up in some sectors based on their low wages), and thus SO IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!

  106. Stay out of the Bushes says:

    Kevin,

If you support what the Bush Administration has done to OUR country over the past six years, it is YOU who has sold out our country (Zooey is defending it rather well from the likes of you).

It is THIS administration who has a President who took an oath to uphold the Constitution but thinks “it’s just a g*dd*am piece of paper”. It is this president and his administration which has fundamentally shifted the very basic idea of what it MEANS to be an American and what rights and liberties come with being an American.

It is YOU who have scared yourself to death irrationally since the events of 9/11 and are willing to sell out our nation. It is THIS administration which does not believe in co-equal branches of government, but a unitary executive theory which has NO place in American society. The list is endless and you are in denial. If a democratic president had so radically seized control of this country and changed the basic principles of what it means to be an American and the rights and liberties that lie therein, WE would be right by your side fighting against said president.

Our country has become a shadow of the greatness it once represented to the world and to many Americans. Many Americans somehow rationalize torture now as official policy??! I can’t even believe how much we’ve changed as a nation, and it is not the majority of individuals posting on this website that have allowed this to happen.

That would have to be a large part of the “FIX” but then an even larger part of the fix will be clearing house in DC. Businesses and corporations lobby the politicians and more cheap labor. The businesses are as deceptive as the politicians.

I would not blame aliens that obey the law and become LEGAL ALIENS but the ones that choose to BREAK THE LAW should be forever blocked if they are found. My relations came to Ellis Island long ago the LEGAL way.

Then you never mentioned the war zones in California. It is a fact that some of the most violent criminals at large today are illegal aliens. They slip through the cracks since most have fake IDs. Here I can post a link to some ###s to back that claim up. For the greater good and for sanity they have to go!!!

  116. Stay out of the Bushes says:

    Saywho,

The laws are already in place.

The Bush Administration has every right to go after these corporations through a variety of means at their disposal (like Clinton did). Bush’s Labor Dept., FBI, there are several different methods at his Administration’s disposal. It’s already “illegal”, as everyone here well knows. The “politicians”, if you’re referring to our Congresscritters, cannot enforce law; they make it (and Bush MIGHT sign it).

I do agree with you that the majority of our politicians are bought and paid for by Big Business. It’s just that one party has sold out quite a bit more than another. By a LONGSHOT.

  117. Stay out of the Bushes says:

    Re: My above post.

How can people (of both parties) not be in favor of publicly financed campaigns?

In light of everything that’s been going on and the extent to which our politicians ARE bought and paid for by Big Business, we should come together, AS AMERICANS, and get this passed.

    ASAP!

  118. Saywho says:

Comment by Stay out of the Bushes — April 8, 2007 @ 9:17 am

My view is a tad bit different:

    1) We need to end the two party system. We tend to vote along party lines and this cuts available candidates down by 30%. No group is free from group think and this is the true disaster of party politics. In general Dems & Repubs need the same thing but group think allows corruption more flesh to grab in a party system.

    2) We need to set term limits for all of congress like that of the president. This is important in many ways. Congress persons over time develop relationships with lobbyists. Over time they will enjoy more and more financial reward from those lobbyists. If limits are imposed then more men and women will get a chance to serve the nation as a matter of duty rather than out of greed for power or money. Term limits will also limit the amount of damage lobbyists can do since like the terms the relationships are limited in time too.

    3) Repeal all laws that damage the Bill of Rights. The idea that congress voted on a “Secret Bill” is INSANE. The balance of power needs to be restored if we are going to move on with the same system of government. It should be difficult for congress to make a law not easy. The executive should consider the weight of a bill before he accepts it or rejects it since passing a law is serious. No citizen should be compelled by law to be a patriot in name or actions.

    4) We need to eliminate the money that is supplied to aliens but the laws do not penalize corporations and businesses enough. Businesses determine if the penalty for being in violation is lesser or greater than the expense of employing citizens. Americans loose and in fact pay for the aliens as well. These violators need to be closed down.

    5) We have to shut the borders to protect the nation from attack, gangs, smuggling, disease outbreak, wage warfare, invasion and many other problematic items. Our patrols need to be able to deport aliens who gang bang, smuggle, break serious laws and those factors need to curtail that individual future access to the USA.

There is so much more that is needed and even possible but we would have to accept the limits of reality. Our desire for cheap goods, cheap energy and quick profit has destroyed our chances for long term survival.
