despite knowledge of his many ethical problems. According to the Washington Post, when Bernie Kerik was nominated by President Bush in late 2004 to be the Secretary of Homeland Security, the White House knew that he had a host of problems in his past. Yet Alberto Gonzales aggressively pushed his nomination forward:
Bush’s top lawyer, Alberto R. Gonzales, took charge of the vetting, repeatedly grilling Kerik about the issues that had been raised. … “The vetting process clearly broke down,” said a senior White House official. “This should not happen.” …
Gonzales, then the White House counsel, who was about to begin his own confirmation process for attorney general, took charge of questioning Kerik, grilling him for hours on several occasions, the sources said. At one point, Gonzales called while Kerik was having lunch at a New York steakhouse and talked to him on his cellphone for an hour and a half. Nanette Everson, then the White House ethics counsel, was kept on the sideline for the heavy-duty part of the vetting.
man, are all these crooks connected? Jeff Gannon’s name is going to come back up before long, I just know it…
April 8th, 2007 at 9:31 amlol
April 8th, 2007 at 9:35 amKerik was selected as a strawman – he wasn’t really their desired choice.
Chertoff was always their choice. They only put forward Kerik’s name to take the first wave of attacks – in order to make Chertoff look good by comparison.
Chertoff sailed straight through, unopposed. Israel’s choice (dual citizen).
Remember the ridiculous nomination of Bush’s counsel, Harriett Miers, to the Supreme Court? Another strawman.
Same game, different name.
Nothing is as it appears.
Nothing.
April 8th, 2007 at 9:36 amThey should call him “Shitfingers” Gonzales because everything he touches turns to doody.

April 8th, 2007 at 9:46 amGonzales the stooge grilling Kerik the thug > lol. No wonder the Bush Regime is filled with stupid criminals.
April 8th, 2007 at 9:48 amace > if Chertoff is an Israeli citizen, then he is a Mossad agent.
April 8th, 2007 at 9:50 amI still keep coming back to the same question… If there are no negative consequences to the Bush Regime for their habitual bad behavior, then why in the world would they stop?
The fact that we have 21 months left in their “We want Armageddon” term, which is a lot of time for more problems, is alarming…
Congress needs to reconsider Impeachment. Just the process might slow down the antics of these criminals… After all, we know they are governed by fear, so let’s give THEM some for a change…

I dont understand why foreigners (and isreal spies on us more than any other) would be allowed to have such influence in our country. Hell they have more influence than we the people… rediculous. Maybe the people need a spy network that likes to deal in blackmail.
April 8th, 2007 at 10:02 amYou’re wrong Ace. Bushes plan is to get his obedient operatives into every corner of government to do his personnel bidding. It’s that simple and there’s no bait and switch, no distraction to make Chertoff look good. They don’t need it. They will have their operatives in place by hook or by crook and as you can see by the long list of convictions and indictments they seem to have relied heavily on the “crook” part. Kerik was just one. There are hundreds of other examples of incompetents and cronies shoehorned into positions that require experience, knowledge and skills to be succeed. But they were not put in place to succeed, they are to fail by design.
The Neocon philosophy is this.
“Government sucks so lets outsource/privatize EVERYTHING !(to our buddies).”
For them to push foreword this philosophy they need OUR Government to fail US.
Six years of solid failure has worked just as planned for these fascists.
So when you see men and women and children dying because they have no health care or fighting for their basic needs or waiting in vain on their roof to be saved after a flood, Understand, no help is coming. That’s the plan.
April 8th, 2007 at 10:05 am5 ways trolls hope to disrupt constructive liberal blog discussion:
1.Flames
April 8th, 2007 at 10:13 am2. Post a comment that is catchy but completely off topic
3. Lie, presenting “facts” that take time to debunk, therefore creating doubt for the moment.
4. Create super long posts so scrolling that down to the next post is a chore and disruptive.
5. Ask questions ( ala Fox News) in order to draw in other posters – get them engaged with said troll – with no intention of listening to the responses.
Slime on slime…. GWB legacy continues. People brace for impact because this going to hurt. I just want to thank anyone one who put this fool in office. Just hope it was worth it. You put a total “boob” in the most powerful position known to mankind. Long live “Bush the Boob”.
Happy Easter.
April 8th, 2007 at 10:14 amOf course Gonzalez will testify that , he was simply doing some prayers on his cellphone with Kerik in NY steak restaurant .
Gonzalez will explain it also by saying that Kerik was simply learning some Spanish from him that day on the phone…….
Gonzalez:” I was simply interviewing him while he was eating in the steak house in NY. “
April 8th, 2007 at 10:18 amGibson > for Bush to knowingly put foreign agents into his cabinet is treason and grounds for his impeachment. The Constitution clearly states that no foreign operatives are to ever be allowed in our government. Israel wants to know everything our government is doing, but we must not help them to spy on us.
April 8th, 2007 at 10:18 amHey, #10, you caught us. You know’ it’s hard work’ being a slime ball.
April 8th, 2007 at 10:19 amHey, WAR CRIMINAL TRAITORS have to help each other, you know…
April 8th, 2007 at 10:20 amnone of the negatives made any difference… what REALLY counted was the prospect of, first, unwavering bush loyalty, and, second, unquestioning commitment to republican ideology… as long as bernie kerik had that, no problem…
and, the obvious question is, how many OTHER vetting processes have been short-circuited in order to fast-track bushco and republican party loyalists, qualifications and background be damned…?
And, yes, I DO take it personally
April 8th, 2007 at 10:25 amIsrael wants to know everything our government is doing, but we must not help them to spy on us.

We need to cut Israel loose. I mean how many people would maintain a friendship with someone who was always picking fights with others and getting them involved by association?
If it weren’t for some ridiculous religious belief that these people were ‘chosen’ (the whole Moses story wasn’t even remotelytrue), we would probably have them on the arbitrary Axis Of Evil for supporting Hezbollah and Hamas…
April 8th, 2007 at 10:25 amOnce again, despite a genuine scandal, an authentic violation of US law, our political lethargy causes inertia! When will we take action against the Bush/Cheney cabal, this gang of hoodlums, thugs, and thieves who have destroyed, vandalized, and looted the American government? How much more can we take before we take to the streets? When we will have a march on Washington that will make 1963 look like a meeting of Proudly Gay Republican Atheists Who Believe in Global Warming?
April 8th, 2007 at 11:07 amGuiliani is involved in this mess as well:
And maybe this explains some of the current problems in Iraq:
Bush sent a corrupt cop to train the Iraqi police. It figures.
April 8th, 2007 at 11:10 amAs I’ve said before,
AS LONG AS IMPEACHMENT IS OFF THE TABLE
April 8th, 2007 at 11:12 am
Kerik was a perfect nominee for the Bush Administration. He lacks morals and ethics. This administration can’t hire or appoint anyone with morals and ethics because those people would likely not go along with the illegal things this administration has done and is doing now. Someone with morals and ethics might just expose them for who they are. I’m so glad the Democrats have control of Congress. If they didn’t, we would not know any of what has come out in the last three months. What else is going to crawl out from under the Bush rock?

April 8th, 2007 at 5:11 pmHey Ace–
Michael Chertoff is NOT an Israeli citizen, you fuckwit. Check out the Wikipedia entry on him. Born in USA, lived whole life in USA, never lived in Israel, not an Israeli citizen. But he is Jewish–I guess that’s enough to get the conspiracists going.
April 8th, 2007 at 5:17 pmIt doesn’t sound from that quoted paragraphs that Gonzalez was doing anything to help Kerik.
