For Bush, this will only mean we need even more troops over there to prop up this failed policy.
On a side note, on MTP this morning, Kate O’Beirne semed all but convinced Bush “insider” and critic Matthew Dowd was a “Democrat” who “fell in love with the candidate” and lost his way.
Okay, that it. It’s over for the US in Iraq. Anyone who has been following the ins and outs of Iraqi politics knows that the Americans have bungled everything in the reconstruction. They disbanded the Iraqi Army, they treated the Baath Party as if it were the Nazi Party, they tried to disarm the militias –even though they were keeping order in many areas, and they kept overruling the newly elected government of Iraq. The one thing saving the Americans is that the respected religious leaders al-Sistani and al-Sadr were cooperative or neutral. Now America has made al-Sadr an enemy. It’s over.
For Bush, this will only mean we need even more troops over there to prop up this failed policy.

You think they will dare say the dreaded ‘Draft’ word?
I hope they say it, because I think would be the final straw in the Average Americans complacency…
But, but, but…. Jesus whispered in my ear and said it would all turn out good! The Lord works in mysterious ways, we can’t fathom his wishes, maybe it was meant for us to give up the lives of our boys and girls, kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, squander our resources and lose the respect of the world.
Didn’t Bush acknowledge recently that he had been stupid to have taunted the enemy with the phrase “Bring it on!”
When will this man stop trying to write the script of what’s supposed to be happening and start asking what’s really happening and who is doing it?
You can’t spin war on Fox and CNN. It’s not something you can Poll. The bombs explodes, the bullets fly, the bodies fall. War requires intelligence, judgement, and action. Sadly, I see Bush failing at all three.
If Sadr’s followers commence all out attacks on US troops, then expect the US casualties to double or triple. So up from 2 to 4 a day killed to 5 to 10 a day or worse. Bush will just start dropping napalm on Baghdad and making it worse.
Even though there is no collaborative relationship between al-Sadr’s movement and Iran, how can the administration insinuate there is? Elliot Abrams! Get on it!
Looks like history is repeating itself in Iraq, the 1920 Iraq Revolution.
In 1920,England as the biggest empire on earth then, and was running Iraq with a mandate from The League of Nations.
Shiate rebelled and Revolted against England, later the revolution spread to have Shiate in the South and Sunnis in the north fighting against England.
Ove 80 years later we have now USA…the most powerful nation, with mandate from United Nations…fighting rebels in the north mainly Sunnis, now after so many years..it looks like the Shiate might join this…in the south.
[Our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as 'liberators'.
It is not the wish of our government to impose upon you alien institutions]

Baghdad, 1917
If this degenrates into an all out civil war, with much more US Casualties….does that mean the War will soon be over for America, and Bush will be forced by the American people to get us out of there??
Now I understand how the Soviets lost in Afghanistan – they should never have gone in there in the first place, everyone in the country hated them and fought against them, they wasted billions and wrecked their economy. Oh yeah, they destroyed the country and helped create (along with the U.S.) a big training ground for jihadists. So who thinks it was a good idea to replicate that in Iraq?
“How long will we permit millions of pounds, thousands of Imperial troops, and tens of thousands of Arabs to be sacrificed on behalf of colonial administration which can benefit nobody but its administrators?”
And we are doing the same thing, for the benefit of the same group. In this case, substitute the term “administrators” with “war profiteers.”
GOOD NEWS FOR THE SQUAT LITTLE TOAD Sadr, BAD NEWS FOR OUR SITTING DUCK AMERICAN TROOPS—AND Monkey Boy CHIMPya GOES BLITHELY ON HIS MERRY WAY WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD, THE F*CKING A**HOLE CRIMINAL CREEP!!!!!
Interesting comments. All should try reading the Middle East news. Sadr have visited all the Middle East countries for support in leading Iraq. All the Middle East countries gave him support. Yes even the Saudi King has turned his support from King George W. Bush and his side kick Satan Cheney to Al Sadr. When the US said Al Sadr had left Iraq but they didn’t know where he went, the Middle East media allowed the viewers to know what he was up to. Yes his followers did know and so did the puppet President Maliki that Bush put in office. Now Bush/Cheney want the money they all for the Troops it’s really for the promises and deals they made. All this talk about when the US will get out of Iraq will be decided by Al Sadr not the United States. In time the American people will find out how/why Bush/Cheney illegally and based on lies invaded Iraq. The sad thing is it was never about WMDs or Iraq Freedom. It was about a weak none cooperative Saddam and the oil rights. The families of the dead troops will have to face the truth that they supported a lying President as their sons/daughters died for greed and not the reasons Bush/Cheney told.
if this is true, things are going to get very bad, very quickly for the ’surge’ -
from the beginning of the ’surge’ it has been apparent that it was the political decision of the militias to ‘lie low’ while the american troops were setting up. that has been the basis of the so-called ‘good signs’ that the press has mentioned, and that has many neo-cons practically panting out ‘told you so.’
if a central baghdad cleric, like al-sadr (who is, according to juan cole and others, the central baghdad cleric) decides the honeymoon is over, things in baghdad will get very, very bad – very, very quickly.
our troops are scattered in penny packets throughout baghdad, with little or no logistical, air or artillery support. they are vulnerable to large numbers of armed militia members. and the mahti army (sadr’s militia) numbers nearly a half-million (according to juan cole.) that’s a lot of angry young men with rifles.
as a father with a son serving with those penny packets in baghdad, all i can do is pray that general petreaus knows it’s happening and is taking steps to be ready.
i don’t understand why the Iraqis fight and kill each other when they should be concentrating on repelling and exterminating the Invaders and Occupiers and Oil Stealers.
Caught in a civil war… someone elses civil war. But the Bushies are going to make Iraq into a little America!!! How out of touch …really…

Hey, nice work!! Do you have any link?
April 8th, 2007 at 12:46 pm#20: Juan C, Here you go.

The one I like even better is a report by Lieut.-Col. T.E. Lawrence, the famous Lawrence of Arabia.
Time moves on, everything changes and yet, beneath the shine of all that new veneer, nothing really changes – ever.
April 8th, 2007 at 2:00 pm22 – Abby, thanks for the link.
