In a memo to staff today, World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz said he tried to find an “agreement that balanced the interests of the institution and the rights of the staff member in an exceptional and unprecedented situation.” He failed to explain how giving his romantic interest, Shaha Riza, a $193,590 salary is in the best interests of the institution. Her pay exceeds that of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Wolfowitz also “reportedly attempted to circumvent the rules so he would be able to continue to work with Riza.”

6 ways trolls hope to disrupt constructive liberal blog discussion:
April 9th, 2007 at 12:17 pm1.Flames_2. Post a comment that is catchy but completely off topic_3. Lie, presenting “facts†that take time to debunk, therefore creating doubt for the moment._4. Create super long posts so scrolling that down to the next post is a chore and disruptive._5. Ask questions ( ala Fox News) in order to draw in other posters – get them engaged with said troll – with no intention of listening to the responses. 6. Just outright denial…..just
Maybe Shaha Riza doesn’t have any teeth….
April 9th, 2007 at 12:21 pmCould this be considered an under the table (or rather, under the desk) employment situation?

April 9th, 2007 at 12:25 pmNothing like the luxury of the privileged class. This asswipe should be pounding rocks in the hot sun or cleaning and bandaging wounds at Walter Reed.
Maybe he needs her around to lick his comb?

April 9th, 2007 at 12:25 pmWasn’t Riza the actual last name of the Shah of Iran who was deposed in the Iranian revolution?
April 9th, 2007 at 12:26 pm(You all remember him, the ruthless right wing dictator the CIA set up into power after overthrowing the previous democratically elected government ?)
Wasn’t Riza the actual last name of the Shah of Iran who was deposed in the Iranian revolution? – - Mohammed Reza Pahlavi.
April 9th, 2007 at 12:29 pmWolfowitz needs to be SHOT for his part in the LIES that Bush used to invade Iraq.

April 9th, 2007 at 12:32 pm.. thanks badmoodman, thought I had something there….sigh………..
April 9th, 2007 at 12:32 pmDamn, Wolfie. You DAWG!
April 9th, 2007 at 12:33 pmMaybe she can now afford to buy him some new socks!
April 9th, 2007 at 12:38 pmThe Shah’s last name was Pahlavi. I think his wife was Riza.

April 9th, 2007 at 12:40 pmGosh, I seem to recall the GOP making a really big deal out of the “Character Issue” back in 2000! Why nothing now?
April 9th, 2007 at 12:44 pmMohammed Riza Pahlavi.
Khomehni and his followers refered to him as Riza Shah. I don’t know why
April 9th, 2007 at 12:47 pmWolfowitz and all the neo-nazi members of PNAC need to be investigated thoroughly now. Each one of them appears to have defrauded the people – not to mention their concoction of the WMD fantasy along with 911. They’re all complicit and need to be brought to justice now. This “galpal” situation with Wolfy is the mere tip of his corrupt iceberg.

I had a snarky answer for you, but it appears to have been filtered out.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:01 pmIs Riza a man or a woman? Holy crap…this is smarmier than anyone imagined!
April 9th, 2007 at 1:01 pmmake him pay the money back out of his own funds… garnish his wages if you have to… then can his arse…
April 9th, 2007 at 1:01 pmSo what? Neocons don’t play by rules. That would show weakness.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:03 pmwait a minute, did I just get scrubbed:????wtf, I didn’t say anything wrong in it all!?!?!?!!
April 9th, 2007 at 1:20 pmgrrrrr..
whoever has their finger on the scrub button has an itchy trigger finger. C’mon TP you post a thread about the Wolf’s love interest but then cut out the more colorful replies?
What did you expect?

April 9th, 2007 at 1:27 pmKlyde #15
Riza Shah was the father of Mohamad Reza Pahlavi, tha last Shah of Iran.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:29 pmI heard they met when Wolfowitz offered to show her his weapon of ass destruction.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:33 pmA little background on miss Riza.
She is from Libya, her mother Syrian.
As far as I can tell, she is married, to one Mr. Bulent Ali Riza, who is the Director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, currently assigned to the Turkey Project, which studies Turkey’s domestic and foriegn policy issues.
Question.
I thought the right wing “frowned” on Adultery?
April 9th, 2007 at 1:39 pmRemember folks he was the one who said Iraq would pay for it’s own re-construction.And the cost of war won’t run more than 60 billion.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:41 pmNot surprising that an a complete jackass was rewarded with the world bank gig, afterall he’s a Bush loyalist.Incompetence and cronyism are their hallmarks.
Come on now, any guy who has to lick his comb like Wolfie does needs all the help he can get…
April 9th, 2007 at 1:41 pmAt least Clinton didn’t screw around with the wives of foriegn nationals and diplomats…
:|
At least not that we know of.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:42 pmAh.
Here’s an interesting note on Mr Riza.
According to the CSIS , Mr Riza is an expert on the folllowing:
* Turkish politics and foreign policy
* Politics
* Transportation of oil and gas from the Caspian region
April 9th, 2007 at 1:45 pmHmmm.
Seems the deeper you dig on this one the more interesting it gets.
Hey TP?
You got someone on this?
April 9th, 2007 at 1:45 pmRemember: Whatever it is you are doing, it’s ok if you are a Republican.
Adultery, influence peddling, cronyism, bribery, “missing” Iraq funds, bypassing domestic law, ignoring international treaties?
It’s all ok.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:50 pmHmmm..
After digging a little deeper, it seems that Mrs Riza’s husband appears to be a critic of the Bush administration.
Here, let me say that again.
The husband of the woman Paul Wolfowitz is tapping, is a critic of the Bush administration.
April 9th, 2007 at 1:56 pmIt seems that Mr Al Riza, is critical of the Bush administrations approach to dealing with Turkey and their internal issues.
It also seems that Mr Riza is not a fan of the US going to war with Iran.
“With neither Iran nor the United States showing an inclination to retreat from a looming confrontation, the pressures on Turkey are certain to increase”

#27 – Iraq is paying for its own reconstruction – and so are we. The question is who are we paying? How much of the money that GW wants “for the troops†is actually going to Haliburton and other crony companies? I am guessing that a relatively small percentage is actually going to troops.

Well, I certainly hope someone other than me is looking into this.
Seems like there may be more under the surface than we’re seeing right now.
April 9th, 2007 at 2:18 pmBy the way, although Mrs\Ms\ Riza works for the World Bank, she also works for Vice President Dick Cheney’s daughter Liz Cheney, at the State Department working in Middle Eastern Affairs (pun not intended).
April 9th, 2007 at 2:27 pm[...] here. Comments [...]
April 9th, 2007 at 2:45 pmIf Mrs Riza is still married, I’d ask myself these questions.
1. Isn’t it some sort of violation of international protocol for a high ranking White House cabinet member to have an affair with a foriegn officials wife?
2. If they are married, isn’t it still some violation of international protocol or ettiquitte or something, to be banging the x-wife of a highly visible foriegn official?
3. Why would anyone let the story be known? After Clinton, dosen’t it seem they’d know how to keep this secret? Why’d it leak?
4. Have either of them considered how absurd “Shaha Wolfowitz” is going to sound?
April 9th, 2007 at 2:47 pmCorrection. Question number 2 is supposed to read:
2. If they are not married, isn’t it still some violation of international protocol or ettiquitte or something, to be banging the x-wife of a highly visible foriegn official?
April 9th, 2007 at 2:51 pmThanks for the quotes WORFEUS… any time neocons and Turkey come up in the same sentence like that my ears really perk up. I hope Congress will ungag Sibel Edmonds…
April 9th, 2007 at 2:56 pmThanks Dmesg.
Also I think it’s significant that this guy happens to be an expert on:
* Transportation of oil and gas from the Caspian region
At one point, someones going to start looking closer at where the oil has been going, and who’s been grabbing the loot from it.
Particular in the first 2 years of the war.
I think this guy might be an integral component in discovering all the facts.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:00 pmAlso I find it hard to believe that if this was a real woman, with breasts and stuff like that, that she’d go for the greasy little dried up comb licking prune eating Wolfowitz.
Something does smell right.
April 9th, 2007 at 3:01 pmCorrection.
Something doesn’t smell right.
April 9th, 2007 at 4:44 pmShe just after the money…
April 9th, 2007 at 5:19 pmExcept he looked and looked but could not find it. :-)
April 9th, 2007 at 5:27 pmQuestion.
I thought the right wing “frowned†on Adultery?
Also I find it hard to believe that if this was a real woman, with breasts and stuff like that, that she’d go for the greasy little dried up comb licking prune eating Wolfowitz.

The rightwing frowns only on the other side’s adultery. It’s a matter of “Do as we say–not as we do.”
April 9th, 2007 at 6:15 pmWell, Newt Gingrich, Henry Hyde and other repulsive Repugs also managed to get mistresses. Whether they were real women or not, I can’t say. Maybe you should ask our resident troll/lawyerette Vermin Venus/MA about that.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THIS UGLY DEFORMED GROTESQUE GARGOYLE OF A SO-CALLED HALF-MAN, A neo-CON-man WHO LIED US INTO Iraq AND THEN SKEDADDLED INTO THIS CUSHY JOB AT THE WORLD BANK COURTESY OF HIS FRIEND Monkey Boy CHIMPya—–WolfFARTWhizz, THE WAR-CRIMINAL ALONG WITH HIS BUTT-BUDDY DUMBSFailed—ALL neo-CONS SHOULD BE BURNED ALIVE AT THE STAKE FOR THEIR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AND WAR CRIMES, TO ASHES, TO BE SCATTERED TO THE FOUR WINDS AS A WARNING TO THOSE WHO WOULD FOLLOW IN THEIR FOLLY!!!!! April 9th, 2007 at 6:56 pmWhere is NBC, ABC and CBS on this? How’s about CNN? WaPo, USA Today?
If a former member of Clinton’s staff had done this….
April 9th, 2007 at 8:21 pm#55 Yeah, something like, “Sandy Berger did…so and so, not to mention so and so”. Funny sh!t.
April 9th, 2007 at 9:39 pmNo, Wolfowitz needs to be charged and tried for treason in the USA and when found guilty be executed OR tried for war crimes in the Hague and when found guilty spend the rest of his filthy life in prison.

Wolfowitz needs to be SHOT for his part in the LIES that Bush used to invade Iraq.

Comment by Mr. Bush Goes To Hell — April 9, 2007 @ 12:32 pm
April 10th, 2007 at 7:51 pmDoes anyone realize that Paul Wolfowitz IS STILL ACTUALLY MARRIED? It doesn’t seem to be mentioned much in MSM nor in blogs, but this man about town IS STILL MARRIED.
What does the right have to say about this comprised situation?
Probably not much which is why much of MSM is not talking…
I never thought I would see this much Authoritarianism in my time. I was hoping this might just be a jibe by writers to keep us on tract instead of an actual diatribe.
HELP!
