Bush invites Congress to White House for non-negotiations.

AP reports, “President Bush will invite Democrats to the White House to discuss their standoff over a war-funding bill, but he will not budge from his opposition to troop-withdrawal deadlines in Iraq.” When a reporter asked White House spokeswoman Dana Perino why lawmakers should attend the meeting if Bush won’t negotiate, Perino replied, “Maybe they need to hear again from the president about why he thinks it is foolish to set arbitrary timetables for withdrawal.”

UPDATE: Statement from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV):

The President is demanding that we renew his blank check for a war without end. Despite the fact that the President persists in trying to score political points at the expense of our troops, congressional Democrats have repeatedly reached out in the spirit of cooperation. We renew our request to work with him to produce a bipartisan bill that provides our troops and our veterans with every penny they need, but in turn, demands accountability.

The rookies in congress will get a lecture about the package plan that sounds like this…
Let’s be bold here today people and realize that the US Military is running the whole show. Nothing happens that they don’t want to happen. We are busy chattering away while the “Flesh Grinder” goes on. This happens to be the reason http://www.energybulletin.net/13737.html why the Military acting the way that it is. Should you read the article or the report you will come to the most important quote that reads, “currently, there is no viable substitute for petroleum.”
Shortly after you will read that, “energy consumption is indispensable to our standard of living and a necessity for the Army to carry out its mission. However, current trends are not sustainable. The impact of excessive, unsustainable energy consumption may undermine the very culture and activities it supports. There is no perfect energy source; all are used at a cost.” This happens to be what Bush & Co. have been suggesting since they arrived in Washington D.C. over six years ago.
The Executive Branch is the Military at this point and in general. Both parties realize that as more net oil exporters become net oil consumers the US looses supply. Worse than that Iran and before the invasion Iraq decided to abandon the dollar for the more valuable Euro. Saudi Arabia oil is now on a permanent decline, this creates a conundrum in OPEC. At the moment the Iraq invasion is preventing OPEC from moving to the Euro.
Iran’s oil if traded in Euros becomes the death nail for the US economy and so that is the reason we are still in Iraq. If the game was about revenge for 9-11 then sticking around to help revive the country seems to be in poor taste. Big plans need to be played out over long periods of time. Iraq is a staging and training area for the invasion of Iran that is soon to come.
Yes, I said training area since the US Military intends to use a conscripted army made of Iraqis to invade Iran. This method has been used for centuries and works quite well. We get the resources while the Iranians and Iraqis get to die over a blood feud created by the US & UK during the 1st World War.
Make no mistake; there will be NO WITHDRAWL from Iraq. Here and abroad it will appear that Bush is in trouble or that the parties are conflicted. This is simply DRAMA so we can “feel” like we have some degree of control over the government. It does not matter who we elect since in the end the Military has been in charge since the Civil War.
Should there be a popular uprising we will find ourselves in obvious Marshall Law. At the moment most are content to believe that, “The US would never start a war for oil or for revenge.” Many believe that 9-11 happened exactly how the 9-11 commission said it did. Accepting that an actual attack could happen at the same time several simulations of the same attack were in progress is a reach at best. It is easy to understand how our minds work. We simply operate from inside a wall of denial that refuses to allow us to accept the truth.
None of us want to see the US fall into a 3rd World status period; however accepting that the industrial revolution has ended leads us to the realization that we run the risk of going back to the “Stone Age.” The global population is too vast for this to be an easy, simple and pain free transition period. Most of us lack the coping skills to adapt to pre-industrial revolution energy levels.

All told, the Iraq Study Group has simply made the case for extending the war until foreign oil companies — presumably American ones — have guaranteed legal access to all of Iraq’s oil fields and until they are assured the best legal and financial terms possible.

arbitrary adj a. arising from will or caprice, b. selected at random without reason, c. despotic, d. tyrannical.

The bushco speechwriters would be well advised to learn the definition of any big words they feed the chimp. He usually ends up eating them, as with arbitrary timetables. The timetables proposed by the Democrats are anything but arbitrary. They were chosen in response to the will of the American Voters. There was certainly nothing capricious about the election as it was very clearly a well thought out and planned decision of the overwhelming majority of the thinking voters. The dates were not selected at random. They were chosen to provide maximum protection to our troops during their victorious return home from an illegal and arbitrary war at the earliest possible time.

On the other hand King George the Dumb’s willful, capricious, random, rambling (I threw this in for free because it just looked good there), unreasonable, despotic, and tyrannical refusal to accept the will of the people and return our troops home as long as he is King represents a truly arbitrary timetable.

Just 33 percent of the public approves of Bush’s job performance, the lowest of his presidency. That compares with 36 percent approval in early April. now disapprove of the president.

Just one-fourth of the public approves of the job Congress is doing, a new low in AP-Ipsos polling and down 5 percentage points since last month. A whopping 65 percent of conservatives disapprove of [Republican] Congress.

A majority of Americans say they want Democrats rather than Republicans to control Congress (51 percent to 34 percent). That’s the largest gap recorded by AP-Ipsos since Bush took office. Even 31 percent of conservatives want Republicans out of power.

Boy am I glad I know you aren’t my brother, but I digress.

It appears you do not have an argument, or for that matter an opinion, just cowardly one liners which you repeatedly spew in order to annoy the posters here.

Either, gain the courage required to hold a real opinion on the subject at hand, or go do the rest of the world a favour and conserve oxygen.

Now back to the subject at hand:

So in essence, Bush has renounced the balance of powers which have long been the open secret of America’s success, thus disparaging yet another example of what America actually stands for, in the name of colonial Brittish era jingoism.

Had I any faith in the Democrats not foreseeing a future of doing this themselves, I would state that the logical reply to Bush’s statement, is indeed to start talking impeachment. A point blank refusal to even think of planning troop withdrawals, kind of points to the fact that the man is entirely irresponsible and thus unsuited to any office higher then convict.

Though one good thing to come out of his reign has been conclusive proof once and for all that conservatives are indeed that stupid, this is not enough to mittigate the American and Iraqi lives that will be lost due to his refusal to even think about planning anything to do with the Iraq war in any manner beyond sketchy speeches and hiring idiots who stuffed up in Vietnam to do it all over again.

While I am sure you Americans are very amused by your pet chimp who is indeed no different to Robert Mugabe in terms of how much he respects human rights or the rule of law, it is time for you to do something.

America is supposed to be the country which leads as a shining example of what hard work, relatively honest government and strong reporting can achieve.

At the moment your current administration instead serves as an example of what laziness, graft and secrecy can achieve, which is to turn a first world country ranked as the world’s last super-power into nothing more then a third world hellhole.

If you want to see what more GW Bushes means for America, go look at New Orleans. Unless you impeach George, you will get more GW Bushes, and more of your cities will become like New Orleans.
