“A diverse collection of House Republicans has formed an ad hoc group to negotiate with the White House on a compromise Iraq spending bill… The group plans to hold talks with National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, who has been working behind the scenes to cement opposition among Republicans to the spending bill that would require U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq at some point.” Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-MD) says the group “will encourage the White House to compromise on negotiations with Syria and Iran and on setting a date for withdrawal from Iraq.”
Well, it’s about ime they got cracking.

April 10th, 2007 at 8:34 pmIt’s about freaking time…. maybe next year they will believe in Global Warming!
April 10th, 2007 at 8:34 pmConservatives on crack. I like it.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:35 pmSend Chainee to Syria and Iran with the peace treaties.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:42 pmHe can ride in the cargo hold home from Iraq with whatever humvees are salvagable.
No shore leave in Dubai……………..
I’m holding my breath, anxiously awaiting the wise words of Patrick1. Will this mean that the wavering Republicans are not Patriots; appeasers to the Islamo-fascists.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:43 pmBush ,Cheney and all people working in this administration know they have nothing to lose…no ‘re- election’ in 2008.
It is the Congress members that need to listen to the public and be compromising by 2008 elections, or they will have no return ticket to the House or Senate.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:44 pmHalliburton hasn’t made enough money yet. So Dick Cheney wants to keep the war going a little longer.

April 10th, 2007 at 8:52 pmThe only cracking the Repukes are doing is in their crack pipes.
Repukes are all psychopaths who snort meth and hump boys.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:54 pmPelosi knows the secrets of how Bush has been working with Syria. All Bush wants is the money he could care less about our troops. As for Hadley, he’s a puppet and he might have to change his name again when all the investigations are over and his criminal acts come out. Look Jack Abramoff is getting out of jail he will change his name and start working in the White House as a Bush appointee. The White House is loaded with employed criminals so Jack will fit right in. Cheney is packing up and moving his stolen money in overseas accounts.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:54 pmPelosi probably knows about the Sybil Edmonds case too.
Shes the FBI agent Chimpy put a Patriot Act gag order on.
She knows about the Turkish connection for heroin from Afghanistan to the US.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:03 pmThis is the big showdown. Will the Dems blink?
Will they give Chimpy what he wants, or shut him down.
The 2008 elections are riding on this.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:08 pmStephen the CAD-Ley WILL BE WORKING HIS neo-CON-man PITCH TO THE repugnant-repubs TO TOE THE white house TUSH-Bush-Land Uber Allies FASCIST-NAZI LINE TO ENSURE THAT THIS FLAWED Iraq STRATEGY GOES CAREENING FORWARD LIKE THE OUT-OF-CONTROL MONOLITH MONSTER IT IS, TO MAKE SURE THAT THE Military Industrial Complex and ITS CANCEROUS POLYPS LIKE Halliburton GET THEIR POUNDS, NAY, TONS OF FLESH IN BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF TAXPAYER MONEY FERRETED INTO THE POCKETS OF CHIMPya, FRANKENCheney, Rove, Rice, GONZOales(IS HE STILL HERE?????) and TUSH-Bush-Land Uber Allies!!!!!
April 10th, 2007 at 9:12 pmHadley seems more workable than much of that admin. Do ya think they will tell em’ about the new sherrif in town?
April 10th, 2007 at 9:13 pmThe dems have the stronger position. They have the nation behind them. The propaganda – which has been the life blood of the Bush administration – is now meaningless and flat. If the dems don’t take this chance to not only smack down Bush but to save the nation from the quagmire that is Iraq we will live to regret it.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:13 pm“If the dems don’t take this chance to not only smack down Bush but to save the nation from the quagmire that is Iraq we will live to regret it.”
Except for the troops that bush, patrick1, Michael, etal are supporting by sending them to Iraq to get blown up.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:22 pm#15. Roger, I agree with every word you wrote: the propaganda IS meaningless and flat. It’s starting to wear very thin, very quickly, and the Democrats DO have the upper hand. I just hope they realize it.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:28 pmWhat is with those fool Repignicans?? Are they afraid that setting a date will make America lose a police action they have already lost? In the mean time kids keep getting killed daily for no earthly reason other than Bush had some testosterone coursing through his veins and he enjoyed the tough guy feeling it gave him. I hope that if the “christians” are right and there is a heaven and a hell, the exit sign for hell says “all Repignicans exit here”
April 10th, 2007 at 9:32 pmCrackers crack.

…the REPULSIVESCUM conned’self-serving inbred TRAITORS…

They make it in a trailer.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:52 pmWe just returned from the annual township meeting where there was a proposal to put the question about leaving Iraq on the ballot — it failed. Again. We tried it last year too.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:53 pmThis is just to put the question on the ballot – not even the actual vote.
I just don’t know what it will take. People are that stupid – or blind – or brainwashed or what.
Blind acceptance and support by the 29%ers is all that is holding this Cabal together. But sanity is beginning to prevail, just too bad for the 3,000+ American dead and 20,000+ wounded, not to mention the 100’s of thousands of Iraqi lives and the loss of American support world-wide.
All for the ego and profit of a few!!
April 10th, 2007 at 10:03 pmThe only hope any Republican, up for re-election in 2008, has to win is to go against this god awful war for oil. The dying must stop now. Pass a bill to draft the first child in every republican family and see how soon they stop this foolishness. This war was lost by the republicans and they will pay for it for a long, long time. Their hope is they can delay long enough to blame it on the democrats who have had no say in government for twelve years.

I can’t believe that it is taking Americans this long to realize the amount of foul bile that is showered over them daily. The media is a powerful tool and people should never be able to use freedom of speech as an excuse to lie intentionally, to sway peoples ideology, to frame words, to create catch phrases and talking points repeated so often it becomes as, but not, the truth.
Government is not a food product or a pair of cheap tennis shoes to be marketed to the highest bidder, and those that are on television or radio should KNOW better than to use this medium as a means to empower corruption and help slide complex legislation under the salus populis’ nose by creating controvesy and echoing little lies, intentionally, to garner support for a warped political ideology bordering on monarchy and dictatorship.
I resent the fact that it takes hundreds of millions of dollars and backing from Corporate America to become the owned leader of this great nation, a system that locks out the common man and the truly best and brightest scholars and critical thnkers we have to offer. Today our Presidents rely on smear campaigns by slippery amoral political hacks. Hacks, Kranks and Shills who have taken a Freedom Operation for Democracy an oppressed people, then morphed it into a war for resources and empire.
I resent that we have so many groups of lobbysists that take precedence over the majority who wine and dine our elected officials making them no more than personal pets.
I resent FOX, CNN, ABC and ANY media outlet that takes part in such political shennanigans to dupe and mislead our great country into directions some politicians and corporate masters wish to take it for self-serving ends, mega profits and misguided wars.

…for their hateful “pride” to be diminished…
…they continue to play Russian Roulette with the lives of these youngsters…

This pertains, I think, to mostly the younger Limbaugh, Coulter, Oreilly crowd. I live in a very ‘Red’ state and I can tell you that most people here don’t act like Bore or Limbaugh. My neighbor is a Conservative and we talk about stuff and as recent polls show he doesn’t care for Bush and wants us out of Iraq. He sees congress as corrupt as I do. My Step-father (conservative) listens to FOX and knows an ex-senator personally and he even calls them crooks.
Sure the Trolls we get here are extremely biased but they are a minority and growing smaller. If they didn’t have the internet to hide behind they wouldn’t talk as they do. BTW the Christians here are mostly like me and not fanatics like Falwell or Robertson or the Hagee Islamic war for apocalypse kooks, in fact more stores sell beer and wine today than just a few years ago =) If they say they are not liberal they are lying lying to themselves, I grew up with them. Heh.

Glad to hear it Zep Tepi,
If you could just get them to put some FIRE under those red state Republican Senators and Congresspersons…
…to give the Democrats the 60 vote super majority they’ll need…
…to override Bushiva’s veto…
…and help IMPEACH, INCARCERATEand IMPOVERISH the Bushitesfor their crimes…
…the country/world would be most gratified…
April 10th, 2007 at 11:59 pmDumya whines and bitches and dishonors the troops by holding their tours of duty hostage to the will of the people: “I’m going to make them suffer if I don’t get my way!” Cowardly little ball of smegma…

Marie, it’s all of the above.
April 11th, 2007 at 10:48 amOf course they are willing to negotiate. They have been reassured by Petraus that the Iraqi’s will sign the bill giving 70% of their oil profits to the US and Britain by August (remember the secret meeting Andrea Mitchell blew the cover on). I am willing to bet the farm that once that bill is signed, we will begin withdrawing our combat troops. We will leave enough troops there to guard our newly acquired oil and the “Disneyland” embassy. And, I’m sure that is going to set really well with the Iraqi people. Iraq will be insane to sign that bill. They say they need an infusion of cash to get their oil fields up and running again and that’s why they are willing to sell their main natural resource to the US and Britain. They seem to forget the reason why they need the cash to fix their oil fields…it’s because we destroyed them. Anyone see a plan here? I sure do.
April 11th, 2007 at 11:10 am[...] In fact, congressional opponents of the war are remarkably united on efforts to set a timeline for redeployment, bolstered by consistent public opinion polls showing broad public support for withdrawal. Meanwhile, conservatives are splintering. This week, a “diverse collection of House Republicans has formed an ad hoc group” to encourage the White House “to compromise on negotiations with Syria and Iran and on setting a date for withdrawal from Iraq.” [...]
