“While acknowledging that it was not ‘OK’ for him to refer to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team as ‘nappy-headed hos,’ Don Imus said…the phrase ‘originated in the black community.’ Specifically, he stated: ‘I may be a white man, but I know that … young black women all through that society are demeaned and disparaged and disrespected … by their own black men and that they are called that name.’”
That makes it ok then, right?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:35 pmDon, can I talk crap about your mother, or is it only you can do that?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:35 pmYeah, the word “Kike” originated in the Jewish community. Hardly a defense for using it.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:38 pmCan I steal this quote from you, Jon Imus?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:43 pmmy mother used to talk about senile old bastards, is that ok too?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:44 pmHe is foul mouthed. He adds nothing to public discourse. Get the hook. Permanently.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:45 pmWhat about when he called Lester Holt “Homeboy” after a newsbreak on his show?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:45 pmDo I despise white people?
…many of them (not all)…
…those that I do are called Republican, Independent, and Democratic social “conservativesâ€â€¦
…I despise them because they hate:
…my Blackness- even though THEIR ancestors kidnapped, raped, and murdered MY ancestors, and they would exterminate my kind in a heartbeat if they could (without repercussions)…
…people who are homosexual (who God made)…
…poor working class Mexicans- who only want back what was taken from them by force…
…Indians- the rightful OWNERS of this land, whom they (racist white men) betrayed and all but exterminated…
…and pretty much anyone or anything DIFFERENT from themselves…
…EVEN their backwards, STEPFORD, bare-foot/pregnant white women slaves…
…who benefitted mostly from the suffering of the Black Civil Rights activists, and now that they’ve moved up in the corporate world (like Black self-hating Republican conservative TRAITORS) now want to roll back those gains/opportunities for others…
…NOW supporting and claiming to be “conservative Republicansâ€â€¦
…they (social conservatives) are (in my opinion) hateful inbreeders, ignorant isolationists (unless they can TAKE something- natural resources- that will benefit them and their breed), murderers, racists, and hypocrites…
…Imus has NO First Amendment right on the FCC controlled airwaves…
…if that was the case then WHY was CBS fined for Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction?
…Imus, Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly et al. all have a responsibility to ALL of the people in this country to be “responsible†in their pronouncements…
…because of the POWER the PRIVILEGE of DAILY being given a voice to express opinions on air to millions affords them…
…Why do you think that Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, O’Reilly et al. (who I suspect would dearly love to if they could without consequence)…
…don’t say outright to their inbred, ignorant, warmongering, murderous, racist, redneck, base….
…â€Kill every Liberal/Progressive, anti-War, illegal immigrant, fa***t and ni***r TRAITOR you can findâ€?
…they don’t because they understand that there are consequences to pay for such irresponsible hate-speech,especially should something happen that could directly be traced back to their words (see Nathan Hale and the KKK)…
…A post above says Imus has said that Bush and Cheney should be executed for war crimes…
…this is not a racist pronouncement, it is a LEGAL one…
…many say that Imus does a lot for Black children at his camp for kids with cancer (and is by implication a non-racist)…
…that’s a matter of personal interpretation what constitutes “a lotâ€, and does not illuminate his reasons for doing so (maybe he does so to cover his racist guilt or bury it?)…
…and it CERTAINLY does not give him the license to use racist statements on the air…
…I say this…
…IF Imus stays on the air fine and good, it wouldn’t surprise me given the fact that so many people in this country get their talking points from drug addled racists and bigots, and are by and large HYPOCRITES of the first order…
…but I’d like to see Black, Hispanic, Asian, Arab and other ethnic minorities…
…given DAILY license to exercise THEIR first amendment rights on air as the hacker bobs, old hacks, Dales and Darylls like to crow about…
…like a Louis Farrakhan, a Hugo Chavez, a young Fidel Castro, how about O.J., or a Leonard Pelletier?…
…Let’s be FAIR and BALANCED…
…instead of perpetuating white male privilege…
…that is the root of all EVIL in this country (and debate on race)…
…and if my description of social conservatives are seen as offensive…
…I apologize…
…that should make it alright…
…right?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:48 pm“I may be a white man, but I know that … young black women all through that society are demeaned and disparaged and disrespected … by their own black men and that they are called that name.”
So I’m just joining in the fun. Come on everyone, lets make funna da bitchez!
April 10th, 2007 at 6:55 pmImus, you are supposed to stop digging.
Obviously, you don’t understand the issue. Just because another jerk, white or black, has said something doesn’t give you a license to say the same thing. It is a failure to understand this basic fact that shows you have not learned a lesson, leaving you open to repeating the same mistake. In fact, if the stories are to be believed that this is not the first time you have been forced to apoligize for racist comments then it is only a matter of time before he does it again.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:57 pmbig papa,

Black hearted evil thugs.

***Standing ovation***
You kick ass.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:09 pmFirst he apologizes then he takes away his apology by adding another disparaging remark.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:23 pmI think Imus is a jerk and completely in the wrong on this one. He is a bigot, his remarks in the context of which they were used are racist and sexist.
HOWEVER it is TRUE that both sides perpetuate this issue.
How is it that these words by themselves “nappy” and “ho” are associated with blacks? Who uses them to describe blacks enough that when any person says them, I am automatically suppose to be thinking they are referring to “blacks” and being racist?
ALL sides involved should think about how we got here and how we can move forward to educate ourselves and talk about maybe WHY we think and feel the way we do.
It is never just the “what” (the facts of the event) or the “how” (within the context) that solves the issue, it’s “WHY does this happen?” that will lead to the root of the cause and hopefully a solution.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:26 pmDon Imus—A FECKLESS FOOL WHO OPENED HIS VILE YAP-TRAP ONCE TOO OFTEN AND ON THE WRONG TOPIC—FARE THEE WELL, HAIL AND FAREWELL, DOPE!!!!!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:27 pmAl Sharpton JUST kicked David Gregory’s a*s on Hardball…
…Gregory brought up the aC racists’ talking point about Sharpton’s Tawana Brawley situation…
…and Sharpton (rightly) asked Gregory what HIS (Sharpton’s) belief in a young Black woman’s (totally believable story)…
…about being raped by a group (3) white men (among them police)…
…something that has been historically documented in this country many times…
…what did THAT have to do with denigrating a whole race of people?
…Gregory was flabbergastedand had no comeback…
…typical…
April 10th, 2007 at 7:29 pmCum on ya’ll, cut him some slack. I’m-ass is just a good old boy, saying good old boy stuff. Hell, us real guys talk like that most of the time.

Comment by JP — April 10, 2007 @ 7:26 pm
I never associated either words, both of which I’ve heard on day time television at seperate times, as racist.
Thats one reason I’m having so much trouble with this.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:31 pmThe FCC has a list of words that broadcasters can’t say on the air.
Question?
IS Nappyheaded, or “ho” on it?
April 10th, 2007 at 7:32 pmFolks the only time we see the medias fascination with minority groups is when someone important denigrates a minority.Look at your TV ,it’s the only topic that the media think must involve minorites. How else can we explain a discussion panel where minorites out number whites.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:41 pmSo in an attempt to “discuss” racism the media shows how they condone racism.
So, by Imus’ reasoning…
If everyone craps on his mother, then I can too?
Just because ‘everyone’ does it or thinks it, doesn’t make it right. Remember when ‘everyone’ thought women shouldn’t vote? Remember when the world was flat?
True courage is doing what’s right, no matter what ‘everyone’ does.
So, now we know where Imus stands on the courage meter…..
April 10th, 2007 at 7:42 pmOh my god, Imus said that? ON THE AIR?
Is he fired? He better be fired.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:44 pmIS Nappyheaded, or “ho†on it?

Worfeus,
…to attempt to “defend” Don Imus in THIS situation is just like defending George W.Bush or Dick Cheney’s constant declarations…
…that “If 9/11 has taught us anything it is that oceans cannot protect us”,….
…then deftly slide into, “Saddam Hussein (Iraq) was a threat to America”…
…you know what the intent was in Bush/Cheney’s lies…
…yet Imus’ comment while running the tape of Black female collegians cannot (in your mind) be connected with “racism”…
…whether “Nappy headed (w)HO(re)s is or isnt on the FCC list…
…this is very suspect (on your part) in my opinion…
…it is no different from racist right wing trolls’ apologist attitudes and hypocrisy on any number of situations…
…that are well documented on these threads- like Trent Lott’s tribute to Strom Thurmond comments…
April 10th, 2007 at 7:48 pm…and HELL…
…we’re focusing in on Imus’ comment…
…what about his side-kick…
…and the “JIGABOOS” slur…
…so what if it’s a reference to a Spike Lee movie…

…and took the sly road to do it…

I am condemning everyones blowing this out of proportion.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:01 pmbig papa,
This shit just gives me the chills. I’d heard Imus said something outrageous, but didn’t know what it was until just now. What the f*ck is wrong with people!?
Your comments are just great, big papa.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:01 pmA couple of people in a culture refer to women in a deragotary matter means Imus can too?!!??!!
Does this guy ever shut the hell up?!?!?!
April 10th, 2007 at 8:02 pm“their own black men”?
That implies that black women belong only with black men and vice versa.
It reminds me of the time some radio talk show host said that by 2050 whites will be “a minority in their own country,” implying that this country is owned by whites.

So because I refuse to attribute a characteristic to a person that you insist I attribute, even though I don’t see it, then that makes me a racist right wing troll?

Sounds racist to me.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:05 pmFar far worse then the stupid comments of an un-funny old man…
* The corporate media ignored the Downing St. Memos which were smoking gun proof of the lies that sent us to war. The media had solid evidence of the worst crime in history and chose to ignore it.
* The media ignored the fact that thousands of minorities were scrubbed from the voter rolls in Florida in 2000, leading to victory for Bush.
* The media has never reported how deregulation has allowed them to create a monopoly of every outlet except the internet.
* Media never reported how close of a relationship Bush has with the Bin Ladins.
* Media never reports business stories from the point of labor, only management gets air time.
* Media didn’t bother to report that Habeas Corpus disappeared with the Military Commissions Act.
* Media never reports on Net Neutraility Issues.
* Media hardly ever mentions the Impending danger from our 9 trillion debt.
* Media never reported on the Freedom of Information Act being severely tightened up.
* Media never reported that Bankers LITERALLY wrote the Bankruptcy bill.
* Media never reported that oil industry execs secretly gather to write our energy policy.
*Media never reports on depleted uranium from munitions used in Iraq, which is a war crime.
I could go on and on and on. What a bunch of f*cing hyprocrits in the media castigating Don Imus.
As far as I’m concerned virtually every member of the media is guilty of collusion with Bushco. What they’ve done by ignoring these major issues is so much more heinous, horrible and scandalous then the words of a stupid untalented radio man.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:11 pmBut since I keep being accused of defending Don Imus, I might as well say this.
Nothing Don Imus says is going to be right wing many people right now. He can’t win regardless of what he says.
Everyone wants to see him prostrate on the ground in front of the teammembers and black activist leaders, like Sharpton (who wants the photo op) crying and lamenting and renting his clothes, like Vino Greasemineli did.
And just like when Vino Greasemineli did it, when he’s done, everyone will still tell hm to go f$$k himself, and his career will be finished.
No matter what he says, it won’t be good enough for everyone.
Everyone want to show what an anti racist they are, and jump on the scapegoat bandwagon.
Personally I think most of it is a bunch of self righteous malarky.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:13 pmWORFEUS,

Thanks Zooey,
I think it’s sad that someone so privileged…
…who COULD do so much MORE good…
…chooses to use his power so callously…
…the few times I watched Imus I was disappointed…
…especially with the two idiots he has as sidekicks…
…they ALL have racial issues…
…as do we all in America…
…but THEY are on the people’s airwaves…
…and THAT’s power…
…as far as rappers use of denigrating language/videos depictions of women…
…I find it sad but Sony, RCA, and all the big record companies won’t support “positive” rap…
…it doesn’t “sell”…
…and rather than have 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg and their video vixens (who aren’t forced at gunpoint to do those videos) …
…broke and on the streets with access to guns, no hope to make those megabucks, and angry as hell…
…well…
…think about the alternatives…
April 10th, 2007 at 8:14 pmSome say Imus’s comment is over move on, some say 2 weeks isn’t enough others say fire him. I would like to know what Mr. Imus would think of a public person with millions of viewers if that person called his daughters a whore. It’s so easy to move on, as millions grow to think comments like that are ok. You know get a slap on the hand and keep doing what your doing until you say it again, as young people learn racism.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:18 pmI guess McCain doesn’t have a problem with racism names called as he has a minority daughter, but then again he allowed Bush to do it. Racist bring racism and we can see now who they are. People forget their are white young woman on the team also, and the word whore was directed to them too.

I was glad to see your post #26 “not defending Imus”…
…I won’t deny that my own lack of understanding…

What do you think Imus’ intent was, when he called the girls “nappy-headed hos?” I mean, where else does one get a phrase like that, except from the deepest racist recesses of one’s mind?
April 10th, 2007 at 8:29 pmWORFEUS,
Ahhh the proof gambit.
Take a play from Dale’s playbook and require a “fact”, that’s so much more clever.
By the way I’m not trying to control anything. Are you paranoid?
April 10th, 2007 at 8:31 pmAS A AMERICAN I’M ASSHAMED OF MY NATION THAT SPAWNED A DON IMUS, AND THE STRONG FOLLOWING HE HAS. LISTEN with NEW EARS.
Remove YOUR prejudice, and LISTEN.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:45 pm“when he’s done, everyone will still tell hm to go f$$k himself, and his career will be finished”
Wow, now THERE’S a great loss.
“Just because NO ONE has YET to accept my challange to show ANY SIGN of racist intent in that statement you label me a troll and try to control my responses.”
Perhaps it isn’t seen as much of a challenge. Ask yourself: would Imus have used the phrase to describe the Pittsburgh Penguins? Why not? If the phrase has no racial or gender content, why would he not use it in that context? Why would he use it only in the context of (predominantly) black female athletes?
Actually, I almost agree with you in a way. This is not so much a sign of racial bigotry as it is unabashed crudeness that has been flooded into society with the assistance of talking head blowhards on radio and TV. He probably did think it was “funny”, or more to the point didn’t think at all. The standards of modern media have gotten so low that these monkeys don’t even put in any effort anymore. They just say whatever they want and the suits look the other way in the belief that whatever helps ratings is entirely acceptable.
Disgusting.

April 10th, 2007 at 8:51 pmYou guys have been listening to the soundbites the mindless media has been playing.
The CONVENIENTLY cut it off before and after so you don’t hear the context, but listen to the whole thing!.
The media is accusing him of saying that Rutgers didn’t deserve to win, but he is actually saying the OPPOSITE!!!
He is saying he is SURPRISED THEY LOST, because they ARE SO TOUGH!!!!!
Just listen to the WHOLE thing.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:51 pmIf any comment was designed to be racist I’d say his producers would be more inflamatory.
The “jigaboos” comment I immediately would identify as racist, close to the “n” word, and I would’ve fined him for that word, and I would assume that word is on the do not say on air list.
But Imus was trying to say he was surprised Rutgers lost. Thats clear. Which was an offcolor compliment in the way it was delivered.
It was a bad choice of words, he should be suspended and fined, and I think I’d fire his producer for his offcolor comment, which I did feel was intended to be derogatory. But I don’t see it in Imus’s remarks. Imus was trying to say they should have won, because they are rough and Tennessee looked “cute”.
If anyone should be mad at Imus it should be Tennessee for referring to them as “cute” which I do think was meant to be derogatory.
April 10th, 2007 at 8:57 pmWTF!!! HE CALLED YOUNG WOMEN NAPPY HEADED WHORES!!!! ON NATIONAL RADIO AND CABLE T.V. WHAT IS YOU DON’T GET?? PUT YOUR SISTER,MOTHER,AUNT,GRANDMA IN THE MIX ARE WE THAT FAR GONE IN THIS NATION THAT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT SIMPLE CONCEPT
April 10th, 2007 at 8:59 pmActually I take it back. I just listened to the tape again and its clear he was also pumping up Tennessee by pointing out how “ROUGH” the Rutgers team was.
His point was this.
“It was a hell of a win because the Rutgers team is so rough and tough”.
Listen to how at the end he says, “I’m not sure they wanted to beat Rutgers…. but they did….”
He CLEARLY was attempting to compliment both teams.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:05 pmRich, thats like one big long sentence I don’t think I’ll respond to.
But if you have a point to make, I’m all ears.
So far, I have challenged anyone to refute my facts, and all I’ve received back are insults, threats and mockery. While I enjoy the mockery, and some of the insults are pretty good, no one seems to be able to talk to the issue.
A lot of speculation, and esoteric bullshit, but no one is able to listen to the video and show me the racist or even derogatory intent.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:12 pmSome of you will probably call me a “ho” for my following opinion:
I knew Imus would be his own demise. He’s always insulted and demeaned his fellow human beings in the meanest way possible. Funny?? I think NOT! The few times I have watched the show I changed the channel out of embarassment when he started flinging the insults. He’s an arrogant hypocrit – his children’s ranch, above all else I’m sure is a wonderful tax write off for the MILLIONS he is over-payed. Can you imagine him actually having SINCERE compassion for a sick child – let alone any human being?? I can’t.
He needs to be knocked off his high horse – FIRED!
Imus is an arrogant, insincere egomaniac. Hopefully this is good riddance!
April 10th, 2007 at 9:17 pmBy the way.
Bill Maher is on Scarbourough Country, agreeing with me.

I dont know how calling a bunch of girls, ho´s can be a compliment.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:20 pmImus isn’t black. He still can’t say it on the radio.
The women say they were hurt by it.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:20 pmI am disgusted by Al Sharpton, who is clearly exploiting this situation to get his face on TV as often as possible. Say what you want about whether Imus is racist or not, but can someone point out to me what is being gained by all of this exposure and debate? Answer: NOTHING.
If you believe that Imus should be canned and shunned for this quote, then you certainly can’t support racists like Al “Diamond Merchant” Sharpton and Jesse “Hymietown” Jackson.
My guess is that the majority of people heard the 3-word quote Imus uttered without any context. He has a COMEDY show, people. You may not care for his humor. He calls his wife a “ho” all the time. Do you want him to be fired for that? If not, then is “nappy-headed” seriously a racist comment? Please. Plus, most of those girls have straightened hair…. Imus makes fun of EVERYONE (Catholics, Irish, etc.) Where are the Irish spokespeople on the Today Show asking for the I-Man’s head? Irish-Americans used to be oppressed, too, you know. It’s a sad society if we cannot poke fun at each other.
Imus was attempting (poorly) to satirize rappers with his quote. You can clearly hear him use an accent when he says it. This is kind of a throwaway point, but it is the truth.
Most people have NO knowledge of the man and what he stands for. He is an extremely charitable man, who spends a ton of time and money on many progressive causes, as well as running his ranch of kids with cancer (and other fatal diseases, such as sickle cell anemia). He was good friends with Bishop G.E. Patterson, and was a huge supporter of Harold Ford Jr.’s senate campaign. He helped to break the Blind Boys of Alabama. I think a man’s character needs to be understood before you label him as a bigot or racist. For those that know anything about him beyond this quote, he CLEARLY is a good person.
By putting this situation in the limelight, it is only breeding more racism. This issue should be dead. He has REPEATEDLY apologized to the Rutgers girls, who frankly are the only people he SHOULD have to apologize to! They don’t need Al Sharpton speaking for them, they’re adults…
His punishment should be this: for fewer people to listen to him. THAT’S IT. Since none of you listened in the first place, then it doesn’t really matter.
As Bill Maher calls it, all of this uproar is just “fake outrage.” It is tragic that this story leads national news shows, instead of, I don’t know, the war in Iraq!

LISTEN TO IT Juan.
Listen with your ears and your brain.
He is saying he is SURPRISED that Tennessee won because RUTGERS is SO TOUGH. Then he PRODUCER says they are “HARD CORE Ho’s, clearly continuing Imus’s train of thought that they are “ROUGH”.
Then Imus responds to that, continuing the “hos” but he wanted something other than hardcore. Nappy headed came out, but its clear he was trying to say they were TOUGH, and therefore he was surprised they lost to such a “cute” team as Tennessee.
He was ribbing Tennessee a little bit and complimenting them on their win over such a tough team.

Maybe not Joel. Maybe people are just so uncomfortable with the differences between us, that they are going to continue the racial witch hunt until we really do some damage to this country.
But as long as we attribute racist intentions where none were intended, we are never going to get beyond this point.

I agree. I admit that I don’t know what “Nappy headed” means and when it entered the lexicon. Ho-yes. I know what you mean. As a liberal if I don’t agree what he said was meant to be racist-that seems to make me one. Talk about lock step and talking points. This just proves “we” really can’t talk about race. I can have my mind changed. Now his side kick that said the “J” word is a racist. I have seen him at his ranch with the young cancer patients ( many terminal) with him teared up- I am not ready to burn him at the stake yet.
April 10th, 2007 at 9:51 pmSorry Worfeus, I can’t go along with you on this one.
I listened to the whole thing — twice, and frankly it was disgusting, sexist, and racist. Imus seemed to realize he’d said something wrong, but whoever was there with him just went on the their merry way with their “jigaboo” comments, and he joined them.
I don’t care if he was admiring them or not, he tore them down to the level of “nappy-headed hos,” and that’s not only racist, it’s sexist too.

I think thats the problem Joel. People are just too uncomfortable to really look at it. Rabid lunatics like Rich just come in and spew his anti-racist racist comments, and everyone just shows their hatred and rage against anyone who dares to say, “wait a second, that didn’t sound racist to me“…
One of them, Shane or PGW, I can’t remember which, took pleasure in mocking my watching Carlos Mencia, but the fact is Carlos Mencia and his show is dedicated to “talking about race” and tearing down our young peoples phobias so they don’t grow up to be as anal retentive about the topic as we are.
In fact, for those who get comedy central, he is on RIGHT NOW, mocking racism and the people engulfed in it. And he is mocking every race there is.
April 10th, 2007 at 10:01 pmJOEFRIDAY, YOUR MAN IMUS HAS A NATIONAL RADIO,TV BULL-SHIT SESSION 5 DAYS A WEEK. SO IF I UNDERSTAND YOUR REASONING IF I CONTIBUTE TO A GOOD CAUSE(AND I’M A MILLIONAIE MANY TIMES OVER) THAT INTITLES ME TO MAKE RACEST COMMENTS. KINDA LIKE A KING OR EMPIOR, RIGHT??
April 10th, 2007 at 10:01 pmImus should be punished, but it should be reasonable and appropriate. There seems to be many angry blacks including Sharpton and Jackson who are using this opportunistically to kick and scream and get attention. Didn’t Jackson refer to New York as Jew town or something along those lines? Face it, the Imus ranch will collapse if he is canned. The man can be an idiot, but he has done many good things. He was very vocal about the Bush administrations handling of the Katrina disaster and raised millions for seriously injured soldiers. I’m tired the likes of Sharpton and Jackson, creeps themselves, using others including the Rutgers team for their personal agendas. This is as much about racist blacks as it is about Imus being an idiot.

Didn’t Jackson refer to NY as Jew town? Imus did a bad thing and should be punished, but he should also be recognized for being an outspoken critic of Bush post Katrina and for raising millions for injured soldiers, along with the support he provides kids with cancer. The man is complex as are most of us humans. It appears to me that he and the Rutgers team are being exploited by angry black pundits who have a political agenda and want attention. There is dangerous racisim on all sides that needs to stop.

Comment by Zooey — April 10, 2007 @ 9:53 pm
So you can’t see that he was trying to say they were “tough? You can’t see how he was trying to use what he felt would make him sound “black”? I mean come on. Everyone today is trying to sound black.
You’ve never seen Jenny Jones try to sound black?
Hell ever hear Tyra Banks try to “sound black”? lol
Its clear to me that he was trying to compliment the Rutgers players for being so tough, and the Tennessee players for being able to beat such a hard core team, and he used a poor choice of words to do it.
I am not defending his words Zooey, and I agreed that he should be fined and I think the suspension is good. Why? Because he crossed the line with what he said. Its offensive to some and if he didn’t know, now he does. And a gesture needs to be made to show that is not acceptable if it is not acceptable.
But to dedicate a 24 hour news cycle, to have Al Sharpton REJECT his apology, demanding he prostrate himself before the team and demanding he be taken off radio?
Wild protests and picketing his show?
Claiming he meant it as derogatory when it clearly a review of the tape shows it was not, but instead was meant to compliment the toughness of a girls basketball team, and the prowess of the winning team in defeating such a tough team?
Its all bullshit.
Bullshit we’re blowing out of proportion and fueling hatred promoting a kind of witch hunt mentality looking for offenses where none were intended.
If Imus had meant it as racist I’d be all over him. But I don’t see it. And so far you have not addressed anything specific to prove otherwise.

April 10th, 2007 at 10:33 pmWorfeus,
Yes, I see that Imus was trying to sound tough, but he came across as idiotic and racist. Sure, in these days and times devoting 24 hours worth of news to Imus is stupid. Suspend him or fire him, and be done with it. A genuine apology would be fun, as well.
I only found out about this stupidity this afternoon, since I don’t have television. I don’t have clue as to what Sharpton is doing.
Maybe I look at this with different eyes, Worfeus. I understand that sometimes words have more power than a fist. I came from a 16 year marriage jam-packed with verbal and emotional abuse, so I know what words can do to a person.
Saying that he meant to compliment them is like beating the girls over the head just one more time.
You say if you thought Imus meant it as racist, you’d be all over him. Ok. I say Imus didn’t even give his words a moment’s thought, and just the fact that those particular words rolled off his tongue so easily proves that they’re a normal part of his everyday language.
That’s racist and sexist.
We don’t have to agree on everything, Worfeus, but I’d like to know that you understand the point I’m making. I understand your point, I simply don’t agree 100% with it.
Peace.
April 10th, 2007 at 10:36 pm“LOOK at who’s standing beside them!”

April 10th, 2007 at 10:44 pmHey WORFEUS and JRE,
I’M an “angry Black CITIZEN who has a political agenda and wants attention”…
…I want someone on television EVERY morning who espouses some of the racial sh*t I want to hear…
…I want some parity, some equity, some consideration, some fu*king RESPECT…
…you white men have EVERYTHING and STILL you want to be seen as victims when people call you on your DAMN racism!
…I’m NOT accepting YOUR baseless, unfounded interpretations because the fu*king EVIDENCE shows something different…
…and I didn’t see either of your heads pop out of Imus’ chest or a*s for you to be able to tell me with ANY degree of certainty…
…that YOU can tell me what was in his mind when he made those DESPICABLE comments!
…TWO questions for you:
1) After Imus realized he had caused a sh*t storm, did he and his “people” put their heads together to map out a strategy to de-escalate it?
2) Why was Al Sharpton’s Radio show (and not the Rutgers University gym) Imus’ FIRST stop on his “contrition tour”?
April 10th, 2007 at 10:51 pm“He was ribbing Tennessee a little bit and complimenting them on their win over such a tough team.
Why am I the only person who sees this?”
Um, no, you’re not. But you are the only person missing the bigger picture and instead repeating irrelevancies.
Suppose he said he was surprised that the Colts beat the Bears in the Super Bowl because Lovie Smith is a blacker than Tony Dungee, and was bred with bigger jigaboo thighs so he should be better at coaching those people. Would that be peachy because he “meant it as a compliment”?
April 10th, 2007 at 10:55 pmWorfeus:
Oh, and I’m surprised that a spic like Juan C can be so eloquent, but it must be because he’s a faggot.

That’s a good question, big papa.
I also saw an opportunity for Imus to stop this thing in it’s tracks right after he said those words. He called the girls that despicable name, and then there was a long pause, where I felt like he realized what he said was just plain horrible, and instead of stopping everything right then and saying, “Wait a minute, I just said something terrible, and I’m going to apologize to those young women in person,” he went along with whoever those idiots were in the studio. And then he goes to Sharpton — not Rutgers.

1. Don’t know. Wasn’t there. Considering the media’s attention to it it seems like they might want to have. But I don’t know.
2. Why was Sharptons radio show his first stop?
April 10th, 2007 at 11:06 pmBecause Al Sharpton is the frontman spearheaded this campaign of hatred against one old man who puts his foot in his mouth. Al Sharpton is the face of this. At least he’s trying pretty damn hard to be.

April 10th, 2007 at 11:07 pmShit, yes I said shit, so ban me…Here we go again 2 thread’s in one day on this when all people of color are dieing in an unjust war…..
Let me say once again, as I did several month’s ago I have never liked Imus or his nut bag show…Now having repeated that may I say, this is his dumb style, I did watch a few of his show’s before I became a critic..
It is my opinion that he was wrong, no doubt about it, however many are alway’s going to be wrong in actions and speech….(But now no one is dieing because of it)…None of this would have gone this far if Sharpton and all had just demanded an apolegy or treated it like a Coulter event and written into the station’s..
I watched all the show on replay today and then all of the black leaders comment’s and the college girl’s speeches….It’s past time to stop with the race junk, slamming women of any color and every one to mend fences with out taking any one’s heads….It appears Imus will be punished for his actions, let the old fool quietly go off in never land….I agree with WORFUS on this one…It’s dreadful but like I said before not life threatening……What we ned to do is stop the racial crap on both sides…Blessings all

Hey, I totally agree with this point. The media is a bunch of self-serving ho’s (nappy-headed or otherwise). None of that diminishes how much of a pig Imus is, although it does explain his thoughtless actions because he himself is a self-serving media ho.
Oh, the irony.
April 10th, 2007 at 11:09 pmOk, a guy on the daily show just called the Israeli ambassador a “bitch”.

When Don Imus said what he said, he was clearly enthused about the toughness of the Rutgers team. In his zeal he said something really stupid, and that some people find offensive. To me I don’t see it as that derogatory but I am not a woman. Since the team is racially diverse, assuming that the comment was intended to be racist is absurd.

My point exactly BP.
They are not the same.
Richards comment was racist, and intended to hurt and be racist.
And his career was ruined, but there was not so much fuss about it. Richards was a very famous actor. Seinfelds is on in like a million countries and it runs in the us every day on about 15 channels.
Yet there wasn’t this much fuss over it.
Imus said something that was not really intended to hurt or to be racist, and we’re treating him worse than Richards, and making a huge fuss over it.

I have been very vocal in my indignation over the disenfranchisement of black voters across this country, particular in Broward county Florida in the 00 race.
It is very real and it sickens me.
April 11th, 2007 at 12:10 amI’m sure you’re not saying that these college women can’t think for themselves.
Comment by Zooey — April 10, 2007 @ 10:44 pm
Sorry Zooey, missed this one too.
Of course not. I am just saying that they are NOT doing that now.
Clearly they are being pressured by Sharpton and others. You can’t see that?
April 11th, 2007 at 12:13 amOk. if I missed anything else you can ping me tomorrow.
Chow for now.
April 11th, 2007 at 12:18 amClearly they are being pressured by Sharpton and others. You can’t see that?
Comment by WORFEUS
Yes, I see that. I’m saying I’m sure they were aware there was a problem BEFORE Sharopton got involved. Just like they’re surely aware they’re being used now.
April 11th, 2007 at 12:21 amAs if “nappy headed ho’s” or “jig-a-boos” isn’t bad enough,Imus should be terminated for no other reason than he being an insulting and craggy old fool. He always has been, always will be.
April 11th, 2007 at 3:59 amIt also seems to me that the only people defending him are fellow broadcasters, who just might fear similar sanctions against themselves.
Or those who need Imus to sell their books.Or this WORFEUS know it all.
#126 – Comment by DUFIOUS — April 11, 2007 @ 3:59 am
THANKS, DUFIOUS. You said the truth about Imus. Imus’ termination, if it comes, will only be decades late.
And, you can ignore WHOREFEUS. He is just a NASTY, FILTHY TROLL who richly deserves to be ignored!
April 11th, 2007 at 4:18 amI say Imus didn’t even give his words a moment’s thought, and just the fact that those particular words rolled off his tongue so easily proves that they’re a normal part of his everyday language.
That’s racist and sexist.
Listen, don’t put words in my mouth. Ok?
Comment by Zooey — April 10, 2007 @ 11:41 pm
Agreed !peace.
April 11th, 2007 at 7:53 amWORFEUS is the only person on this board who has it right, plain and simple.
April 11th, 2007 at 9:02 amAl Sharpton is EXPLOITING these women to get himself on TV. You cannot deny that.
April 11th, 2007 at 9:06 amThere are
April 11th, 2007 at 9:36 am11,423 songs about breaking up…
8,517 songs about making up…
and 9,422 songs about “nappy headed hos”.
It also seems to me that the only people defending him are fellow broadcasters, who just might fear similar sanctions against themselves.

Gee. My Moniker’s been parodied.
I’m touched.
Problem is genius, I am NOT defended Don Imus.
I am just CONDEMNING the rabid foaming at the mouth frenzy that knuckleheads like you are making over this.
April 11th, 2007 at 10:52 amAnd, you can ignore WHOREFEUS. He is just a NASTY, FILTHY TROLL who richly deserves to be ignored!

Yes. Anyone who dares disagree with your position is just a nasty filthy troll.
Forget other opinions. Yours is the only one.
Smear anyone who dares question.
How progressive of you.
April 11th, 2007 at 10:55 amCNN , MSNBC, all of em, devoting 24/7 news cycles to this crap.
Right now we are hearing the life stories of these poor mistreated “college studentsâ€.
They are sooooo damaged by this remark by Don Imus. I am listening to Essence Carson, the captian of the team, crying about how she and the team was “soooooo hurtâ€.
Give me a break.
If these college students are soooooooo hurt by one little poorly phrased compliment by a shock jock, maybe we should all chip in to buy them glass bubbles to live in, so they won’t have to deal with life.
This is a joke.
The team is acting like a bunch of spoiled prima donna’s.
And you people are doing nothing but feeding the frenzy for a tiny little molehill which you have all turned into a mountain.
Heckuvajob.
April 11th, 2007 at 11:23 amIn ancient Israel, the Israelites had a custom of the killing of the “SAIRâ€, or the “Scapegoatâ€.
Each year, a goat was selected, and a ceremony which laid the sins of the people on this one single goat.
Then they took the goat to a high place and pushed it off the cliff.
So you guys got your scapegoat.
A single old man who an entire country is casting their guilt and shame from their own inherint racism.
So now I guess its time to push him off the cliff.
April 11th, 2007 at 11:24 amInteresting, because zipperheads have been using Clinton for that purpose for decades.
April 11th, 2007 at 11:58 amThose well practiced in remaining woefully uninformed wouldn’t be expected to know that Imus approached Sharpton FIRST.
April 11th, 2007 at 12:00 pmSo now I guess its time to push him off the cliff.

“…I am NOT defended Don Imus…”
Other than the fact that you can’t form a proper sentence, you have in fact done NOTHING but defend Imus’ slur of the Rutgers Women’s Basket Ball team. You have called his slur a “COMPLIMENT!”
If Imus’ slur was a “compliment,”then let me compliment you: you lyin’, NeoCon-sucking, overbearing, preachy, pompous, low-life-scum-sucking, whoring TROLL!
Now don’t get all offensive and attack my character, like a “spoiled prima donna” (WHOREFEUS comment #137, casting a slur on the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team ala Imus, while he whines “…I am NOT defended Don Imus…” in #135).
Take my compliment and STFU! That’s what you want the team, Rev. Sharpton, Rev. Jackson, the “black community in DC,” and me to do; so take your own advice, Troll!

Comment by A Complete Idiot April 11, 2007 @ 6:22 pm
On your best day you don’t have the grammatical dexterity that I do on my worst you grammer school throwback. If all you are reduced to is catching typos, then indeed you have demonstrated what a pitiful pundit for your cause you turned out to be.
As for your peabrain attempts to make my argument for me, you can kiss my ass.
I NEVER defended what Imus said, nor him for that matter.
I am not defending what he said I am condemning self righteous peices of shit like you.
Just because I won’t jump on your hate speech stump skippy, doesn’t mean I am somehow defending him.
You’re a liar. If you think that my condemning idiots like you who try to ascribe to people YOUR meanings for THEIR words, then you’re too stupid to even respond to, because you’re too stupid to understand the difference between discerning a persons intent by the context in which he spoke and bearing false witness against him, just because inbred jackasses like you demand that we do.
You set yourself up as a banner of enlightenment, when in reality you stomp around demanding that others embrace your hate speech and persecution of individuals because you decided that person is a racist.
Well I didn’t see his racism in the comment, what I saw was a guy trying to console the Rutgers team on their loss by telling them they are “tough and shouldn’t have lost” and it came out very badly, because he used the wrong words. I condmened him for using those words (read my comments dumbass) and also condemned people like you for blowing it way out of proportion, and fueling the fires of racism and hate.
P.S
You can kiss my ass.
April 11th, 2007 at 6:40 pmBetter stick to catching typos there Rosa Parks.
God knows you ain’t got nothing else.

Not a chance cowboy, your ass has been too worked over by Imus while you CONDEMNED those who disagree with you, including those you recklessly label “prima donnas” (you weren’t being judgemental, of course, just WHITE SUPREMEST like Imus from whom you were cloned!).
I(mus) WHORFEUS = TROLL = PRIMA DONnA! = NOT WORTHY OF KISSING THE ASSES OF THE RUTGERS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM
Now don’t fret, I am simply trying to “CONSOLE” you on the loss of your tether to reality. Take your own advice Troll, and STFU!

I don’t even listen to Imus you quack.
And now I’m a white “supremest”?
Because I called a team of well to do multi-racial team “prima donna’s?
Well, ok.
Just as long as you don’t call me a white supremacist.
April 11th, 2007 at 7:06 pmIdiot.

What did they do?
What did this basket ball team do? Other than be called a name?
Even IF Imus meant to insult them, which he clearly didn’t, but even if that had been his intention, what the hell makes these women suddenly guilded saints?
Cause they lost a ball game and got called a name?
:|
They’re lucky they’re not Red Sox.
April 11th, 2007 at 7:09 pm#148 – Comment by I(mus) WHOREFEUS — April 11, 2007 @ 7:09 pm
I(mus) WHOREFEUS: You were called some names by me and some others, and you spewed out a lot of hate. Of course, you don’t have the class and upbringing of the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team. They didn’t spew any hate. They didn’t claim the right to CONDEMN anybody. All they did was say that Imus’ slur hurt. I’m sure it did, even coming from a jerk like Imus.
April 11th, 2007 at 7:25 pmyou don’t have the class and upbringing of the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team. .
Comment by hterrya — April 11, 2007 @ 7:25 pm
I could have had your class and upbringing but my parents were married.
April 11th, 2007 at 8:00 pmThey didn’t spew any hate.
Comment by haterrya — April 11, 2007 @ 7:25 pm
I never said they did.
But they are too small apparently to accept an apology.
April 11th, 2007 at 8:04 pmAnd they’re clearly not as tough as Don Imus was trying to give them credit for.
Tough people don’t get their feelings hurt from an off the cuff remark that was never intended to hurt their feelings.
April 11th, 2007 at 8:05 pmI THINK THAT IF YOU WHICH HIS SHOW EACH DAY FAITHFULLY,LIKE I DO. YOU WILL SEE THAT HE MAKES COMMENTS LIKE THIS A LOT. AND IMUS WAS REALLY TRYING TO SAY THAT THE RUTGERS BASKETBALL TEAM HAD MORE TATOOS THAT THE RAPTORS BASKETBALL TEAM . AND NEWS PEOPLE BLOW IT OUT OF PORPOTION. AND ALSO HE IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW PEOLPE WHO HELP KIDS WITH CANCER. HE WAS THE ONE WHO HELPED & DID SOMETHING ABOUT HURRICANE KATRINA VICTOMS. THE WHOLE THING IS THAT THEY ARE JUST JEALOUS OF IMUS MAKING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR. BUT IMUS MAY MAKE MILLIONS, BUT HE GIVES TO CHARITY. HE ALSO RAISED OVER HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAS FOR CHARITY. BUT THE MAIN THING IS THAT PEOLPE JUMP TO CONCLUSION BEFORE THEY EVEN ANALYSIS THE FACTS GIVEN TO THEM.
April 11th, 2007 at 8:30 pmImus unplugged,it’s a big hit. LOL
April 12th, 2007 at 1:56 amBig Papa is a white hating, ignorant piece of shit.
Nappy headed ho!
April 13th, 2007 at 2:45 pmI think what Imus said was inappropriate but at the same note, I know that if it would’ve been someone in the black community that said the phrase; there would be no issue what so ever. This man and his family have done many things to help improve our society with fundraisers and charity and then he gets blasted for saying something of that nature. He is known for his expressive opinions on certain subjects and his fan base is created off of that vibe. I wonder how many charities he was involved in, that in one way or other, helped the black community or families. Do I think an apology was needed? Yes. Do I think that his job should’ve been at stake for any reason? No. Do I think it’s okay for the black community to pull out their racist card anytime something of this nature happens? No. Give me a break. This is just the cherry to the entire dish that is exploited everyday from the black community and I think it is time to just get over it and move on. It was time to move on after his first apology. We have more important things to be worrying about in our society than an outlandish phrase used by Imus. We are fighting a war, there is poverty, sexually transmitted diseases, sex offenders with minors and the list goes on and on and on, and the only thing that people are concerned about right now is Imus. He’s not worth it nor are his comments, it was an opinion of his, at the time. Apology accepted.
