Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA) just held a briefing on their bipartisan delegation to the Middle East last week.
Lantos, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a Holocaust survivor, was sharply critical of attacks on Pelosi over the trip to Syria. “I do not know whether it was more pathetic or more hypocritical,” he said, noting the various Republicans who also visited Syria last week. “I was appalled at the attempt by the administration to minimize and to mischaracterize the nature of the mission.”
Pelosi addressed Vice President Cheney’s remarks on the Rush Limbaugh show about her trip. “I think he accused me of bad behavior, sounding sort of father figure-ish,” Pelosi said, suggesting that Cheney would rather have her “stay home.” Lantos interjected, “Maybe in the kitchen.” Watch it:
Transcript:
LANTOS: I want to say a word about the criticism that has been leveled at the trip. I do not know whether it was more pathetic or more hypocritical to have criticism for opening a dialogue when two days prior to our visit, three Republican colleagues visited with Assad. In our delegation, there was a distinguished Republican colleague. And two days after our visit, there was a California Republican colleague who visited Syria and met with Assad — speaks for itself.
I believe that unless you have questions about the criticism this is all I want to say about it. But I was appalled at the attempt by the administration to minimize and to mischaracterize the nature of the mission.
+++
PELOSI: Well, the Vice President — I think he accused me of bad behavior, sounding sort of father figure-ish, and probably “stay home,” but we don’t accept those instructions.
LANTOS: Maybe in the kitchen.
PELOSI: But it was quite a remarkable thing. I think it’s an indication of the poverty of ideas of this administration to bring peace to the region.
The nadir to which this administration will go is utterly amazing. They have zippo credibility at this point and look like a bunch of wimpish, whining babies.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:30 pmBefore you trolls start slamming Tom Lantos, let me point out that he is a Holocaust survivor and fought with the anti-Nazi Hungarian resistance. Eat your collective hearts out, CACA (Chickenhawks of America).
April 10th, 2007 at 6:31 pmCheney appears on Rush Limbaugh’s show. Well that explains a lot.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:32 pmUs redneck Republicans understand that it is God’s word that you women should stay barefoot and pregnant. The audacity of women running men is a disgrace to all real men everywhere.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:34 pmWe all know where Chainee likes to cower… underground in his padded bunker…. he only goes overseas when he is summoned by his saudi king.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:34 pmhe’d piss his pants if he had to go to Syria……….
My President wanted her to stay home. Why doesn’t she obey her master? She should be charged with sedition.

April 10th, 2007 at 6:37 pmCan I get you another 12 pack, redneck and proud?
April 10th, 2007 at 6:38 pmIf Russ Limbaugh said it, then it MUST be true!
April 10th, 2007 at 6:42 pmThe Great Leader Bush will not bother listening to this woman. He will veto the war funding bill, then she will cower back to the House and make a bill of exactly what Bush is asking. It is her duty as a woman to serve her men. She will do as he says!
April 10th, 2007 at 6:45 pmAlright folks, cancha tell when a troll is being paradied?
The redneck is a parody.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:50 pmI still want to have his rabies….
April 10th, 2007 at 6:51 pmWhy do you think Bush married Laura, the Stepford wife? She not only married drunken, addicted moron but when she realized her mistake and tried to leave him, her m-in-law laid the law down. Threats or bribes? We will never know for sure. But the Stepford wife made her deal and she is the “ideal republican woman,” standing by her man, wearing her frozen smile.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:52 pmpoverty of ideas…
ouch. good one pelosi.
when will this administration realize that going on the offensive at this point only offers more opportunities to criticize them? wait, sorry, stupid question.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:53 pmI think #4 is actually a joke, mocking rethugs..
April 10th, 2007 at 6:53 pmA bankruptcy of ideas … ya that is the republican party of today… you cant lead a bunch of lemings otherwise…followers are not thinkers.
April 10th, 2007 at 6:53 pmYeh you tell them Lantos that’ll certainly get the womens vote in Oh Ate!
HAHAHAHA!!
Maybe we could put Michael in a an apron and get him elected!! Maybe we can even get Mihcael on the Lush Rimjob show and let Lush show him his ‘clinton cigar’ trick. Maybe even that trick where them pills just roll up on his desk and pop into his mouth!
I just know that would get the Neo-Kook vote, as well as mine!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:02 pmYou go Girl!! Give this spoiled brat a spanking!!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:06 pmI do not know whether it was more pathetic or more hypocritical to have criticism for opening a dialogue when two days prior to our visit, three Republican colleagues visited with Assad.
Awesome. Simply AWESOME. I hope the MSM picks this up and puts in on the front page. I doubt it will happen but that needs to be said loudly and often in the next couple of days.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:07 pmRedneck is a toothless wonder. Hopelessly trash.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:11 pmCheney had told Senator Lehey to F*** Off, shot his friend in the face with a shotgun, and has continually lied about everything since he became Vice President. On what basis can he possibly tell House Speaker Pelosi that she has engaged in “bad behavior”?
April 10th, 2007 at 7:11 pmPelosi 1, Cheney 000000oo0oo0oo0000wned!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:12 pmpoverty of ideas
I don’t think it is a poverty of ideas. I think it’s more that their ideas are terribly centered on self interest and hiding the goal of their ideas is paramount to making it work for them.
For the most part (or whole part for that matter), their ideas are not working and are a detriment of the US.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:14 pmCheney has been too busy collecting his cash funneled straight from “Axis of evil” member Iran and through Halliburton into his checking account.
Nice work Deadeye Dick, maybe you can buy your new grandchild a copy of Rev. Dobson’s latest book.

April 10th, 2007 at 7:14 pmIt’s a shame this WH is so totally out of touch that the people know more than they think we know….that just days before Nancy went, a cadre of Rethugs were sent there to try to convince Assad NOT to let her in our “outsourced torture”….hahaha! What a bunch of dweebs.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:18 pmI have wondered with whom the Bush Administration ‘dealt’ with when they renditioned ‘enemy combatants’ to that country??
April 10th, 2007 at 7:28 pm5-deferment dickhead Cheney & Rush Limpdick- two sniveling, cravenly, cowardly draft-dodgers. What was it that Cheney said on the Senate floor? Oh, yeah, F*CK you Cheney!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:33 pmAND FRANKENCheney CAN STAY IN THE MACHINE SHOP WHERE THEY CAN TIGHTEN ALL HIS NOOSE BOLTS AND NUTS–HE HAS A LOT OF THOSE NOOSE NUTS, ESPECIALLY IN HIS DISEASED WARPED MIND—AND Limburger CAN STAY IN THE TUTU SHOP PICKING OUT A TASTEFUL LAVENDER OUTFIT FOR HIS NEXT IMPROMPTU WEBCAM TRAVESTY IN WHICH HE DOES AN ALL-STAR GALA WITH CHIMPya AND FRANKENCheney and Rush, ALL THREE CLODS DRESSED IN SEE-THROUGH TUTUS, EACH WITH A ROARING HARD-ON, PRANCING ABOUT AND WHRLING AROUND LIKE DERVISHES—I THOUGHT ALL THREE OF YA JOKERS DIDN’T LIKE MUSLIMS OR SUFIS, FOR THAT MATTER??? OOPS, Torticola JUST CLUTCHED HIS CHEST AND GRIMACED, FALLING TO THE STUDIO FLOOR—MEDIC!!!!! MEDIC!!!!!!! HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!!! HAH!!!!!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:34 pmA shame that we still have to waste time and our future with discredited Cheney and Bush’s nonsense.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:35 pmToo bad Pelosi cannot tell Cheney how she really feels.
For now, this slap will have to do.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:39 pm“An indication of the poverty of ideas from this administration” – Speaker Pelosi
Boom!!! Absolutely damn straight, Nancy!!! God bless this woman!!!
April 10th, 2007 at 7:43 pmPELOSI: But it was quite a remarkable thing. I think it’s an indication of the poverty of ideas of this administration to bring peace to the region.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is the finest F*CK YOU I have ever witnessed.
Nancy Pelosi, you are a goddess.
April 10th, 2007 at 7:48 pmMrs. Cheney is well trained I guess. Cheney cowarded out of the military because of his wife after he used up 5 deferments. Not really a man anyone would look up to. As for Bush he was to drunk to even know what was going on. Karl Rove made the decision Bush read about it the next day in the paper. No one tells Bush anything except when he’s pushed up to talk. I guess all the talk Karen Huges is being paid for is really bull. Connie Rice being Secretary of State was just a favor for a bed bunny of GW. What happen with all the talk about Connie, Laura or Elizabeth Dole becoming the first woman President. What a joke these Republicans are. Nice to know Republicans think woman should only be used for votes then send them back to the kitchen. Question can Connie Rice Cook?

So, what is the George Bush’s excuse? He is not 80, or a woman. Was he simply born incompetent?

April 10th, 2007 at 11:34 pmThis is not a Republican/Democrat thing. The executive branch makes foreign policy. That’s how we do things in America. When Bill Clinton was president it was wrong for former President Jimmy Carter to run around the world trying to make policy, and it was wrong for Pelosi to do it.
As for Lantos, my apologies. He still sounds pretty sharp.
And I don’t dislike Nancy Pelosi. She is a strong supporter of Israel. And she is attractive. She’s just wrong and naive when it comes to foreign policy. That’s all.

You may want to keep up: There was a Congressional Republican delegation in Syria before Pelosi’s visit and another one after. And there were Republican Congressmen in Pelosi’s delegation too.
So much for the “isolating Syria” talking point.
Also, Pelosi told Pres Bush of her impending visit before she went to Syrian and he didn’t object.
It is true that it is the Executive branch makes foreign policy. But Pres Bush’s policy towards Syria is non-existent beyond rhetoric and a few easy slogans. Moreover, what Pelosi and other Congress people expected to accomplish was to fulfill their own Constitutional duties, since they are in charge of the strings to the purse.

April 11th, 2007 at 12:22 am#73 Ok, VV, you are consistent on this issue. I disagree that we should only have diplomatic relations with our friends. Especially considering WE support Jundullah. Actually, there is. Pres Bush won’t talk to Assad. Someone has to. Congress does not set foreign policy, but they can certainly meet with foreign leaders to find common ground and overlapping interests.
This is not the first Congressional delegation in history to visit, and meet with, a foreign leader, you know?
Their is little to differentiate Assad and Nazrallah.
You probably meant “there is”, and I bet the Lebanese beg to differ.
(Such basic spelling errors, Varmint Genus -tsk, tsk, tsk)
The best type of negotiation with these leaders is the type that tamed Mohamar Quadaffi.
Er, that would be diplomacy, Varmint Genus, not any kind of military threat a la Bush Doctrine. After the Lockerbie trial, Lybia approached the British government and initiated the trilateral talks that eventually led to the announcement of Lybia’s decision to give up their WMDs program.
That is the type of negotiation you are talking about, yes?

April 11th, 2007 at 2:30 amTeam Hollywoodnews.com announces, ‘The bloggers,’ citizen journalists’ and mainstream media’s gateway for past, future and present intel: Dr. Jack Wheeler’s http://www.tothepointnews.com‘
WASHINGTON, April 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Team Hollywoodnews.com today announces that Dr. Jack Wheeler’s controversial news article, “Two Women In the Middle East” is building traction amongst Bloggers, citizen journalists and the mainstream media. As the story continues its momentum, Team Hollywood requests that all comments and inquiries be directed to Dr. Jack Wheeler’s website link, relating to the article, at http://www.tothepointnews.com/content/view/2721/44/ .
According to Blogger, Pundit 10, “Dr. Jack Wheeler’s Pelosi article is a primary example of the reasons that as Bloggers and citizen journalists, we no longer depend upon the mainstream media as our only, single source for stories to blog about. Had a Blooger not been a member of Dr. Jack Wheeler’s http://www.tothepointnews.com, the story of Moslem women and their desires for liberty and democracy would have been swept beneath the rug of Pelosi headscarf visuals.”
Dr. Jack Wheeler’s To The Point News.com article exposed one of the biggest stories circulating the Middle-East last week surrounding Nouriya Al- Subeeh; a Moslem woman, elected as a member of the Kuwaiti Parliament and Minister of Education, who broke the sacred “Sharia” Islamic by refusing to wear her headscarf in Parliament. The article tells the story, as Dr. Wheeler words in his article, “From the perspective of thoughtful Moslems that think it truly astonishing that so called ‘feminist’ American women don’t advocate freedom and equality for Moslem women.” In the view of those Moslem women, the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s ’submission and inferiority’ to men “hijab” headscarf does not advocate freedom and equality for Moslem women.
Dr. Jack Wheeler, the Founder and creator of To The Point News.com is the man, many, including the Wall Street Journal call “the originator of the Reagan Doctrine.” He will continue providing newsworthy intel on recent Middle East relations, democracy in the Middle East and will continue his reports on the Islamo fascism movement that is also embraced by the worlds Moslem men and women favoring human rights, democracy and liberty.
Dr. Wheeler has often been called a “real life Indiana Jones” and is part of a mix of historical figures Stephen Spielberg used (along with his own imagination) to create his fictional character. In the 1980’s Dr. Wheeler conducted a series of extensive visits to anti-Soviet guerrilla insurgencies in Nicaragua, Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Laos and Afghanistan and to democracy movements in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, becoming an unofficial liaison between them and the Reagan White House. Based on Dr. Wheeler’s experiences with Anti-Soviet insurgencies, Jack developed the strategy for dismantling the Soviet Empire adopted by the White House known as the “Reagan Doctrine.” It worked.
Dr. Wheeler writes in his controversial Speaker of the House Pelosi’s article, “There were two pictures taken this week of two women in the Middle East. Which woman do you think is a greater advocate of America’s most cherished values of Liberty and human rights?” Dr. Wheeler continues, “Which woman do you think has more courage to fight for these rights, and woman’s rights in particular? The picture of the woman wearing the Moslem headscarf or ‘hijab’ denoting submission and inferiority to men is American, Nancy Pelosi, who demeaned herself in front of the World in Damascus, Syria. The other picture of a woman wearing no headscarf is Nouriya Al-Subeeh, a Moslem who has been elected to the Kuwaiti Parliament and Minister of Education. Her picture was in every newspaper in the Middle East this week, as she refused to wear her headscarf in Parliament, provoking a furious reaction by Islamist parliamentarians, denouncing her for breaking sacred ‘Sharia’ Islamic Law. She smiled and in effect told them to get lost.”

April 11th, 2007 at 2:33 amSyria, joined at the hip with Iran, have((SIC) occupied Lebanon for years, fulmented(SIC) terror through Hezbollah, killed more Americans than Al Queda and you want to “make nice Don’t forget the recent assasination of Lebanese politco Hariri (sp?) which started the Cedar Revolution in Lebanon.

Funny that VV/MA is worried about her/his spelling of a Lebanese politician ’s name(which was miraculously spelled correctly), while using a plural verb to modify Syria, a singular subject, and reverting to her old bad habit of erroneously writing “fomenting” as “fulmenting”–a mistake pointed out by both me and others in the past. I guess some fake lawyerettes are just slow learners, or maybe they never learn.
