At least five retired generals

By Amanda Terkel on Apr 12th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

At least five retired generals

have turned down the position of war “czar,” according to CBS’s David Martin. He adds that the search for a war coordinator “is a confession that in the fifth year of the war in Iraq, the Bush administration still has not figured out how to harness all the agencies of the U.S. government into a unified war effort.”

This is what a Gentlemen’s C at Harvard gets you.

  2. veritas says:

They just can’t seem to give this one away….because the handwriting is on the wall that this individual will be Bush’s new fall guy and go to prison for the way Bush botched the war.

How about a “peace czar”, Dumbya??

  3. GSD says:

Bush is finally at a point where no one is willing to bail him out. They had their chance with the Baker/Hamilton commission and everyone saw what was doen with that.

This clown is going to have a breakdown.

  4. Dr Benway says:

Let’s be fair about this. I am sure it took at least this long for the US to figure the same thing out for both World Wars One and Two.

  5. Badmoodman says:

Bush administration still has not figured out how to harness all the agencies of the U.S. government into a unified war effort.” – - Yeah, political patronage and cronyism tends not to translate into the military. Who knew?

  6. Fed the Fcuk Up! says:

What did you expect? Who would want to have the title “Director of Murder” on their resume?

FYI: We are not at war. There is not a declared war. You all keep using the terminology in ignorance and it only helps to support the effort. How many bricks need to hit you in the head before you wake up?

  7. Briseadh na Faire says:

The position comes with a wonderful retirement plan … at The Hague.

Always thought we should have one of those. If the US put the same amount of effort and money into world welfare as we put into world domination, I can’t imagine we wouldn’t be more secure.

  9. Badmoodman says:

Dr.: “Let’s be fair about this. I am sure it took at least this long for the US to figure the same thing out for both World Wars One and Two.” – - Ummm, by THIS time in those conflicts, surrender papers had been signed and we were months into reconstruction.

I’m sorry the last time I read Article II, of our beloved but temporarily stretched out for nefarious reasons, Constitution, that power was vested solely with the Executive, namely #43. Seems like the President is trying to pawn off the faux pas of his foreign policy on the very people he has abused. What a freakin surprise. I don’t ever want to hear about Ted Kennedy being irresponsible. More people have died in Iraq than in Ted’s car.

  11. TomPaine says:

I think it’s funny that GEN Keane (Ret.), the man who pushed the surge, just said I dont want that job, especially now that the Baghdad Surge Security Plan doesnt seem to be working as they set a bomb off inside one of the most secured areas in the world. You’re talking about 3-4 security checkpoints to get to there.

  12. null says:

Why not just offer them the job of minefield tester. What no takers?

  13. Pete Bogs says:

the position is a losing proposition…

  14. djames says:

i see cbs shut down the comments section of the piece prior to the 72 hour limit… wonder why? (he, he)

  15. Its_Me_Ya_Krazy says:

I’ll take the job! as my first act of czar, i delcare”WAR” is offically over… thanks, can i get paid now?

  16. Zimzone says:

    How about Limpballs or Insannity?
They’re so knowledgeable about everything Dumpya does, they’d make perfect candidates.
They could put their minds to work instead of mouths and show America how really, really brave they are.
The fact they’re both dropouts could be waived, based on the new Army lowered criteria, and the fact they’re both dumbshits could only increase their odds of getting the job.
In fact, Limpballs considers himself a Czar already. Sean just considers himself pretty, but that’s another story.
    ‘Seanshank Reduction’, perhaps?

  17. raynman says:

This is like being offered the captaincy of the Titanic… you get to wear a pretty uniform, but the ending kind of sucks.

  18. Central Scrutinizer says:

If you don’t want to perform your duties of commander in chief there is another alternative that you should consider!!!!!!! And take your lying piece o’ VP with ya!

my goal is to find a cure for irony and make a fool outta god

  19. Bob Jones the All Star says:

If I may add to Raynman,

Its like being offered the captaincy of the Titanic after the iceberg has hit and the ship has already started to tear into pieces.

  20. Crump's Brother says:

Who wants to be the guy that takes the blame for this fiasco?

  21. SouthWest Bob says:

Isn’t this the job description for the “commander in chief?” Is he looking for another title. . . how about “impeached and convicted former president?”

  22. idlecrank says:

Wait a minute, I thought Bush was a “War President” what’s he need a “War Czar” for anyway? And if we do get a “War Czar” does this mean Bush isn’t the “Decider” anymore?

And what about an “Email Czar” while we’re at it?

  23. Dr Benway says:

Badmoodman: That was sorta the point.

Its a sad statement about the rightwingers that our sarcasm is too easily mistaken for trollish comments.

  24. Dr Benway says:

I know of at least two people who have shown an interest in taking over management of this war. I believe “President” Bush met with them just today. Of course, I speak of Sen Ried and Madam Speaker Pelosi.

  25. chimpeach says:

If you’ve got a Commander in Chief and a Secretary of Defense, what the hell is a “war czar” needed for? Is it because SecDef isn’t doing exactly what Bush wants him to? And since when has Bush ever been ready to admit that he wasn’t completely in control of everything? I’m guessing this is just so he has someone else he can blame for the mess over there.

  26. tom baker says:

    I nominate Pat Robertson.

  27. Central Scrutinizer says:

Obviously, dubya doesn’t want to perform his duties as president! Not that he has up to this point…but I can’t remember him having said as much so clearly before now.

my goal is to find a cure for irony and make a fool outta god

  28. Pickleloaf says:

    Dr. Benway @4:22
Here’s a math problem for you,how many years between Dec 7,1941 and Sept 2,1945 ? Give up?
It took the US, 3 years 10 months to defeat Germany and Japan ,from start to finish. That was fighting two different wars at once, thousands of miles apart!
We” in our 5th year with no end in sight!
What kind of Doctor are you, anyway?

  29. VerbalKint says:

#25 That is exactly right chimpeach, Gates is showing a little bit too much independence, so Karl and Dick are putting together a workaround.

  30. Chuck U. Farley says:

Don’t kid yourself about no one wanting this job, but be very, very afraid of the people who will take it.

  31. Badger says:

This is BUSH’s WAR!!! His People , his plan, his responsibility. He got EVERYTHING he asked for, in spite of massive fraud and incompetence. He vetoed nothing, he fired no one.Commander in Chief means HE”S RESPONSIBLE. Period!!

  32. Dr Benway says:

    Pickleloaf @ 5:00,

What kind of Doctor are you, anyway? One that understands sarcasm.

  33. Temper Tantrums says:

    I VOTE TO SEND

Republican Senator Mitch McConnell the American Troop Murderer of all.

and as his back – up

Republican House Member John Boehner yet another Killer of US Troops.

the individual that LIVES off of soldiers’ blood through rydex mutuals at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

This man has so much blood on his hands he could fill the American Red Cross Blood Drive UP.

Let the murderers try to survive in their own blood bath.

  34. Gregor Samsa says:

Will the Bush administration consider outsourcing the position of Commander in Chief to India?

It will probably be a lot cheaper, but the press conferences will have to be held at ungodly hours.

  35. Gregor Samsa says:

I know someone the Bush administration will find is the perfect fit: Never been in the military, had something to do with a horse organization at some point, knows nothing about government but did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.

What else could the White House possibly ask for in a candidate?

    /sarcasm off

  36. Raymond Funamoto says:

NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WANTS TO BE THE “FALL GUY” FOR Monkey Boy CHIMPya’s FAILED Iraq STRATEGY—I GUESS YA ARE GOING TO HAVE TO FACE THE MUSIC, CHIMPya and FRANKENCheney—YOU WON’T FIND ANYONE STUPID ENOUGH TO TAKE THE RAP FOR YOUSE!!!!!
