Couldn’t agree more that the more pertinent discussion is the one you outline. However, this thread is now so far off the radar screen that it’s doubtful the conversation will progress. Next time the topic pops up, hopefully it won’t be hijacked.

The issue is CNN’s irresponsibility in allowing Beck to use public-franchised communications facilities to denigrate and villify specific persons and groups without having to face the consequences of the damage his words cause.

Words can heal and words can hurt. Beck’s words hurt people who have not been given the same power and platform by CNN, as it has to Beck, to defend themselves from Beck’s ad hominem attacks. CNN (a public franchise) has allowed Beck to go on hurting, denigrating and villifying with impunity.

CNN and its advertizers need to be held accountable for their irresponsibility.

I never said he “intended racist slander”. You are changing the argument. You (repeatedly) asked someone, ANYONE, to respond to your contention that Imus intended the comment as a compliment. I responded to it, and then you changed the argument. How can you be so intellectually dishonest?

I doubt the guy intended it as racist slander. He’s gotten paid large sums of money for many years for being an abrasive a-hole and he’s always gotten away with it, so at this point his mouth moves faster than his brain.
