Gingrich suggested creating war ‘czar.’

A few weeks ago, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich sent a memo to the White House advocating the creation of a high-powered “czar” to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as part of an 18-point plan. At least five retired generals have turned down the job.

Another politician with ideas on how to win the war in Iraq. Another Repug who never served in the military who knows it all!

    Newt for President 2008!!

  2. Jason Baddo says:

BY appointing a czar the war on ______ (fill in the blank) is really an admission of defeat. Check the history.

  3. ForTruth says:

This position will become the new fall guy in bush’s legacy on whom the entire debacle in Iraq will be blamed and pinned. No wonder there’s no takers. The fact that Newt, the Toot suggested it means that it’s a total con.

  4. Briseadh na Faire says:

So let Gingrich be the “War Czar.” He too can be brought up on international war crimes charges!

  5. Topper Harley says:

War Czar. Shit. Bush might as well start taking resumes for a white house court jester. Oh never mind. What was I thinking. Dana Perino has already filled that position.

Newts famous for creating many charts with lots of numbers and figures, percents and ratios, estimates and averages, pluses and minuses

Ufortunately people aren’t numbers and have actual emotions.

  9. Mary Ellen says:

So, is this war czar going to be appointed or does he have to have Senate Approval? I think everybody knows that whoever it will be is going to be blamed for everything that continues to go wrong with this war. Those who turned it down aren’t foolish enough to think that they will have any impact on the decision making….just a puppet who will take the fall for Bush.

  10. bdrube says:

It figures that an idea that monumentally dumb would come from Gingrich.

  11. ForTruth says:

This position should be called – Bush puppet czar instead.

#4 – not gonna happen. It is the trademark of Republicans that they create grand plans that require impossible work from others, take all the credit, refuse any of the blame, and find reasons in their opponents for the inherent flaws of their own design.

  17. Yachts and Lattes says:

I just don’t get this war czar talk. The President has made two things clear:

    1. He is the decider.
    2. He only listens to the generals “on the ground.”

If we are to accept this, where does the war czar fit into that org chart?

Oh yeh, my bother came over and his wife and son and we had dinner and some drinks. They are conservatives (for the most part, but nothing like our inane trolls) and we have had some pretty good conversation albeit our perspectives don’t always agree. =)

I’m taking 4 classes: Geology & lab, Sociology, Social Problems, and Speech class. All quite lovely, except the Speech class – hate that, but love the prof – it’s required, so I’m getting it out of the way. :-)

  36. Jay Randal says:

The proposed War Czar would be appointed position, and not approved by Senate confirmation process, so Newt Gingrich gave this suggestion to Bush as a way to skirt Congressional oversight of the Iraq and Afghanistan occupations. If the Congress allows this, then they have all committed suicide.

I lived in Church Point & Breaux Bridge, LA, from 1981 to 1986. Ex worked for Petroleum Helicopters at the time. Loved the people, the food, and the music, but the humidity almost drove me mad — so I moved to Oregon, go figure. Heh.

I’m only an Idahoan because I’ve lived here for 14 years, I’m originally from California!

I used to look forward to the thunder storms in the afternoon, because at least then the air would move. I’d be sitting on my porch swing enjoying the storm, and my neighbors would be cowering under their sofas. :-D Told ya it was driving me mad!

  54. Paul in LA says:

Calling him the former House speaker is a MAJOR UNDERSTATEMENT of his role in this debacle.

He has his own parking space at the Pentagon. He was Rumsfeld’s political advisor, and considers himself a military strategy expert.

He is FULLY complicit in the illegal Iraq invasion lies, planning (what there was of it) and the commission of that heinous act.

He is a Class A Warcriminal.

Bush, by suggesting this, has committed yet another standalone impeachable offense (dereliction of duty, the abandonment of duty).

  55. Perry Logan says:

Newt’s had an idea! The republic is saved!

  56. Tobey Tall says:

U already have a useless Commander in Grief so whats the point

  57. AboveTheClouds says:

You mean “disgraced, former House Speaker Republican” Newt Gingrich, who resigned amid scandal and corruption, suggested creating war ‘czar.’

  58. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:

What, another 18 point plan by Newt Gingrich… American doesn’t need anything from Newt. We remember how his last plan turned out… his “Contract ON America”… oh, that was “contract with America”. Somehow it came out as a contract that slowly started to destroy Americans’ freedom. No more contracts from Newt. He can place his contracts where the sun doesn’t shine. Just more recyled old Republican crap.

  59. Proud Dem says:

As Keith Olbermann said two nights ago…

Isn’t the President the “War Czar”? If not, then who is the Commander-in- Chief? If he doesn’t want the job anymore….?

See where I’m going with this?

  60. Marie says:

A war czar is a transparent attempt to absolve Bush of his responsibility and create a fall guy in the process. No wonder there are no takers; but I expect a fool will be found soon.
Gingrich is ingratiating himself with Bush only to satisfy his own goals; and proposing this outrageous plan to Bush appeals to Bush’s character flaw of always seeking someone else to clean up his mess.
Meanwhile, the search goes on to find a brainwashed sycophant who is willing to sacrifice himself on the altar of Bush.
Commander in chief? Merely a title that has served its usefulness to W.

  61. theswan says:

“war czar” sounds like something out of the cold war soviet union. And, yes the administration more than likely likes the sound of it.

  62. kelso says:

Why not create a President czar??

  63. sentry says:

Someone should point these politicians to the Federalist papers, specifically paper no. 74…it clearly states that war is to be directed by a single hand….the president’s hand as the commander in chief.

Furthermore, Article II of the Constitution is pretty clear about a president who is “inable” or shows “inability” to fulfill his oaths.

I am of the impression that because managing a war is the essential duty of the CIC, that this war czar position is not only abhorrible, but it is also illegal as well.

The president’s judgment should be called into question over this, and the legality of the measure should be challenged.

  64. Bluedog49 says:

War czar? Great idea. The person would be sort of a Commander of all the armed forces. In fact, he may be considered a “Chief Commander” of all forces. It is a position which needs to be filled quickly.

  65. Like Bush’s War Czar Plan? Then Thank Newt Gingrich says:

[...] an 18-point proposal on dealing with Iraq to the White House; one of these points called for the creation of a war czar. In an interview with the Washington Post yesterday, Gingrich said the following [...]

  66. Paul in LA says:

The two obvious choices for War Zar have military experience:

    • VP Al Gore

    • Senator John Kerry

Both are qualified, something Bush never was. Both WON their elections (that Bush stole). Both are loyal to the rightful gov’t of the United States. And both have wives who are still happily married to them, unlike the divorcee in chief with the drinking problem.
