Lieberman: Critics Of Bush’s Iraq Policy Are Engaging ‘In A Kind of Harassment’

This morning on Fox and Friends, Sen. Joe Lieberman declared, “I’m with McCain. I think that we are making progress over there” in Iraq. He went on to blast the majority of his Senate colleagues who have voted to begin a phased withdrawal from Iraq. Lieberman said, “I say to them…you ought to be fighting to cut the funding off instead of entering into a kind of harassment that’s involved now.” He concluded by arguing Bush’s escalation plan ought to go forward “without us back biting from here.” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2007/04/liebermanwithmc.320.240.flv]

The escalating violence in Iraq this year belies Lieberman and McCain’s arguments that “we’re making progress.” The escalation strategy, which officially began on Feb. 14 and sent 30,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq, has shown “little sign” of “accomplishing its main purpose.” In the past few months, there have been nine U.S. helicopter downings, at least nine chlorine bomb attacks, an increase in car bombs, and increasing attacks inside the Green Zone.

And on top of that, Will Bunch notes, “So far, according to icasualties.org, 47 American troops and six British soliders have died in the 11 days of April so far — an average of 4.82 coalition deaths every day. And — looking at the month to month statistics — no month has been that high since Baghdad fell on April 9, 2003.”

Digg It!

Transcript:

HOST: Ever since the election we were looking forward to getting him back. Joe Lieberman from the Russell rotunda. Welcome back, Senator.

LIEBERMAN: Great to be back guys, thank you. I hope you are doing well.

HOST: We are. When I want to find out what’s going to Iraq i go to you, Senator McCain and Senator Biden. Now they have a disagreement on where we are going in Iraq. Where are you standing?

LIEBERMAN: I’m with McCain. I think that we are making progress over there with the new general, new troops, new plan. We are at a war. It’s not all going to be good news from Iraq. But the most significant developments are that in Baghdad the capital city, the sectarian violence is down as a result of our new program and al anbar to the west where al Qaeda was beginning to take over an entire province of Iraq, the Sunni tribal leaders and iraqi army and our military working together to knock them down. That’s progress. I always say success is not guaranteed in a war but l can tell you, if we begin to telegraph the day we are going to withdraw our troops that is guaranteed failure and a terrible defeat for america.

HOST: Senator, how do you feel that members from your former party are, in some people’s words, playing politics with a war?

LIEBERMAN: Well, I still am a registered Democrat though I won as an independent. I call myself an independent democrat. I don’t like to question people’s motives. Some people are genuinely against the war. And I say to them if you are genuinely against the war, then you ought to be fighting to cut the funding off instead of entering into a kind of harassment that’s involved now. I mean, I have said that we ought to declare a political — a truce in the political war over the real war in iraq and let general petraeus and our soldiers try to make some progress in that real war. In the summer Petraeus says he is going to come back here and tell us straight talk whether he thinks progress is being made and we can succeed there. we ought to let him have the opportunity to do that without us back biting from here.

  1. jeff says:

well then maybe there needs to be a definition of progress so we’re not constantly having to have a debate over whether there is progress. and if progress can’t be defined then everyone needs to shut up and get out of Iraq.

  2. Tom3 says:

Joe Loserman wants us to shut the hell up and support our glorious Chimp-in-Chief.

Meanwhile, insurgents today bombed the Iraqi Parliament cafeteria, killng at least 2 Iraqi Members of Parliament and wounding 15. And in other news, a suicide truck bomb took down a span of a Baghdad bridge, throwing cars into the Tigris. At least 10 dead.

Yeah, we’re winning in Iraq. So shut up and stop harassing Chimpy.

    LOL!!

  3. Zooey says:

Shut the f*ck up, Lieberman, you snivelling traitor.

  4. TripMaster Monkey says:

LIEberman misses the good old days of the Rubberstamp Congress.

  5. hil says:

    f*ck you traitor!

  6. jeff says:

    politics is harassment
noone votes for votes. they vote around veto overrides. majorities don’t matter -super majorities do.
he knows a super majority don’t support withdrawal and he wants the democrat party to overplay it’s hand and lose.
he’s a dick and can drop dead.

  7. Nicollo MacPlato says:

Now you have Joe the Ho doing the baiting of the Democrats to cut off funding for the war so that the blame can be switched away from the IncompetentCorruptAmericanPrince. If you ask me this is a blink by this pathetic excuse for a senator.

Joe here exposes that he’s on the inside and that the inside knows they blew this war.

  8. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid says:

So, Bush’s plan should be allowed to go forward with no timelines or measurable targets? Ah, the blank check. I thought the Bush administration was all about “accountability.”

“Accountability.” You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

  9. firehead says:

You bet they are. Back off and let the President win the war.

Of course, libs don’t want us to win the war. Failure means Hillary wins in 08. Anything for a victory I guess.

    Scum.

  10. Tom3 says:

Loseman may be a registered Democrat but he’s no longer in the party.

Anybody can register for any party they want, so that is meaningless.

Party rules forbid running against the party nominee, so Loserman could get kicked out of the next Democratic convention. He definitely won’t get any more support from the state party.

  11. Norman Conquest says:

    LIEBERMAN: I’m with McCain.

    I’m with stupid.

  12. ct says:

joe is the greatest lib (soon to be a GOP star) that has ever lived.

  13. hil says:

#6 Its democratic party. Don’t let the underhanded rhetoric permeate. We have to be careful of such things they see victory even in the minutia

  14. ct says:

    he is a registered independent

  15. Tom3 says:

I see the first Repuke troll of the morning has woken up from his drunken stupor and crawled out from under his bridge. Good morning troll!!

Typical Repuke talking point smear – Librrruls want us to “lose the war” so they can win the election. Typical Repuke LIE.

We are NEVER going to “win the war” because it isn’t a war. We are occupying a hostile foreign country and they want us to leave.

Repukes can’t handle the truth, so they smear those eeeevil Librrrruls.

  16. kelso says:

“I say to them…you ought to be fighting to cut the funding off instead of entering into a kind of harassment that’s involved now.”

Yeah? And what kind of chickenshite things will you say about them if they did what you just said the ‘ought to be’ doing??

    Frickin’ turncoat p. o. s.

  17. TripMaster Monkey says:

    ct sez:

    he is a registered independent

Yup…just like our buddy Shakey Jake…and about as honest.

  18. hil says:

This guy makes me want to buy a plane ticket to CT so i can personally slap every registerd “democrat” right across the face.

way to go guys! really… thanks for this one!

  19. Tom3 says:

Yet another dumbass Repuke troll who has a crush on Loserman. Maybe you can tongue kiss him like Chimpy did, you closet case.

Loserman says himself that he is still a registered Democrat.. Obviously this troll is a prime example of an illiterate inbred redneck Repuke.

You Repuke trolls can go back under your bridge now.

  20. Zimzone says:

    Joe LIEberman (I) I=Israel

The RNC got him re-elected by dumping a boatload of money into his pathetic campaign, so they emboldened ‘the enemy’, right?

Go to the Green Zone, Joe. They may have a surprise party planned for you.

    What a dipshit.

  21. Lou K says:

typical Holy Joe mealy mouth sniveling administration assmooch. Sending him another case of chap stick. LOL @ Holy Joe being independent ANYTHING

  22. Tom3 says:

The US Army is expert at taking and occupying land. It is their job.

The Army knows from a century of experience in occupying countries exactly how to do it. It takes 1 soldier for every 50 civilians. They used this rule when occupying Germany after WW2, and it worked.

General Shinseki applied the same knowledge and came up with the real number of troops Chimpy would need to hold Iraq after taking it.

Chimpy and Rummy decided they were smarter than the experts and sacked Shinseki. Now it is 4 years later and we are bogged down in an unsuccessful occupation.

Iraq is a failure. And it is Chimpy’s fault 100%.

  23. tarazan says:

Of course ,if Lieberman lost a son or a relative in this war ,or his son or daughter lost a leg or an arm in this war he will not be calling critcism of this war a ‘harassment’.
It is well known that, it is easier to make statements about wars than to fight them…

  24. And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid says:

#9 firehead: Go ahead and win the war then. You’ve had 4 years to do anything you want in Iraq and you’ve failed on every front. Now you’re asking for an undefined timeframe and an unlimited budget. Forget it. You guys DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING. The American people want it to stop.

  25. ct says:

you cant run as indy unless you register as one. but but fear not – the fact that you are a moron is still as accurate as it was yesterday

  26. Keith H. says:

I must vote for this clown because he always looks like he
has one foot in the grave.

  27. jeff says:

firehead on any given day I don’t give a crap about Iraq.
I’m very much anti Jihad, but not sure how 2 deal with it.
I think Nation Building is a non starter.
And I think Bush needs this war to stay out of impeachment proceedings.
Americans aren’t going 2 throw their stupid president under the bus right now, but just you wait.

btw shouldn’t you be serving? You are aware that your warriors are tired?

  28. Marie says:

What is Lieberman accomplishing with all of this? He has alienated forever all the Democrats; he is aligning himself with a losing policy and a lame president. How can he possibly see that this is the right course for him? Is he blind? Is this his ginormous ego speaking?
Is he that shallow-thinking? Is this really about Israel? Incredibly, are his first loyalties really there instead of America?
I really would like to know what makes the man tick – while all of the sarcastic remarks (and I have made numerous ones myself) are justified, they don’t really address what the hell is the man thinking?!

  29. RandyBastard says:

I just love this constant harrassment from Republicans like Lieberman:

“Cut off the funding. C’mon, cut off the funding. I dare you! Cut off the funding. Cut off the funding. Cut off the funding. Cut off the funding. C’mon, cut off the funding. C’mon, c’mon, cut off the funding. C’mon, cut off the funding. Please please please cut off the funding. Stick your tongue on that frozen pole. C’mon, Stick your tongue on that frozen pole. Stick your tongue on that frozen pole. Stick your tongue on that frozen pole!!”

    STFU!!!

  30. Reg says:

Just think how close that unspeakable creature came to being VP.

  31. Joe says:

firehead – don’t accuse liberals of rooting for defeat for political gain. We were against this war from the beginning, even when the president was riding high in the polls, when he used the war to kick the shit out of the democratic party in 02. And we still stand against this misbegotten murderous War For Nothing.

  32. GSD says:

I hope the people of Connecticut are proud of this assclown.

I never realized that support for Dumbya was so strong out east.

  34. Keith H. says:

    That was supposed to say:

    I think people must vote for this clown . . . .

  35. ct says:

damn anyone with a different view. damn them all to hell!!! praise alla!

  36. Matthew says:

WIN the war?! How would we know if we have won the war? What needs to take place for the U.S. to win the war?

  37. sesame says:

Completely OT, I just want to vent about Sam Seder’s show being taken off weekdays. Sorry, but I just shelled our $77 for XM so I could pick up Air America and now they are replacing him with this Lionel person? Guess I’ll be cancelling my subscription when it runs out.

Sorry, I’m just mad. Tomorrow is his last day.

  38. ann says:

I feel harrassed every time Lieberman opens his mouth.

  39. Overdrv99 says:

    #27 Jeff,

Firehead can’t serve because his Mom took away his Big Wheel and he is locked in her basement til he does his chores! That’s why he is on her computer all day, voting for the next American Idol winner when not showing his ignorance on TP.

  40. Tom3 says:

Loserman’s votes came from independents and Repukes mostly.

The Repuke candidate was a joke. A used car salesman type.

Loserman also got a lot of votes from hard hats in the defense industry, which is big in CT.

  41. Paula W. says:

We’ve already lost the war. Lieberman is full of shit, as usual.

They like the war, fine. They can go fight it.

I have XM too. I didn’t even know they were taking him off. Haven’t listened much this week.
I have been in the car for Ed Schultz’s show. They certainly could give somebody that time slot. I guess we better email Air America. Thanks for the info.

  47. Tom3 says:

We are not even in a war in Iraq. We are an occupying army.

Occupations of hostile nations never work. History shows us that.

Eventually we are going to have to leave. Meanwhile, its a meatgrinder.

The intelligent decision would be to cut our losses and get out now.

But intelligent decisions are not a hallmark of the Chimpy regime.

  48. Patrick1 says:

Republickin axium#1 = Our base is the stupidist of the stupids and the more pathetic and/or ugly the lie, the more our base will buy into it. (Karl Rove, Frank Luntz)

  52. Mr. Bush Goes To Hell says:

Bush, Cheney and Lieberman should be leading the surge in Iraq.

Show us how TOUGH you are, TRAITORS.

The Iraqis would have their heads on poles quickly.

  53. JAG says:

Lieberman and McCain must be breathing in each others farts. NO one can be so delerious about Iraq except someone suffering from oxygen starvation. The idea that “progress” is being made in Iraq is ludicrous. Anyone reading any news story on any day can see the carnage. A bridge was blown up and an attack in the green zone just occurred. THAT is PROGRESS? Oh, maybe they’re demolishing for a new bridge? Right-on! Smokin’ Joe really flummoxed Connecticutt. He didn’t really want to be a Dem. He just slid in on a sure win ticket as Repulsicans were on the loser side. Now he’s re-installed, he can make his chameleonic change to a died in the wool turncoat redcoat Repulsican.

  54. crick02478 says:

Of course, when Bush, Cheney, and others questioned the motives and patriotism of those who questioned the Iraq war resolution and other adventures, Joe never decried those attacks on free speech as harrasment.

When pacifist organizations such as the Friends and others were subjected to monitoring, survellance, and even infiltration, he never decried those attacks on freedom as harrasment.

    Etc.

Whether or not Joe comes out of the closet and declares himself a true red Republican or not, I can only hope that we are less than two years away from seeing Joe spend the remainder of his term as a sad and humbled footnote in what will be forever seen as one of the darkest, if not the darkest, period in American history.

Calling people anti-semites because they oppose the brutal occupation policies of Israel is a reich wingnut talking point smear.

They even used it on Jimmy Carter.

Of course these Religious Reich Wingnuts are BIG anti-semites. The guy who runs the Christian Zionists is on record as saying the Jews faked the Holocaust.

The Franklin case involved AIPAC receiving stolen secrets from the Pentagon. Franklin is in prison, AIPAC is still in operation. But, of course I’m an anti-semite if I say AIPAC is treasonous.

  57. jeff says:

No anti semites here. However the first Jew race card player has arrived.

Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president.

  61. VerbalKint says:

Patrick1 is far too stupid to come up with anything original. He works from a flowchart. It tells him that if Lieberman is criticized, then write that his critics are anti-semites. Patrick1 probably doesn’t even know what this actually means.

  63. Tom3 says:

What is really scary about AIPAC is they have a stranglehold on our government and are lobbyists for a foreign power.

Chimpy and Cheney are in their pocket and so is Congress…both sides of the aisle.

At the recent AIPAC wingding, Hillary gave a speech and got a standing ovation. Half the SEnate and a third of the House were in attendance.

I heard Nancy Pelosi also gave a speech to AIPAC…and got booed.

  64. Betty says:

Who does Joe Lieberman represent? Isn’t it treason to put the interests of a foreign nation above the best interests of the United States?
Couldn’t Connecticut pass a law stating that no one with the name of Lieberman can be a Senator for the state of CN. Then put him on trial for breaking the law – its been done before and by his BFF. Then let CN have a new election with out the intervention (cash) of the foreign nation.
I even liked the republican candidate.

  65. rfinca says:

  73. Hooker says:

Lieberman is a traitor. He knows that the “surge” as well as every other aspect of our invasion and occupation of Iraq is not working. He knows that Americans and Iraqis are dying for nothing. He knows that our being in Iraq has turned the world agaisn us and that he have lost any moral highground we had. He knows we are spending vast resources in Iraq that could be helping those in need at home. He knows all this and more, yet he spouts Bush supporting, war supporting, killing supporting lies. What an ignorant thing to say. If Pelosi were so evil wouldn’t she be wanting more war to start the clash of the civilizations so you fanatic wackos can replay what happened in 70 A.D and so the Jewish people could be thrown overboard instead of trying to put a stop to this resource war of oily madness?

Your just another one of those really irrational readers of the left behind series of books aren’t you V V? You sound just like those ignorant wackos who think by starting the apocalypse and killing hundreds of thousands of people that you will float up into heaven while the Jews, Liberals, and anyone else who doesn’t convert will die.

They have, obviously lied to the US public from the start. Why no impeachment? Asking, “so what’s your plan?” is a jackass smartass statement. You first get rid of the yes, JACKASSES that got us into this because those JACKASSES are proven wrong about everything! Why would you keep the JACKASS on your cart that pulled you into the ditch in the firstplace?

  93. feckless says:

Hitler knew we were coming on D-Day, he just didn’t know when.

Can’t we just declare that were definitely leaving but not announce the date?

That gives us leverage on the Shiites to make a political solution without sending the insurgents a “save the date card”, which seems to be Bush/Lieberman’s only objection.

  94. John says:

This war was lost before it began, since America can’t even sustain the current escalation, much less pacify the country. Bush won the invasion, but can’t win the occupation, and his plan is nothing more than eternal war (or war until January 2009, when he returns to his Crawford estate).

Bush’s few remaining fans are afraid of admitting defeat, as is their “leader.” That Magic Pony isn’t going to show up, not ever, but they’d prefer that the poor and the brown continue to die, and shut up about it, rather than face facts.

  95. I WORFEUS says:

Lilly livered Lieberman is the sorriest excuse for a human being I’ve ever seen.

  96. cowalker says:

    Tsar Joseph the Turncoat

  97. cowalker says:

Isn’t it already pretty obvious that insurgents of all stripes will have a big, red ring around Jan. 21, 2009? It would be nice if we could accomplish something politically before that to ease the consequences of our withdrawal for the Iraqis.

    But withdraw we will.

  98. Rudy says:

    LIEberman….go cheyney yourself….

  99. Merlin says:

It’s like the two crooks are being questioned in separate rooms about what they know. I wonder if Loserman knew McBush was ratting him out when he stated:
“… he may be “digging for the pony”, in Iraq.”

Meanwhile in the other room, poor Loserman mans his guns and says, “I’m with McBush.” unaware that he has been outed by McBush.

Both of these sad sack losers know that they are lying through their teeth but will continue to do so, in a full out, in your face, middle finger to the American public.

  100. Gregor Samsa says:

    Lieberman has some gall.

There he is, supporting an administration that has sent troops to kill and die in an occupation that didn’t need to happen, under false pretenses, in an useless engagement that seriously stretches the US military capabilities, while sinking the nation in a debt worth billions and billions of dollars -and he has the gall to pretend they are the victims of harassment? After all the insults the Bush minions have hurled against critics and anyone who dares to ask questions?

Obviously Lieberman is another dissent-despising Bush cultist.

  101. CT. Resident says:

I would much prefer to be known as a Critic than as a Murderer. I seriously think these congressmen know that they are killing the us troops in Iraq civil war. Further, their own actions show they do not care at all.

Joe ship out to Israel, Ct citizens don’t want you. Please leave you have done enough damage.
    CT. Resident

  102. Uncle Ho says:

you want harassment JoeLie? How’s this?

    “hey, hey, USA

how many kids did you kill today?”

  103. Peter Blond says:

Joe Lieberman seems to be a dedicated agent of Israel working under the guise of a “patriotic Amaerican.” There are probably more of his ilk–especially, but not exclusively, in the Republican Party–who also place the interests of that FOREIGN NATION before those of the one they profess to serve.
In my youth I too was a fervent supporter of Israel–although I am not Jewish, I contributed money for planting trees in the Negev and cheered when the Israelis scored yet another victory against “the Arab aggressors.” Now I see Israel as a racist entity at least as evil as the old White aparteidt regime of South Africa. I also know that Israel has spied on the United States and operated in various ways other utterly inimical to the welfare of my country.
I believe that any public servant of the United States who knowingly sacrifices our security for the benefit of a FOREIGN NATION should not only be removed from office, but publicly branded for what he (or she) is: a traitor.

  104. Justine says:

Wow. This is embarassing. Grow up and actually talk the issues, guys. There’s no need for silly 3rd grade name calling. Seriously, it doesn’t do a thing, except make people look ignorant.

  105. Pam says:

Bush can’t even handle criticism. How the hell can he win a war?

  106. null says:

He wants to run on “The Mccain Ticket “and sings along ” Old Mcdoonald`s Farm” ….A..I..E..I..O

  107. Peter Blond says:

I wish to respond to Justine’s (sensible) call for us to “talk the issues.”

The problem is that, increasingly over the past several decades, one of the greatest issues concerning our national polity (the almost omnipresent influence of Israel and the Israel lobby over our foreign policy) has been suppressed by “3rd grade name callers,” those who scream “antisemite” at anyone who even hints that this influence is indeed an issue.

Yes, “traitor” is an inflammatory term, but so is “antisemite.”
However, I for one would hold that “traitor” has more actual substance in the case of Senator Lieberman’s overt fealty to the FOREIGN STATE of Israel, than does the term “antisemite” when it is used to silence those who voice the concern that, all too often. our foreign policy has been put in service to the ambitions and perceived needs of Israel, at the expense of both our own national interest and the basic human rights of the Palestinian people.

  108. teak says:

Stupid Republican shill, “ought to be cutting off funding.” Yah, the white house wants that so they can fling it at the Dems in’08. Lieberman is disgusting. I can’t stand to watch him on video anymore.

  109. Temper Tantrums says:

How many US Soldiers have you killed today Joe? Can you attend the funeral and look the parents in the eyes? No I did not think so.

Joe Lieberman the US TROOP KILLER!

  110. euni84 says:

Democrats and Congress need to find a viable way to leave Iraq without it being in ruins. Simply leaving without planning would be a disaster, another Afghanistan. The US needs to join together with the rest of the world leaders in figuring out a multilateral way of ending terrorism and Mid-East tensions without engaging in war. The protest by Shiites and continued attacks should serve to warn our government that there will continue to be resistance, and soon a collective against American occupation.

To really get at the root of terrorism, global poverty needs to be addressed. Our leaders need to not abandon Iraq, but support its growth and the growth of other undeveloped countries by funding the UN Millennium Development Goals. According to the Borgen Project, just 0.16% of out federal budget is spent on poverty reduction while $340 billion has been spent on the war. We need to redirect our funds to programs that will work to combat the conditions that enable extremism to exist. We can’t fight terror with terror in a country we are espousing peace to; there needs to be an alternative.

  111. Merlin says:

    No. 111 euni84 said:
“Democrats and Congress need to find a viable way to leave Iraq without it being in ruins. Simply leaving without planning would be a disaster, another Afghanistan.”

A couple of thoughts on this.

    1. There is no way to leave Iraq without having a plan. If you are implying that we can’t leave Iraq unless it is calm or pacified or rebuilt, you are simply repeating a mythical neo-con (BushCo) talking point. There is simply no way to “win” the occupation in Iraq. (Let’s be clear, WE ARE NOT AT WAR IN, OR WITH, IRAQ! THERE IS NO WAR!) We remain there at this point, to save BushCos ass. 80% of the Iraqi people want us out of their country and 60% of Americans want us out as well. The “surge” is a political move for shifting the blame for losing the “war” to the Democrats so the Republicans can survive in 2008.
We will have to leave at some time, so lets begin leaving right now! And that includes ALL of the military bases we have constructed in their country. Full orderly withdrawal will take months. The sooner we begin to leave the less violence there will be. After Iraq settles down we can begin to help them rebuild in what ever way THEY want us to. They are a soverign nation and we have no right to be there at this time.

    2. Iraq is a already a disaster with us occupying it. It can only get better if we leave. (”Another Afghanistan” you say? Iraq is worse than Afghanistan right now!) We essentially created the atmosphere for the civil war that rages on in Iraq. We can do nothing to stop that civil war and our presence only aggravates it. History of other occupations shows that when the occupier pulls out the place calms down and doesn’t get more violent. With the outside force out of the picture the people stop supporting the crazys and begin to rebuild their country.

  112. Raymond Funamoto says:

IF TRAITORS Joe LIE-berman AND John McPAIN WANT US TO “SHUT UP” AND SUPPORT Monkey Boy CHIMPya’s IDIOTIC SURGE AND FLAWED Iraq PLANS, I TELL THESE TWO MOTHERF*CKERS, “LIE-berman and McPAIN, SHUT YOUR F*CKING VILE YAP-TRAPS INSTEAD, YOU MISERABLE, HYPOCRITICAL, DELUDED, OPPORTUNISTIC, DASTARDLY, UNDERHANDED, LYING, OBFUSCATING, PREVARICATING, UNSCRUPULOUS, EVIL, Bush-ANUS-KISSING TOADYS AND TRAITORS TO AMERICA—GO GET STUFFED, PREFERABLY BY AN AIDS-RATTLED repugnant-repub SODOMIST AND THEN GET STUFFED BY A TAXIDERMIST AND BE PLACED IN Monkey Boy CHIMPya’s TROPHY CASE, YA TWO DICKLESS NAZI-FASCIST LOSERS!!!!!”

  113. Jason Baddo says:

  114. hcl2 says:

  115. norm says:

    Just so Bush, Joe and McCain will not “accidentally” have a “Clinton moment” later;
Can we get a definition of the word “win” as it applies to Iraq?

The longer we are in Iraq, the more supporters terrorism gets worldwide.

  117. SF says:

How to Win “War in Iraq”

Step 1. Develop new energy production method.
Step 2. Stop giving money to people who have oil (and fund terrorists with it)
Step 3. Give new energy production method to other countries.
Step 4. Leave desert country in shambles and laugh at everyone because we suddenly no longer care about their existance.

Suddenly, the desert becomes the very sad and lonly place again. After all, without all that Oil Income I’m sure whomever is funding the insurgents/terrorists won’t have all that much money left to fund them.
Not to mention what that would do to the crazys in Iran.

The problem with leaving Iraq immediatly is that there are very few trained Iraqi people (other then the insurgents) that can handle the probable increase in activities the moment we leave. The Kurds are likely the only ones that are happy we are there, both the Sunni and Shite’s will continue to fight (as they always have) and there isn’t much we can do about it. The most we can do, is give some time for the Iraqi army to become semi-competent. Our best bet is to schedule a withdraw at that time. When will the Iraqi army become semi-competent, who knows, hopefully no more then another six to eight months, but thats just being optomistic.

  119. rob says:

All those who think there’s progress in Iraq should be there, on the ground, at the front lines, doing what they believe is right.

Blathering on back here serves no purpose. If you believe in this war, Mr. Lieberman, go. Go to Iraq and do what you think is right. Don’t send some young person to do your dirty work. You go do it.

  120. osage says:

Benchmarks aren’t being met based on Bush’s on the record expectations nor the Iraqi goverment’s on the record expectations. That means THERE IS NO PROGRESS IN IRAQ! It means both Bush’s government and Iraq’s government are FAILING! You can’t pick an isolated specific area in Iraq and declare “it’s safer in Iraq” when overall, more American’s and more Iraqis are being killed and wounded in Iraq. You don’t see dissenters pointing to a particularly unsafe area in Iraq and declaring ALL areas of Iraq are equally unsafe. Do you?

  121. osage says:

Lieberman is worse than a coward. He’s a traitor. The man is an opportunistic and self-centered egotist. He’s all about HIMSELF! He’s been bought and paid for just like every Bushie! He is the worst of American politicians. Next to Bush, of course.

  122. Jew Lieberman says:

    LIEBERMAN IS A REGISTERED JEW

  123. me says:

most of these comments are just name calling, gross generalizations and even a little racism. you guys call yourselves progressive? joe is right…if you really want to stop this war, stand up and freakin do it. congress should send bush the stupid funding bill so he can veto it, then either let it die or filibuster it to death. if you wanna stop the war, THEN STOP THE FREAKING WAR, dont just sit here like a bunch of asshats and call people names. write some letters, have a protest, donate some money, whatever. but if you want peace for real then act like adults, and make it happen.

  124. Shush says:

Is LIEberman threatening Americans with Blackwater mercenaries and concentration camps? Remember Barbara Boxer and Obama went to bat for the LIE after Ned Lamont beat him for the democratic nomination.

IF LIEBERMAN ISN’T REFERRING TO THE PATRIOT ACT,

    WHAT IS HE DOING?
