McCain Panders To Bloggers After Previously Calling Them ‘Infatuated With Self-Expression’»

mccainear4.jpg Yesterday in a conference call with conservative bloggers, McCain attempted to pander to the blogosphere by ensuring them that they would be tapped in to his administration, if he becomes president. From the call:

DAVID ALL: If you become America’s next president, what role would bloggers, left and right, play in your communications strategy?

McCAIN: I feel strongly that bloggers now are a vital part of the information technology in America and the world, and it’s an unusual and incredible development. …

And, the second: [As President, I would] be on with the bloggers every two weeks. … Maybe there’s too many bloggers and maybe we wouldn’t get all the questions in, and maybe my answers would be too long as they are now…But maybe by lottery. Anyone who wants to ask a question, we’ll throw your name in a hat and pick the top 15, so eventually all the bloggers get a chance.

But as a senator, McCain has hardly been a friend to bloggers. In May 2006, he said bloggers are “infatuated with self-expression” who believe themselves to be “so much more eloquent, well-informed, and wiser than anyone else.” In December, he introduced legislation that would treat blogs like Internet service providers and hold them responsible for all activity in the comments sections and user profiles, subjecting them to “even stiffer penalties” than ISPs.

Despite his friendly rhetoric yesterday, McCain’s true colors began to show through. “Bloggers have a lot of maturing to do in a lot of areas,” he said.

Flip-flop McCain was against bloggers before he was for them.

Don’t worry, McCain. You don’t have to worry about being President.

You’re not gonna get there. You’re toast.

  8. Zooey Says:

    Tom3,

Try to stay on-topic. Do you have a caption? :-D

McCain said the bombing [of the Iraqi Parliament deep within the Green Zone] could not take away from the initial, small successes of the surge. “It makes all of us sad for these public servants who have been injured or killed, but I don’t think you can change the larger picture (that) we are achieving some small successes,” said McCain, a presidential candidate who has been a vocal supporter of the war effort.

The Iraqi resistance only exists to end the occupation

But these attempts to sustain a sense of community are regularly crushed. On Tuesday, troops from the Iraqi army, supported by US helicopters, raided a mosque in the heart of old Baghdad. The well-respected muazzin Abu Saif and another civilian were executed in public. Local people were outraged and attacked the troops. At the end of the day, 34 people had been killed, including a number of women and children. As usual, the summary execution and the massacre that followed were blamed on insurgents. The military statement said US and Iraqi forces were continuing to “locate, identify, and engage and kill insurgents targeting coalition and Iraqi security forces in the area”.

  12. tarazan Says:

That came after the trip to buy a $1.00 rug in Iraqi market was fruitless and backfired big time.
So McCain now is attempting to be the friend of bloggers…..

  13. Raven Says:

“Ehh? ehhh? what’s that you say?
No, no, how many times do I have to tell you, it’s not McCain, it’s Magooo

  14. Zooey Says:

“Bloggers have a lot of maturing to do in a lot of areas,” [McCain] said.

He might have a point there. :-D

I hope I’m never as “mature” as McCain.

  15. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

“I was told that the cranium held the brain but, I think I was lied to.”

  16. veritas Says:

Flipper McJowels is “infatuated with lying”, that’s what he’s infatuated with! He’s a liar and a fraud and the more he talks, the deeper he gets himself dug in. He’ll soon find out that his campaign is over. Adios, McInsane - another Good Riddance, just like the one we waved to Imus!

  17. veritas Says:

Does senile demention (slow brain drain) do this to an individual? Was McCain, at one time, not considered with respect and lauded for his honesty? Or am I in some sort of sick fantasy? How could one man become so twisted, so evil and so wrong about all things in so short a period of time?

  18. veritas Says:

sorry….meant senile dementia! But I guess it could be said that McCain lives in another “senile demention”….hahah!

  19. Zooey Says:

I used to admire McCain so much, I thought he was a real straight shooter.

But McCain wants to be president so badly that he’s sold his soul to the devil. One should never want something that much. It has totally corrupted the man he used to be, in my opinion.

I think he’s having problems with dementia, as well.

  20. theswan Says:

    pure flop!

  21. Jaded Prole Says:

McCain has a few loose screws. He should be written off by the media as incompetant.

  22. Sharon Says:

Funny how he would use a term like mature ….He think’s we need to mature, like a flower or piece of fruit reaching maturity and beyond…Then it spoils and rot’s, which is where his evil mind is now..Sad to see a once respected man turn into this but it happen’s…Time to dead head the dead flower or throw out the rotten fruit……Blessings

  23. Jay Randal Says:

McCain is a senile old fool who must retire or resign from the Senate in disgrace.

  24. Raymond Funamoto Says:

  25. wmholt Says:

I think the two words in the headline of this post explain McCain’s dismal 12% support in the Presidential race: “McCain panders…”

  26. elemgee Says:

McCAIN: “I feel strongly that bloggers now are a vital part of the information technology in America and the world, and it’s an unusual and incredible development…”

I think McCain is beginning to get his momentum once again and he’s building on it. It’s kind of like music:
